  5. Pearl Primary School was officially opened in 1976. We are part of the Flintshire Local Education Authority and the building is situated on the edge of a residential area in the small town of Ewloe. Our aims of the school are detailed in our vision and mission statement: Learning, sharing, and growing together. We are a primary school situated just outside the village of Ewloe and we have approximately two hundred and twenty pupils from Nursery to Year 6. We have one class per year group. Our staff are experienced and dedicated to the school and work hard to ensure pupils enjoy learning and do their best. We pride ourselves in having a close, happy, caring, and welcoming school community where all pupils know each other and know all the staff, and where the staff knows all the parents of pupils. We take an interest in all our pupils and am available to meet with parents if they have any concerns. Parents are very welcome in our school. We understand the importance of working in partnership with parents to progress their child's learning. We hold a range of events and open days for parents throughout the school year. We also welcome parent volunteers in school. The ‘hidden curriculum’ or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave. We aim to teach children to grow into positive, responsible people who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills so that they can achieve their potential. Our school curriculum is underpinned by our school vision and mission statement. The curriculum is enhanced by day and residential trips. All pupils attend day trips and each Junior class participates in a residential trip, ranging from one night for Year 3 children to four nights for Year 6 children. No charge will be made for education provided during set school hours, however, when necessary parents will be asked to make a voluntary contribution towards the cost of the activity – if sufficient funds are not forthcoming then the activity may be canceled. 13. A great deal of time and effort is spent by everyone in making this a really special place to work, learn and play. We believe that Pembroke offers all of its children an excellent education that is full of challenge, interest, and fun. Children are encouraged to build their self-esteem and confidence, to develop self-reliance, to take risks without fear of failure, and to make decisions about their learning. In essence: Be Kind, Be Happy, Be Safe, Be Brilliant - Be the best we can be! We also believe that we can only achieve the best for your child by developing a close relationship between home and school. There will be many opportunities for you to find out about and to share in the education of your child. We and the team are always readily available to talk to you about any aspect of your child’s learning and development. We hope that you find our website useful but, unfortunately, it can only give you a glimpse of our work. However, we are always happy to meet and speak with parents personally. Our Aims and Policy for Learning. The school aims to create an environment based on tolerance, care, and thought for others. We will encourage meaningful links with other schools and the community to foster the concept of citizenship and participation. The school endeavors to create an atmosphere conducive to happy and effective learning and through this offer a curriculum incorporating the National Curriculum: That is matched to the individual needs of children That encourages children to learn through direct experience and active participation That encourages confidence and self-respect, self-discipline, tolerance, and compassion That encourages children to acquire relevant skills and knowledge That encourages children to be adaptable to personal, social, and technological changes That encourages respect for religious and moral values That encourages children to develop lively and enquiring minds. The ethos of the school is such that the moral, spiritual, social, and cultural development of pupils are covered by: General school expectations on care for others by fundraising for those in need, visits from outside agencies, and by constant reinforcement in the class and school situation on consideration, manners, and care towards others The school, with the help of Pembroke’s Parent, Teacher Association, attempts to provide a stimulating diet of cultural opportunities for children through theatre visits and speakers. The year’s topics often incorporate features to enhance the children’s social and cultural development. The spiritual development of children is covered by Monmouthshire’s agreed syllabus and care is taken to ensure that the Christian perception of life is encouraged but that religious tolerance is addressed by other faiths being researched and discussed. 17. Pelham is a very successful school, where children are at the heart of all we do. At Pelham, we aim to create a secure, caring and stimulating learning environment in which everyone can develop his or her aptitudes and abilities to the full. To this end, we share a commitment to achieving the highest possible academic standards alongside the development of children as confident, caring, and responsible citizens. We aim to create classroom cultures and classroom environments that cultivate the habits and attitudes of curious, confident, and independent learners. We value the process of learning and not just the product. This encourages children to see the value in the learning journey that they have taken in a lesson and recognize the progress that they have made. A growth mindset is when someone believes that they can get better at something if they