- Welcome to The Cavendish, a small, inclusive independent school for girls aged rising 3-11 and sibling boys aged rising 3-7. Non-selective at entry, we pride ourselves on our high level of pastoral care which we combine with high-quality teaching and a broad, balanced curriculum enriched with arts, languages, and sport to ensure that the needs of each child are met. Pupils go on to a range of excellent senior schools, often with scholarships. Originally a Catholic foundation, we now welcome pupils of all faiths and none. This is an exciting time to be at The Cavendish. The hard work of our staff was recently recognized in our 2016 Independent Schools Inspection when we were judged to be ‘excellent, the highest grade achievable, in every category. We’ve just expanded into a new building, which has provided five more classrooms and a 200-seater multi-use auditorium. We encourage parents wherever possible to travel to and from school in an environmentally sustainable way. We operate a supervised “stop and drop” service and many parents share car rides. We have a scooter park and are well placed for public transport. We wish to inform parents that Camden Council, after a six-month review of its cross-party strategy on the School Run, has agreed to continue with the policy of reducing dispensation permits for car parking in residential areas in the Borough. Camden will enforce this parking policy. Pay and Display bays may be available in the school vicinity, but there are very few of them. You may therefore be interested to enquire about your school travel plan, which gives advice and support on traveling to school in a more environmentally sustainable way. There are three phases to The Cavendish School which each have its characteristics and pupils move seamlessly from one section to the next. the right balance of challenge and support for each pupil throughout the school advice and assistance over time for transfer to senior school Intelligence is not fixed. We shape our brains with every new experience we encounter, every challenge we overcome, and every risk we take. And given this happens most powerfully during childhood, the message for parents and teachers is this: the difference you can make to children’s lives, to their futures, is extraordinary. Raising children who can confidently and happily make the very most of their potential in an exciting but unpredictable world is not something we can leave to chance.
- We are a Church of England Primary School in the diocese of Southwark and are committed to ensuring that each child in our care lives life in all its fullness. Our commitment to you is that every child that comes through our doors, no matter what their background or ability, is given the very best start in life. We are a school where children come first, efforts are valued, ambition is nurtured, and where the potential of every child is realized. Cathedral School strives to provide an attractive, safe, well-ordered, child-centered place of learning within a Christian context. Maintaining and sustaining the highest standards of teaching and learning. The school seeks to work positively with parents and carers to fulfill the school’s expectation that all pupils are enabled to achieve at the highest level of which they are capable. As a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, Christian values are built into the ethos. There is a daily act of collective worship, which encourages spiritual development and a mutual understanding of life together. We place a strong emphasis on positive mutual understanding partnerships between home and school, and Parish Life. We attach a high priority to active involvement, building a sense of community, by providing a model of service to all. In the past few years, Cathedral Primary has gone from strength to strength. Our achievements are many, including our best KS2 results which were amongst the highest in the country. High expectations and great enthusiasm for learning are reflected in our extremely high results: In 2013, we were named 21st in the country by the Sunday Times, achieved 66.7% Level 5 in both reading and mathematics, and 29.2% of children achieved Level 6 in mathematics – which is over 5 times the national average. In 2014 the average score achieved by Cathedral School pupils in the examinations (Maths, Writing, Reading, and Grammar) was the highest in the borough. This news is excellent for the school and was on the back of being included in the Sunday Times ‘Top 600 Schools’ report published in November. In 2015 the average grade achieved by Cathedral School pupils in the examinations (Maths, Writing, Reading, and Grammar) was again the highest in the borough. We were also ranked 58th in The Sunday Times list. In 2016, we were again ranked in The Sunday Times list of top-performing schools, in the top 50. In 2017, the percentage of children who achieved a high score in Reading, Writing, and Maths in the KS2 examinations was three times the national figure. The school has received national recognition for the value it adds to its pupils’ high achievement in the key stage 2 tests. The school has qualified for two SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards by being in the top 20% of primary schools nationally their pupils’ high attainment, and in the top 20% for progress made by pupils between their key stage 1 tests, taken at age seven, and their key stage 2 tests, taken at age 11. We were the first school in the borough to achieve the ‘Level 1’ award from UNICEF and in 2013 achieved another borough first and were awarded the top ‘Level 2’ grading. Very few schools across the country hold this award. It is very special and in working towards it, it transformed the school and has had a great impact on teaching and learning and children’s attitudes to each other and the other children around the world. Because of it, our