- As natural learners, children are unique individuals, as all human beings are. They grow at different speeds. They have different talents and learn in different ways. These characteristics have been denied by education for many years. Children had to strive to match the standard of education that was set by the school. Conformity to the standard was highly valued and differences from the standard were seen as less than normal. HighScope believes in individual differences. School should, therefore, be the place to accommodate these differences, the place to empower students in all their uniqueness and put them in control of their learning. Learning is more than knowing about basic facts of what are called subjects. Learning is acquiring sets of life tools that will be used for the rest of one’s life. Learning must be seen as a road that will lead to the future. The learners will actively travel along the road to reach their destination.HighScope is committed to facilitate and guide the learners’ journey through its current four educational programs Early childhood, Elementary, Middle, and High School. HighScope’s Educational Approach is an open framework that organizes and supports the students’ and teachers’ environment, daily routine, and interactions. The framework is adapted by educators to meet the unique needs of their local community and groups of students. For the students, the framework provides a consistent schedule that includes interesting things to do, attention from their teachers for their specific interests and needs, and a sense of control over themselves and their environment. The learning activities teachers plan for students foster independent thinking, initiative, and creativity. Students’ cognitive, social, emotional, and physical capacities develop quickly when they can use materials and their imaginations freely in an environment that promotes investigation, decision–making, cooperation, persistence, and problem-solving. Sekolah HighScope Indonesia employs an international approach and standard that is adjusted to the local context: culture, conditions, and ethics. Our curriculum is adjusted in the same manner to enrich the curriculum of the Indonesian Ministry of Education. “Sekolah HighScope Indonesia’s vision is to be the world’s innovative leader and the barometer of education in Indonesia” Sekolah HighScope Indonesia’s mission is to help Indonesian children develop totally – academic, intrapersonal and physical and be competitive international by providing the highest quality”. - In 1849 the Dutch government established an institute of higher education for medicine. In January 1851, the School was officially named Dokter-Djawa School (School for Javanese Doctors). This institute of higher education specialized in medicine, especially for the education of doctors. After undergoing a change of name at the end of the 19th century, or in 1898, the name Dokter-Djawa School was changed to School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen (School of Medicine for Indigenous Doctors) or also known as STEVIA. For 75 years, STEVIA provided the best education for medical doctor candidates in Indonesia before closing in 1927. However, another School of Medicine was established along with four other institutes of higher education in Java's several cities. Those institutes of higher education were Technische Hogeschool te Bandoeng (Faculty of Engineering), which was established in Bandung in 1920, Recht Hoogeschool (Faculty of Law) in Batavia in 1924, Faculteit der Letteren en Wijsbegeerte (Faculty of Letters and Humanities) in the Batavia In 1940, and one year after that Faculteit van Landbouwweteschap (Faculty of Agriculture) was established in Bogor. These five institutes of higher education became the pillars in developing Nood-Universiteit (Emergency University), established in 1946. Good-Universiteit changed its name to Universiteit van Indonesië in 1947 and was based in Jakarta. Several nationalistic professors, one of them Prof. Mr. Djokosoetono, continued their roles as teaching staff at Universiteit van Indonesië in Yogyakarta, the capital city. Universiteit van Indonesië then was merged to become Universiteit Indonesia in 1950. This University had various Faculties, namely the faculty of Medicine, Law, Letters, and Philosophy in Jakarta, the Faculty of Engineering in Bandung, the Faculty of Agriculture in Bogor, the Faculty of Dentistry in Surabaya, and the Faculty of Economics in Makassar. Other faculties were established in its further development, namely, the Faculty of Psychology, the Faculty of Social Science and Politics, the Faculty of Community Health, the Faculty of Computer Sciences, and the Faculty of Nursing. University's Vision is to Establishing Universitas Indonesia as an independent and only university capable of resolving