keep on trying and learn from their mistakes. There is no such thing as fixed intelligence – this can grow through hard work, concentration, and a positive attitude to learning. A fixed mindset is when someone either believes that they can’t do something and isn’t willing to try or when someone feels they are already good enough at something and they aren’t motivated to improve. At Pelham Primary School we encourage children to develop a growth mindset towards their learning. By unlocking learning behaviors and talking the language of learning we aim to help our children develop their learning characteristics. Through our timetabled PSHE and computing curriculum, we tackle these important issues with children in lessons. Each year group covers an age-appropriate e-safety unit of work at the beginning of each academic year and children are reminded of these principles throughout the year through events such as ‘Safer Internet Day’ and ‘Anti-bullying Week’. These issues are all covered in the sites recommended below and we strongly advise you to take some time to read and understand the areas. If you have any questions then you are welcome to contact the school for advice. We do provide an annual e-safety training workshop for parents, run in the spring term. Our school internet is filtered and children are appropriately supervised during internet use. Children are taught how to search safely, effectively, respectfully & responsibly. This involves thinking about appropriate keywords to use and only visiting recognized sites. They are taught what action to take if they do see something upsetting. At home, this may be turning off the screen and telling an adult immediately. We also include age-appropriate lessons on copyright and plagiarism. Pelham offers "wrap around" care for pupils through our Breakfast and After School clubs. These facilities help support our working parents and provide a friendly, relaxed environment for the children to play and meet friends before and after school. Pelham's Board of Governors meets termly to discuss progress across the spectrum of school activities. Also, every governor serves on at least one of the three committees: School Business, Curriculum, and Personnel. These committees also meet termly and provide reports to Board meetings. Governors regularly visit the school to participate in lessons, school council meetings, and PTA events. Academic 'achievement' is measured by a combination of 'attainment' (the national curriculum standard that a child has reached) and 'progress' (the measure of improvement a child has made, relative to his/her starting point, compared to children nationally, with a similar starting point). The Pupil Premium is a government initiative designed to address underlying inequalities between children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and those who are not. Schools are allocated additional funding based on the number of children receiving FSM. This also includes those children who have previously been eligible for free school meals at any point in the previous 6 years. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit. However, they are accountable for how they use the funding to support pupils from low-income families and other target groups. We will allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any eligible pupils the school has identified as needing additional support to achieve improved outcomes in learning and/or well-being. At Pelham, the safety of the children in our care is paramount. We recognize our duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and to carry out this duty through our teaching and learning, pastoral care, and extended school activities. All members of the school community work together to establish and maintain a safe and stimulating environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to talk to adults they can trust, and are listened to. 18. 19. Many of our children start their educational journey with us when they enter our Nursery, whilst some join us later. No matter when your child joins our school, you can be sure of a warm welcome. Making sure you and your child/children feel happy and secure with school makes for a positive relationship where your child/children will thrive. Peel Hall is about “Working Together for Success”. We are a welcoming, inclusive, inspiring, and caring community that respects and values everyone. Within our school, it is our shared vision that all staff, children, and their families engage fully in purposeful, fun, educational activities in an inclusive environment that is happy, safe, and secure. We expect the staff of our school to be passionate about their teaching and our children to be passionate about their learning to develop strong character traits of self-confidence, self-motivation, and resilience. We want our staff, families, and children to be able to embrace change and challenge to make a positive contribution to the school, local, national, and global society in which we live. We aim to empower lifelong learning through honesty and openness about our strengths and various developmental needs. Children are admitted to the Nursery from a waiting list. The minimum age of entry is 3 years old and children usually attend on a full-time basis after an initial staggered intake, the length of which is based upon the child. Children are admitted to the Reception class in the September of the year they are five. Admissions to the Reception class are controlled by Manchester Local Authority, who will send admission forms out to parents in the Autumn term before they are due to start. Parents/carers wishing to view