Jesus & Mary School (JM) is located in Rabweh, Lebanon_a northern suburb of Beirut. The school was founded in 1965 by the late Archbishop of Antelias, Elias Farah, and run by the Sisters of Jesus & Mary_the English Chapter. JM is a Lebanese nonprofit Catholic school registered with the Lebanese Ministry of Education. It provides education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and follows the Lebanese curriculum. JM students sit for the Lebanese Official Brevet and Baccalaureate Examinations (Life Sciences, General Sciences, and Sociology and Economics) at the end of Grades 9 and 12 respectively. In the Intermediate Division, we prepare our students for the Brevet Official Exam. However, we do keep in mind that these are the years where their character blooms as they discover their true identity and start maturing into the adults we are so proud of. Our shared goal is to help our students develop their full potential and become self-disciplined role models for others. We can only accomplish our goal if we are committed to discipline and work together at it. The school aims to give each pupil an education that will help her to develop her gifts, both spiritual and social, and achieve the highest academic standards of which she is capable. We hope each pupil will receive the help and guidance that will encourage her confidently to make her contribution to life as a responsible and self-disciplined Christian. The Convent of Jesus and Mary enjoyed over 10 years as a specialist Language College. It was one of the first schools to achieve specialist status in this area and received funding directly from the government to promote languages and the international dimension both within the school and in the local community. Whilst in many schools a minority of pupils choose to study a foreign language at KS4, The Convent of Jesus and Mary ensures that everyone learns at least one foreign language, with many students learning two or even three. In year 7 students experience all of the languages offered at the school during the first term and they then choose the one they intend to continue with until the end of year 11. There are, however, fast-track courses for more able students. At KS5 students continue to experience languages through A-level courses or using the weekly enrichment classes. We are a rich, diverse and inclusive school: there are over 35 languages represented. Many students at the school have an additional language which they may speak at homes such as Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, French Italian, and Spanish. These students are encouraged to participate in the early entry scheme and are supported in their learning through the weekly lessons offered as part of the Saturday School provision. In addition to the normal curriculum, students at the Convent benefit from a whole range of cultural activities such as workshops organized in conjunction with international events and festivals, visits to art galleries and museums, cinema trips, and lectures, which make their education truly distinctive and develop both their interpersonal and intercultural skills, which are essential for success in an increasingly global economy. A program of overseas visits as well as joint projects with schools located in other countries provide students with an opportunity to compare their experiences with those of their peers living abroad and explore global issues. The integration programs run in conjunction with the British International School give students a chance to gain an insight into different school systems by hosting groups of Italian visitors who share their lessons during their stay in England. The work carried out to promote internationalism throughout the school was recognized by the British Council in 2008 as the Convent achieved the International School Award. St Claudine’s vision was to provide an exceptional education for girls. Inspired by that vision, our whole school, staff, and students, strive to live out St. Claudine’s values so our students grow. The majority of our school community is Catholic. Staff and students of other faith traditions are a vital part of the school community, supporting and participating in our spiritual life. In the grim aftermath of the French Revolution, a young woman of vision and courage - Claudine Thévenet, whose brothers and an uncle were guillotined during the Reign of Terror - spent her time, her energy, and her money in providing food, clothing, education and secure home for orphaned and abandoned children. She was helped in her task by several like-minded charitable young women and in 1818 founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary. In 1886, nuns from the now flourishing religious congregation were invited by Cardinal Manning to form a convent school for girls in Willesden. The school’s foundation stone was laid a year later and in 1888 the Convent of Jesus and Mary was opened as a private boarding school for girls. Now, at the start of the 21st century, the Convent of Jesus and Mary Language College provides high-quality, fully comprehensive education for girls aged from eleven to eighteen.

Hello and a very warm welcome to our school community here at the Convent of Jesus and Mary Catholic Infant School & Nursery in Willesden Green. Being an infant school we have the great honor of providing for your child’s first steps in their school learning journey. For our young children, each day is an open-ended adventure, an opportunity to learn, to explore, to discover, to achieve. Through working in partnership with you their parents we aim to provide the best environment for this adventure, to help your children understand and define what they are about and how they can truly become what God wants them to be. The school was founded in 1904 by the Congregation of Jesus & Mary as an all-age boarding and day school. In 1945 the boarding department was discontinued. The school then catered for infant and primary pupils. In 1947 after the General Inspection, the school was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education. In August 1967 the school again changed its status from an Independent Preparatory School to a Voluntary Aided Infant School for children aged 3 – 7. The school was under the trusteeship of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary until 2002. It is now under the trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster. The Nursery Unit was opened in October 1977. As a Catholic school, the foundation of our curriculum is Religious Education, it is fundamental and as such underpins all areas of the curriculum. The religious education program followed is called ‘COME AND SEE’. However, the message of the Gospels permeates all subjects. We work closely with the Parish of Saint Mary Magdalen’s and other local parishes. Pupils in the Nursery and Reception follow the EYFS.-Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Pupils in Years One and Two follow the National Curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on the basic skills of reading, writing, and numeracy. In Key Stage 1 pupils follow what is laid down in the National Curriculum for English, Maths Science, History, Geography, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Music, Art, PE. We place a strong emphasis on our pupils having access to a very creative curriculum. Music and Sport are important features of our curriculum. TOGETHER Thinking Learning Caring Sharing BECOMING the people GOD wants us to be In Convent of Jesus and Mary RC Infant School, every Wednesday Worship will take place every Wednesday at the Grotto in the Garden at 8.35. This is an opportunity for parents, children, and staff to come together in prayer. The prayer is led by the Prayer Leaders from each class. Since every person of whatever age is endowed with human dignity, he/she has an inalienable right to an education corresponding to his/her proper destiny and suited to his/her talents. The Church has a special responsibility towards those children who have physical disabilities, learning difficulties, and emotional and behavioral problems….. To our Catholic community, the requirement to integrate is not an optional extra but a challenge for which we must be willing to travel the extra mile. We also believe that more able pupils are also identified as having special educational needs, although they fall outside the definitions of the SEN Code of Practice. Every effort is made to meet these needs through differentiation and planning across the National Curriculum. The school aims to develop and apply an SEN policy and approach which will meet the needs of SEN pupils to enable them to develop self-esteem, achieve their potential, and make a personal contribution towards the life of the school. The school recognizes that pupils at school with medical conditions should be properly supported and have full access to education, including school trips and physical education. Some children with medical conditions may be disabled and where this is the case the school complies with its duties under the Equality Act 2010. The school's arrangements to support pupils at school with medical conditions are available in the Schools Policy for Health, Managing Medicines, and First Aid available from the school. Behaviour is not classified as an SEN. All children’s behavior is responded to consistently in line. With our school Behaviour Policy. However, if a child shows consistent and off-task behaviors, the class teacher will assess the child’s needs, taking into account family circumstances and the child’s known history of experiences. If the child’s behavior is a response to trauma or home-based experiences (e.g. bereavement, parental separation) we complete a CAF with the family and support the family through that process. The school employs a dedicated Home School Liaison Officer who supports children and families with identified social and emotional needs.
