  3. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is a public higher education institute operating as a central budgetary institution. The Minister of Human Capacities has issued its founding regulation. Its organizational and operational conditions are summarized in its regulation under laws. Education, research, innovation, and direct additional services are proceeded by the faculties. Work-sharing between the faculties are subject-oriented both in the fields of education and that of technology. The faculties consist of departments, institutes, and research centers supported by deans offices and other units. To enhance the sustainability and the scope of cooperation, the focus of the Center for University-Industry Cooperation (FIEK) is to encourage synergies between different areas. Governing is assisted by the Rectors Office and the Chancellors Office. There is a highly independent group of integrated internal control. Service units support faculties and student organizations. Other organizations like companies established or owned by the University, welfare institutions, student or teacher activity groups, and other organizations associated with the University. The Rector is the top manager and representative of the University. The Chancellor ensures the technical conditions, the administration, and the financial management to complete the University's functions. The Rector and the Chancellor regularly call Executive Board meetings to prepare strategic decisions. Employment relations are regulated in the Annex of the Human Resource Policy. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Hungary's leading higher education institution in engineering, is celebrating in 2017 the 235th anniversary of its predecessor's foundation. Our Strategy is in line with the government's objectives, outlined in the publication entitled A Change of Pace in Higher Education: Each University and college needs to focus on its own distinguishable and prioritized field of study, meaning that the institutions should have a clear program profile and provide world-class education in their field. This publication is the summary of the Senate of the University's Strategy, supplemented with the latest statistical data of our institution. Our institution, founded in 1782 under Institutum Geometrico-Hydrotechnicum, has been the top higher education institution in Hungary. It also has a well-established international reputation. The foundation of the University's effectiveness is the devoted educational activities of our professors and our students' hard work and enthusiasm. These values ensure the stability and continuity of education, scientific research, and technological development. Students who feel talented and skilled may join various development projects already during their university years. When they continue their studies from the necessary degree to the Masters's qualifications, we aim to fine-tune their knowledge and skills to become excellent development and research engineers. Those who wish to proceed with their scientific studies may join Ph.D. courses, which will provide a sound basis and guiding framework to reach their professional targets. All these opportunities ensure that the University of Technology has become one of the leading research universities in Hungary and is well-known for its scientific results abroad. It is also vital that young people join our programs should become excellent professionals and educated persons in the broadest sense. There are various opportunities for intellectual activities at the University, and professors tend to convey professional skills and their attitudes, values, and viewpoints that may enrich students' perceptions. The eight faculties of the University of Technology have their characteristics, but they all aim at outstanding educational results. The faculties cover such broad scientific areas that are well enough to understand and study within the courses' time frames. Qualified professionals have strong technological and scientific base knowledge and economic skills and can also apply structural approaches to various processes. Past years have proven that degrees from and the knowledge and skills obtained at the University of Technology are a valuable passport to the work market. Besides the Hungarian language, there are opportunities to study in foreign languages – mainly in English. Our students can join international exchange programs and spend some – longer or shorter - time abroad to obtain special skills and good command of foreign languages and make new friends. In the University of Technology's unique atmosphere, our students follow the specific values of the University, and this is the best that can happen to them! When I was a student, the same thing happened to me, and it has worked out to start a very fruitful and meaningful professional career. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is a prestigious higher education institution in Hungary. Its primary mission is to educate professionals in technology, informatics, natural sciences, economics, business, and management. The University's mission, inseparable from education, is to cultivate the sciences, to do scientific research, which encompasses fundamental and applied research, technological product and service development, and exploitation of results making up the innovation chain. Thanks to the high-level undergraduate degree programs built on a general basis and the subsequent master's programs for the fine-tuning of their knowledge, students graduating from BME have a wide range of employment opportunities geographically and in terms of the field of employment as well. The institution's several doctoral schools qualify students for scientific researcher-developer careers. In the Hungarian higher education rankings, the University's technology and informatics degree programs take the first place, and the sciences and economics degree programs are among the best ones. For BME, however, international rankings are the real measure. Currently, BME's budget is made up of one-half state subsidy and own one-half revenues. The faculties, covering a wide range of activities, acquire funds through Hungarian and EU tenders, and they have access to market resources owing to their solid industry partnerships. In the past years, the University has established an operating model that ensures a continuously balanced budgetary management capable of creating its contribution necessary for development without an internal deficit. 'Facts and Figures' accounts for the University's quantifiable and measurable activities, primarily focusing on education and scientific research. We hope that this publication will reassure all our partners, including decision-makers, economic actors, scientific bodies, and competitors, that the Budapest University of Technology and Economics remains worthy of trust and cooperation.
