Lyceum of the Philippines University prides itself on its long and rich tradition of Academic excellence through the legacy of its founder, Dr. Jose P. Laurel. The only Philippine President to have served in all three branches of the Government, Dr. Laurel, was a successful lawyer, legislator, constitutionalist, jurist, writer, scholar, statesman, Philosopher, and above all things, an educator.Dr. Laurel's concern for education was his most abiding passion. A graduate of top educational institutions such as the University of the Philippines College of Law, Escuela de Derecho, the University of Santo Tomas, and Yale University, his credentials as an educator was unassailable. He wrote extensively on education and managed to teach in several educational institutions in Manila, despite his numerous commitments. During the Second World War, as the nation's leader during the darkest period in its history, he introduced educational policies that emphasized and upheld national morale and character. The inspiration to establish a school came to him in the early 1920s while a student at Yale. Three decades later, along with some of his close friends, he turned this dream into a reality. To become a center of academic excellence in the Philippines and the Far East, Lyceum of the Philippines University (as it is now known) formally opened its doors to the public on July 7, 1952. With his admiration for knowledge and his appreciation of classical thought, Dr. Laurel named the school Lyceum of the Philippines after Lykeios, the site in ancient Athens where the great Philosopher Aristotle nurtured his protegees' minds. The school's motto, "Veritas et Fortitudo," "Pro Deo et Patria," reflects Dr. Laurel's belief in the value of learning and character formation for God and country. Unfortunately, Dr. Laurel unexpectedly died in 1959. On his third son Sotero, who was then in the law practice, fell the mantle of responsibility of running the school. He was the natural choice as, in years earlier, Senator Sotero helped his father organize LPU and acted as the first executive secretary to his father. For the next forty-three years, it was this chosen son, Sotero, who nurtured the school and made it grow beyond Manila into the provinces. In 1966, he founded the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, followed by the Philippines-Laguna's Lyceum in 2000. Both campuses are now headed by Senator Laurel's fourth son Dr. Peter P. Laurel. In 2008, another campus in Cavite was established to bring the total number of LPU campuses to five with approximately 37,000 students, about 15,000 of whom are enrolled in various hospitality courses. Senator Laurel's eldest son, Atty. Roberto P. Laurel heads the Manila, Makati, and Cavite campuses. View full university

  5. Lyceum is a non-selective school in an amazing location with a unique educational philosophy. We believe in providing a well-rounded education, where every child has the chance to shine. The Lyceum independent School strives to develop pupils into confident young people with open, questioning, independent minds with a lifelong love of learning. We are a small, hardworking, happy, and successful school. We value our links with parents and we work to help all our pupils to achieve positive and successful outcomes to their transfer to secondary school. The co-founders of the school believed in the centrality of the performing and visual arts in the school curriculum and we are working today to continue their ideals. The Lyceum educates children between the ages of 3 and 11 years. We can offer places in our Early Years department at any time – there are no entrance assessments and places are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. However, where a parent indicates that their child may have a special need or medical or behavioral condition, then the child will have an assessment based on observation and reports from previous carers and other agencies. Parents wishing to apply for a place in other parts of the school undergo an assessment to determine that they will be able to access the curriculum and have a sufficient standard of reading, communication, and social skills to allow a successful transition into the school. The school makes the final decision about entrance and children from all backgrounds are welcome. We do not stream our intake. The school has a small number of clear rules which parents accept by signing their terms and conditions. There is a clear emphasis on traditional manners and good behavior is expected at all times. Disruptive pupils may be asked to leave the school. The school has a Behaviour Policy that can be viewed on request. Before entry, parents need to read and complete the application form carefully and note that there is a non-refundable registration fee. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure the offer of a place Our pupils receive a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched by a program of extra-curricular activities and visits and our unique position in the City of London offers opportunities to access a unique range of educational, historical, and cultural resources for the benefit of our pupils. The Early Years Foundation Stage unit comprises a Reception class and a Nursery class. It is located in a self-contained area on the ground floor of the Lyceum building. There is a good deal of cooperation between the two classes allowing children to develop at their rate whilst being encouraged to share, explore and engage in new experiences. Both classes follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum and the children in the Reception class regularly achieve beyond its requirements. The Lyceum independent School strives to develop pupils into confident young people with open, questioning, independent minds with a lifelong love of learning. To ensure that each pupil’s talents are discovered and nurtured and they achieve their potential in terms of spiritual awareness, academic achievement, and aesthetic appreciation. To ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum and a range of extra-curricular activities. To ensure that all pupils develop morally, socially, academically, physically, spiritually, and culturally. The school promotes a non-denominational, Christian ethos. We welcome children of all or no faith backgrounds. To develop in our pupil's confidence, independence, compassion, and an inquisitive love of learning. To inculcate and develop in our pupils a positive attitude towards behavior based on traditional manners, courtesy, and respect for others. To equip our pupils with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to enable them to grow into responsible and positive members of society, making informed decisions about their education and personal lives. We use Golden Lane, the Artillery Ground, and Bunhill Fields for sporting activities. During the winter we also go ice-skating at the Broadgate rink. All children participate in physical activity each day. As well as sports, this may be dance, gymnastics, drama, or small games, all provided on the premises. We have the advantage of a covered play area to enable our sports program to continue whatever the weather. Children learn French from Nursery onwards and Latin in Years 5 and 6. We believe in enriching the learning experiences of our pupils and our curriculum is supported by a full program of educational trips and visits, whether locally, nationally, or internationally. We also offer a program of clubs which complement the lessons that take place in the timetable. In this way we aim, as a school, to develop the whole child and give pupils access to a range of sporting, creative and academic pursuits. We believe that for a small school, the range of extra-curricular experiences is impressive and indeed, this was recognized in our most recent ISI Inspection report.

