      6. The Technical University of Sofia is the largest educational and scientific complex in Bulgaria in technical and applied science with an institutional accreditation grade of 9.5 (on a scale of 10) for 2012 – 2018. As the first and largest polytechnic center, which supported the establishment of most of the higher technical colleges in the country, it sets the educational standards and national priorities for engineering education and science. The University structure includes 14 faculties in Sofia, three departments, a Center of Information Resources, a Library and Information Center, a Center for international meetings, a Center for Continuous Education, a Center for Educational and Innovative Projects, a University Science and Research Complex for innovations and knowledge transfer in the field of micro and nano-technologies and materials, energy efficiency and virtual engineering, Postgraduate schools, Scientific and Research Sector, small enterprises, a branch in the city of Plovdiv with two faculties, a Faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy and a college in the town of Sliven, a school for power engineering and electronics and two high schools – School of Electronic Systems Technologies in Sofia and a Vocational School for Computer Technologies and Systems in the town of Pravetz. The Technical University of Sofia (TUS) is an expression of the cult of Bulgarian people of education and knowledge and the embodiment of the idea of Enlightenment of Bulgarians to establish a higher school of education in which "scientific subjects, predominantly from the positive sciences with an application to the industry" will be studied. Therefore, for 70 years, we have been successfully coping with this national imperative. Our on-going task is for the TUS to be a part of the European and world educational space with comparable and competitive technical education and scientific research quality. We are aware that this can be achieved through the faculty's expertise and commitment, of the most modern infrastructure, and motivated and eager students. We realize that we are working under rapidly changing and aggressive conditions of the increasing demands and requirements of business enterprises towards modern engineers in a fast-changing world. Thus, we encourage qualified, creative, and socially active specialists who can successfully adapt to the European Union conditions. Our graduates enjoy excellent realization, fair remuneration, and successful careers. For all of us, the time spent at the University is destiny, priceless capital, time for on-going improvement – professional and life experience, time for dreams, and pure thoughts. As an invigorating and beneficial center of education, upbringing, and spiritual growth, the TUS is a substantial part of the strategy for sustainable development of Bulgarian business life and the creation of young, rational, theoretically, and practically ambitious young people. Furthermore, they will have to show results within a knowledge-oriented European Union. The high-tech revolution and globalization gave birth to an era of fast and easy access to knowledge and information. This significantly changed the notion of the classic University and the nature of the student – lecturer relationship. Therefore, from accumulated experience and established traditions, we have taken on the challenge to be adequate to global educational and research trends. We keep optimizing the range of bachelor's courses and update them in line with market demands, economic significance, and global development trends. We are expanding the range and depth of the master's courses and are improving the Ph.D. programs in compliance with the impetuous scientific and technical progress. We are expanding the scope of education in foreign languages. We are introducing innovative and effective forms of training and lifelong learning. We apply the most advanced electronic technology and distance forms of learning. We offer opportunities for international cooperation and mobility of lecturers, students, and administration staff. We are introducing a system for promoting the students' active participation in research and project orientated training for master and Ph.D. students. We are developing and continually updating databases of TUS's scientific and technical achievements and potential users of research and consultancy services for joint research and development activities. The appropriate arrangements urge more and more students, Ph.D. students, and young scientists to study and work hard. The academic community is motivated and persistent in finding ways for professional progress and development in correspondence with fundamental organizational values: academic freedom, integrity, and honesty, ethics, global thinking, creativity, innovation, social engagement. We continually strive to maintain a high level of competence, commitment, and motivation of academic staff, improve the practical application of the training and administrative services for the learning process, set higher standards for students and Ph.D. students. This is the only way for the University to establish itself as a regional leader in education and research in engineering, technical, natural and mathematical, business, creative, and applied sciences. Only then will the University become a preferable choice for Bulgarian and international students aspiring to high-quality education and business, looking for innovative partners. Evidence of the international prestige, recognition, and reputation of TUS are the dozens of agreements concluded for cooperation and the active links with more than 50 higher schools in Europe, Asia, North, and Central America, as well as our membership in the renowned world and European organizations and participation in various projects under programs of EU, UNESCO, NATO, etc. The opportunities, initiatives, and challenges before our lecturers and alumni in achieving their individual and mutual goals are innumerous, and we appreciate the community for us. We know the University is not only lectures, seminars, course projects, and exams. This is an ever-young spirit, gathering thousands of emotions, expectations, dreams, hopes. View full university
