- More than a hundred years ago, Yekaterinoslav Higher Mining School was founded to provide the mining industry with highly qualified specialists. The same task is put before us nowadays, but it is more extended and complicated. Ukraine is rich in mineral resources. The problem is their more practical use in combination with the opportunities of modern technologies and market conditions. This is a distinguishing feature of a new generation of specialists who are trained at the Mining University. The brilliant teaching staff of more than 150 doctors of science, professors, and about 400 candidates of science, associate professors guarantee the higher professional training of our graduates. The National Mining University is a leading institution of education and science. The conditions of integration processes train highly qualified specialists and scientists in all the specialties of the mining and geological-prospecting industries, fuel and power engineering and raw material complexes, machine building, automation systems, and computerization of production. Specialists of our University participate in national, international, inter-branch, and regional programs to solve priority tasks of developing fuel and power engineering complex, raw material basis, machine-building, and ecology. The University's scientific achievements in mining and efficient use of coal, ores of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, the development of the resource and power saving, naturally protective and geoinformation technologies, and up-to-date systems of production control are recognized and widely used in Ukraine and the world. Our University has highly-qualified scientific and pedagogical potential in combination with the developed up-to-date laboratory basis and unique equipment and close ties with industry. University scientists take an active part in solving urgent economic issues. This makes an educational process a contemporary one and provides further development of world-famous scientific schools, which have appeared in the University over the century. The National Mining University entered the third millennium as a world-recognized higher educational institution of the European level with a substantial intellectual potential, which guarantees high-quality knowledge and further professional development of its graduates. The National Mining University, the primary higher mining educational institution in Ukraine, was founded on June 16, 1899. It is the oldest University in the Dnipropetrovsk region; moreover, it laid the basis for more than two educational institutions and scientific-research institutes. Among them, there are Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Chemistry and Technology (1930), Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute (1930), Northern-Caucasian Mining and Metallurgical Institute (1931), Scientific-Research Chemistry Institute named after Melikishvili in Tbilisi (1929), Moscow Welding Institute (1925), All-Union Scientific-Research Designing Technological Institute of Pipe Industry (1929), Institute of Physical Chemistry named after Lev Pisarzhevsky in Kyiv (1927), and others. The ceremony of Katerynoslav Higher Mining College (KHMC) opening was conducted on October 12, 1899. In the beginning, Higher Mining College had two departments – mining and factory ones. The curriculum according to "Statute of KHMC" foresaw 23 disciplines: God's study, higher mathematics, analytical mechanics, construction mechanics, applied mechanics, mini-factory mechanics, physics, chemistry, electrical mechanics, mineralogy, geology and science on deposits, geodesy, mining art, ore and coal beneficiation, surveying, metallurgy, the technology of metals, drawing and drawing geometry, accounting and mine-factory economy, technical translations from German and French, first aid at accidents. 13 teachers provided the training process. Mykola Iosipovich Lebedev - the founder of Donbas stratigraphy scientific school, rector 1908-1919, 1921-1924. At the very beginning, there was founded a two department library, a mineralogical museum, chemical, mechanical, and probe laboratories, cabinets in each discipline. On June 19, 1912, the State Legislative body adopted a bill on restructuring the KHMC into Mining Institute since July 1. At that time, their outstanding scientists worked. They were Ya. Grdina, V. Guskov, S. Zaborovsky, L. Ivanov, N. Lebedev, P. Leontovsky, V. Makovsky, L. Pisarzhevsky, M. Protodiakonov, P. Rubin, A. Terpigorev, M. Fedorov, S. Share. The publications of scientific works in technical periodical journals, monographs, study books, and atlases testified to the educational institution's high scientific potential. The KHMC systematically edited "Proceedings of Katerynoslav Higher Mining College" since 1905. Up to 1917, there had been edited 23 issues of "Proceedings," published about 500 scientific works including monographs and study books. In the period of the educational institution formation, there were established scientific schools and directions: Ya. Grdina became one of the founders of cybernetics, A. Terpigorev and V. Protodiakonov – the school of mining, V. Guskov – beneficiation of minerals, Leontovsky – the school of surveying, geodesy and geometry of deposits, M. Lebedev – geology and stratigraphy of Donbas, P. Rubin – metallurgy and coke chemistry, L. Pisarzhevsky – electron chemistry. In 1918 Katerynoslav Mining Institute opened two new departments: Surveying (closed in 1921) and Geological Prospecting and obtained the right to award the scientific degree through the scientific dissertation's public defense. In 1921 there was created the Mechanical Faculty with two departments: Mining-Factory and Electrical Engineering. The implementation of new specialties was dictated by industry development. Besides, a Workers' Faculty was opened. Beginning in 1930 Mining Institute started training specialists only for the mining industry and geological prospecting works. In 1932 there were established faculties instead of the departments: Mining, Electrical Engineering, Geological-Surveying. In 1920 – 1930 the process of scientific schools forming was continued. During the 1930-s, Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute lost a significant part of its cadre staff (about 30 persons, among which there were outstanding professors) because of political repressions. In 1941, when the war against the Nazis had begun, about 300 teachers, staff members, and students were recruited to the front. The Institute evacuated to Sverdlovsk (Urals) and Karaganda (Kazakhstan), brought a significant part of the equipment and the scientific staff for Sverdlovsk Mining Institute Filial of Moscow Mining Institute, which by that time had come to Karaganda too. A great deal of Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute's teaching staff occupied engineering positions at mining enterprises of the Urals and Republics of Middle Asia. The InstituteInstitute's activity was renewed in 1943, first – in Karaganda, and later – in Dnipropetrovsk. Destroyed educational facilities and laboratories were under reconstruction. Those who survived were coming back from the front. By 1951/1952 academic year there had been completely renewed the building of the Institute, put into operation a dull experimental study range, laboratories, dormitories. In 1951 there was established the Mine-Construction Faculty. Scientific elaborations of the Institute's teaching staff and student diploma projects were subordinated to the problems of renewing Donetsk, Kryvyi Rih, and Nikopol manganous basins. By the 50-th anniversary, the Institute had 165 professors, associate professors, lecturers, 34 departments, 22 laboratories, 25 cabinets, a geological museum, library, experimental study range, and study experimental workshops. At four faculties, there studied 1942 students by nine specialties. In the 1960-s, new-built and restored educational and educational-laboratory buildings, three multistoried dormitories for students and post-graduate students, educational-production workshops, a sports building, facilities of an educational-geodesic experimental study range in the village of Orlivshchyna were put into operation. In 1970 at Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute, there worked 474 teachers, including 34 professors. The amount of graduating engineers equaled 1200 persons. The number of specialists prepared by full-time education increased, though part-time and extramural study forms also functioned. In May 1993, according to the results of State accreditation, Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute gained an autonomous IV-accreditation level state higher educational institution and the name of the State Mining Academy of Ukraine. In 1997, the President of Ukraine issued a decree to award the Academy the national status. In February 2002, the institution was restructured into the National Mining University. Since 2010 the University has had a research status. Today it is one of the leading technical higher educational institutions of the country. The University graduates possess knowledge in modern computer technologies and can solve complicated problems of industry, economics, and law development. At the University there are 51 departments (27 of which are major-based) united into nine faculties of full-time education, Institute of Extramural and Distance Learning, post-graduate and doctoral courses, Interbranch Institute of Continuing Learning, Scientific and Research Unit, Ukrainian-American Linguistic Center, Linguistic Center, Ukrainian German Cultural Center, Ukrainian-Spanish-Latin-American Center, Center for Ukrainian-Polish Cooperation, Energy Saving and Energy Management Center, Prydniprovsk Science-and-Technology Center of Information Protection, Ukrainian-American Lyceum, Margarets College, Pavlograd Technical School, Motor Transport Technical School et al. At the University there study 12000 students, post-graduate and doctoral students in 27 modern specialties. The licensed amount of student admission for entering the University is 1400 students. The educational process is provided by 600 teachers, including more than 100 Doctor of science professors and 350 Candidate of Science associate professors. High quality of education is guaranteed due to the University's developed infrastructure, modern computer local and global computer nets, library funds with more than one million volumes, restorative material, technical laboratory basis, and the newest education technologies.

