The children, staff, and governors are extremely proud of our school. Our distinctive features include a strong inclusive ethos where children are kept at the heart of all we do. Our ‘Thinking School’ status and child-centered approach to teaching and learning encourage and support children to become enthusiastic, positive, and resilient learners. We have a clear focus on raising standards in all aspects of the curriculum by inspiring children in their learning whilst also ensuring children develop the personal and social skills they need to be successful in life. We have an excellent team of outstanding, experienced staff who are fully committed to working in partnership with families and the local community to ensure that every child in the school is happy, secure, and achieves success in both their learning and personal achievements. We believe the full partnership with all members of our community is the best way to ensure success for our children and therefore encourage others to engage in school life. For parents, there is a range of opportunities for you to get involved in including parent workshops, membership of the PTA, attending performances, volunteering in school, and accompanying classes on school trips. We have already developed close links with many members of the local community but always welcome more. Under most circumstances, applications can only be processed once a child is living locally and places will only be allocated to children who can start immediately. If you are planning a move, even if you have a new tenancy agreement or have exchanged contracts, we cannot accept the application until after the move has taken place and your child has moved in. Children whose parents are in Armed Forces or who are Crown Servants are an exception to this and should provide evidence when making the application. Introduced in 2011, the pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. This is based on research showing that children from low-income families perform less well at school than their peers. Often, children who are entitled to pupil premium face challenges such as poor language and communication skills, less family support, lack of confidence, and issues with attendance and punctuality. There is no obligation for schools to consult with parents about how they use the money they claim for each child. However, schools do have to show that they are using their pupil premium fund appropriately. This is measured through Ofsted inspections and annual performance tables showing the progress made by children who are eligible for pupil premium. The PE and sport premium is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sports activities they offer their pupils. Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6 and must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. Hillcross is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, volunteers, and visitors to share this commitment. This means that we have a Child Protection Policy and supporting procedures in place. All staff (including supply staff, volunteers, and governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures. Parents and carers are welcome to read the policy on request. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents or carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. Our children are supported and challenged to become caring, collaborative, critical, and creative learners who can adapt to meet their future life goals with confidence and success. We know that children learn more effectively if they feel valued, happy and secure. We aim to ensure that our children are respected as individuals and feel good about themselves so that they can achieve their very best within a safe, caring, and supportive environment. In line with our mission statement, ‘Educating Our Children Together’, we have an excellent team of outstanding, experienced staff who are fully committed to working in partnership with families and the local community to ensure that every child in the school benefits from an environment where all children achieve success in both their learning and personal achievements.
