  1. Whitefield Academy, a Christ-centered college preparatory school, exists to bolster Christian families in rearing young people who go on to college and life with a passion for learning, for others ahead of self, and for the living and active Jesus. Whitefield Academy strengthens the intellect, so students gain more than basic knowledge - they gain understanding and wisdom. Students learn to think and reason well, read closely, write persuasively, and solve challenging and complex problems. Strong intellect and authentic Christ-centered character go hand-in-hand. Whitefield cultivates Christ-centered character by bolstering a vibrant community of like-minded families and educators to raise a generation of leaders to impact the world for Christ. Such communities are rare, yet vitally important to honor the innocence of young people in a society that is hostile to the values that we hold dear. A school's core business is to strengthen the intellect. However, a school that fails to provide a well-rounded experience is incomplete because experience drives the character. Students at Whitefield discover, develop, and maximize a wide variety of gifts in athletics and the arts. Learning is enriched through relationships among a diverse student body, and students learn to lead by serving "others ahead of self." All of these experiences contribute to an enriched life. The school holds fast to its founding vision and core values: Academic excellence in a college preparatory program taught from a Biblical worldview Covenantal education in which the faculty, administrators, board of trustees, and parents form a partnership to educate, encourage, and instruct students in a Christ-centered community Enrollment reflecting the racial, ethnic, and economic diversity within the body of Christ Effective servant leadership as a characteristic of the Whitefield Academy graduates who are prepared to make a difference in their world for Christ Faithful stewardship of the talents and resources of the faculty, students, and the entire Whitefield community, so that God gets the glory Modeling excellent Christian education in the United States At Whitefield, outstanding academic success is achieved by inspiring young people to excel through experiential and analytic learning and instruction and mentoring by exemplary Christian teachers. This inspiration creates a more engaged student who is better prepared for college and life after college. Students receive focused instruction in an environment where they are challenged and supported by their peers and teachers. With a small teacher-to-student ratio, each student receives individualized attention and the personalized rigor they need to exceed. A wide range of academic courses - including 31 AP and Honors classes - and leadership opportunities, college and career counseling, and countless field trips around Atlanta and the world create an environment full of opportunities. The results have been impressive. The middle 50 percent of SAT scores at Whitefield Academy range between 215 and 615 points higher than the Georgia average. The Class of 2015 earned $7.7 million in scholarships and grants through academics, athletics, and fine arts. At Whitefield, academics' emphasis stems only from the deeper foundation and search for truth, knowledge, and wisdom. Young students are introduced formally to technology through a computer class in the third and fourth grades. During fifth and sixth grades, technology is incorporated into classroom learning by using the mobile Chrome Book cart and more directly through a sixth-grade computer rotation course. Seventh through twelfth grades participate in the BYOL program with integration of technology throughout the curriculum. Upper School course offerings include computer science, AP computer science, theater tech, innovation class, and graphic design. A robotics club meets on Wednesday mornings, and multiple robotics camps are offered through the summer program.

  3. Welcome to Whitefield School. At Whitefield, our first responsibility is to provide a happy and safe environment that helps all our children to succeed and meet or exceed national expectations. We know our pupils well and we do our very best to make sure every child is provided for as an individual. We have high expectations and aspirational aims for our school and our children. Our school is a place where everyone is treated equally, encouraged and respected. We believe that all children should be able to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to our school being a safe and inclusive place where learning is nurtured and encouraged in a happy, caring, and fun environment. We all work for our school to be a happy place where good behavior is expected and all children enjoy their educational journey. To help pupils to develop lively, enquiring minds and the ability to question and argue rationally. To provide a curriculum that is creative, broadly based, relevant, and meets the needs of individual children. To bring out the best in children at our school and support the development of life skills for a successful future. To ensure the development and consolidation of basic skills in Literacy and Mathematics. To allow each child the opportunity to meet their potential in happy, caring, and fun surroundings, promoting high standards for all. To create a stimulating and challenging environment that is supportive, secure, and caring. To help pupils understand the world they live in and our part in the local, national and global community. To listen to and value the views of parents and to work in partnership with them. To enable all members of the school community to participate in aspects of school life. At Whitefield Primary School we believe that reading for pleasure is key to success. All children are encouraged to love reading a wide variety of material of books, magazines, newspapers, and to read online. A love of reading is shared by all. At Whitefield Primary School, we teach a high-quality, daily, discrete phonics session from FS1 to Year 2, and where it is needed in other year groups. Primarily, we follow the Read, Write Inc. scheme which is tailored to the needs of individuals and groups of learners. Learning is multi-sensory. The children are assessed half termly to track their progress. Appropriate interventions are implemented to accelerate progress for individual children. At Whitefield Primary School reading is taught daily. Children are taught to read in guided reading sessions. Children are taught in groups or individually and have access to a wide range of interventions, including Reading Recovery. Children are also able to apply learned skills in a variety of activities. Our book organization system is based on Book Bands and Reading Recovery levels up to Lime level. This includes a colored band & number which correspond to reading levels. Each level has carefully chosen words, phrases, phonics, and comprehension. At Key Stage 2 books are organized into year groups with an appropriate range of challenges and content. The children’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) development plays a significant role in their ability to achieve and learn, as well as their ability to contribute to the local and wider community. The curriculum is planned to engage our pupils, have a positive impact on their behavior and safety, and help them to attain high in all areas of their learning. All areas of the curriculum will contribute to the child’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. We want our pupils to flourish as reflective, thoughtful, and responsible individuals who are curious about the world around them.
