Abhilashi University was established by the Government of HP Vide AU (E&R) Act, 2014 and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is approved by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), Bar Council of India (BCI), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), HP State Para Veterinary Council and All Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Aligarh Muslim University The University grew out of the work of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the great Muslim reformer and statesman, who, in the aftermath of the Indian War of Independence of 1857 felt that it was important for Muslims to gain Education and become involved in the public life and government services in India. Raja Jai Kishan helped Sir Syed in establishing the University The British decision to replace the use of Persian in 1842 for government employment and the language of Courts of Law caused deep anxiety among Muslims of the sub-continent. Sir Syed saw a need for Muslims to acquire proficiency in the English language and Western sciences if the community were to maintain its social and political clout, particularly in Northern India. He began to prepare the foundation for the formation of a Muslim University by starting schools at Moradabad (1858) and Ghazipur (1863). His purpose for the establishment of the Scientific Society in 1864, in Aligarh, was to translate Western works into Indian languages as a prelude to prepare the community to accept Western Education and to inculcate scientific temperament among the Muslims. The intense desire to enhance the social conditions of Indian Muslims led Sir Syed to publish the periodical, 'Tehzibul Akhlaq' in 1870. The Library's foundation was laid in 1877 at the time of the establishment of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College by Lord Lytton, the then Viceroy of India, and it was named after him as Lytton Library. The present grand seven-storied building was inaugurated by Late Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India in 1960. The Library was renamed as Maulana Azad Library, after a great scholar, educationist, statesman, freedom fighter and the first Education Minister of independent India. Akal university great scholars will spread the divine message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib among the people in the world in their respective languages resulting in universal peace and brotherhood: Three centuries ago, the tenth Master, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, stayed at Talwandi Sabo, finalized the compilation of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and prophesied that this place would manifest as Guru Ki Kashi-a great Centre of teaching and learning from where will emerge great scholars of Sikhism. Space and Sitting Capacity of the Hall: The whole library is divided into four sections, i.e. (a) Stack area, (b) Circulation section, (c) Reference and Periodical section, and (d) Reading room and ICT Lab. The library has two separate reading rooms for boys and girls. Total sitting capacity is 80 at a time, including ICT Lab and reference section in the library.