Also, in Freiberg, Wilhelm Lampadius developed the principle of gaslighting for the European continent. 5,000 Students, 6 Faculties, 86 Professors, and 2 Collaborative Research Centers. In 2013, Freiberg professors attracted 58.4 million euros in third-party funds. This is more than the amount the university receives for its necessary budget to cover ongoing expenses. The nearly 40 scientific collections of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg represent a vital component for research and teaching and a unique attraction for visitors. In the form of a donation in 2004, the university received one of the most extensive and most outstanding private collections of minerals to add to its Mineralogical Collection. Some of its most beautiful displays can be admired in the permanent exhibition "terra minerals" in the castle, Schloss Freudenstein, in Freiberg. The exhibition "Mineralogical Collection Germany" has had its home in the KRÜGERHAUS since 2012. So we have plenty to be proud of." 21 October (1 November) 1773 Catherine the Great edited the decree announcing the School of Mines' establishment. This date is considered as the birthday of the first engineering education institution of the Russian Empire. Today the University of Mines offers all academic cycles, bachelor's, master's, and specialist's profiles for future employees of Russian and International companies engaged in the estimation, prospecting, exploitation, exploration, and processing of raw materials, oil, gas, diamonds, ores. Over 5000 teaching staff members have been trained since the implementation of the program Student-Assistant of Professor – Postgraduate –Candidate of Science-Doctor of Science. The Mining Museum is one of the three best museums of Natural science in the world. The collections from 80 countries are exhibited in 22 halls and rooms with about 2 500 square meters. The library numbers over 1 2000 000 books, magazines and journals, and rare books of XV – XIХ centuries. The restored church of Saint Macarius the Egyptian is the main temple of the Russian Miners. There are six students' halls and dormitories at the University. Many times the University Sports Center has been estimated as the best one in Saint-Petersburg. To ensure the quality improvement of academic and research activities following "Schedule of internal audits," the internal checks are performed. The audit items and due dates of the audit items (university QAS processes departments involved in these processes monitored items of international standard GOST R ISO:9001:20008) are defined in the schedule. The list of specific items is registered in "The Internal Audit Registry." The leading specialists of temporary and permanent quality committees, Faculty, and department representatives responsible for quality are involved in process audits. Based on the audit results, the recommended guidelines and corrective actions for the audited process's quality improvement are developed. Following QAS requirements, all corrective action requests and recommendations are documented in pursuance of internal regulations of University QAS. We conduct an annual questionnaire survey of lecturers and students. Basing on a statistical analysis of questionnaire results and audit findings, the lecturers' performance levels for each work area are determined, and corrective actions for individual and department levels are developed. During an audit of research and development departments, we monitor the function of R&D activities function, following the documented procedures for R&D activities, presence, and status of R&D problem-solving method, personnel capacity, and status of experimentation facilities and maintaining processes. Based on the audit results, we develop improving proposals for experimental facilities of R&D activities and examine the reasons causing R&D activity's quality deviation and develop relevant corrective measures. The monitoring of university key performance indicators through time will enable the forecasts and suggestions for improving university quality management system and structure.

