The VLS Online Learning Program provides access to the Masters and LLM degree programs via an online classroom. At SVC, over 90% of students receive merit scholarships or financial aid. Annually, the College awards over 4 million dollars in institutional funds. Southern Vermont College has long been committed to the premise that quality education should reach qualified students. To this end, the College serves its student body through a comprehensive program of federal, state, and institutional financial aid. While financing education's primary responsibility lies with the student and family, resources can be supplemented with employment, grants, scholarships, and loans. The amount of need-based aid available through the College is limited and is awarded based on financial need as demonstrated through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All financial assistance from the College is subject to adjustment if the recipient is later granted aid from other sources or changes ineligibility. Financial aid awards are contingent upon the student's maintaining good academic standing and satisfactory academic progress. Vermont Academy develops confident, active learners and respectful citizens by providing a supportive community and close personal attention to its students. Vermont Academy is a small secondary school, primarily boarding in nature, that sees every student's potential and value and prepares them to thrive in college and life. Using the Core Beliefs as a guide, Vermont Academy graduates engage in the world as critical thinkers and positively impact the global community. Vermont Academy was chartered in 1872 and opened its doors in the fall of 1876. The school was founded by the Vermont Baptist Convention and was associated with that denomination for the first 60 years of its history. From the beginning, students came from all over the country and from many foreign nations. At Vermont Academy, there are several traditions that students and faculty look forward to after working hard in the classroom, on the field, and under the spotlight of performing arts. Competing in team-building games, sharing food, and having fun together brings us even closer as a community. Check out a few of our traditions below. What better way to get to know your classmates and bond than by participating in the Wildcat Games--a "mini" Olympics that pits class against class in a variety of comical and fast-paced events. Advisors and class deans serve as official judges, and each class is separated by color--the freshman often with the power of pink on their side. As soon as the leaves start turning, Vermont Academy students start speculating when the Dean of Student Life will proclaim it Mountain Day. When they hear the bell's ringing by four-year seniors, classes come to a halt, and students and faculty alike are whisked to a secret location for a day of fun, food, and fun. In late October, Vermont Academy holds its annual Pumpkin Run for the entire VA Community--a 5k fun run over campus trails to support a local food shelter. The entry fee is a non-perishable food item, and the top runners win a pumpkin pie baked by VA's excellent dining hall staff. Soon after the Pumpkin Run, VA students and faculty enjoy a mischievous and jam-packed week to celebrate Wildcat Spirit, culminating with a Halloween celebration.
