Gainsborough Primary School is a two-form entry community school with a Nursery and a Children’s Centre. The children in our care range from two to eleven years old. Gainsborough School is a cooperative learning community where all achievements are celebrated and valued. Staff facilitates and engages learning through creativity, innovation, effective communication technologies, and harnessing students’ talents and interests. Our children will leave Gainsborough as responsible citizens of the world and as lifelong learners and thinkers. At Gainsborough, our code of conduct is based on the Gainsborough Goals. These are a set of statements linked to the UNICEF Children’s Rights in School. We are a Right’s Respecting School and these values underpin every aspect of our school community. Each of our Gainsborough Goals is directly linked to, and in support of, one of the UNICEF Children’s Rights. As a whole school, each half term we focus on one of the Gainsborough goals and share examples of how we can achieve this daily. Children that consistently show good examples of our Gainsborough Goals and school values are rewarded using the celebratory aspect of the school's behavior policy Stay on Green. Children are rewarded with Bronze, Silver, or Gold rewards to match the level of commitment that they have shown. We joined the Primary Advantage Federation in April 2017. This partnership helps us to share good practices and allows us to draw on the expertise of curriculum leaders and lead practitioners which acts as a form of Continuous Professional Development for our teaching staff. The Primary Advantage Federation is overseen by Sian Davies, Executive Principal. Jenna Clark, our Executive Headteacher, leads teaching and learning across our school and she is supported by a strong Senior Leadership Team. The Senior Leadership Team acts as the point of contact for parents, children, and staff. We are a group of schools working together because we believe our schools can gain many benefits from working collaboratively. We have committed to a shared responsibility to the wider school community, the provision of good quality education, and the improvement of life chances for pupils in the community beyond that of our schools. Teachers, support staff, school leaders, and governors have added expertise in working alongside colleagues to improve provision and outcomes for our pupils. Our curriculum is wide, varied, relevant, and exciting. We aim to hold the interest of all our children to develop a love of school and learning. Any attempt to raise standards in our schools must be focused on learning in the classroom and the wider environment. Continued and sustained improvement is dependent upon improving the quality of teaching and learning that is taking place daily. 2014 saw a complete overhaul on the old curriculum which many teachers had become familiar and comfortable with. The government introduced a new curriculum which will see our current year 6′s (May 2016) sitting the first SATs test which is based on the new standards set by the new curriculum. These tests will be marked by external examiners and the results will be used to measure our school’s performance. These results are reported to Ofsted and are used in the published league tables which are readily available for all to see. Online Safety or Internet Safety, is a term that is used to highlight the importance of maximizing a user’s safety and security risks to private information and property associated with using the internet, and the self-protection from computer crime in general. While the internet and communication technology can be a wonderful tool, often used to support children’s learning both in and outside of schools, there can be times when these things can also harm children. It is extremely important for schools, parents, and children to be aware of the potential dangers of these tools and to ensure that they are used safely at all times. Here at Gainsborough, we take Online Safety very seriously and are constantly looking for ways to raise awareness in a bid to keep all of our children safe online. On this page, you will find our top tips for staying safe online as well as several links to external websites which promote Online Safety by providing guidance and advice for parents and carers. The school carefully monitors the progress of each pupil children’s work is assessed formally and informally at appropriate stages throughout their academic careers and clear targets are set for improvements which are shared with the children. Teachers and support staff are continuously monitoring and evaluating children’s progress through their detailed marking and general observations. We use a document called the Fundamentals to track the progress of children in each year group. Children are encouraged to play an active part in assessing their progress and setting individual targets. We use these assessments to set appropriate work and to provide additional support if necessary. SATs is the acronym for Statutory Assessment Tests. In Key Stage 2, these tests are taken by all Year 6 pupils in May each year, although optional tests are often used across the school to give teachers a clearer view of children’s progress at different stages of the year. The Key Stage 1 SATs are taken in Year 2. These tests are not administered on a set date each year these usually take place at some point during May or June. The Year 6 SATs are mainly used by the school to check on progress. However, they are also used to assess the child’s attainment before they move onto secondary school where they are sometimes used by the schools to determine which sets they will enter in year 7. Gainsborough Primary School is a two-form, inner-city, inclusive school. We believe in our Gainsborough Family, building success together, and are very proud of the outcomes for learners at the end of all the Key Stages, where we are consistently at and above National levels. In addition to providing good mainstream education, we offer 14 resourced provision places for children diagnosed with a severe autistic spectrum disorder. We have a very skilled team of staff to support all learners. Currently, there are just over 400 pupils on roll, with 40 part-time and 8 full-time places in nursery. The school is located in a developing area of East London however Newham ranks in the top 1% of the most deprived boroughs in England. We carefully plan our budget to find the best ways to support all children and to raise attainment. Some of our initiatives include high adult-to-child ratios, smaller class sizes, focussed interventions, and specialist teachers. Many children join us mid-year, all talk about the family and nurturing feel of the school. Since 2013 we have gone from strength to strength, appearing in the top 20 of Newham schools for outcomes for learners at key points, e.g. end of EYFS, Phonic Screening, and pupil progress from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2. We are very proud and want to keep improving. We want every pupil to achieve his or her potential, whatever their starting point and we aim to create a climate of success for the whole school community. We believe that to learn well children need to feel safe and secure, and so we provide an orderly, well-disciplined environment. Lessons are carefully planned and structured by teachers so that all children will be able to reach their potential if they work hard. Homework linked to classwork is set. As a school, we know that working in partnership with other schools improves the outcomes for pupils in ours. We are part of a multi-academy trust with Kaizen Primary School.
