Since 1791, the University of Vermont has worked to move humankind forward. Today, UVM is a Public Ivy and top 100 research university of a perfect size, large enough to offer a breadth of ideas, resources, and opportunities, yet small enough to enable close faculty-student mentorship across all study levels, from bachelors to M.D. programs. Here, students' educational experience and activities are enriched by our location — from Burlington's energy and innovation to the forests, farms, and independent spirit of Vermont. UVM provides students endless ways to explore the world, challenge ideas, and dig in on the most pressing issues of our time.
Our vision is "To be among the nation's premier small research universities, preeminent in our comprehensive commitment to liberal education, environment, health, and public service."
The Mission of the University of Vermont is "To create, evaluate, share, and apply knowledge and to prepare students to be accountable leaders who will bring to their work dedication to the global community, a grasp of complexity, effective problem-solving and communication skills, and an enduring commitment to learning and ethical conduct."
At UVM, our culture of diversity and acceptance comes only from the active pursuit of it. Please allow us to walk you through how our administration, staff, faculty, and students realize a safe and common ground at UVM. Establishing a diverse and inclusive culture is a priority at the University of Vermont. UVM holds that diversity and academic excellence are inseparable.
For more than 200 years, UVM — a public ivy — has been educating students from across the U.S. and throughout the world and preparing them for rewarding futures. From undergraduates, international and graduate students to medical, veterans, and returning students — let our admissions process guide you on your academic journey.
UVM offers a public ivy experience to 10,513 undergraduate students. Students study one of 100 undergraduate majors, with gifted faculty who inspire and prepare students for every kind of success after graduation. The Graduate College at the University of Vermont enrolls about 1,542 students in 50 master's programs and 22 doctoral programs.
UVM's College of Medicine graduates are prized by residency programs for their superb clinical skills and communities for their commitment to public service.
The university follows a need-based philosophy in awarding financial aid. A variety of other financing options are available for those who do not qualify for need-based aid.
Our world is changing. UVM needs people like you—the creators, inventors, researchers, and teachers. With a UVM graduate degree, you can go further and accomplish more than you can imagine. Join us and start your journey.
