  1. Hawthorn has a real 'family' feel with all pupils and staff working together to achieve the very best of outcomes academically, socially, and emotionally. We genuinely fulfill our pledge to develop the 'whole child' and pride ourselves on comments from various visitors that reinforce how polite, confident, and engaged in learning our pupils are. The Secondary Schools that our Hawthorn Pupils go on to, and people from the many Educational Visits we make, also echo this positivity. At present we are working towards the Rights Respecting Schools Award in conjunction with UNICEF. This Award sits so well with our Hawthorn Ethos and Philosophy and helps us all to remember how important it is for our children to grow up as excellent and responsible 'Citizens of our Global World' with both Rights and Responsibilities. We know that we are entrusted with the most precious commodity and that we must ensure our pupils grow into confident, capable, and compassionate citizens of the future with a life-long thirst for learning, ambition, and aspiration and that they do so in a safe, supportive and happy environment. At Hawthorn, we aim to: Deliver a vibrant curriculum that builds pupil’s self-confidence and belief, a love of learning, ability, and fulfillment, then providing the skills and attitudes necessary for life within a rapidly changing society. Inspire each child to become independently motivated and eager life-long learners and thinkers. Create positive partnerships between school, parents/carers, and with the wider community. Encourage all children to develop lasting friendships and positive relationships with others. For every member of the Hawthorn Family to be immersed with rich experiences that give them the confidence, ability, and desire to make the world a better place. For our school to be a safe and harmonious community where all children and adults are inspired and challenged to take ownership of their learning and be proud of their achievements. In the city of Birmingham, community cohesion means working towards a society in which strong and where positive relationships exist and continue to be developed in schools, in the workplace, and the wider community. This is achieved through shared values which would include: the valuing of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance, and mutual respect of people’s backgrounds and circumstances promoting equal opportunities and challenging discrimination, all of which are based on Equality Act 2010 and is non-negotiable.
  2. We have agreed on a set of aims for the school which covers academic and school development. Our vision is to send out pupils from Hawthorn Primary School who are motivated, caring, confident, and skilled-equipped for the future. Our mission is to provide a happy, inclusive, safe, and stimulating learning environment where pupils, parents, and staff feel valued and develop as individuals. Our Values: Every individual matter Learning is at the heart of all that we do We take initiative in making beneficial change happen We involve the community and the world beyond in our school life In the May of 2010, the school had a very positive inspection report. The school was graded good or outstanding in all 40 judgments with no significant shortcomings in any aspect. The word outstanding was used 17 times in the summary alone. There were two recommendations in the report to move the school forward. To further develop learners' self-assessments skills. To improve provision for work-related education This year the school has continued to use some strategies to further develop learners and raise standards across the school curriculum. The child is central to our curriculum. We aim to nurture all our pupil’s positive attitudes to learning that will enable them to become independent learners. Through this they will be able to adapt to new ideas and methods, using a wide range of skills taught. We believe in making full use of the children’s interests and provide rich first-hand experiences that will act as a basis to develop their skills. In preparing for the 21st Century, today’s learner needs to be able to adapt and refine skills taught to a variety of contexts and situations. The school curriculum follows the requirements of the National Curriculum 2008. The new Literacy Numeracy framework has also been developed to be incorporated into the National Curriculum. Early Years and Years 1 & 2 implement the principles of the Foundation Phase. Through this approach, learning is based around structured play, including time being spent outdoors. This approach follows the principles of early education that have been developed so successfully in Scandinavian countries for many years. The school will report to Year 2 parents on outcomes of attainment in English, Mathematics, and Science. There are also statutory assessments for Year 2 pupils that take place in May of each year. These are in Reading, Numerical Processes, and Numerical Reasoning. The outcomes of these assessments will be sent to parents when the results have been returned to the school. Pupils in Years 3 to 6 follow a themed approach to deliver the curriculum. Many of the National Curriculum subjects are taught within a theme including RE, Literacy, and Numeracy. Literacy and Numeracy are taught as separate subjects during morning sessions and are applied as skills during the teaching of the Foundation Subjects in the afternoon sessions. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning through this approach, by choosing which skills can best be developed through the activities undertaken. The work is as practical as possible allowing pupils to develop their Key Skills, which include Communication, Number, ICT, and Thinking. There is a strong emphasis on pupils working independently, developing problem-solving skills, and also working with others. A variety of teaching styles are used to maximize the effectiveness of this approach. Therefore there will be opportunities for children to work in groups to develop their talking skills, but there will also be whole class and individual learning opportunities. View full school