  4. 6The Budapest Business School, Hungary's market-leading and largest university, educating some 16 000 students, was established due to the Hungarian higher education integration, and on 1 January 2000, the three legal predecessors were merged. The predecessor of the FCCT was the Academy of Commerce, established in 1857. Expanded by the Eastern Academy of Commerce in 1899, this was the first college of commerce in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, in the Central European region. Experts for commerce and banking were trained at this School. After World War II till 1962, there was a secondary school of commerce operating in the impressive old building in Alkotmány street. By restructuring education, it became a Commercial School of Higher Education. Building upon traditions, it was given college status in 1969 by the College of Commerce and Catering name. The Institution finally adopted today's name, implying independent tourism training in 1992. The history of the FIMB dates back to 1957. At this time, the International Commercial Correspondence School was established to train highly qualified experts in commerce who speak foreign languages. In 1962 the School became an independent International Commercial School of Higher Education. In 1971 it was granted College status by the name of College of Foreign Trade. In 1992 two dual award programs were launched in English and French in cooperation with two international partner institutions of higher education. At present, some 4.000 students are studying the various programs offered by the FIMB. The history of the FFA can be traced back to the shared common origins of economic, vocational training of higher education, to the Pest Academy of Commerce established in 1857, then to the Eastern Academy of Commerce. In a strict sense, the College of Accountancy establishment in 1953 can be regarded as the date of foundation. The Institution took the name of the College of Finance and Accountancy in 1970-1971. A regional institute of the college was founded in Zalaegerszeg in 1971-1972, and another one was set up in Salgótarján the following year. Since then, FFA has become the flagship college of higher education in finance and accountancy. Graduates of the legal predecessor institutions and already of the BBS in the past years have become the most widely recognized and the most sought-after experts in the domestic labor market; several of them are prominent personalities of the Hungarian society and economy. In September 2006, eight undergraduate (BA) educational programs (Human Resources, Business Administration and Management, Commerce and Marketing, Communication and Media Science, International Business Economics, Finance and Accounting, Tourism and Catering, Business Teacher Training) were launched under the 'Bologna system.' In September 2008, the first independent post-graduate (MA) educational program (Teacher of Economics) was launched, which was followed by two new programs (Marketing, Tourism Management) in February 2009, and by three new ones (International Relations, Finance, Accounting) in September 2009. On 28 April 2010, the Budapest Business School received a Higher Education Quality Award to recognize its outstanding quality improvement achievement. In September 2010, the Business Administration doctoral (Ph.D.) program of Anglia Ruskin University was started due to the cooperation agreement between Anglia Ruskin University and the Budapest Business School (BBS). In 2016 BBS received the title of "University of Applied Sciences." In the academic year 2017-2018, Budapest Business School offers 12 undergraduate programs, six post-graduate programs, 21 short-cycle higher education programs, 48 post-graduate diploma courses, and a wide choice of adult educational programs. Ten programs, including three master programs, are launched in English, German or French as well. The Ministry of Education and Culture gave the Higher Education Quality Award in 2010 to recognize the quality management activity of the Budapest Business School. The quality policy of the university is formulated considering the following factors: The main requirement of the social and economic environment in the 21st century is the assurance of continuous improvement of Quality of Life through the complex quality management system of educational level, institutional infrastructure, institutional environment, our external partners, levels of knowledge, existential safety of our internal partners. Meeting the Bologna Declaration's requirements concerning the single quality management activity assuring transferability of credits, matching criteria, and methods in higher education institutions in the EU. Quality management work is co-ordinated by the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee under the Senate; operative tasks are performed by the Quality Management Office in collaboration with quality management representatives of individual faculties. The BBS, quality management system, was implemented step by step, and even today, it is under continuous development. On the accreditation in 2005, the Quality Management Manual (at present its third version is in force) was drawn up by the already appropriate quality management organizational unit, and Quality Management policy was formulated. The BBS's quality management system is fundamentally based on higher education quality management standards (ENQA/2005), and it considers the professional recommendations of the consortium of four higher education institutions formed within the framework of HEFOP/2004. From 2006 we have further developed our quality management activity based on the Excellence Model following EFQM Common Assessment Framework that conforms with the EU and is based on self-assessment. Even today, this is one of the directions of our development. As a result of self-assessment, we have mainly processed the strengths and weaknesses of conditions applying the PDCA model's logic in the interest of sustainable growth. Our quality management development is closely connected with the BBS Institutional Development Plan modified in 2007; it can be regarded as its integral part and its means. The long-term competitiveness of our Institution can be assured by sustainable quality management development based on excellence criteria. In addition to the present Excellence Model in our quality development strategy, we aim at introducing the quality standard MSZ EN ISO 9001/2009. In September 2010, we started it at all the three faculties of the college interested in more straightforward international comparability and more exact regulations. Our further aim is to make the MSZ EN ISO 9001/2009 standard higher education-specific by integrating higher education institutional standards into quality standards and to enhance the continuous development of the Excellence Model based on TQM. As a result of the successful implementation of its quality development goals, the Institution acquired an ISO Certification in April 2012. The BBS received the title of the University of Applied Sciences in 2016.

9. 6The Budapest Business School, Hungary's market-leading and largest university, educating some 16 000 students, was established due to the Hungarian higher education integration, and on 1 January 2000, the three legal predecessors were merged. View full university
