  1. St. Luke's School is a secular private school in New Canaan, CT, for grades 5 through 12, serving 25 towns in Connecticut and New York. Our exceptional academics and diverse co-educational community foster students' intellectual and ethical development and prepare them for top colleges. St. Luke's Center for Leadership builds the commitment to serve and the confidence to lead. At St. Luke's, rigorous academics are embedded in a curriculum that challenges students to stretch and reach intellectually and encourages study with a heart and purpose. To inspire a deep, life-long love of learning that is central to St. Luke's mission and to develop resilient, globally-minded, socially responsible citizens, our curriculum, ethos, and environment are designed to foster the following "thinking" dispositions, also known as St. Luke's Community Goals for Learning. Where will a St. Luke's education take you? Above and Beyond what you ever thought possible. Our inclusive community will inspire you to reach higher, work harder, and make a difference in the world. From Scholars programs to community service, AP Calculus to weekly college counseling sessions, St. Luke's provides endless opportunities to dive in and take the initiative. Backed by caring teachers, advisors, and peers, you'll find there's no limit to where you'll go or what you'll do. Online learning is an extraordinary way to learn and share knowledge. Our goal is to enhance the traditional face-to-face curriculum with a spectrum of online options—from web-facilitated to fully online courses. At every grade level, students experience Web-facilitated courses. 100% of our teachers use some form of digital syllabus, assignments, and class management system. These traditional classes offer students opportunities to connect with class material, the teacher, and content online while doing most classwork in a traditional face-to-face manner. St. Luke's Blended courses deliver a significant portion of the course online while maintaining traditional face-to-face techniques. Teachers in the Upper and Middle schools are "flipping" specific lessons or entire courses using blended learning. Teachers produce online lectures, webinars, and podcasts that students access at their own pace and location. Class time is spent doing—working with the teacher and classmates on collaborative activities that reinforce concept mastery. St. Luke's Upper School offers fully-online courses. Most of the content is delivered online, and most interaction with teachers is also web-based. St. Luke's mission is an exceptional education that inspires a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead. St. Luke's Center for Leadership advances our mission by helping students develop exceptional leadership abilities. Many students complete their formal education without ever learning leadership skills. St. Luke's students begin learning leadership in 5th grade. As they move through school, students become clear and persuasive communicators; they learn that collaboration with diverse individuals yields powerful results, creativity trumps most challenges, and service offers us purpose and satisfaction. Exceptional leaders understand the essential value of diversity and inclusion. They surround themselves with people of varying beliefs, backgrounds, and skillsets to benefit from a broad base of experiences. St. Luke's strives to deepen students' understanding of differences in race, ethnicity, gender, ability, religion, sexual orientation, age, and socioeconomic status. We foster empathy and respect for all. The goal is not the tolerance of differences, but a celebration of each of us is unique and varied contributions to this community. Inclusive excellence leverages diversity (experience, perspectives, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, gender or gender expression, ability, etc.) to provide the foundation for educational and institutional excellence. An inclusive community attracts and retains a broad and deep talent pool of prospective students, teachers, and trustees. St. Luke's advances its mission by fostering an inclusive learning environment where students and adults develop as well-balanced, confident leaders who can succeed in a diverse, globally integrated world. 2. We are a Christian school that serves a diverse community and works in partnership with parents to develop the whole child. This is a very important time for the school as we attempt to improve the flow of information to all our parents as well as helping you to harness opportunities to further the learning of your children. Our passion is to educate the whole child. We value the importance of academic excellence but we seek excellence in all spheres of life whether that be spiritual, artistic, sporting, or service to the community. We achieve this by having a dedicated team that works closely together to understand the strengths of all our children and crucially welcome the partnership of parents to ensure we are successful with all our children. One of the advantages of being in a small school is that core understanding and partnership is so much easier to foster – we say that as someone whose previous role was in a 3 form entry school where that was very difficult to achieve. We look towards innovations to create a mindset of constant improvement and also are fiercely protective of the good things that we already do. We believe that working in partnership to develop the whole child is our core mission and this is why we have developed our curriculum which links as many different subjects into one core learning quest per half-term. This enables us to think of our reading and writing priorities as we are learning about science, history, geography, etc. rather than teaching them in isolation. Some subjects such as maths remain outside of this unless there is an obvious link. In the last year alone we achieved quality marks for International School Status, Geography, Science, and Inclusion for which we have been recommended to become a center of excellence. At St. Luke’s we are embarking on a new curriculum. Each class will have a topic that will last for each half term. There will be six topics across the year, each with a various focus. The topics have been designed to link the various topics that are taught across each year group in science, geography, history, and citizenship. These subjects will provide the stimulus for work in literacy, art, and DT. All work will be placed within one book which will showcase the child’s ‘learning journey through each topic. Our ‘whole child’ approach means achieving a fifth ‘Green Flag’ in our eco status that places us in the top 100 schools in the country for a sustainable approach to ecology. It also means us attaining the ‘Gold’ standard for our participation in a borough sports tournament and the co-ordinator of sports asking us the question, ‘How are you outperforming schools that are much larger than yours?’ The answer is the passion for sporting development within the staff several of whom have coached top-grade children’s sport and some have done so in a professional capacity. This approach runs parallel with a determination to open up new sports to our children which saw our KS2 children taking part in fencing, lacrosse, and archery last year in addition to the more obvious core sports. Our staff is working incredibly hard to keep improving this wonderful school that has a thread of service and excellence going back 150 years to our original covenant to serve the people of this area: a covenant that is cherished and protected by our governing body.