  4. In November 2016 Hawley Infants School, ‘The village school in Camden’, bid a farewell to its tiny Victorian building in the heart of Camden Town and moved into a brand new building in a new, nearby, location. The move enabled the school to expand from a tiny single from entry infants’ school, into an all-through primary school. And so began a new chapter in the history of Hawley. Hawley Primary School remains a single form entry school, with one class per year group. In 2016 we opened our first junior class and we will continue to grow, year on year until 2019 when those very same children will become our first Year 6 class. Welcome to Hawley Primary School’s website. We are pleased that you are taking the time to look at our website to find out about our school. We are at a very exciting time in our history as, after over 60 years as an infant school we have returned to being an all-through primary school, albeit significantly smaller than we were in 1874. Hawley Primary School is a happy and diverse community, where we retain our ethos of working in partnership with parents to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children and their families feel welcomed, valued, and respected. We strive to ensure that our pupils benefit equally well from the breadth, depth, and variety of opportunities that are offered to all learners, who are enthusiastic and excited about their learning. Our principal aim is that by delivering a creative curriculum, which offers opportunities to develop curiosity, resilience, self-discipline, collaboration, and imagination we will enable all of our pupils to become self –motivated lifelong learners who are willing and confident enough to take on and rise to new challenges and opportunities for learning. We are ambitious for all of our pupils and with the support of our Governing Body, we work hard to set and achieve high standards. We believe that a thematic approach to learning, practical experiences, and enriching and creative opportunities enable children to learn and thrive. Hawley Primary School is at an exciting phase in its history, and we are looking forward to continuing to welcome all new pupils, families, and visitors to our happy, inclusive school as grow. 6. At our academy, we place a high priority on children as individuals in God’s world. As part of our school’s distinctive Christian ethos, we encourage each pupil to live out the academy’s values of respect, responsibility, hopefulness, friendship, truthfulness, and perseverance. We are proud of the very strong links we have with the Church of England and the Methodist Church – both of whom regularly lead collective worship. We are proud of our academy values. The children and staff were involved in their selection. We encourage all members of our academy community to use them. Each term we have a particular focus on one of our values, exploring it through assemblies and house groups. In 2011, the government defined British Values as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. Here at Hawkesley Church Primary Academy, we promote these values through the curriculum and enrichment activities as well as through our academy values We are respectful, responsible, hopeful, friendly, truthful and we persevere. The academy’s values and its emphasis on good relationships, respect for the law, and equality of opportunity foster pupils’ understanding of British values and successfully prepare them for life in modern Britain. Motivated by our Christian faith, we welcome and nurture everyone to believe, achieve and succeed. We celebrate the diversity of everyone at our academy, recognizing and valuing the contribution made by all individuals. Through a safe, creative, and stimulating environment, and the constant pursuit of high standards, children and staff flourish on the journey towards reaching their full potential. At Hawkesley Church Primary Academy we follow the National Curriculum but place greater emphasis and time on the core areas of English and Mathematics. We teach Science, Computing, Physical Education, and Religious Education as discrete subjects. Each term our curriculum theme is linked to one of our school values. View full school

Schools are required to publish online details of their premium spend for parents and carers. We aim to improve the school even more and make it a better and more enjoyable environment. The School Council's achievements have grown each year. At the meetings, held by the Chair and Vice-Chair, pupils decide what can be done to improve the school. We don't just decide ourselves what to do our classmates put their ideas down too through questionnaires and surveys. View full school

  12. Hawarden High School traces its history back to 1606 when a single-classroom grammar school was established with £300 left by a resident named George Ledsham. Some 400 years later we still very much hold traditional values at the heart of what we do. We are committed to ensuring that each pupil benefits from the very highest standards in learning and teaching to support them in the development of their essential skills and talents to the full. We are very proud of the fact that many of our students gain entry to their first choice university, others choose to enroll on courses at local further education colleges whilst some embark upon work-based training opportunities with prestigious local employers. We are very proud of our school, which is successful and oversubscribed. Outcomes for our pupils, in terms of A-Level, GCSE, and End of Key Stage 3 results, have this year once again been excellent, enabling us to exceed both the local and national averages, with this year’s GCSE results representing the best in the history of the school. The school is well resourced, with over 500 computers. Digital projectors are fitted to all teaching rooms and there has been much investment in interactive whiteboard technology in recent years. Having gradually extended our wireless network, further works have been undertaken to provide 100Mb links throughout the school. Our Technical and Vocational Faculty is equipped with industry-standard hardware, including laser cutters, a 3D printer, and an optical router. Hawarden high school is a community, co-educational, comprehensive day school for pupils aged 11-18 years. Currently, there are 1132 pupils on roll, including 160 in the sixth form. Whilst teaching is undertaken through the medium of English, we exploit opportunities to develop pupils' bilingual competence through the use of the incidental welsh and bilingual display. 