      1. The University of Detroit Mercy is Michigan's largest and most comprehensive Catholic University, sponsored by the Religious Sisters of Mercy and the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). Today's University boasts the heritage of two founding institutions: the University of Detroit, founded in 1877 by the Jesuits, and Mercy College of Detroit, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1941. The two consolidated as the University of Detroit Mercy in 1990. Detroit Mercy offers more than 100 academic degrees and programs through seven schools and colleges. The current enrollment is approximately 5,000 students. Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi serves as the 25th president of the University. The University of Detroit Mercy, a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions, exists to provide excellent student-centered undergraduate and graduate education in an urban context. A Detroit Mercy education seeks to integrate our students' intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and social development. The University of Detroit Mercy will be recognized as a premier private university in the Great Lakes region, distinguished by graduates who lead and serve in their communities. The University of Detroit Mercy offers just the right balance of challenge, support, and hands-on experience to meet your educational goals. A Detroit Mercy education is top tier — and the value is unbeatable. We offer more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs delivered in small classes taught by distinguished faculty. Whether you know exactly what you want to study or don't yet have a clue, Detroit Mercy has an academic program for you. We offer a comprehensive slate of majors and degrees, including highly respected programs in architecture, nursing, psychology, and the sciences, as well as some—such as digital media studies—that are unique to Detroit Mercy. Our business and engineering programs take full advantage of Detroit Mercy's deep connections to local financial and manufacturing firms. Our pre-med, pre-dent, and pre-law programs are first-rate. Also, our unique 5-year and 7-year programs accelerate your progress, allowing you to earn both a bachelor's and a master's degree in a growing field, such as Physician Assistant and Cybersecurity programs. No matter what you choose to study, Detroit Mercy's firm grounding in the liberal arts will ensure you have the communication and critical thinking skills you need to thrive in any environment. With a graduate degree from the Detroit Mercy, you'll gain a respected credential as well as knowledge and skills you'll use for the rest of your career. Just look at our successful alumni. Our law school graduates have served as Michigan Supreme Court justices and sat on every court in the tri-county area. Our Nurse Anesthesia graduates scored 100 percent on the national certification exam for the past year, compared to the national average of 84 percent. And a third of all Michigan dentists are graduates of our School of Dentistry. Finding financial resources to defray some of the costs you will incur is an integral part of your overall search for your school of choice. Detroit Mercy may offer some institutional financial assistance to international students (not including ALCP coursework). Students who are not U.S. citizens nor eligible non-citizens are not eligible for U.S. Federal and State funding. You may wish to check with your government and agencies within your home country for possible resources. The mission of the University of Detroit Mercy is to provide an education that supports the intellectual, ethical, social, and spiritual development of every student. Your participation in one of UDM's online programs will enhance your understanding, values, and abilities. More importantly, the degree or certificate you earn will provide you with a recognized credential that will make you an attractive employee to employers. UDM's online programs are unlike other distance education experiences. The quality of the curriculum and the dedication of the faculty that teach each course is outstanding. UDM values each student and strives to make their educational experiences personalized, productive, and successful. You will be engaged with your faculty and student colleagues in small online classes. The faculty will be attentive to your specific needs and academic progress. Course directors include full and part-time faculty who are experts in their field with real-life experiences integrated into the courses they teach. Each online course is carefully structured to provide you with an opportunity to learn and achieve. Every year the University of Detroit Mercy welcomes hundreds of first-year students, transfer, and graduate students from countries worldwide. International students add an invaluable dimension of cultural diversity to life at Detroit Mercy. Your college experience should be more than just a classroom education. You are more than your major, and the Detroit Mercy experience extends beyond academics. From living on campus, joining a student group, rooting on one of our 19 NCAA Division I teams, or taking advantage of all the city of Detroit to offer, there is always something to do at Detroit Mercy. The mission of Information Technology Services (ITS) is to provide easily accessible, useful information and global communication services to the University community to enhance teaching, learning, research, and management, and use technology as a critical enabler in pursuit of the University mission. 6. We are founded on the 470-year-old Jesuit educational goal of forming men for others for the Greater Glory of God. Our graduates are leaders in their communities. They strive to be competent, religious, loving, open to growth, and committed to justice. When you meet our graduates, you will find that they are leaders: in the business world, in the arts, in religious life, in politics, in the sciences and technology, in sports, and especially in the community. Our school and Jesuit education aim to prepare our young men to be leaders-- to engage the world, not just to observe it. As you encounter our students and graduates, you see that they are well rounded and confident as they strive for the Magis, excellence in all things. This is part of the Jesuit goal of "Cura personals," the formation of the whole person: mind, spirit, and body. A U of D Jesuit graduate has learned to feel compassion for the victims of injustice and has a sense of urgency to implement societal changes that will help such victims protect their rights and human dignity. He is involved in public service and feels an obligation as a Christian to participate in the building of a humane, civic, and ecclesial community in a way that respects the pluralism of that community. We offer this kind of education because we want our students to do well and make a difference in their world. When the first Jesuit schools were founded 470 years ago, their goal was to do God's work and work with others for the good of all in the Kingdom of God's service. Jesuit education helps students realize that talents are gifts to be developed, not for self-satisfaction or self-gain, but rather, with God's help, for the good of the entire human family. "Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam," for the greater glory of God. University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is committed to providing the highest quality of Jesuit college preparatory education to young men in southeast Michigan. In collaboration with parents, U of D Jesuit will challenge its students to go beyond academic excellence, be reflective, be committed to the service of personal faith, and the promotion of justice: to be men for others. Since 1877, U of D Jesuit has earned a reputation for academic excellence and a commitment to faith and service. In part, this reputation encourages students from the entire Metro Detroit area to attend 'The High.' Attracting students from St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe to the East, Dearborn and Grosse Ile to the South, Plymouth and Northville to the West, Rochester Hills and Bloomfield Hills to the North, the city of Detroit, and all points in between, is only one aspect that makes U of D Jesuit unique. More than 940 students in grades seven through twelve currently attend You of D Jesuit. In 2018, our 168 seniors were accepted into four-year universities, community colleges, or military service academies such as the University of Michigan, Colgate, Boston University, United States Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Boston College, Michigan State, and University of Southern California. Also, they were awarded more than $23 million in scholarships and grants. Since 2000, U of D Jesuit has had more National Merit and National Achievement Semi-Finalists than any other Catholic school in the state. In the beautiful Jesuit tradition, U of D Jesuit is not solely interested in "the numbers" - we seek to enroll a diverse student body of young men who are academically ambitious and who are open to the idea of growing and maturing into "Men for Others." Our goal is to form students who are open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice. U of D Jesuit is proudly accredited by the Jesuit Schools Network (JSN) and North Central Association, an accrediting division of AdvancED. JSN initiates programs and provides services that enable its member schools to sustain their Ignatian vision and Jesuit mission of educational excellence in forming young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion. Our accreditation by the North Central Association demonstrates our dedication to continuous improvement in all that we do. View full school
