- A very warm welcome to our school. It is a wonderful school where children have fun learning together. We are committed to ensuring our pupils develop into confident, independent life-long learners. We provide a warm, caring environment where we nurture the individual talents of our pupils. We offer an exciting creative curriculum to engage children in their learning, encouraging self-belief. Our Vision for St Michael in the Hamlet Community Primary School is to provide a welcoming, stimulating environment, where children can develop into confident, independent, lifelong learners. Provide a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment. We will do this by Following rules for our safety. Supporting and encouraging everyone. Being good role models. Being creative. Trying new things and not be scared to be ambitious. Promote high standards of behavior. We will do this by: Having good manners at all times. Leading by example. Respecting others and our school. Being proud of our school and who we are. Encourage children in their learning and encourage self-belief. We will do this by Motivating each other and ourselves. Listening to people at all times. Being enthusiastic and happy. Going to bed early. Being positive. Having dreams and ambitions. Forest School at St Michael in the Hamlet offers a unique hands-on outdoor natural learning experience on our grounds that compliments both the school’s ethos and curriculum. We use a holistic approach in a natural woodland setting to focus on building positive personal attributes such as self-confidence, independence, and self-esteem enabling our children to become independent, innovative, and inspired learners. Our outdoor environment gives us a unique place that we use in a fun and challenging way, where learners may choose to follow a suggested activity or to pursue their ideas so they can further their development and practice new skills. Learners are offered the opportunity to work independently or with others use tools, make dens, explore, create, investigate and experience campfires. At St. Michael in the Hamlet Primary School, we believe that sport plays an important part as it contributes to the health and well-being of our children. Sporting excellence and participation, alongside strong cultural opportunities, go hand in hand with academic standards. Our school has achieved The National Sport England 'Gold Athletics Award' every year for the past 6 years which continues our proud record in this sport. In 2013/14 our Years 3 and 4 Indoor Athletics Squad became Liverpool Champions. At the same time, our Years 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics Squad also became Liverpool Champions. A Very successful season. Our St. Michael in the Hamlet Creative Curriculum works for hand in hand with the 2014 Primary National Curriculum. We teach through a carefully planned thematic approach, valuing a broad and balanced curriculum that gives children the opportunities to achieve their potential in all subject areas. We have designed our curriculum to build on children’s prior learning over time, linking key concepts across subjects as well as developing a breadth of subject knowledge. Topics are designed to support children’s natural curiosity and stimulate their creativity. Topics begin with a ‘hook’ or ‘opening event’ and finish with a ‘final celebration’. Trips and outings are central to the children’s learning. In addition to this, they will have a series of memorable learning experiences, which may include inspirational speakers, STEM workshops, LJMU dance students, global students, topic-themed days, and themed weeks. Some subjects may be taught discreetly, such as English and mathematics. Other subjects may be taught as part of a topic, for example, they may learn history alongside their geography, or science alongside their design technology. Where possible the links have been made from their topic work to maths and English to enable pupils to apply skills in different contexts. Our curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, philosophical, and physical development of our pupils. The children experience these through a wide range of subjects and opportunities such as Physical Education (PE), Religious Education (RE), Philosophy for Children (P4C), Rights Respecting School Agenda (RRSA), mindfulness, forest school and personal, social health education (PHSSE). We are proud of our wider opportunities and the range of after-school clubs on offer, from magic to dodge ball to e-cadets. We end our academic year with a ‘summer festival’ to display our pupils’ creative talents celebrating our diverse array of wider opportunities such as singing, brass, drumming, and violin. - St Michael at Bowes Church of England Junior School, in the London Borough of Enfield, caters for children aged between 7 and 11. We provide a safe and stimulating environment in which children develop their academic, physical, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural lives. Within the school’s Christian environment, we aim to give each child an understanding and respect for their tradition and faith and to encourage them to value those of others. We recognize and value our rich linguistic and cultural diversity and endeavor to ensure that each child can excel and have the skills, independence, and initiative to become good citizens. St. Michael at Bowes is a Rights Respecting School where children are taught their rights according to the United Nations Conventions of the Rights of a Child (UNCRC) – this key principle underpins the whole school. St Michael at Bowes is a Church of England school, reflecting Christian values. We believe that every child should have a happy, safe, secure and disciplined environment so that all children may thrive and reach their full potential. We are committed to an environment that reflects our Christian values and provides equal opportunities for all members of the school community. We strive for continual progress and development to improve standards, raising attainment, and enhancing the quality of learning and teaching. We believe that children should be happy, enjoy coming to school, take away with them happy memories, and be able to make good friendships with other