  3. We believe that children, Parents/Carers, and staff should be valued and their range of beliefs respected. The Governors commit themselves to use all the resources at their disposal to maintain and to raise standards in all aspects of the life of the school. We aim to provide full-time nursery places for children who are aged three from 1st September to 31st August of the previous academic year. Children cannot be admitted into our Nursery until they are aged three. We aim to have all our children admitted to Nursery by the end of September. Sometimes younger children may have to wait until January for a place. Very occasionally older children, those born between September and December, can be offered a place at nursery a term before they are due to start and therefore complete four terms in Nursery. Parents and Carers should contact the school office if they wish to place their child’s name on our Nursery waiting list. Admission to Nursery is based on age. Putting your child’s name on the waiting list earlier does not mean they will get into the Nursery earlier. Children’s names need to be on the Nursery waiting list by the end of the Easter holidays, the term before they are due to start in Nursery. Parents and Carers will be notified of a place by the end of June. St Luke's C.E. Primary School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff, and visitors and promoting a climate where children and adults will feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their safety or the well-being of others. The Internet can be a wonderful resource for children. They can use it for research, to communicate with friends and family, and play interactive games. However with the rise in access to the internet, through the wide range of gaming, mobile devices, and Smartphones, comes the increase in the potential for harm from inappropriate use. That's why it's vitally important to be aware of what your children see and hear on the Internet, who they meet, and what they share about themselves online. Internet or E-safety covers a wide range of topics and devices which comprise the 'online experience. As parents and carers please do talk to your children about how they use the internet and keep themselves safe online. I hope the links below will help you to find relevant information which will not only inform you but help you to engage your children in the importance of internet safety. Nursery and Reception are known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The curriculum is organized so that children are taught in small focused groups and can access resources independently to consolidate their learning. There are different areas of the classroom which have specifically intended learning experiences. These are called Continuous Provision areas such as reading, maths, writing/ mark making, role play, sand, water, playdough, small world, and creative. This encourages independence and allows children to approach challenges at their level. Resources for independent play are carefully planned so that there is an appropriate challenge at all levels. The children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters curriculum. We aim for a seamless transition from Nursery to Reception and the same areas of learning are taught. A structured daily phonics program is taught throughout the EYFS. Children share the outdoor learning area and also eat their lunch together. Parents and Carers are regularly invited to a variety of activities and workshops in the classroom alongside their children and are encouraged to support home learning through homework activities and projects. The outdoor learning area is set up to ensure that children have learning experiences on a larger scale. For example, mark-making might be twirling large ribbons, chalking on the floor, painting with brushes and rollers. Outdoor learning also supports different learning styles. Our Magic Potion kitchen has a surprisingly calming effect on children and is a contented hive of harmonious and cooperative activity. We have recently developed an outdoor nature area and large construction area. Our playhouses are used for focused role-play activities where children can develop their communication and language skills by retelling stories. Resources for independent play are carefully planned so that there is an appropriate challenge at all levels. We work with children with special educational needs in literacy and numeracy. Our main focus is to tailor the learning to each child's needs. The main focus is to equip our children with a boost to catch up with their peers by teaching them targeted work on numeracy and literacy but equally to increase pupils' self-confidence. We aim to do this by developing their skills through activities which the children find fun and highly motivational. We enrich the styles of teaching by incorporating auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic learning. We aim to make the learning enjoyable and memorable and allowing the children to begin to apply what they have been taught and to work independently. We tailor the program to suit age-appropriate activities. The Learning Zone staff go into class to bridge support into class. They also help children to build strategies to enable children to transfer those strategies more confidently. Each pupil that accesses the Learning Zone has their file. This holds information about them and information about their progress. They are constantly updated on a daily/weekly basis.
