Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is a high-level university that aims to develop chemical talent at the cutting-edge of science and technology. The university was established in 1958 and formerly known as the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and as one of the Project 211 universities and 985 Project Innovation Platforms, BUCT has responsibilities for basic and applied scientific research original, high-tech development and the training of high-level, innovative talent.
The university is a multi-level training system for undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and students from foreign countries. Since its establishment, BUCT has trained more than 100,000 people for China.
BUCT has a total of 14 colleges with 15,249 full-time undergraduate students, 6,303 full-time graduate students (including 804 Ph.D. students), and 460 international students. The university also has 4,096 continuing education students, including those in higher vocational education, the correspondence university, and the night university.
Scientific research at BUCT has developed rapidly. This has enhanced the university's capability to undertake major projects and solve significant problems for China's economic and social development. Funding for science and technology continues to reach record highs. BUCT's per capita research funding is at the top level among Chinese universities. Since 2001, twenty-six scientific research projects of BUCT have won the National Technology Award. BUCT has three innovative research groups of the National Natural Science Foundation and six innovation teams of the Cheung Kong Scholar Program from the Ministry of Education. BUCT thus ranks at the forefront of Chinese colleges and universities. In 2016, BUCT received nearly 727 million yuan RMB in funding for research in science and technology, won 7 science and technology awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, and obtained 335 patents.
BUCT pays close attention to the employment of its students and graduates. Helping students find suitable employment is one of the four essential tasks of BUCT, and the university puts much effort into this responsibility. In 2015, undergraduates' employment rate was 98.48%, and the overall employment rate of postgraduates was 96.83%.
The 21st Century will be full of opportunities and challenges. All teachers and students of BUCT will continue to carry out our university's motto: "To be ambitious, virtuous, and profoundly learned to explore the mysteries of nature and to reform natural work for better services for human beings ". All teachers and students of BUCT will strive to be "diligent, dedicated, learned and innovative'" and try their best to build BUCT into a high-level research university with distinctive characteristics and international influence.
Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) is affiliated with the Ministry of Education. While science and engineering programs at BUCT remain particularly strong and well known throughout the country, the addition of innovative programs in the fields of management, economics, law, the arts, education, philosophy, and medicine has transformed BUCT from an institution of technological specialties into one of China's key institutions of higher learning. By exerting our distinctive strengths in carrying out the government's strategy of reviving China through science and education, BUCT strives to become a multidisciplinary research university. With our eye on the future, we are successfully responding to the new challenges of a global, interdependent, multicultural, and technologically advanced society. Our goal is to become one of the leading institutions in China and an influential university worldwide.