children are increasingly active in playing their part in shaping the world. Our school curriculum is dynamic, and units can be altered and changed within the school year. This could be in response to local and national events, special opportunities afforded the school, or to make even better cross-curricular links at a particular point in the year. The government has made some changes to the National Curriculum which is statutory from September 2014. This change has been a fantastic opportunity for us to review our school curriculum and to continue to develop and plan exciting and challenging learning opportunities for our children. Themed weeks are a fantastic idea because they are really fun and children learn more at the same time as enjoying themselves which I think is important! They seem to help children broaden their experience and awareness. We have always been very proud of our broad, balanced, engaging, and challenging curriculum and so have used this opportunity to incorporate the new National Curriculum requirements into the themes and topics we already have rather than make unnecessary changes. Much of the new curriculum had been trialed over the last academic year with teachers planning to the new requirements in subjects such as Literacy and Numeracy as well as Foundation Subjects. In particular, there will be an even greater focus on cross-curricular links between subjects such as Literacy, History, Geography, Art, and Numeracy as well as Computing and RE. Literacy will often be planned around a text and these may also relate to a topic in a foundation subject such as History or Geography. View full school

- The Cathedral School has a very special ethos that underpins all that we do. Our school aims to nurture the talent and personality of each pupil, enabling all to thrive within a mutually respectful and supportive environment. What do we count as success? That young women and men leave here having begun to discover their individuality, with intellectual curiosity as well as excellent examination results, appreciation of beauty and truth as well as knowledge, kindness as well as competitiveness, and with a breadth of interests and experiences which will enable them to make their way confidently in the adult world. Recognizing that all young people have a unique set of skills and enabling all pupils to fulfill their potential. Opportunities abound for all pupils and students to achieve at the Cathedral School. Whether it is studying in the classroom, competing on the sports field, playing a musical instrument, performing in the inspiring drama productions, singing in Llandaff Cathedral, or taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. At all stages, academic achievement is supported by a strong Learning Support team, and parents are kept informed of progress through six weekly reports. Prep is set at all levels and carefully monitored, so pupils and students develop good habits of self-directed study. Examination results, at both Junior and Senior levels, are consistently impressed by both regional and national standards. The school is regularly one of the top achieving schools in Wales for examinations and it appears high on UK-wide rankings. However, sometimes the least noticed achievements may be the most significant. What matters in the classroom is everyone working hard in ways they can be proud of. At the Cathedral School, we have a clear vision of what education should be about and seek to live by that vision in our day-to-day interactions with one another and in setting the long-term direction of the school. As a Woodard school, we have a vision of a first-class academic education, an extensive co-curricular program that develops the skills and interests of our pupils outside the classroom, and a commitment to high-quality pastoral care within a Christian context. The school's ethos can be articulated in five themes: achievement, care, opportunity, ambition, and leadership. The School Governors and the Senior Leadership Team seek to ensure high-quality leadership and management at all levels of the school. We are fortunate to have a very able and committed staff, excellent facilities, and a very supportive parental body. All of us have one aim: that each pupil should be cared for, and should thrive both within and beyond the classroom. View full school

We have blessed a full-time chaplain, Tom Tilbrook. The success of Chaplaincy depends on the collaboration and support from a cross-section of staff, students, parents, governors, and local clergy who share their gifts of time and talent to make these activities possible. Although the Chaplains do not have a formal counseling role in the school, they are available for students, staff & parents should they need to speak to someone. We serve to support and pray with anyone who is in need. View full school

- Bsix is proud to be a comprehensive sixth form college offering courses in a wide range of subjects and at all levels. We believe that all young people can achieve high standards. We are big enough to offer such a breadth of courses but also small enough to give our students individual care, encouragement, and attention. Bsix College aims to support progression for all students whether that be onto the next level or year of their course, onto university, apprenticeship, or the world of work. We try to keep in touch with as many of our alumni as possible to find out what they are doing now. To read about some of their fascinating journeys. The individuals who make up BSix's teaching and support staff are key to our goal of raising standards and achievement for all students, and we see investing in staff members' welfare and development as a crucial and complementary part of this process. The training covers all aspects of the Equality act and will help ensure you are aware of related legislation. The training will also help