- More than a hundred years ago, Yekaterinoslav Higher Mining School was founded to provide the mining industry with highly qualified specialists. The same task is put before us nowadays, but it is more extended and complicated. Ukraine is rich in mineral resources. The problem is their more practical use in combination with the opportunities of modern technologies and market conditions. This is a distinguishing feature of a new generation of specialists who are trained at the Mining University. The brilliant teaching staff of more than 150 doctors of science, professors, and about 400 candidates of science, associate professors guarantee the higher professional training of our graduates. The National Mining University is a leading institution of education and science. The National Mining University, the primary higher mining educational institution in Ukraine, was founded on June 16, 1899. It is the oldest University in the Dnipropetrovsk region; moreover, it laid the basis for more than two educational institutions and scientific-research institutes. Among them, there are Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Chemistry and Technology (1930), Dnipropetrovsk Metallurgical Institute (1930), Northern-Caucasian Mining and Metallurgical Institute (1931), Scientific-Research Chemistry Institute named after Melikishvili in Tbilisi (1929), Moscow Welding Institute (1925), All-Union Scientific-Research Designing Technological Institute of Pipe Industry (1929), Institute of Physical Chemistry named after Lev Pisarzhevsky in Kyiv (1927), and others. The ceremony of Katerynoslav Higher Mining College (KHMC) opening was conducted on October 12, 1899. In the beginning, Higher Mining College had two departments – mining and factory ones. The curriculum according to "Statute of KHMC" foresaw 23 disciplines: God's study, higher mathematics, analytical mechanics, construction mechanics, applied mechanics, mini-factory mechanics, physics, chemistry, electrical mechanics, mineralogy, geology and science on deposits, geodesy, mining art, ore and coal beneficiation, surveying, metallurgy, the technology of metals, drawing and drawing geometry, accounting and mine-factory economy, technical translations from German and French, first aid at accidents. 13 teachers provided the training process. Mykola Iosipovich Lebedev - the founder of Donbas stratigraphy scientific school, rector 1908-1919, 1921-1924. At the very beginning, there was founded a two department library, a mineralogical museum, chemical, mechanical, and probe laboratories, cabinets in each discipline. On June 19, 1912, the State Legislative body adopted a bill on restructuring the KHMC into Mining Institute since July 1. At that time, their outstanding scientists worked. They were Ya. Grdina, V. Guskov, S. Zaborovsky, L. Ivanov, N. Lebedev, P. Leontovsky, V. Makovsky, L. Pisarzhevsky, M. Protodiakonov, P. Rubin, A. Terpigorev, M. Fedorov, S. Share. The publications of scientific works in technical periodical journals, monographs, study books, and atlases testified to the educational institution's high scientific potential. The KHMC systematically edited "Proceedings of Katerynoslav Higher Mining College" since 1905. Up to 1917, there had been edited 23 issues of "Proceedings," published about 500 scientific works including monographs and study books. In the period of the educational institution formation, there were established scientific schools and directions: Ya. Grdina became one of the founders of cybernetics, A. Terpigorev and V. Protodiakonov – the school of mining, V. Guskov – beneficiation of minerals, Leontovsky – the school of surveying, geodesy and geometry of deposits, M. Lebedev – geology and stratigraphy of Donbas, P. Rubin – metallurgy and coke chemistry, L. Pisarzhevsky – electron chemistry. In 1918 Katerynoslav Mining Institute opened two new departments: Surveying (closed in 1921) and Geological Prospecting and obtained the right to award the scientific degree through the scientific dissertation's public defense. In 1921 there was created the Mechanical Faculty with two departments: Mining-Factory and Electrical Engineering. The implementation of new specialties was dictated by industry development. Besides, a Workers' Faculty was opened. Beginning in 1930 Mining Institute started training specialists only for the mining industry and geological prospecting works. In 1932 there were established faculties instead of the departments: Mining, Electrical Engineering, Geological-Surveying. In 1920 – 1930 the process of scientific schools forming was continued. During the 1930-s, Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute lost a significant part of its cadre staff (about 30 persons, among which there were outstanding professors) because of political repressions. In 1941, when the war against the Nazis had begun, about 300 teachers, staff members, and students were recruited to the front. The Institute evacuated to Sverdlovsk (Urals) and Karaganda (Kazakhstan), brought a significant part of the equipment and the scientific staff for Sverdlovsk Mining Institute Filial of Moscow Mining Institute, which by that time had come to Karaganda too. A