  4. St. Luke’s School is located on the Isle of Dogs in the heart of Docklands. It is a successful two form of entry school and is currently attended by nearly 400 pupils from 3-11 years. At St. Luke’s we deliver a broad, rich, and varied curriculum that includes a range of extra-curricular learning experiences through music, sport, art, and educational trips. St. Luke’s C.E. Primary School is a safe, welcoming, and nurturing school that offers a sense of belonging. We value our partnership with Christ Church which contributes to our distinct and rich Christian ethos. We are a growing school yet we pride ourselves that we know every child inside out. We do our best to help each child find their strengths and talents so that they will flourish and be challenged. Staff work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure that all children develop their potential across our diverse community, having relentlessly high expectations of ourselves and others. We are a Christian school community that seeks to instill a lifelong love of learning. Our core values inspire and prepare our children to lead successful and fulfilling lives. St. Luke’s is a caring Church of England Primary School that is committed to supporting our pupils to be happy, successful, generous, and fulfilled throughout their lives. We believe that each of us is unique and valued by God—all made in his image. And so we aspire to provide an outstanding education for all. We do this by: Promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning, with excellent leadership. Being inclusive, celebrating diversity including all religions, faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. Providing a rich and stimulating curriculum that will inspire and challenge all our learners. Being a safe, healthy, and happy place. Providing excellent care, guidance, and support. Having a strong partnership between school, parents, and the community. We seek to promote core values within our children that will prepare them for a successful life. They should be: Hardworking, showing enthusiasm for their learning, and striving towards high personal standards and excellence in all that they do. Kind and respectful with excellent manners. Co-operative and collaborative, developing strong partnerships for learning, personal and spiritual growth, and development. Honest and trustworthy treating others fairly and safely. Resilient and determined, showing great courage and a willingness to take responsibility for the impact that they have on others. Highly principled with moral, spiritual, cultural, and social awareness, including shared British Values. At St Luke’s, we encourage children to learn confidently and to communicate what they have learned. We believe that children should have the benefit of a broad and balanced curriculum that extends and enriches their knowledge and understanding of the world we live in so that they can make a valuable contribution as they grow. We are particularly keen to develop the ‘whole child’ and as such seek to further children’s interest in music and art through our collaboration with specialist partners such as ‘Thames Music’. We ensure children receive a rich curriculum by extending opportunities through theatre visits, visiting performers and musicians, and school trips, including residential, to a range of places. At St Luke’s, we firmly believe that children learn best when they can make connections in their learning and apply skills learned. Each half term we will be looking at a theme that will encompass many curriculum areas the themes are chosen are those which we feel will captivate the children’s interest and their enthusiasm for learning. We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved. “Learning by doing” makes the work more interesting, more meaningful, and more likely to make sense and be remembered. This kind of learning helps children to think more clearly, to raise questions, try out ideas, and record their findings.
  5. Welcome to St Luke's CE Primary School in Islington. St Luke’s is a happy, caring school where the virtues of faith, hope, and love permeate. We actively ensure that every child is valued as an individual. Faith is very important to us as we endeavor to live out our Christian values in our everyday lives. At St Luke's our motto is 'always seeking to improve, which means that we are committed to continually improving our school so that we provide the very best education and the most exciting opportunities for our children. We are very proud of our outstanding children. It is the children who make St Luke’s a special place, and we are proud of all their achievements. We work hard to foster and secure an enjoyable environment that excites, challenges, and motivates each child, enabling them to reach their full potential. We have an organized ‘Learning for Life’ program based on core Christian values that build children’s capacity in fellowship, trust, thankfulness, endurance, compassion, and service. We have a strong partnership with parents and together we do our best to equip children with the confidence to embrace our ever-changing world. Within the context of Christian belief and practice, we aim to serve the community by providing an education of the highest quality. Our vision for the federation is that every child will thrive as both schools provide a broad range of opportunities where teaching is outstanding and makes a high impact upon learning and achievement. This is the core purpose of the federation two fantastic, successful, happy schools that are at the heart of the EC1 community. St Luke’s is a nurturing, dynamic, and diverse community, rooted in Christian values, where children are encouraged to be the best they can be. The following values are our guiding principles: Trust Service Kindness Friendship Perseverance Thankfulness We will do everything we can to help every child understand the importance of these values through the way we behave towards them and each other. Each child’s educational, emotional and spiritual welfare is vitally important and we commit to doing our very best for every child. Our vision is: “Reaching higher than I dreamed, becoming the person I can be, doing the best that I can, for the world and me.” St Luke's Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We have several policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection. The Early Years at St Luke's provides a warm, safe environment for all children both physically and emotionally. It is a place where all learning is valued and where children can lay the foundations for a lifelong love of learning and reach their potential across the 5 Every Child Matters outcomes staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, economic well-being and making a positive contribution. In the light of the changes to the National Curriculum, St Luke’s has made some changes to our curriculum in school. Our vision is to keep the children's needs, interests, and ‘Learning for Life’ at the heart of everything we do which gives us a rich, broad, and balanced curriculum. We actively teach the skills and knowledge children need to prepare to prepare them for life, as well as the essential attributes of resilience, endurance, and inquiry. For English and Mathematics, we will be following the New National Curriculum whilst still adopting a unit-based approach, e.g. in English, pupils will spend several weeks immersed in a particular text type like adventure stories. In Maths they may spend a week or so learning about a topic like fractions or shape. All will be in line with the new expectations set out in the National Curriculum and so there may be a period of transition to meet these standards. We will continue to use the IPC (International Primary Curriculum) for the Art, Design and Technology, History, Geography, and International aspects of the curriculum. In addition this year, Science will now be taught as a discrete subject. Some topics have changed, but we feel this is still the most engaging way to get pupils involved in their learning. Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) will be taught using the updated scheme of work from Islington, and Religious Education (RE) continues unchanged to be taught through the LDBS scheme of work. This has a Christian basis, but pupils also study other major world religions. Children also have a weekly Philosophy for Children lesson (P4C) which encourages them to think deeply and question the world around them.

View full school

View full school
  12. View full school