problems and challenges nationally and globally, as an elite university in South East Asia. The mission is to provide quality higher education easily accessible to everyone. Conduct the Tri Dharma (education, research, and community service) capable of meeting the national and global challenges. Create highly intellectual graduates with good virtues that can compete globally. Creating a nurturing academic climate that will support the realization of the University's Vision. Creating an inclusive educational community based on civility, trust, integrity, mutual respect, and diversity in a safe and friendly environment Preparing students to become intelligent and conscientious graduates through a clear and focused education program, so they can implement, develop, enrich the advancement of science, technology, and culture. To develop and spread science, technology, and culture and seek its application to improve the quality of life in the community and enrich the national culture. Promoting and strengthen the development of existing sciences while also pushing the envelope on new sciences and studies in every field to answer the increasing complexity of issues in human life and existence Encourage and support academics' active participation in the development of a democratic, prosperous, civilized, and independent society. Strengthen the role of Universitas Indonesia as a higher education provider, and strengthen the cooperation with professional certification associations, so that our graduates can obtain professional certifications Increase the quantity and quality of service through collaborations and partnerships for cultural enrichment and continuous education Invest in professional development for Universitas Indonesia's students, teachers, and staff. They also invest in useful technologies to achieve a competitive advantage through education, research, and community service. In the reformation era, the government considered Universitas Indonesia to have adequate management capabilities to be independent, autonomous, and responsible for building moral strength to support national development. The government stipulated Governmental Regulation (PP) number 152/2000, which established Universitas Indonesia as a State Owned Legal Entity (BHMN). In the period of implementation of Universitas Indonesia as BHMN, the government stipulated several essential policies such as Law number 20/2003 regarding the National Education System and PP number 19/2005 concerning the National Education Standards, which in several ways did not fully support the implementation of Universitas Indonesia as a BHMN. Among others is the ratification of UU number 12/2012 concerning Higher Education, which determined the legal status of Universitas Indonesia. According to that Law, BHMN Institutes of Higher Education and BHMN Institutes of Higher Education, which became Institutes of Higher Education operated by the government with the financial pattern of Public Service, was stipulated as Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH). Currently, Universitas Indonesia has 13 Faculties, Postgraduate Programs, and Vocational Programs. The 13 Faculties are the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmaceutical, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Psychology, Social Sciences and Politics, Law, Economics, Public Health, Humanities, and Computer Sciences. There are 291 programs of study currently available with 47,166 students, among which 309 are international students enrolled in a degree and non-degree programs. The Universitas Indonesia logo was created in 1952 by Sumaxtono (his real name was Sumartono), a Faculty of Engineering Design Art student of 1951, Universiteit Indonesia, Bandung. The tree with its branches and buds symbolizes the tree of knowledge with its different branches of knowledge, while the buds will take one day to bloom to become new branches of knowledge. The buds will continue to bloom for as long as the tree of knowledge lives, in that Sumaxtono intended to declare that the branches of knowledge will develop according to our needs and progress in time. The Makara, which pours out water, symbolizes the output which flows in every direction. The meaning given by Sumaxtono was that Universitas Indonesia, as the source of knowledge, produces graduates who are intelligent, skillful, faithful, and have high integrity and personality. They are also open, responsive to change, and the progress of knowledge and technology and the people's issues and can solve these issues by their scholarly principles, where ever they are. Prof. KRHT H. Srihadi Soedarsono Adhikoesoemo, M.A., who designed the logo for Institute Teknologi Bandung (the Bandung Institute of Technology), does not know when and where the logo was made official. What is certain is that the cover of