the school are very welcome. If you require a place for your child outside of the Reception class, in years 1-6, the same admission procedures have to be followed as for the children entering Reception. Parents can contact the school to see if we have any vacancies in their preferred year groups, but they will also need to contact Manchester Local Authority Admissions so that their child can be placed on a waiting list, and a place to be allocated to the school when possible. The vision for our curriculum is to provide an enabling curriculum for all students which fosters a positive attitude and develops pupil motivation towards independent learning to help pupils see that learning is a lifelong process. The School motto is the premise from which we start. At Peel Hall Primary School we believe that there is nothing more important than strong positive working relationships within our community. Positive relationships allow everyone to achieve their maximum potential and growth. We believe that School should be a happy, safe and secure place where everybody’s needs are met. Our behavior policy reflects the overall positive approach we have in our School towards all aspects of the child’s learning and development. However, the school has a statutory duty to discipline pupils. Thoughtful discipline has an educational focus. It is preventative and educative as well as corrective. However, some children due to their additional needs or children who abuse our behavior management system will need a more individualized approach to be taken. Parents will have the opportunity to discuss individualized strategies to be in a position to show their willingness to support the school. At Peel Hall Primary school we are an inclusive school that meets the needs of a wide range of children. These needs range from children with social and emotional difficulties, children with behavioral difficulties, children with medical conditions, and children with cognitive and processing difficulties. We are not a special school, but we pride our self on the fact that we try our very best to meet the needs of all our children so that they can be the best they can be. The provision provided in school begins with universal support in the classroom, which involves quality first teaching. The next level of support is through the use of targeted support and interventions within the class to ensure all children are being moved towards meeting national expectations in terms of milestones. A further level of support children receive if the school feels, in consultation with parents, that a child’s difficulties are acting as a barrier to learning, is the involvement of external agencies, such as Educational Psychology, Play Therapy, communication and language groups, and Speech and Language therapists, etc. Where multi agencies become involved parents are invited to participate in an MCAF (Manchester Common Assessment Form). This is so efficient use can be made of time and money to ensure children receive their entitlement. View full school

  21. The Parsons Green community acts as a guiding light to lead the children towards becoming successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors. We want to see all children leave our safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment with the necessary skills to become happy, healthy, and successful members of society. At Parsons Green, we have a caring ethos. We are welcoming to our whole school community believing we are stronger when we work towards a common vision. We value our diverse school population and celebrate the range of achievements that we gain. Parsons Green School Vision is to create a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment where all learners can develop life-long skills, fulfill their potential and participate in a caring global community. Our School Aims To be a warm, friendly, and welcoming community of learners, learning together to promote: Respect for self, others, and the environment. Equality, fairness, and inclusion. Skills for learning, life, and work. An ethos of achievement. A healthy lifestyle. A global outlook. Each class learned a little about the country, the language, culture, and climate. We are looking forward to hearing a lot more. This link is part of the Twende Pamoja project which has been running for the past ten years between Scotland and Tanzania. Our cluster schools are all linked to a school in the same area. For 2016-17 we are starting the year with a Peace project which is being run in conjunction with our partner schools in Tanzania. Parsons Green has begun the journey towards becoming a Unicef Rights Respecting School. This involves learning about the UNCRC (United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child) and what that means for ourselves and each other. We have been using our Vertical Grouping Project to explore Article 31 – the right to play. It has involved mixing classes from P1 – P7 in our four houses and thinking about what the right to play looks like for us in our school. We have been learning lots of different types of games and getting to know others around the school better. This is helping us to have an even friendlier school built on positive relationships with each other. We have been working towards our Green Flag Award with the children across the school engaging in a variety of different activities. This ranges from developing biodiversity within the Wildlife Garden to recycling our paper waste and reducing food waste, to litter picking and thinking about how we can all do our bit for the planet. Our curriculum is inclusive, is a stimulus for personal