  4. Whitefield School's mission statement ‘Enjoyment, Achievement and Wellbeing for all’ and my priority is to ensure that it is a reality for every pupil. It is a pleasure to see, in lessons, assemblies, and other school events, how much the majority of our pupils like coming to school and relish the activities planned for them. Activities that are motivating provide the best route to progress. To address enjoyment and achievement, we will continue to develop the curriculum and to offer a wide range of activities in music, arts, and sport through which children and young people can express themselves. Wellbeing is now a national priority, included in the School Improvement Plan. To support wellbeing, we will continue to build strong relationships with children so that they know that their voices are heard and to develop our expertise in helping those children and young people who are finding life or learning particularly difficult. Alongside our aspirations for the pupils, the Senior Leadership Team and I are continuing to work to ensure that our amazing staff team has every opportunity to develop their skills and progress their careers through high-quality training within the Academy and in collaboration with universities and colleges. My third priority is to work with Elaine and the Directors to strengthen the Academy and to build partnerships within the education world, learning from others and sharing our expertise. Whitefield has developed a bespoke personalized curriculum so that all pupils benefit from truly individualized learning concerning the National Curriculum. Teachers' planning ensures that pupils take part in activities that are meaningful and interesting for them and through which they address relevant and challenging learning outcomes. This enables all pupils to maximize their progress. The curriculum is designed to help our pupils become: Successful learners who enjoy learning and make outstanding progress. Effective communicators who can express themselves, make choices, and build positive relationships with other people. Confident individuals who take a full part in activities within school and the community. Responsible citizens who behave well and make a positive contribution to the school and the wider world. Lifelong learners who leave school are equipped for the adult world whether in paid employment, education, or supported living.
  5. Whitefield School is a unique and exciting school one of the most improved schools in the country. Whitefield has a truly global student body that speaks over 70 different languages and is a model of racial harmony. Indeed, Ofsted noted in 2014 that ‘The school is a harmonious and happy community in which adults and students show high levels of courtesy and respect for each other.’ Whitefield School is a secondary school and sixth form located in the London Borough of Barnet. In 2009 it came under new leadership and was in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country in 2010. Since then it has been in the top 1 or 2% of schools in the country for the value it adds to the expected progress of its students, (i.e. they achieve more at Whitefield than they might at most other schools). Whitefield was one of the first schools in Barnet to convert to academy status in 2011, to use the freedoms granted by this status to further improve the remarkable academic performance of its students. The sustained improvement in exam results, outstanding teachers, and strong relationships between staff and students, has seen numbers applying to join Whitefield increase dramatically in recent years. We have invested over £3 million in refurbishing the site so that the school itself and our classrooms are now bright and welcoming spaces. All classrooms are fitted with interactive whiteboards and students have access to seven specialist IT suites including two media rooms full of the latest Apple Mac computers. Our science laboratories have all been refurbished and we have two state-of-the-art All Weather Pitches. We are committed to developing the whole child and for the past three years have run well over 100 residential and field trips as a conscious decision to open the horizons of the students who come here, to show them theatre, museums, galleries, and outward bound centers. There are growing international links between Whitefield and several countries and closer to home our students organize and run lots of events for local Primary and Special Schools and Senior Citizen centers. Whitefield students leave with a keen awareness of the need to act as responsible citizens at both a local and a global level. At Whitefield School, we recognize not only the importance of helping pupils to flourish academically but also spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally. Our aim is that our pupils and students are fully prepared for life in British society, to take their role as good citizens, and able to make the best possible contribution to the Common Good. We teach the importance of British Values by going much deeper into the meaning of what it is to live a good life. This provides the context and meaning for understanding why British values are important and ensures these values are reinforced in a pervasive manner that permeates the school community. We provide an education that focuses on the formation of the whole person and our vocation and purpose in life. We place a significant emphasis on the celebration of individuality and difference within our communities and our calling to work for the Common Good, in the service of others.

