      1. At George Carey Church of England Primary School, children are at the heart of everything that we do. We pride ourselves in our child-centered approaches and the pupil's voice is valued. We are located within the Rivergate Community Centre at the heart of the Barking Riverside development an area that continues to grow. As such we are at the center of this new, rich and diverse community. We deliver much of the curriculum through a cross-curricular topic-based approach using Cornerstones. Specific details of what that means for each year group can be found on the Cornerstones part of the website. Mathematics is generally taught separately and independently from the topics of the Cornerstones. As a Church of England Primary School, much of our teaching is explicitly Christian and we promote Christian values throughout all that we do. We follow the Diocese of Chelmsford R.E. curriculum. Children learn about other world religions as well as Christianity, promoting tolerance and understanding between people of all faiths and also those with no strong religious beliefs. We believe that the curriculum should be rich and stimulating and that children should be excited and engaged in their learning. Learning does not necessarily have to take place within classrooms and we aim to exploit the learning opportunities offered by our grounds and in the local environment. The most important underlying principle of a curriculum is to help children learn. We believe that a successful curriculum is brought to life by high-quality teaching, inspirational learning activities, and opportunities to listen and plan for the developing interests and motivations of children. Cornerstones Curriculum is delivered through a range of inspirational yet rigorous learning projects. These are based on the National Curriculum but bring learning together in new and exciting ways. Each project combines different strands of learning so that children learn more holistically and start to challenge themselves and learn problem-solving skills as they create truly fantastic learning opportunities. Science should be fun and practical with hands-on activities, using scientific vocabulary and theory as to how, why, where, and when. We want the children to be motivated to ask questions of a scientific nature and to have the opportunity to experience science firsthand, in line with the National Curriculum. Science is integrated into our Cornerstones Curriculum. This enables children to meet science in the context of a wider topic. For more information on the specific content of our science curriculum please see the Wider Curriculum page or ask a teacher. The agreement sets out the school’s commitment to your child and the action parents should take to support us. We take seriously our responsibility to offer your child a good education and so the agreement also outlines the school’s roles and responsibilities and contains the key principles, rules, and expectations by which the school operates. The SLT and Governors at George Carey Church of England Primary School have planned to use the Sports Premium this year to enrich the P.E. curriculum for a large number of children using the Sports Premium. The funding represents £10.00 per child plus £16,000. This complements additional money from the overall school budget, which is used to provide a wealth of sports and physical activities for all children. We believe that the funding should be used to involve and interest children in a variety of physical activities and the aim is for children to take up sports and games for the long term, which in turn will give them good attitudes to exercise and help to make them more active, stronger, leading to better health and fitness. The development of the Rivergate community was first conceived approximately 20 years ago as part of a plan to develop the Thames Gateway to the East of London along the North bank of the Thames. This has been one of the biggest development projects in Europe. Opened in September 2011, the school, along with the Rivergate Centre, was the first community building completed within the new development. The school is named after George Carey, a former Archbishop of Canterbury, who was born and raised in Dagenham. Lord and Lady Carey formally opened the school on 27th March 2012. George Carey School was set up as a Voluntary Aided School within the Diocese of Chelmsford under the umbrella of the Church of England. The school was designed and conceived as a community facility that could work in partnership with the Rivergate Centre. The school was first open to pupils on 12th September 2011 with 250 pupils on roll and a staff of 35. Since then we have grown to over 600 pupils with a staff of 90, and we are still growing. We had an Ofsted inspection in October 2012 after just 13 months of being open. It was a major achievement to achieve an overall grade of ‘good’ after such a short period. We are now looking to the future and have set a strong ambition towards ‘outstanding’ provision shortly. View full school
      2. Internationally recognized as an innovative leader in education for over 25 years, Carey College is small by design. That gives us the flexibility, small classes, and extensive course options that grow each child's knowledge, faith, values, and skills. Success is experienced, service is modeled, faith and excellence are valued. Classes are small. Students can be taught and achieve as individuals. The particular skills, knowledge and needs a key to each child's learning are identified and shape personal learning. Christian character and attitudes, such as planning, managing feelings, facing challenges, persevering, caring for others, sharing and working together, and living by faith, are taught and modeled. Carey College is named after pioneer missionary William Carey. His life is an outstanding example of Christian faith applied to practical living and useful service. He exemplifies the Christianity the College is committed to. The college opened in 1988 as a Primary School and added its first Primary Distance Learning pupils in 1989. As the College has grown, so too has its ministry, with Secondary Distance Learning pupils beginning in 1991 and the Secondary Class in 1993. Our College motto is Psalm 36:9: "For with you is the