people. Our school values, firmly rooted in Christian values, underpin all the work we do as a school. Our pupils learn what each value means and why it is so important. They also learn how to demonstrate each value in their daily lives. Our Aim: To make sure our children always have good manners, behave well, and have a smart appearance. To encourage our children to be more confident and believe in themselves and what they can achieve, so they can develop knowledge, skills, and care for others. To help our children to become independent learners, always asking questions about the world around them. To teach our children to accept and show respect for other peoples’ views, beliefs, and cultures, to have respect for themselves, and to know they are important and special. To make sure parents, governors, staff, and the community all work well together to give our children an environment in which each child can reach for the stars and achieve their targets. - We are a thriving and happy Catholic school, providing a broad and balanced curriculum, designed to educate the whole child and send them forward into the world being 'the best that they can be'.Catholic religious education is the 'core of the curriculum' ( Saint Pope John Paul II ) and the foundation of the whole educational process. We are fortunate to be supported by a dedicated and committed governing body who plays an integral role in our success, acting as the 'critical friend', they challenge and support us to maintain our high standards. Similarly, we work in collaboration with our parents to ensure that we are striving to achieve excellence for all our children. The School recognizes the dignity of every human person because s/he is a child of God and fosters an awareness of the world's poor. Equality of opportunity for every person is paramount and precludes all forms of discrimination on grounds of color, gender, race, social class, or ability. The promotion of ‘British values’ is central to Catholic education because British values have their origin in the Christian values of our nation. We are proud that Catholic schools promote values that are both Catholic and British, including respect for the individual, democracy, individual liberty, respect, tolerance, and inclusiveness. Our schools promote cohesion by serving more ethnically diverse and poorer communities. Catholic schools provide high standards of education which are popular with parents from all social, economic, and faith backgrounds. At St Michael & St Martin, we provide an education that focuses on the formation of the whole person and our vocation and purpose in life. We are guided by our mission statement ‘Learning our faith, living our faith, loving our faith' and by the Christian values of vocation and service, respect, compassion, cooperation, and stewardship as we reflect on our place and purpose in the world. We place a significant emphasis on the celebration of individuality and difference within our communities and our calling to work for the Common Good, in the service of others. Our Catholic ethos, which includes explicit reference to Christian and British values, makes a tangible difference to the way we work together and with our wider communities. Within this framework, it would be impossible to overlook the government’s view of British values expressed as democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. At St Michael & St Martin, we recognize, not only the importance of helping pupils to flourish academically but also spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally, so they are fully prepared for life in British society and for their role as citizens, able to make the strongest possible contribution to the Common Good of all. We teach the importance of British Values by going much deeper into the meaning of what it means to live a good life, within a framework of Catholic Christian Values. This provides the context and meaning for understanding why British values are important. Our framework for understanding British values draws on the example of Jesus and his welcome and inclusion of all, which is developed in Catholic Social Teaching. View full school
- The St Michael Steiner School was founded in 2001 by teachers who have many years of experience of living and working in London. Our guiding vision was, and remains, a modern, urban Steiner school that addresses the needs of children who are growing up in this city. We want our children to feel part of the community, not that they are living in a sheltered oasis. The cosmopolitan nature of life in London brings the children into daily contact with people from many different backgrounds so that the need for interest in and understanding for others is not just taught but experienced. By nurturing in the children a deep respect for all human beings and an enthusiastic and active interest in the world, we aim to help them orientate themselves towards whatever comes to meet them in life, while they are growing and when they are adults. Our school is a mainstream Steiner Waldorf school, distinct from Rudolf Steiner Special schools. We recognize that all children have individual needs and admit children with ‘Special Educational Needs’ wherever possible, given the nature of the building we occupy, the make-up of the group that the particular child would enter, and the availability of additional classroom support if needed. Children with SEN are fully integrated into their classes and we watch their development carefully and try to give them all the support they need to develop and balance the abilities they have brought into the world. Parents of children with SEN must understand that we will work with their children in a way that is significantly different from that used in other schools and that they can support us. We believe that the child is aware of the trust and confidence that parents have (or don’t have) in their teachers. In regular meetings with parents, we listen to concerns and try to find the best ways to help the children. All discussions at these meetings are confidential and records are kept. There are important aspects of Steiner Waldorf education that have a positive effect on all children but which are indispensable for children with SEN. In addition