the book Universiteit Indonesia, Fakulteit Teknik, Bandung: Rentjana Untuk Tahun Peladjaran 1952-1953 [1952-1953 Academic Year Plan] (AID Publishing, Bandung, 120 pages) used the logo created by Sumaxtono for Universitas Indonesia for the first time (without the pentagon frame of the current logo). - Not long after the Republic of Indonesia (1945), some national figures who were also Indonesian Christian leaders were moved and felt the need to establish a Church Council in Indonesia (DGI). The hope was only implemented on May 25, 1950. At the beginning of its activities, this institution has also given considerable attention to education because, at that time, the Indonesian people desperately need human resources to fill the field of employment in various aspects of life. This need is urgent. Thought would want the Indonesian Christian community to participate in the world of education continues to grow in the discussions that took place in this institution. Even thought about the need to establish a "Universiteit." On that basis, DGI formed a commission led by prof. Dr. IP Simanjuntak, MA. The commission is in charge of establishing a feasibility study to establish a university whose results are reported to DGI. As a follow-up, the DGI passed a resolution on the Christian Universiteit on June 30, 1953. The resolution signed by Ds. J Rumambi, as the General Secretary of DGI, in the DGI Complete Meeting from June 20-30, 1953, proposed to all churches and Christian communities in Indonesia to fully assist the establishment of Christian Universiteit, both morally and materially. Moving from the resolution, then the Christian figures of Indonesia, namely Mr. Todung Sutan Gunung Mulia, Mr. Yap Thiam Hien, Benjamin Thomas Philip Sugar, on behalf of DGI churches (now PGI), founded the Indonesian Christian University Foundation in the presence of a notary Raden Kadima, with the number 117 certificate, dated July 18, 1953. Komarlin Tjakraatmadja, Gerrit Siwabessy MD, Tan Tek Heng, and JCT Simorangkir. Three months later, on October 15, 1953, it was inaugurated Christian University of Indonesia (UKI) consisting of: Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, with Sub-faculty: Pedagogy and Literature, and Faculty of Economics. At that time, lectures and administrative activities are still underway at the HSK building located on Jl. Diponegoro 86, and in three flats on Jl. Salemba 10. In the course of his devotion, the Faculty of Law was established (1956), Faculty of Medicine (1962), Faculty of Engineering (1963), and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (1994). Until now, UKI has seven faculty consisting of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Literature (FS), Economics (FE), Law (FH), Medicine (FK), Engineering (FT), Social Sciences and Political Science (FISIPOL). - Establishing a catholic university in Indonesia was proposed at a meeting between bishops of Java held in Jakarta on 1st June 1952. To respond to this idea, the Atma Jaya Foundation was formed by a group of young Catholic intellectuals on 1st June 1960. This foundation established a catholic university named Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya (Atma Jaya Catholic University). Among these young catholic intellectuals were: Ir. J.P.Cho, Drs. Lo Siang Hien-Ginting, Drs. Goei Tjong Tik, I.J. Kasimo, J.B. Legiman S.H., Drs. F.X. Seda, Dr. Pang Lay Kim, Ir. Tan Bian Seng, Dr. Anton Moeliono, St. Munadjat Danusaputro S.H., Drs. J.F. Tan, and Drs. Ben Mang-Reng Say. In its early years, Unika Atma Jaya was supported by the Ursuline Sisters. They kindly lent the University their classrooms in the Ursuline school complex on Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara and Santa Theresia complex in Menteng. Since 1967, Atma Jaya has gradually occupied a permanent campus on the Jalan Sudirman campus, known as the Semanggi Campus. The Faculty of Medicine, the Atma Jaya hospital, and the Atma Jaya funeral home occupy the Pluit Campus in North Jakarta. The phrase "Atma Jaya" means a glorious (victorious/prosperous) spirit. A glorious spirit always encourages to increase the quality of education. The academic excellence and professional graduates are the eminent orientation. The University's vision is to be a leading university with academic and professional excellence at the international and national level, which consistently expresses the combination between the Christian Faith, science, technology, and the Indonesian culture to develop the people's minds. The University carries out the following missions: To implement an academic and professional education to develop science, professionalism, and characteristics of the students. To carry out necessary and applied research to advance science, technology, and art and culture (IPTEKS) To volunteer its expertise in