you understand your obligations and raise your awareness of disability and equality issues. Bsix is committed to" the value of research for staff, students and the College. We have had a researcher-in-residence in partnership with the Institute of Education. Our teachers are encouraged to undertake action research. University researchers often use BSix as a subject to investigate. Currently, we are part of a study being carried out by the University of Leicester and the Open University called "Living multicultural". Researchers from the two universities visit the College regularly to observe how our students, from widely diverse backgrounds, interact with each other. Below are copies of published research about BSix or by BSix staff. Bsix is committed to the professional development of its staff. In particular, it is seeking to integrate professional development in everyday practice rather than relying on big, "one-off", events that are often externally delivered. Our ambition is to have teachers teaching teachers so that learning takes place all the time and as much informally as formally. In addition, it is crucial that we regard teaching and learning as high-level intellectual activities and we keep continually up to date with the newest developments in both policy and practice. The Student Development Centre aims to ensure that all students have access to support when needed to reach their potential. The department supports young people with a wide variety of needs including Special Educational Needs, Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Difficulties, Looked After Children, Vulnerable Young Adults, Social and Behavioural Difficulties, and attendance issues. A range of Assistive Technologies and Software is available to assist students in accessing the curriculum includes Laptops, Netbooks, Dictaphones, hearing loops, exam reading pens, Dragon, Read & Write Gold, Coloured Overlays, Digital Coloured Overlays, and a growing collection of digital textbooks. Bsix is fully accessible with lift access in A Block, B Block, C Block, and Sports Hall. The college has a mobile hoist and track hoist, and a room suitable for physiotherapy and stretching. Communication and engagement of parents of young people requiring support are important to the Department and are facilitated by regular Parent Forums, morning, evening & weekend events for information sharing and collaboration with external agencies. Young people with SEND, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Difficulties, are allocated to Student Achievement Officers or Student Support Officers. Individualized support for young people with SEND is planned by completing SEND Plans and Individual Learning Plans, where SMART Targets are set at the beginning of each term. Individual young people may be referred to the Safeguarding or Counselling Team if appropriate. Individualized support packages are implemented for young people with SEND, which include: In-class support, Small Group Sessions, 1 to 1 sessions, Reading Group, Peer Mentoring, Personal Mentoring, Group Mentoring, Work Skills, Speech and Language Therapy Youth Club, Advice and guidance, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, Exam Support and/or intervention from external agencies. Individualized support packages are reviewed regularly in several ways. Additional Learning Support Termly Reviews are held three times a year to review the academic progress, SMART targets, attendance, and punctuality of each young person with SEND. Student Support Officers and Student Achievement Officers regularly attend Parents Evenings, departmental meetings, liaising closely with teaching staff and parents regarding the progress of the young people. We recognize the student voice through termly feedback and encourage our young people to voice opinions to the student union, teaching staff, and SMT. View full school

- A very warm welcome to the Brook Special Primary School. Our school is part of the Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community which means that we share our values, vision, ethos, and aspirations with the Willow Primary School, Broadwaters Children’s Centre, and the Broadwaters Extended School Service. What’s more, we share a groundbreaking state-of-the-art building. Our inclusive approach means that pupils live together in an aspirational learning environment where every need is met. Our pupils are aged 4 – 11 and have a range of needs such as Autism severe and complex learning difficulties as well as associated physical, medical, and emotional needs. This means that they need a safe, specialist environment to help them learn and reach their potential. Laughter, excitement, and enthusiasm are evident in all aspects of our school life. Our emphasis on communication, creativity, physical and personal development means that our pupils develop into self-confident learners who are rightly proud of themselves and their achievements. We aim to enable our pupils to move confidently onto the next stage of their lives. To achieve this, we have created a school and inclusive learning community where: Outstanding teaching and learning are central to everything we do and are challenging, rewarding, and fun. The school is full of laughter, light, excitement, and enthusiasm. The curriculum is continuously reinvented by a learning community that is committed to meeting the needs of our pupils. Communication is central - every pupil will leave the school with an individualized system of communication which can be non-verbal, signed, or verbal. Creativity is placed at the center of teaching and learning, breaking down the barriers between subjects. A wide-ranging and highly skilled multidisciplinary team works collaboratively with the school to provide access to the curriculum across the range of pupils. The environment and curriculum provide every pupil with the