fountain of life in your light we see light" The Bible is God’s Word to guide and direct every part of the Christian’s life. We use it to shape our teaching methods and the content of lessons. Our courses teach children to look to the Bible to shape their studies and to help them be discerning as they confront the varied fields of knowledge that make up the school curriculum. In this way, we aim to help parents train children in faithful service to Christ. At the very heart of the Christian faith, and therefore at the very heart of the ministry of Carey College, is this declaration about Jesus: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Among the key principles of the Christian faith that influence the character of the College and are incorporated into its Statement of Faith are: The Bible is the Word of God God, eternal in three Persons, is the Creator and Sovereign of Heaven and Earth The Lord Jesus Christ became man (while remaining fully God), died to save his people from their sins, rose, is alive forevermore and will return in glory The fear of God is necessary for true knowledge and wisdom Teaching is a spiritual activity If you would like a copy of our full Statement of Faith, based on the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith as its doctrinal foundation. The main goal of education is to teach children to glorify, serve and enjoy their Creator. It is only as God is reverenced and known that any fact is properly understood or able to be widely used. Carey College is dedicated to helping parents nurture a generation for Christ in excellence and truth. To do this we have two aims: We aim to bring children to a knowledge of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord by challenging children to believe in Christ, and showing them how his Lordship applies in every part of the curriculum We aim to bring children to self-disciplined maturity, able to live vital, Christ-like lives as effective citizens, by laying a solid foundation of skills, knowledge, and Christian values We aim to have a school where children are safe and well-taught rules and policies are minimal, constructive, and helpful and everyone can have clarity about what is expected and how we do things. So we publish as many of our policies as possible. The main things you might want to know are listed below: click on the text to read any item. If there is anything else you want to know, please ask. 3. William Carey Christian School was founded in 1984 with only four students as the realization of the vision of a small group of committed families who saw the need for a Christian school in the Liverpool and Campbelltown region. Since this small start in a local church hall, we have grown to become a Prep to Year 12 co-educational school community of over 1300 students, offering a wide range of learning opportunities and challenging and supporting all of our students to excel in their growth and success. William Carey Christian School is committed to transforming lives by the gospel's proclamation and delivering an excellent Christian education accessible to the whole community. Our students grow in understanding of living God's way in God's word as God's image. We offer a wide range of subjects that are taught with a biblical perspective. Students participate in Biblical Studies lessons and experience the positive impact Christian lives have on others. Learning is the focus of all activities. All our students are well-known and are encouraged to learn with a growth mindset. Learning occurs through ICT-rich, differentiated, and engaging programs, delivered by teachers who are well informed by student data and evidence-based educational research. We offer a wide range of sporting and extracurricular opportunities to complement the subjects taught in class. Students learn best in an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning community and environment. Our school's pastoral care and welfare programs equip and support students in their learning, promoting a strong sense of belonging and building godly relationships with each other and the community to meet life challenges now and in the future. We firmly believe that schools have a crucial role in partnering with families to prepare students for adult life in a rapidly changing world. As such, our students learn how to learn and develop attributes that will equip them well for their future. We work alongside families to develop our students' attributes of understanding, creativity, clear communication and collaboration, respect, service and leadership, and making wise and courageous choices. This holistic approach to student learning provides a strong start to life. Our school's motto, "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God," was coined by William Carey, who devoted his life to India's mission and is considered the "father of modern missions." We trust in what God has done and has promised to do, and, in turn, we inspire our students to respond and trust in God and the gifts he has given them to grow and excel at school and attempt great things now and in their futures. William Carey Christian School is a community that has the gospel at its heart; therefore, we intentionally care for and support each other. Through a partnership with parents and carers, WCCS engages young people in the highest quality learning activities while promoting well-being and respect. At Carey, we value and empower families and staff alike. We encourage students to be lifelong learners by ensuring that our staff also actively engage in continuous learning through professional development and researching best practices. Our teachers are passionate and knowledgeable about their subject content, and they know each of their students well. The foundation of WCCS rests on the philosophy of head, heart, and hands, which encompasses a holistic approach to the Bible. Within this approach, we recognize that knowledge (head), passion (heart), and actions (hands) are of equal importance in living a life of Christian integrity. WCCS parents regularly comment that our school is an intentionally nurturing environment where all staff actively care for students and their families. Our priority as educators is to set our students up for life by catering to their individual needs.
