The curriculum is designed to be progressive with our students acquiring a breadth of skills throughout their time in Ty Gwyn. Our curriculum mirrors the foundation phase approach across all key stages with an embedded emphasis on learning through play. The curriculum is delivered through meaningful, age-appropriate contexts for learning and adapted to each pupil. We make every effort to ensure that we listen to our pupils and strive to plan activities that excite our pupils’ imaginations.
As pupils approach Key Stage 4, the curriculum is designed to develop skills associated with independence, self-help, and making choices. As a result, The World of Work and accreditation are introduced as vehicles to balance the formal and non-formal aspects of the learning experience.
In Post 16, pupils have access to further accredited courses in the form of the AQA Unit Award Scheme. This is coupled with further work experience opportunities which draw upon our local community and college links. Communication, Numbers, Thinking Skills and ICT continue to play an important part in the Post 16 curriculum.