opportunity to grow personally, socially, and academically to be the best they can be and to develop an overwhelming sense of self-confidence and high self-esteem within a stimulating and caring environment. There are clear boundaries and structures set for the pupils, which are well communicated and consistently reinforced. Every child is entitled to enjoy their childhood and is kept safe. The approach across the inclusive community is holistic and one of collaboration, harmony, and trust, creating a safe, supportive environment. Positive images of and attitudes towards all our pupils are developed in the community to access their right to be included in that community. Difference and diversity are valued, understood, embraced, and celebrated and the whole learning community is respected and valued with any discrimination opposed and rigorously challenged. A caring community is based on fair, understanding, and compassionate relationships. The school and the pupils are placed firmly in the mainstream of educational provision and at the center of community life. The Brook Primary Special School is within the same learning community and in the same building as The Willow Primary School and our vision is very simply about children on a continuum of need including those with the most profound and complex of needs, who are learning, living and belonging together in an aspirational learning environment where every child’s needs are met. Haringey is an area rich in cultural diversity, and the Brook community faces all the benefits and challenges of inner-city life from the range of different experiences, cultures, religions, customs, and languages which pupils, parents/carers, and staff bring to the school. Although our children will come from across the Local Authority, we are very much a part of the Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community (BILC). The Brook offers co-educational day school provision for children with profound, severe, and complex learning difficulties those who have language and communication needs pupils with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), plus associated physical, medical, communication, and emotional needs. This complex range of needs and the inclusive nature of our campus create huge demands on the school’s curriculum to be able to meet the needs of every pupil. The majority of Brook pupils will progress to Riverside as their secondary special school and most of them will then move to the Sixth Form Centre. Our curriculum promotes and sustains a thirst for knowledge and understanding and a love of learning. It covers a wide range of subjects and provides opportunities for academic, technical, and sporting excellence. It has a very positive impact on all pupils’ behavior and safety and contributes very well to pupils’ academic achievement, their physical well-being, and their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. Respecting and developing ‘pupil's voice’ is at the heart of all that we do at the Brook especially considering that many pupils have communication difficulties or have difficulties with social interaction, which means their voice isn’t always easily heard. The supporting adults at school need to help the pupils find and use their voice and at times act as an advocate on their behalf. Pupils are constantly encouraged and enabled to have a pertinent, enthusiastic, listened to, heard, and influential voice. Their thoughts, opinions, and attitudes are considered throughout every area of the curriculum, and where possible the pupils are given choices and offered opportunities to express themselves. Through art, music, drama, dance, planned PSED sessions and much more the pupils can share as much of their personality as they want to with their peers and support staff. View full school

- At The Bridge London Satellite, we aim to provide an education for all our pupils that reflects the National Curriculum but which also takes account of their individual learning needs. The School provides a creative, broad, and balanced curriculum that encourages learners to achieve their potential. However, it is recognized that reasonable adjustments to the National Curriculum will be needed. Alongside the adjusted National Curriculum, we will be running the ‘additional’ curriculum. The ‘additional’ curriculum will allow greater emphasis on the following key areas Social Communication and Interaction Emotional understanding and self-awareness Independence Sensory and Physical OUR MISSION: "To improve children and young people’s lives through innovative teaching and integrated approaches". OUR CORE VALUES: PRIDE PASSION POSITIVITY PARTNERSHIP PROFESSIONALISM The aim of our provision is that all pupils feel included and accepted to achieve their full potential. We want our pupils to be confident, happy, self-aware and independent learners". To meet the individual needs of pupils in our school a range of strategies and interventions are utilized to support our pupil-centered approach. Understanding a pupil’s individual needs is central to all aspects of school life including the learning environment (both indoor and outdoor) and teaching approaches. The CSC Strands will be taught across all Key Stages and are embedded in all aspects of the school day. In addition to the CSC, we will deliver a modified version of the National Curriculum in line with our partner mainstream school. This modification will involve tailoring what is taught and how to suit the specific learning requirements of each pupil. For example, we may cover slightly different topics/programs of study within a National Curriculum subject or we may reduce or increase the focus on specific topics/programs of study within a subject. The Satellite Curriculum for the Early Years includes the CSC and follows the EYFS prime areas of communication and language, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional development. These three prime areas are strengthened and applied through the specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts, and design. The Satellite Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 include the CSC embedded throughout and broadly follows the National Curriculum. Pupils study the following subjects: English, maths, science, art, design and technology, humanities, music, physical education (PE), computing, PSHE, and religious education. The Satellite Curriculum for Key Stage 3 includes the CSC embedded throughout and broadly follows the national curriculum. Pupils study the following subjects: English, maths, science, art, design and technology, humanities, music, PE, computing, PSHE, SRE, religious education, and citizenship. - The Birches is a relatively large specialist support primary school based in South Manchester catering for a vibrant population of truly outstanding children. From the very first time I walked through the doors of the school, it struck me how strongly the children are at the very heart of everything that the school does. The children are valued by a dedicated multi-disciplinary team of staff who will always go the extra mile. Through this highly experienced team, and excellent school resources, we can provide a challenging and rewarding learning environment for all of our pupils. One in which we can nurture them, to ensure that they grow, learn and develop in a safe, secure, and caring environment. We are a 143 place school that supports pupils with a diagnosis of ASC, SLD, and PMLD. The Birches is a fun, forward-thinking school that has communication at the heart of everything we do. Maintained by Manchester Local Authority, facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, a range of outdoor play areas, a sensory garden, two multisensory rooms, and two soft play areas. We offer a vibrant and exciting curriculum with independence, life skills, communication, and physical development as common threads of all that we do. We have a large staff team with a vast amount of experience of working with children and young people with learning difficulties. As well as teaching staff the school offers an onsite School Nurse, Physio team, Speech and Language Team, Sleep counseling team, Outreach program, and Occupational Therapy, and sensory integration. All pupils have an individual Pupil Personal Plan to support their learning which is supported by the curriculum. We invest in PE and Music based activities as key curriculum drivers. We have been accredited by the National Autistic Society as the first maintained school in Manchester to gain Autism Accreditation. We believe in forging a strong and positive partnership with parents, carers, and families. Organized events included weekly coffee mornings, Family Fun days, Christmas and Summer Fayres – We have an active supporting charity, Buddies of The Birches (BOBS) who organize various out of school events throughout the year, including a weekend away for families- We gained the Leading Parent Partnership award in 2011 and regained it in May 2015. We were recognized as Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in 2016/17. We provide pupils with the enrichment of educational visits and community links. We take our pupil’s views and opinions very seriously, especially during School Council Election week. We have a healthy program for volunteers and students and are regularly supported by pupils from Manchester Grammar and Withington Girls Schools. As well as enrichment in the community the school is committed to developing its pupils creatively in areas such as PE and Music – the cheerleading team has represented the school nationally – Go the Birches Bears!! Pupils also take part in rebound therapy sessions, multisensory sessions, hydrotherapy, sensory and yoga sessions, wake-up shake-up sessions, sign to sing. The Birches School is located close to the Withington Community Hospital in West Didsbury, Manchester. The area benefits from the excellent road & public transport links to the city center and the airport. A short walk from either Burton Road or Wilmslow Road/Palatine Road which are served by busy bus routes, with services at least every 5 minutes and a regular night bus. Other attractions within easy reach that the pupils can benefit from including Chorlton Water Park, Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens, Fog Lane Park. The neighboring suburbs of Withington and Disbury also offer a superb mix of shops for developing life skills and independence. Promoting British Values at The Birches Specialist Support School. The Department for Education states that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and these values were reiterated by the Prime Minister in 2014. At The Birches Specialist Support Primary School these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways. The Birches School Curriculum is currently under review and in an exciting phase of development. We have set ourselves the challenge of designing a more appropriate curriculum for our pupils one which is personalized and ensures that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We are creating a curriculum that recognizes and develops the whole individual and focuses on developing the key skills of Communication, Cognition, Physical Development, and Personal & Social Development (including self-help & life skills). These are all key skills that equip children and young people for life beyond school. Our curriculum will reflect and be responsive to the different learning styles of the pupils and build on individual strengths and interests. We hope to create meaningful opportunities both inside the school and out in the wider community which will enable our learners to make sense of the world they live in and transition into the wider community successfully with purpose.