IPTEKS to benefit society. To manage the University effectively and efficiently in an ethical and prestigious academic atmosphere. "For God and the Country," said the founders of Atma Jaya when stating their identity. After its establishment half a century ago, the whole civitas academica of Atma Jaya always strives to contextualize the spirits brought by the founders into contemporary development. In the commemoration of Lustrum XI in 2015, the big theme "Growing together with the Nation" was put forward. The choice for this theme again emphasizes that Atma Jaya and the nation's growth are separable because this is the most important reason. Raison d'etre. This 2015-2019 period is essential for the Atma Jaya community because the BSD campus will begin its operation. Therefore, Unika Atma Jaya now has three campuses: Semanggi, Pluit, and BSD Campus. In its Long-term Development Plan in 2015-2029, the three Atma Jaya campuses will have their unique services to the nation: The Semanggi Campus will become the Center for Nation Development. BSD Campus will become the Center for Human Development. The Pluit Campus, which consists of the Faculty of Medicine and Atma Jaya Teaching Hospital, will be dedicated to becoming the Center for Health Development. At the moment, Unika Atma Jaya has 18 Sarjana (Bachelor’s Degree) programs, 8 Magister (Master’s Degree) Programs, 2 Professional Programs and 1 Doctoral Program. In research, there are 4 Research Centers and 1 Community Empowerment Center under the coordination of Research and Community Service Institution (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Masyarakat/LPPM).

- Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) or the Indonesia University of Education was established on October 20, 1954, in Bandung, and was officially inaugurated by the Indonesian Minister of Education, Mr. Muhammad Yamin. The university was formerly named Perguruan Tinggi Pendidikan Guru (PTPG) or Teachers College, aimed at educating and developing the young Indonesian nation's intellectual capacity to make benefits from its new independence. Two primary considerations for its early establishment included a growing concern for education during the early period of Indonesia's independence and an increasing demand for more qualified teachers for a more prosperous Indonesian society. In its early establishment, the main building of early Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia was initially only a relic villa named Isola, which had been existed before World War II. In the struggle era against Dutch colonialism, this building was used as the headquarter of freedom fighters. During the early period of Indonesia's independence in the 1940s, it was then renovated and changed into a magnificently artistic Bumi Siliwangi Building. The four research centers are HIV-AIDS Research Center (Pusat Penelitian HIV-AIDS/PPH), Center of Community Development Study (Pusat Kajian Pembangunan Masyarakat/PKPM), Center of Language and Culture (Pusat Kajian Budaya dan Bahasa/PKBB) and Center of Ethical Development (Pusat Pengembangan Etika/PPE). In Pluit, we have the Health Research Center (Pusat Penelitian Kesehatan /Puslitkes) while the Community Service Center (Pusat Pengabdian Masyarakat/PPM) is a medium for cross faculties community service activities. Aside from that, Atma Jaya also has Applied Science Affiliation Institution (Lembaga Afiliasi Ilmu Terapan/LAIT) which coordinates various activities such as language courses (Center of Language Teaching), publishing, etc. In the future, Semanggi Campus will become the center for Magister/Master's Degree programs, courses, certifications, and other non-degree programs, aside from becoming the center for academic or applied research activities. Semanggi Campus will be the "integrator" for Business-Government – Community. The Pluit Campus has a long history of conducting various programs, a joint program with the DKI City Government. Programs such as Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) in several places in Jakarta are a synergy among campus, industry, government, and the community. Aside from the national issues, the founders give their undivided attention to the marginal groups. As a part of the Catholic Higher Education institution, Atma Jaya implements the principle of Preferential Option for the Poor. The spirit of building the nation based on the principle of caring for the nation is translated into the Entrepreneurial and Social-Oriented University. In the 2015-2019 period, we have three pillars of main work programs, which are: to improve the Academic Reputation, to accelerate Organizational Transformation and also, to increase Social Awareness. Through systematic and continuous efforts, we firmly believe that Unika Atma Jaya will become one of Indonesia's reference universities.