  7. Whitefield Christian Schools comprises two schools: the Academy (JK to grade ? and the Collegiate (grade 9-12). Whitefield has served the Christian community for 30 years and has emphasized the Lord Jesus Christ's preeminence in every aspect of the curriculum. Whitefield's motto is "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). Whitefield is dedicated, using a quality Christian education to help each student reach his/her spiritual, moral, academic, and physical potential. The Collegiate is registered with and inspected by the Ministry of Education in Ontario. Whitefield operates as a "relay team" from JK to grade 12 and has been graduating students since 1999. Students have enjoyed equal opportunities at Ontario's universities and colleges and those in other provinces and countries. Whitefield is currently serving second-generation families of former students and graduates. The Whitefield teaching staff are a highly motivated, dedicated, and well-trained group of individuals who regularly go beyond their duty to ensure that every student is well-equipped for post-secondary education and life. Mentoring, challenging, guiding, and leading by example are daily characteristics of Whitefield staff. In September 1989, Whitefield Christian Academy opened its doors in the basement of Toronto Free Presbyterian Church at 1355 Warden Avenue, just south of Ellesmere Road. The first enrolment numbered sixteen pupils, ranging from SK to Grade 5, under the oversight of Principal Ruth Slade, assisted by Mrs. Jill Saunders. On that first day, Dr. Frank McClelland, founder, and the president, saw his vision for Christian education becoming a reality. By the second year, the school enrolment had doubled, new staff was added, and two new grades, JK and Grade 6. A substantial gift from the McComb family made it possible to purchase the Butternut Learning Centre from Mrs. Coombs (wife of Ernie Coombs, "Mr. Dress-Up," popular children's television personality). Located on Finch Avenue East, just west of Neilson Road, it was ideal for accommodating the student body, which had doubled again by the third year of operation. By 1994, the "McComb Building" was becoming too small for the student population of over one hundred, and the senior students had to relocate to the new adjacent church building. In 1995, Whitefield Christian Collegiate Institute commenced as a registered high school with the Ministry of Education in Ontario. Mr. Don Morley was its first vice-principal, succeeded by Mr. Robin Cleland. A new school building was completed in 1999, comprising grades 4-12 and additional facilities such as a double gymnasium, twelve classrooms, art room, science lab, computer lab, music room, industrial room, offices, kitchen, and an upper-level auditorium. Today, there are about 40 staff members (full- and part-time) and about 250 students. Since 1999, Whitefield has been graduating students, many of whom are honorable Christian men and women making a difference in their communities, both in Canada and across the world, as physicians, pharmacists, nurses, business people, teachers, designers, engineers, and more. Putting God first has always been a priority at Whitefield. God has given us thirty years of His blessing and outstanding provision. Therefore, we trust Him for the future and pray continually that every student that comes through Whitefield's doors will not only excel in this life but ultimately will come to know Jesus Christ personally and be prepared for eternity. The Primary division (JK-Grade 3) is housed in the McComb Building, a historic building in Scarborough. Modernized and inviting, this building provides a welcoming atmosphere for our youngest students. We offer full-day kindergarten and a well-rounded academic program, complemented with visual art, music, French, and physical education classes for all students. The Junior division (Grades 4-8) operates on the primary school building's ground level. The program focuses on strengthening core subjects (English, mathematics, science) in high school preparation. Students also study visual art, music, social studies, French, computer, and physical education. The teachers are committed to fostering superior learning and work habits in their students and providing organized and disciplined classes. The classrooms are large and well-equipped. The high school is located on the upper level of the primary school building. As a registered and inspected school with the Ministry of Education in Ontario, our students can obtain the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The Collegiate offers over sixty courses, mostly at the academic and university or university/college level. Our focus is on the core subjects, but we also offer a wide range of options, including three modern languages and classical Greek and Latin. Our graduates have attended and do attend universities across Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Far East. Bi-annually, high school students can participate in primary dramatic production. Students participate in achievement tests and university-sponsored competitions. See Collegiate Handbook for specific details.

View full school
  10. View full school

  14. View full school