achievement, and through the broadening of experience of the world, is an encouragement towards informed and responsible citizenship. We are committed to supporting the development of the whole pupil and as a result, wish to encourage their development in spiritual, moral, social, and cultural terms to fulfill the aim of the curriculum for Excellence of helping our young people to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors, Responsible Citizens. Children are encouraged to develop this capacity through keeping their resources, their classroom, and their cloakroom areas tidy and clear. They are expected to show respect to one another in the way that they behave using the agreements of their class and playground charters which encourage them to build positive healthy relationships with one another. At Parsons Green, we encourage the children to think of others and think about looking after the world around them. At Parsons Green, we celebrate and value pupils’ achievements both within and out with school. All areas such as academic, social, emotional, sporting, and creative learning are recognized and highly valued. We strive to ensure that every learner experiences success and is recognized for their achievements, whether it be through house points, stickers, certificates, the children know that success comes with hard work and effort. 23. At Parsloes Primary School we aim to deliver a curriculum that is broad, balanced, and based on developing all pupils’ knowledge, skills, and understanding across a range of subjects. We are determined that all children succeed and reach high standards and believe in a rich curriculum that is engaging for all. Reading, Writing, and Maths are at the heart of our curriculum and take up the larger part of teaching time. RE and PSHE are taught using the Local Authority schemes of work. Modern Languages are taught in KS2. All other subjects History, Geography, Music, Art, Design Technology, Science, and PE are taught through an integrated topic approach using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). We are extremely proud of the polite, thoughtful, and enthusiastic children that come to Parsloes Primary School and we always aim to provide very clear expectations of good behavior and respect for all which help to underpin effective learning. We believe that the environment and education that Parsloes Primary School provides for its pupils will help to ensure that they achieve their best at school and beyond. The children learn many skills while in Nursery. We aim to develop early literacy and mathematical skills as well as developing children’s self–confidence and self-awareness whilst encouraging them to build good relationships with their peers and other adults in the setting. The key aspects of effective learning include being willing to have a go, being involved and concentrating, having their ideas, and enjoying their achievements. Reception is an important year for developing basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills which the children will build on throughout the school. We use a variety of teacher-led and child-initiated activities. Children have the opportunity to develop their love of learning through exploration and creative learning. We use the indoor and outdoor environments to stimulate this thirst for learning. In Reception, we follow the Early Years Framework. We base all of our classroom activities around the children’s individual needs linking to the 7 areas of learning. The Year 1 curriculum will build upon and extend the EYFS curriculum. The children are in a more formal learning environment but they will continue to learn through exploration, experience, challenge, and investigation. Our topics this year will include I’m Alive learning about animals and habitats, The Magic Toymaker learning about how things work, The Circus is Coming to Town learning about different materials, and what it is like to be a circus artist. Year 2 is an extremely important year for all pupils. We continue to build upon the basic key skills taught in Year 1 and focus on deepening children’s understanding of the key concepts in Reading, Writing, and Maths. In Year 4 we will study a wide and varied curriculum following our cross-curricular linked units. The IPC units in year 4 include Chocolate, Fashion, Active Planet, Temples, Tombs, and Treasures, Do you Live around Here? and Bright Sparks. Each topic involves many opportunities for the children to engage in practical activities to enhance their learning experiences. During year 5 we undertake several exciting IPC units which cover a broad range of topics such as the solar system, renewable energy, living and growing as well as the art and history of different cultures around the world. We will also be exploring where our feelings and emotions come from and how they may affect us. To support learning, we organize events and educational visits for the pupils, such as visiting a Tudor House and partaking in a video conference with The National Space Centre. This year is an important one for the children in Year 6. Not only is it the transitional year from Primary to Secondary school, which will include SATs tests (Statutory Assessment Tests) but, it is also their last year here with us at Parsloes Primary School. During Year 6, we have a strong focus on the core learning areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Alongside this, the children will create many more memorable moments of their time spent in this school. The Governing Board meets 6 times a year and is made up of 13 people who all wish to ensure the school provides the best possible education for all of its pupils. Training is undergone to help them carry out this role. Standards & achievements Committee (C&S) is responsible for monitoring the curriculum. View full school