  8. The School is a private non-commercial education establishment, founded in 1999 by the Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages – which in its turn is an examination center of Cambridge University in the RF. The School prepares its leavers for entrance to the founder Higher Education Establishment (HEE) as well as for entrance into the Philology, Linguistics, Economics, and Politics profile Faculties of Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and other fees. The establishment implements general secondary and (complete) high school education programs, and also supplementary programs in instructive, cultural studies, and sports subjects. Learning occurs during high school years (from 7 to 11). The Federal and Regional components of the educational guidelines for secondary education establishments form the basis of teaching. The hall marks and concept of the Linguistics School as a school with advanced study of certain subjects are reflected in the school’s curriculum and are demonstrated by including such subjects as the English language, Rhetoric, a second foreign language (Spanish, German, and French), English Literature, World Economics and Politics, the Economics of Russia, and a preparation course for Moscow Guides-Translators. The Russian language and Mathematics are taught at a specialized level alongside the English language in the Senior Years, and in addition to this supplementary preparation for the Unified State Exam (USE) in the Russian language, Mathematics, Social Studies, the English language, and other subjects is carried out. Pupils also prepare for and take Cambridge University certificate exams in English as a Second Language and First Language English at the School. To cultivate a determined, competent, educated, and well-brought-up school leaver with a good attitude to society and life. A task the School has set for itself is to form a highly qualified, creative, and friendly teaching team of like-minded people. The School’s teaching is based on a humane personal approach to education and raising pupils, the basic principle of allowing the individuality and uniqueness of each child to shine while taking into account each child’s right to a subjective attitude to social values and the surrounding world, the mutual unmasking of the personalities of teacher and pupil, and unanimity in demands from and respect for a child. The School’s working hours are the same as a normal school day. However, by way of helping very busy parents we can, by prior agreement, organize afternoon classes where pupils are supervised by a teacher and have the opportunity to complete homework to high standards, to consult with teachers on the Russian language, Mathematics, and the English language, to take part in social events with lunch and high-tea provided. “Whole day” groups finish at 7 p.m, although, when necessary, a child may remain at school even later than this. Cutting-edge teaching techniques complement the humane personal approach to a child, small classes and a friendly atmosphere, interesting extra-curricular activities, the option of attending afternoon classes, the comfort and beauty of the School’s interior create all the conditions for getting to grips with the programs successfully, the filling of gaps in knowledge, the formation of a broad skills base for pupils, the discovery and development of their creative potential, quick social adaptation and much besides all allow pupils to study here with interest and to achieve success. 9. The teachers at ALIS Learning Centers are passionate about your child’s happiness and growth. They’re dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment that cultivates self-esteem. ALIS is more than a job to them. It’s an opportunity to share their passion for life while they awaken the wonder inside every child. Here’s how they do it. Our low teacher-to-student ratios allow teachers to focus on the individual learning styles and needs of each child in our center. ALis teachers and staff want to form a strong partnership with you to ensure the best possible experience for your child. Our teachers provide daily communication with families and seek to understand your unique needs. ALIS centers devote more time and resources to teacher training than any other childcare provider. Twice a year we host the largest early childhood teacher training program in the country. Our teachers are dedicated to developing your child’s potential and are sensitive to your child’s individual needs. The Achievement Gap is Not a Problem While no reasonable opponent of early childhood education can deny the existence of an obvious achievement gap in education, by totally ignoring the fact that the academic playing field is not level, they’re perpetuating a serious myth of omission. If you ignore the achievement gap and its causes, it makes it a lot easier to argue against early education spending. We know that kids who get off to a bad start in school have a hard time making up the ground, and while teachers make a big difference, they can’t control what happens outside the classroom. Your child’s first years of school are filled with many wondrous moments. It’s a time of tremendous social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development, and it can come and go before you know it. The skills learned at this stage — knowing what sounds the letter A makes or adding 2 + 2 — may seem simple but they will set your child up for a lifetime of learning. Pre-K may look like all fun and games (music, storytime, dancing, art) but there’s an intense amount of brainwork going on. View full school

    The Lyceum

View full school