great deal of Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute's teaching staff occupied engineering positions at mining enterprises of the Urals and Republics of Middle Asia. The InstituteInstitute's activity was renewed in 1943, first – in Karaganda, and later – in Dnipropetrovsk. Destroyed educational facilities and laboratories were under reconstruction. Those who survived were coming back from the front. By 1951/1952 academic year there had been completely renewed the building of the Institute, put into operation a dull experimental study range, laboratories, dormitories. In 1951 there was established the Mine-Construction Faculty. Scientific elaborations of the Institute's teaching staff and student diploma projects were subordinated to the problems of renewing Donetsk, Kryvyi Rih, and Nikopol manganous basins. By the 50-th anniversary, the Institute had 165 professors, associate professors, lecturers, 34 departments, 22 laboratories, 25 cabinets, a geological museum, library, experimental study range, and study experimental workshops. At four faculties, there studied 1942 students by nine specialties. In the 1960-s, new-built and restored educational and educational-laboratory buildings, three multistoried dormitories for students and post-graduate students, educational-production workshops, a sports building, facilities of an educational-geodesic experimental study range in the village of Orlivshchyna were put into operation. In 1970 at Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute, there worked 474 teachers, including 34 professors. The amount of graduating engineers equaled 1200 persons. The number of specialists prepared by full-time education increased, though part-time and extramural study forms also functioned. In May 1993, according to the results of State accreditation, Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute gained an autonomous IV-accreditation level state higher educational institution and the name of the State Mining Academy of Ukraine. In 1997, the President of Ukraine issued a decree to award the Academy the national status. In February 2002, the institution was restructured into the National Mining University. Since 2010 the University has had a research status. Today it is one of the leading technical higher educational institutions of the country. The University graduates possess knowledge in modern computer technologies and can solve complicated problems of industry, economics, and law development. - The University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” has been an independent educational institution since 1953. It has established itself as an academic and research center that provides training in geology, mining, and electrical and mechanical engineering in sixty years of existence. It is an institution where fundamental and applied scientific research is carried out, and the whole range of post-graduate qualification courses is offered. The proper combination of general engineering education and the acquisition of profiled knowledge and abilities provides immense opportunities for university graduates to find their professional realization in this country and abroad. Since it was founded, more than 21 000 engineers, amongst whom citizens of around 40 countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, have been trained and have found occupational employment in the areas of geology and mining, power engineering, civil engineering, and industrial construction, in environmental protection, and other branches. The University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” has educated students in all educational degrees. In terms of duration and scope, The College of Mining in Kurdzhali is a primary structural unit within the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” and trains students in the educational and qualification degree of “specialist,” granted after three years of studies. The Bachelor’s degree is the first educational, and qualification degree at the University acquired after a 4- 4,5- year course of studies. It is an educational degree granted for the 12 introductory degree courses taught at the University. Having successfully passed a set of examinations and presented well-prepared course projects, and after defending a Diploma Thesis at the end of the studies, the graduates are granted the degree of “bachelors” and obtain the state educational document. Students acquiring the “bachelor’s degree” are highly qualified personnel operating in the sphere of industry. The Master’s degree is the second educational and qualification degree given after a 1,5-year course of post-graduate studies following the “bachelor’s degree.” Having successfully passed a set of examinations and presented and defended well-prepared course projects. After defending a Diploma Thesis at the end of the studies, the graduates are granted the degree of “masters” and obtain the state educational document. The Doctor of Science is the third educational and scientific degree. Education is performed by observing individual curricula, and a “doctor’s degree” is awarded to post-graduates, which corresponds to the American and European Ph.D.degree.
