It is a voluntary aided school. The Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking all decisions on applications for admissions. The coordination of admissions arrangements is undertaken by the Local Authority. For the school’s year commencing September 2018, the Governing Body has determined that the number of children to be admitted to Reception, Year 1,2,3, and 4 will be 45, and Year 5 and 6 will be 30. The school’s role is to participate in the mission of the Catholic Church by providing a curriculum, including Catholic religious education and worship, which will help children to grow in their understanding of the Good News and the practice of their faith. The school will help the children develop fully as human beings and prepare them to undertake their responsibilities as Catholics in society. The school requires all parents applying for a place here to understand and respect this ethos and its importance to the school community. This does not affect the rights of parents who are not of the Catholic faith to apply for a place here. Children learn and develop in different ways. Teachers know and understand this and use different teaching styles to plan work at different levels to meet the needs of all pupils in their class. This is called “Quality First Teaching.” All pupils at Sacred Heart RC Primary School receive “Quality First Teaching” from their class teacher. We aim to provide the highest quality learning environment for your child and for them to achieve their full potential. All our classes are supported by teaching assistants and pupils are offered additional support or catch-up programs where needed. Some children also need support at break/lunchtime and we offer a range of pastoral groups to support several children who need different provision at lunchtimes or break times. At Sacred Heart RC Primary School the progress and attainment of all pupils are reviewed on a termly basis by the Senior Leadership Team, of which the School SENCo is a member. These termly pupil progress meetings help identify children who may need additional support to meet identified needs. The progress and attainment of SEND children are reviewed on a half termly basis to ensure provision is matched accurately to need. Parents and Carers would be informed about their child’s general progress and targets through the twice-yearly Parents’ Evenings and the annual school report. Parents and Carers of children with special educational needs/disability (SEND) would be invited into school by their child’s class teacher on a termly basis to review and discuss their child’s IEP (Individual Education Plan). Also, Parents and Carers of children who have a Statement of SEND or a SEND Resource Agreement would be invited into school at least once a year for their child’s annual review meeting. If a child continues to have difficulty after intervention or has a high level of difficulty when they join our school, they may be considered to have special educational needs/disability (SEND) and are placed on the SEND register. This decision is made in partnership with Parents and Carers. Children with SEND have learning difficulties and/or physical disabilities which make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. They will need extra support or different help eg. modified tasks, extra time, or breaks informal assessments. School and other agencies can help most children overcome their difficulties quickly and easily. A few children will need extra help for some or all of their time in school. E-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Sacred Heart. We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed by our e-safety policy. e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online. We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. Parents must speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online. School Governors play an increasingly significant role in the running of schools. We feel it’s a huge privilege to serve the school, and play our part in ensuring the children at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary receive the education they deserve. School governing bodies are made up of volunteers who are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Individual governors bring a range of experience to the group, drawing on their professional expertise and often their knowledge of the school as parents or as part of the local community. Governors don’t get involved in the everyday operation of the school that is in hands of Mrs. Bramhall and her Senior Leadership Team. Our role is mainly to help shape the strategic direction and priorities of the school, and help drive those priorities forward. Much of the work is done in these committees, and each one will meet once or twice per term. In addition to these meetings, some of us also fulfill statutory roles which oversee different aspects of school life (e.g. Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Special Educational Needs). The work of the Board of Governors helps ensure that staff can get on with doing what they do best – educating our pupils to a high standard but at the same time creating time, space, and resources for your children to do the more fun things in life. Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School is passionate about and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and visitors to share this commitment. We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, children, and staff at school. Pupil premium funding was introduced in April 2011 to narrow the gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. The government believes that Pupil Premium is the most effective way of ensuring that funding reached the pupils who need it most. The government has stated that it is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. We are very proud of the excellent provision for our pupils at Sacred Heart and in particular for those in receipt of the pupil premium grant. All staff is dedicated to ensuring the gap in attainment and achievement closes between those pupils eligible for the pupil premium and all other pupils, and that the school continues to promote a fully inclusive ethos. Outcomes for our pupils remain a priority and work is targeted so that pupils reach their potential. Regular meetings are held with the senior leadership team to assess progress and monitor children's attainment. At Sacred Heart, we always strive to provide quality experiences of prayer and liturgy that support pupils’ spiritual development. These communal acts of prayer and the liturgical celebrations of the Church form part of everyday life in our school. Every child is allowed to pray by giving praise and thanks to God using traditional prayers of the Catholic Church and many other sources of prayer that enable this to take place. We encourage the children to nurture a relationship with God through words, symbols, songs, gestures, and silence. Prayer is such an integral part of school life that it can never be confined to ‘timetabled’ slots but may take place in a variety of contexts other than those specifically structured. Central to our prayer life in Sacred Heart is the weekly Pupil Led Collective Worship. Children prepare reflective sessions themselves and share this with their peers. The Eucharist is the very core, the very essence of our Catholic life, and therefore is celebrated regularly as a whole school and with the extended community. Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School is a modern orthodox Jewish primary school that promotes educational excellence for all pupils, a commitment to orthodox Jewish practice, a love of and commitment to Israel, and active involvement within the Jewish community, the British community, and the wider world. Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School is a Finchley success story. It was the brainchild of several Finchley families who recognized both the need for a new type of modern orthodox school and to have a local Jewish school serving the demands of the Kinloss community. The school opened in 2008 with just seven pupils and was housed in both Moss Hall and the Finchley United Synagogue before moving in 2013 to its new site in Stanhope Road, North Finchley. It was initially a private school but became a voluntary aided school in 2013 under Barnet Local Authority. Sacks Morasha has grown in popularity and reputation and now has over 200 pupils. The school has always prided itself on being a nurturing and warm community school, passionate about achieving excellent results in both Chol (secular) and Kodesh (Jewish) studies. It is a school that recognizes the importance of being part of the wider and global communities. Our purpose is to provide world-class education on the Isle of Wight, enabling our boarding and day pupils to flourish in MIND, BODY, and SOUL. Christian values inspired and guided the founders and we were recognized as a designated church school in June 2006. The Bishop of Portsmouth is our visitor and we have a special relationship with All Saints’ Church where we hold major services and where the Senior School meets fortnightly for a service of reflection. The All Saints’ team also provides our chaplaincy. The inculcation of Christian values is important to us, but we recognize the values of other faiths, offer opportunities for other faith leaders to speak in the School, and teach world religions in RS classes. We expect all pupils to attend our assemblies and church services which reflect the broad and inclusive nature of Anglicanism.