to the benefits of the Class Teacher system and Main Lesson blocks described earlier, teaching through stories, descriptive language and mental images involve the child’s imagination and feeling of life. The child becomes immersed in what he is learning, subjects are related to one another and are understood more deeply. This in turn means that he can remember what he has learned because the world he is learning about is not composed of many isolated bits of information that have to be remembered individually, but is experienced as a cohesive whole of which he is part. We do not use textbooks in the Lower or Middle School in the High School the students have access to textbooks for research, but teachers still present their lessons verbally. This means that children who cannot read can access their lessons and can join in with discussions and ask questions. Recitation of poetry and prose is a daily part of the curriculum. The children learn poems and speeches by heart. Clear enunciation and voice quality are stressed and we use tongue twisters and other vocal exercises. This helps with vocabulary, grammar but also with spelling as, if words are spoken clearly, it is easier to hear how they are constructed. Skills such as drawing, painting, and craftwork are valued as highly as academic ones and are part of every subject. This gives every child an opportunity to shine and builds confidence and self-esteem. In Steiner Waldorf schools we work with Child Study, a concentrated study of one child at a time, undertaken by all the teachers in the school. During this time, the teachers observe the chosen child, meet together to discuss what they have noticed, consult parents, look at the child’s work and study his/her background and early life. Every child in the school is studied in turn. This means that all the teachers know all the children well and are more able to notice when a child needs support. We offer differentiated learning opportunities to help each child to develop at his/her pace e.g.taking into account learning English as a second or third language (seen as an obvious advantage, rather than necessarily a learning difficulty), and also those who may have particular learning difficulties. It is not assumed that all children will progress at the same rate or reach the same level, but that all will progress. View full school

- Welcome to our school. We aim to provide all our children with a first-class education and we want them to enjoy and love learning. Starting school is a very important time for children and parents. Happy and successful school life plays an important part in a child’s development into an independent and autonomous adult equipped with all the skills and understanding needed to become confident and competent adults. Michael Faraday is a Primary school situated on the Aylesbury Estate in the heart of Walworth, SE17. It is a mixed school with over 420 pupils, ranging from 3-11 years. The school is named after the famous chemist and physicist Michael Faraday who was born in this area. We have two classes per year group from nursery to Year 6. Our school community prides itself on its ethos of treating others as we would like to be treated ourselves. We teach the pupils to be proud of themselves and their school community. As well as an academic achievement the school aims to give the children a sense of social responsibility and respect for others. We work with parents to create an environment where everyone feels safe, cared for, and supported. We have established a school culture based on mutual respect, where children work and play co-operatively. The school believes in developing confident children with lively, enquiring minds. We want to establish common expectations about the way children behave within our community. We aim to encourage all children to achieve their personal best in all areas of school life. Our commitment to equal opportunities: We encourage everyone to respect and value the rights of others. We consider any behavior or attitude that threatens these rights as prejudice and we are committed to challenging prejudice wherever it arises. We do not allow racist name-calling or racial harassment of any kind at this school. We do not want any child or group of children to be made to feel inferior or left out of the life of the school. We want all children in this school to have equal opportunities in their work, their play, and relationships so that they can develop and achieve their full potential. At Michael Faraday School we follow the National Curriculum 2014 for all our Foundation subjects. We believe that all children have the entitlement to a broad, balanced, creative, and coherent curriculum that should prepare them for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st Century. We use a play-based interactive approach to deliver the Early Years curriculum which focuses on seven key areas of learning. Our pupils use the indoor classroom and outdoor areas choosing from a range of activities throughout sessions. Reading, writing, and maths are taught using a structured approach with the whole class and small group adult-led activities. At Michael Faraday, we believe reading is the key to all learning. Reading is taught using a structured phonics program as well as in whole class, small group and individual reading sessions with adults. All pupils use their reading skills across the curriculum to develop their understanding and to promote their enjoyment of reading. We use reading books from a variety of reading schemes including Rigby Stars and Collins. Children use our class book corners, the school library, and Newington library to choose reading books and to develop a love of books. Writing is taught in daily English lessons, with further opportunities in other curriculum areas being provided for pupils to write for ‘real ‘ purposes e.g./ letters, newspaper articles, posters. We use a continuous cursive writing script with pupils from EYFS throughout the school. Maths is taught in daily maths lessons, with further opportunities to develop skills in other curriculum areas such as Science and Computing. Targeted interventions run daily to ensure all children are making fantastic progress throughout the year. View full school