16. Welcome to Havelock Primary School, Success. Nothing less. We believe that children learn best if they feel valued and part of a supportive community. Then they can be challenged to take risks in their learning and make rapid progress. By offering exciting and challenging opportunities we ensure that every child reaches their full potential towards a bright and successful future. Havelock is a well-established school, serving a diverse community in Southall, in the London Borough of Ealing. We work hard as a team to deliver the best possible education and outcomes for the children. As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we champion the rights of children to ensure that pupil's voice underpins life at our school. The school motto is Exceed to Succeed, which captures the high expectations of all stakeholders. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum where children are encouraged to be inquisitive, creative thinkers. By creating an exciting and challenging learning environment we ensure that every child reaches their full potential on their journey to a bright and successful future. At Havelock, we believe that children learn best if they feel valued, secure and part of a supportive community, so we have invested in systems that support this approach. Our vision is to enable pupils to thrive to be the best they can be within a calm and purposeful environment so that they make a successful transition to high school and leave as confident, thoughtful, and articulate learners. As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, our values link to the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. Every time we talk about values we encourage the children to link them to Children’s Rights. Each class has a Class Charter that highlights the UNICEF Articles that they feel are important to be a successful member of their class. The Charter also outlines the responsibilities of adults (known as ‘duty bearers’ ) to support children’s rights. As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we are passionate about children’s rights. Every child at Havelock has a vital role in upholding these rights and we encourage all our children to lead in this respect. Mrs. Rees and her staff have an open-door policy where we encourage pupils to tell us how they think we could improve things at the school. Each class also has a ‘worry box’ where they can write any concerns that they might have. At Havelock, we promote fundamental British Values through our ethos, the curriculum offer, spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, and through our work as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. We will actively challenge anyone in the school community to express opinions contrary to fundamental British Values. We reinforce and promote British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. View full school

  18. At Haley Hey our vision is that we will lay the foundations for a lifelong journey that provides our children with the tools to achieve happy, fulfilling, and successful lives. Haley Hey Community Primary School is a two-form entry school. We have a nursery, two reception classes, and two classes in each year group. In our classrooms, the children have the opportunity to voice their opinions, ask questions and develop confidence and learning skills respectfully and politely. We encourage the children to work as a team and develop mutual respect and trust for each other. Since the introduction of the new National Curriculum (2014), we have worked hard to refresh our school approach and provision for pupils. We work in a cross-curricular way and build on key skills each year to meet the high expectations of this challenging new curriculum. As part of this work, we have decided to implement the Cornerstones Curriculum: a nationally-recognized approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. As a Trust and admission authority for our schools, we have adopted the Manchester City Council arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places. We rely on the LA consultation process to inform and consult with our parents. All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regardless of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcome of their application. The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 Primary National Curriculum, ensuring comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our curriculum is delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We aim to provide children with exciting trips, visits, visitors, and hands-on learning experiences to bring their learning to life, developing their curiosity and encouraging them to be life-long learners. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to independently and collaboratively solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum. This year in EYFS, we have planned our curriculum around high-quality key texts that the children will become immersed in. We will use Talk 4 Writing to learn the texts and will have lots of opportunities to interact with the text in our play-based learning. Our School policies have been designed to ensure that all adults working at Haveley Hey Community Primary School are working together to promote the well-being of our young people at school. Our policy describes the systems in place to create and promote a safe learning environment. As part of our support for children in school, we have regular opportunities to work with support services and health agencies through a multi-agency approach, and sometimes this could be working with parents to complete an Early Help Assessment. At Haley Hey, we take pride in our relationships with parents. We want to share your children's learning with you and get you involved in school life. We have several different groups including the Parent Focus Group and PTA and are always looking for new, enthusiastic members to join. We successfully achieved the Leading Parent Partnership Award in recognition of our commitment to working with Parents as Partners. in their child's learning journey. Haley Hey’s transition process begins early in Year 5. This provides our students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Manchester Enterprise Academy and take their first steps in building strong relationships with their fantastic teachers and support staff. Students also take part in the Flying Start event in Year 6 with MEA’s sponsors, Manchester Airport, and many children become regular visitors to MEA when they participate in sports tournaments, whilst working alongside the Manchester United Foundation. MEA also offers a free two-week summer school to support and nature their new Year 7’s and provides extra support in the final move from Year 6 to Year 7. MEA’s transition processes ensure that our Year 6 students start the Academy feeling cared for and ready to excel. From the minute they arrive for their first induction day the students are supported by a dedicated Year 7 team who work closely with parents and carers to make sure they feel involved and informed about their child’s education. To guarantee every child has a flying start they also provide a free uniform to all Year 7 students and have a ‘settling in the evening’ for Year 7 students and their parents and carers in the first half term, so their first steps towards a fantastic future are in place and parents are fully involved and feel part of the transition process. In 2018 we were successful in our accreditation to become a Gold Level Rights Respecting School. The assessors were impressed with our whole school community's commitment to promoting and protecting children's rights. We are one of only a few hundred schools in the country to have this accreditation - along with our partner schools, The Willows and St Marys. As a forward-thinking school, we will continue to make changes to improve the education that we offer our children - but the golden thread that will always run through this will be our continued commitment to children's rights. 20. Hatfield is a community school that places the children at the heart of all that we do. We set high expectations of our children both academically and socially and we truly believe that we have a positive influence on our pupils’ aspirations both now and in the future. Our talented and experienced staff team delivers a broad and balanced curriculum in a fun and imaginative way. We aim to develop enquiring minds, a love of learning, and an understanding of the diverse culture we live in. We offer many additional activities including clubs, day trips, and residential experiences. We create strong partnerships with the parents of our pupils and fully recognize the importance they play in contributing to our school community. Everyone is proud to be part of Hatfield. At Hatfield, your child’s progress, confidence, and character will be nurtured in a happy and caring atmosphere and their successes and achievements will be celebrated. Picture a school where everyone feels safe, secure, and included. A place where people are happy to come and take pride in their sense of belonging. A school where children’s voices are heard over the busyness of life and whose care and education lie at the heart of everything that happens. Here is a school that believes that no one ever stops learning and where adults and children discover the excitement, challenge, enjoyment, and fun of learning together. A school where all types of achievement are celebrated and everyone has the confidence to share ideas and treat each other with a sense of equity and dignity. This is a school where diversity of experiences, cultures, and individuals qualities are enjoyed and valued. Here is a school where there is time enough for teaching and learning, sufficient resources to enable success, and an environment in which people can feel okay about saying ‘Well done, ‘I need help’ and ‘Thank you. It is a place where everyone listens and is listened to. Here is a school where both adults and young people feel bold enough to accept challenges and were attempting something is celebrated as much as achieving it. And think of a school where all learners experience success and feel good about themselves. A school that builds on its previous success and has high expectations of everyone. Our children follow a nationally agreed curriculum throughout their time in school. In the nursery and reception classes, children follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum. Throughout the rest of the school, they follow the National Curriculum. Objectives and programs of study outlined by the Department for Education and Skills are enhanced and developed by highly trained and innovative teachers. All children in the school are assessed regularly, starting with an on-entry assessment within six weeks of them starting school. Methods of assessment vary according to age and are carefully chosen to ensure each child can show us their best. We use observations by members of staff, tests we buy from nationally recognized companies, and tests set by the government (SATs). Parents are informed of their child’s results and progress through frequent parent/teacher meetings and an end-of-year report. This close monitoring enables us to track, support, challenge, and extend the learning of children as needed. We have a highly organized, caring, and effective approach to managing the learning of children with special educational needs. Through our assessment procedures and a close working relationship with other professionals, we can identify the needs of individual children and provide the support and differentiation they need as quickly as possible. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) may be drawn up and agreed upon with the parents and the child. A teaching assistant or specialist teacher may work with the child if it is deemed necessary and progress is closely monitored. We are committed to the early identification of special needs and provide a range of intervention programs to support learning. We aim to remove barriers to learning and raise expectations and achievements by working in partnership with parents. At Hatfield School, the Pupil Premium Grant funding allows us to invest in our aspiration and inclusion of all children across the school. Our aim and guiding principle are to develop the whole child. We believe that no one ever stops learning. We aim to ensure that all children have the confidence to share ideas and treat each other with a sense of equity and dignity. We celebrate the diversity of experiences cultures and that an individual’s qualities are enjoyed and valued. The Pupil Premium Grant is paid to schools for students who are recorded as being eligible for Free School Meals in the last 6 years, Looked After or Adopted, or have a parent serving in the armed forces. Hatfield Primary School, with the support of our school governance, allocates the use of this money for these children, tailoring it to meet their needs. We recognize these needs as academic, development of positive mental health, enrichment support, and the importance of good punctuality and attendance. View full school

All four areas of our improvement planning are underpinned by our four core values in We CARE concerning our fundamental appreciation of the importance of Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural education and preparing our students to be active citizens in a local, national and global environment. We recognize that everyone needs to be personally challenged throughout their school life and we place great emphasis on tracking individual student progress with half-termly assessments. In addition to the parents’ evenings, we also offer academic monitoring interviews with students and parents to talk through continued strategies for improvement. For the gifted and/or talented child, a program of extension and enrichment opportunities takes place to challenge and stretch in new and imaginative ways. In the classroom, all lessons are differentiated to enable high performers to achieve their very best. Our Raising Aspirations program complements and energizes our ‘Ambition’ value by providing high-quality enrichment activities for all students. 24. Our school was founded by Rabbi Dr. Solomon Schonfeld, as part of the Jewish Secondary School Movement. The Movement was set up on the third night of Chanukah in 1944 – hence the name HASMONEAN and the origin of the school badge depicting the menorah. The Hasmonean Primary School opened its doors to pupils in 1947. At Hasmonean Primary our whole school community is actively encouraged to engage with modern British life and embrace British Values. We provide an environment where our children learn the skills to be thoughtful, tolerant, and caring citizens. We prepare children to take on active roles and responsibilities in wider British society in later life. This is achieved through both the secular and Jewish Studies curriculum and the School’s ethos, “Torah im Derech Eretz”. Also, British Values complement the Jewish values that are incorporated in all aspects of school life, during assemblies and through school events. Democracy is promoted through teaching an understanding of what a democracy is, how it works, and by discussions and modeling voting. Children enjoyed holding their own ‘national elections and referendum to decide the future of Britain in the EU. Pupils prepared speeches, canvassed on many issues, cast votes, and we're excited to announce results. We take our Y6 to the Houses of Parliament each year. Children are encouraged to know that their views count and are valued by having the opportunity to vote and become members of our school council. Charity is an important feature in our school day and children are encouraged to be charitable. For example, we have supported many national charities e.g. the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Make a Wish. Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs is promoted in both secular and Jewish studies lessons. We encourage children to learn about other families, cultures, traditions, and communities. We hold termly multicultural weeks to promote solidarity with immigrant groups in the UK – these have included Chinese, Indian, French and Polish weeks. We also held a UK week to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. We have formed a link with St Joseph’s Catholic School, Southwark with exchanges of letters between our Y5 pupils and reciprocal visits. Every week, teachers select a child to wear the ‘golden sash’ in each class. These are celebrated in a weekly assembly and children take home a certificate. We promote the ancient Jewish teaching that, “the Law of the land is the law” and that, “All righteous people have their share in the World to Come”. This teaches our pupils that we must respect everyone whatever their lifestyle and cultural traditions. At Hasmonean Primary School we promote the Rule of Law by demonstrating a need to help to keep our school community safe and happy. We encourage children to work together to create class rules and teach children to understand how their own and others’ behavior has consequences. Our school council discusses how class and school rules should be administered fairly. During Jewish Studies and PSHE lessons, children are supported in understanding how to distinguish between right and wrong. Children volunteer to be part of a ‘Safety Squad’ alongside the headteacher. Within school, children are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. Our pupils are taught to know and understand their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise this safety during e-safety and PSHE lessons. View full school