      4. Carey is a community of people united by a shared dream. We long for nothing less than a world transformed by Christ’s love, and we believe as a community that we are called on a mission with God to attempt the extraordinary. Central to our purpose is Carey Baptist College. Established in 1998, Carey Baptist College has grown into a leading co-educational Christian school in Perth’s south-east. The College is well known and respected for its holistic education of students in academic excellence and pastoral care, together with it is passionate local community service. Our founding campus in Harrisdale offers an established co-educational College, educating over 1400 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Carey Baptist College established its Forrestdale campus in 2016 and has partnered with local families in developing a vibrant community with an expanding co-educational offering of Primary and Secondary education. This campus currently offers Kindergarten to Year 6 education, expanding into Secondary School in 2019. When we look at the people, resources, and expertise God has drawn together at Carey, the future looks exciting. We see a time when there will be Carey campuses in Perth, Australia, and beyond. There will be an increased capacity to provide education and support to people who would never be able to provide it for themselves. We see a future where we will provide hope and compassion to some of the most impoverished and most oppressed people globally – where we bring some of our capacity and expertise to work alongside others to support them in their work in education and with families. We see a change in the cultural climate for communities worldwide where a voice of hope and compassion increases, and cynicism, fear, and oppression are decreasing. We plan to build our capacity to enable us to be part of this transforming vision. This is a compelling but more distant future, and to get there, much needs to be done. The next step is to consolidate our work at Harrisdale and to develop the Forrestdale campus. Carey is committed to excellence and is conscious that this is not achieved without intentional and focused effort. Our credibility is at stake, and we are never content with the substandard or dreary. The dual theme for this stage will be Realising our Potential – Positioning for Impact. With a new campus about to open in Forrestdale and a newly built community center at Harrisdale, much of the energy and activity in this next stage will be devoted to ensuring that the potential offered by these new ventures is realized. The balance will be taken by positioning ourselves for future longer-term impact. Carey Baptist College has two campuses, Harrisdale and Forrestdale. Carey Harrisdale currently educates 1450 students across Early Learning Centre (Kindergarten to Year 1), Primary School (Years 2 to 6), and Secondary School (Years 7 to 12), and Carey Forrestdale educates Kindergarten to Year 5 students, eventually growing to Kindergarten to Year 12. Carey’s unique structure is designed to assist students as they make critical transitions through childhood and adolescence. When considered together with the high standards of academic rigor and pastoral care, Carey Baptist College is an investment in your children’s future.