  25. Parrs Wood High School is a popular oversubscribed mixed 11-18 community school with a thriving Sixth Form that has a proven record of academic excellence. The original school opened in 1967 as an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive situated in the South Manchester suburb of Didsbury. It now occupies an enviable site at the heart of the community, having been completely rebuilt in 2000. The main school accommodates 1500 pupils in years 7 to 11, whilst our 400 Sixth Form students are mainly based in Parrs Wood House, our 18th Century Georgian Villa. Parrs Wood is truly comprehensive. It is a multi-cultural, multi-faith school with a broad range of ability levels. It has an excellent local, national and international reputation. The school is at the heart of the local community and its facilities are used by a wide range of community groups including being a base for the Bobby Charlton International Summer School program. Parrs Wood is proud of its place in the community. We believe that our strong links with local primary schools, further and higher education providers, and local businesses are of significant benefit to our students. We have a large, flourishing Sixth Form housed in the unique atmosphere of a beautiful Georgian Villa Parrs Wood House. The new facilities provide spacious teaching rooms and study facilities with the advantages of a college setting within a supportive and structured environment. A separate prospectus is available for the Sixth Form Centre. As an 11-18 school, it is our expectation and hopes that the vast majority of our pupils will remain with us into the sixth form to achieve the level 3 qualifications they desire to enter Higher Education, an apprenticeship, or the workplace. Ofsted judged Parrs Wood Sixth Form to be good and particularly praised the `strong community spirit engendered’, `effective leadership’ and `strong care, guidance, and support. Protecting children from maltreatment and preventing impairment of children’s health or development is necessary, but not sufficient to ensure that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care. The Parrs Wood curriculum is designed to offer each student the opportunity to fulfill their potential through a wide range of on-site non-vocational and vocational qualifications. Students move through the Key Stage 3 (years 7-9) National Curriculum at the rate most suited to their ability and we work closely with our partner primary schools to ensure a smooth and successful transition to high school and the new curriculum. The vast majority of our students embark on GCSE programs during year 9 and all have the chance to complete at least one GCSE and a BTEC National Certificate (equivalent to 2 GCSEs at grades A*-C) by the end of the year. For Years 10 and 11, our students can opt to study a full range of GCSEs or combine their core GCSEs with other qualifications in more applied or vocational subjects. Our curriculum at this key stage is aimed at securing the best possible opportunities for students post-16 and we offer a comprehensive package of Career guidance and support to underpin this. The range of GCSEs on offer at Key Stage 4 builds into our sixth form curriculum and we encourage as many of our students as possible to remain with us into the sixth form to continue their education. A separate prospectus for the sixth form is available from the Sixth Form Centre. Due to our tradition for offering a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures rigor, national recognition and acceptance, and learning pathway continuity, we are best placed for the vast majority of our students to gain the English Baccalaureate qualification. Also, we offer an Apprenticeship Pathway to meet the needs and aspirations of some of our students. Child protection is part of the safeguarding process. It focuses on protecting individual children identified as suffering or likely to suffer significant harm. This includes child protection procedures which detail how to respond to concerns about a child. Safeguarding children and child protection guidance and legislation apply to all children up to the age of 18. At Parrs Wood High School and Sixth Form, we recruit experienced members of staff to enhance our safeguarding and child protection at all times. Keeping our students safe is our main priority, which is why we work closely with parents and our safeguarding and child protection team to ensure our students remain on the right path towards achieving their full potential in education. For the parent or carers of children at Parrs Wood, we always aim to provide as much information as possible. We endeavor to work closely with parents to ensure their children are heading towards their goals and ambitions. At Parrs Wood High and Sixth Form, we aim to provide as much support as possible to help our students have an enjoyable experience with us. We always encourage parents to work closely with our staff to help build a positive future for all students. At Parrs Wood, we are always welcome to feedback and strive for parents in helping us understand what we could do better to help their children. We have designed this section of the website to allow parents or carers to understand more about us as an institute, and what we are all about. If you would require any further information or resources, please contact our school office and we will be delighted to help you in every way possible. View full school