      7. The State School of Drawing was founded in 1896 by prominent Bulgarian intellectuals – Professors Konstantin Velichkov, Ivan Shishmanov, Anton Mitov, Ivan Mrkvicka, Boris Schatz, and Ivan Angelov. This was the beginning, set by decree of Knyaz Ferdinand, but ever since, the National Academy of Art's history is increasingly committing. This commitment stems from the nobleness of what it delivers to Bulgaria, to art, to every person who has decided to cross its threshold to study the secrets of lovely art (as Nikolai Pavlovich defines). Many generations of students and teachers have passed through its workshops, where the atmosphere, created more than a century, is capable of educating. As a Professor of painting recently put it, even the walls teach here. And it is not educational mysticism but a recognized tradition you cannot ignore or refuse to keep alive. Several events in the cultural calendar of the Academy from the past year can be emphasized. In June 2014, NAA again took part in the most prestigious forum for student art in Southeast Europe. This time the exhibition Transform was held in Bucharest, and again the selection of Bulgarian Academy was one of the most professional and advanced. Also indicative of the Academy's ambitions as the leading educational institution for the training of artists and a significant generator of artistic events was the exhibition All's Well That Starts Well in the Municipal Gallery in Varna. This exhibition (created in close cooperation with Societe Generale Express bank) presented works by students and professors from all disciplines of the National Academy of Art: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Poster and Visual Communication, Photography, Digital Arts, Woodcarving, Ceramics, Textiles – Art and Design, Metal, Porcelain, and Glass Design. At the exhibitions in Bucharest and Varna as part of the specialties Mural Painting, Book and Printed Graphics, Scenography, Industrial Design, Design in Advertising, Design of Children's Environment, Fashion and Restoration (related to design or other design specific characteristic) were shown through a video presentation. But not only with these exhibitions has the Academy developed and enriched its inherent educational and cultural position. This was also achieved through the traditional exhibitions of graduating Bachelors and Masters, through the dynamics of the visiting exhibitions and foreign lecturers. Last but not least, through the continuous learning process in the studios. NAA confirms its advantageous position in the social space with the Academia gallery's functions, its museum collection, the international business and creative activity of all departments and specialties. In this Yearbook can be seen the latest exhibits donated to the Museum and Library of NAA, the latest books and catalogs issued, and the academic journal Art and Critique issues. The exhibitions and events organized by the Academy (whether in its spaces, in Bulgaria or abroad) are also covered in detail in this publication's pages. They are a demonstration of professionalism and the product of expanding cultural influence. Therefore, this year's official rating studies put NAA first in its professional field, although statistics are away from the real excitement of a true-to-life creative process. The quality maintenance system is completed hierarchical functionality of rules, described in normative documents, regulated activities, and organizational structures. It forms the policy for achieving quality objectives and provides planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation of the factors determining the training quality. Quality in this context refers only to training and academic staff, and all academic entities are treated only in this aspect. The system for assessing and maintaining the quality of training sets requirements to academic records through its representatives in the academic and faculty bodies, approving academic standards, curricula, programs, and schedules for the training process. The main assessment targets are a specialty, academic subject, lecturer, academic manager, and educational qualification degree. Specific objects of assessment are based on the situation's analysis and are associated with identified weaknesses (the learning process discipline, training, services to students, graduation, etc. Today the former Drawing School is called the National Academy of Art, which till this very day is still considered to be the most prestigious Bulgarian institution for training professional artists in the field of fine and applied arts, design, conservation and restoration and history and theory of art (in BA, MA, and DA degrees). Sofia University, home of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, was founded in 1975 by Dr. Robert Frager in response to the growing need for a shift in higher learning pedagogy. As a graduate from Harvard, Frager had experienced first-hand the conventional approach to the study of psychology and found it to be lacking and often fragmented. In particular, Dr. Frager's educational ideal hearkened back to the ancient Greek system, which believed that education should take into account all aspects of the human experience. With this idea in mind, he set out to create a school of psychology that would fully prepare psychologists to understand human nature from an approach that transcends the pathological and encompasses the whole human being in the context of culture, physical health, mental health, and spiritual health. Today, Sofia University continues to add new programs to broaden its focus by applying transpersonal values to research, education, technology, and engineering. Sofia University has built itself on a foundation of transformative, transpersonal education since 1975. Sofia has changed and grown in its own time as a university and encourages its students to do the same. We invite you to take a more in-depth look into our distinguished past to learn more about our first footprints as a school. Sofia University has long explored the frontiers of psychology and spirituality for the betterment of humanity and the planet's sustainability. In our 40+ years as an institution of higher learning, we have found the transpersonal to be that which transforms lives through the liberation of one's potential as a whole being. This is accomplished by incorporating transpersonal principles and practices that awaken mind, body, and spirit to wholenesses such as mindful meditations, discernment, compassion, recognition of the universality, and the sacred inherent in every living thing, and movement-based mindfulness practices such as Aikido. 12.