      5. Schools are primarily about young people, and especially about helping them become the best they can be. We offer our girls and boys every opportunity to grow into communicative, creative, critically-thinking, curious, and community-minded young adults. Carey students are offered flexible pathways to achieve their goals and develop clear strategies to achieve them. We expect our students to think, problem-solve, reflect, and respond to the meaningful feedback they receive. We also believe passionately in co-education and maintain a 50:50 balance of girls and boys across the whole school. We actively foster an environment in which healthy, respectful friendships are built. At Carey, we also believe that the quality of the education your children receive can never exceed our staff's quality, and the Carey staff is outstanding. They are passionate about education, highly qualified, and enthusiastic people who have the best interests of our students at heart in everything they do, whether it is a part of our academic program, co-curricular activities, or caring for student well-being. Carey was founded in 1923 with the Baptist Union of Victoria's support, initially as a day and boarding school for boys. Our school is named in honor of Revd. Dr. William Carey, a Baptist missionary and self-taught language scholar who dedicated much of his life to India's humanitarian work in the 18th Century. His life of service, faith, and commitment to learning is central to the core of the school's philosophy today. Each child in the ELC is valued for who they are. We welcome the differences in development, personality, and ability that every child brings, and we recognize that families and parenting styles are as different as the children themselves. We work with families to ensure trust, open communication, and consistency in approach. It is important to us that every child in our care begins his or her schooling with confidence. Our ELC program offers many exciting and different experiences for the children, but most importantly, they are also given the freedom and encouragement to explore their interests and curiosity. Teachers closely observe and document each child's development, learning, and play, creating a lasting record of each student's educational journey throughout the year: physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Our ELC students enjoy their purpose-built, separate sections within the school. This allows for the future years of schooling to be anticipated with enthusiasm and for older students to visit the Centre for outstanding performances, reading, or sports activities. At Carey, we nurture the whole person. In our Junior Schools, we offer a broad range of activities and personal development programs to promote well-being, creativity, and confidence. Students also engage in community service, leadership, and social justice programs, learning the importance of respect, understanding, inclusion, and a strong moral compass. Learning is also fun at Carey for the students and their teachers and extends beyond the school's boundaries in excursions and activities that explore the world. At this critical time in young adolescents' social and intellectual development, we have tailored the physical and educational environment to meet their particular needs. Our co-educational environment also develops a strong sense of respect, trust, and friendship between girls and boys. The Middle School's motto is 'Challenge and Choice.' Our teaching and learning environment offers an extensive range of study options that will motivate and encourage every student. We cater to all levels of ability and allow students to explore their specific interests. Our focus on 'real-world learning' also takes students well beyond our campus's boundaries, mainly through interdisciplinary units. All Middle School students use notebook computers to support their learning, and our purpose-built classrooms allow teachers and students extraordinary flexibility. Classrooms in Middle School offer various seating options and table styles from high stools and benches to couches and large screen displays, interactive mobile touchscreen TVs, and retractable walls so that teachers and students can arrange spaces to suit their learning and teaching needs. The transitions from Junior School and to Senior School are managed carefully and sensitively for our Year 7 and Year 9 before their first or last day arrives. They will already feel a part of their new Carey environment. Our Middle School is separate but not isolated from our Junior and Senior Schools, allowing for cross-age activities with both younger and older students. In all areas of our program, we are mindful of students' well-being, with our House system providing our pastoral program's core. Students are divided into cross-age Mentor Groups in the Middle School, with the same House Mentor moving through the Middle School with their group. Also, many Year 7 classes are held in homerooms to enhance the sense of security and stability. We help the young men and women in Years 10, 11, and 12 to prepare for tertiary study and life beyond secondary school, providing an environment specifically designed to help them become self-directed, lifelong learners. Our Year 12 classes regularly achieve Carey results in the top schools of the State, and a large percentage of our students receive offers to top local and international universities. We also understand that life is about more than academic success. Each of our students' well-being is of paramount importance at Carey, and our House system ensures that each student's welfare is carefully monitored. Students belong to small Mentor groups and are supported by a dedicated pastoral care team of counselors, psychologists, chaplains, career advisers, and learning skills specialists. Leadership opportunities, community service projects, and our broad range of co-curricular activities and sports enrich the experience of Senior School. Every step of the way, we provide guidance and support to students and their families.

We had an Ofsted inspection in October 2012 after just 13 months of being open. It was a major achievement to achieve an overall grade of ‘good’ after such a short period. We are now looking to the future and have set a strong ambition towards ‘outstanding’ provision shortly.
      7. View full school
      8. View full school
      9. View full school
