  1. A kindergarten is the very first school a child attends and hence we place a strong emphasis on our school atmosphere. St Teresa's Kindergarten uses "developmentally appropriate" teaching practices to suit both the needs and levels of the children. To put it simply, our teachers think first about what young children are like and then create an environment and experiences that are in tune with their characteristics. Our teachers make learning relevant, interesting, and fun. Children in our kindergarten learn through individual, small group teaching, and whole-class activities. They are encouraged to Wonder, Think, Feel and Imagine. Our qualified and experienced Early Childhood teachers make use of thematic learning. The themes are related to daily life experiences, children's interests, and current happenings. The main emphasis is on the key learning areas of English, Early Mathematics, Science, Arts and Crafts, Music, Cooking, Health, Physical Education, and Personal Development. Our classrooms are luxuriously large, airy, and bright with lots of natural light. Measuring 27 ft in length and 22 ft in breadth, each classroom has different "Activity Corners" where children can actively explore, play, work and move around freely. All classroom furniture and shelves are in bright, child-friendly colors. They have been specially tailor-made to appeal to children and ensure their safety. Storybooks, play equipment, and stationery are stored at a height convenient for children to easily access them. Our kindergarten has its very own playground that is equipped with slides, swings, and other play equipment. Special rubber mats have been installed around all outdoor play equipment to ensure the safety of children and to prevent serious injury. In addition, whenever children use the playground they are supervised by the teachers. The school will hold two meetings per year. These meetings will allow parents to speak directly with their child's teacher, and discuss their development throughout the school year thus far. It will also be a chance to ask questions or voice concerns directly to teachers. The school will organize school outings periodically. A notification letter will be sent home with details of the planned excursion. Parents are welcome to assist and join us on these outings. However, such trips will be canceled at short notice should there be a change in the weather. We encourage you to make an appointment with the class teacher to discuss your child's progress or any school-related problems. Parents are requested not to discuss such matters with the teacher when children are entering or leaving the school. To notify the school if your family has moved to a new address. It would help us contact you in an emergency. Birthday parties can be held during school hours only. If you intend to celebrate your child's birthday at school, it is best to inform the class teacher at least a week in advance. It is advisable to inform the school if your child needs special attention or if he/she is allergic to any medicine or food. If your child is sick, do be considerate and ensure that he/she has completely recovered and is past the infectious period before sending him/her to school. A doctor's certificate is needed if the child has suffered from any infection, such as mumps, chickenpox, measles, etc.
  2. Welcome to St. Teresa's Academy. This is a special place where we share a tradition and commitment to personal, academic, and spiritual growth. This is our legacy since our founding over 150 years ago by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The Academy's identity with the sisters serves as the foundation for education as a Catholic institution. St. Teresa's Academy fosters, nurtures, and guides students to successful futures that will someday take them across the country and world. These tomorrow leaders will leave the Academy with a solid educational and spiritual foundation and know they have been a part of an exceptional tradition. Located on a beautiful, college-like campus in the heart of the Brookside and south Plaza neighborhoods, St. Teresa's promotes excellence in education. Here, students learn about the world and think beyond their classroom walls to succeed in an increasingly international and competitive environment. Every student utilizes a customized Surface Pro tablet for use throughout her tenure at STA. The wireless campus and distance learning classrooms enhance our global education initiatives. Accredited by the North Central Association/AdvancED since 1923, St. Teresa's molds students into confident, skilled, and caring young women through a challenging curriculum, an all-female environment, a diverse student body, Christian values, and personal responsibility. St. Teresa's Academy is committed to the education of young women. We are a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory high school sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The Academy is rooted in Christian values and embraces a diverse student body. We promote excellence in education through a challenging curriculum, personal responsibility, and participation in extracurricular activities. Mutual respect, integrity, compassion, and justice are values reflective of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and provide the school community's basis. Belief in these values is expressed through prayer, liturgy, and service to others. Through the collaborative effort of the administration, faculty, and staff, parents, the board of directors, and alumnae, students learn the relationship between freedom and personal responsibility, empowering them to contribute positively to their world. All students are exposed to various educational activities and assessments to meet the diverse needs of individual learners. Students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process, using various thinking and reasoning strategies. A successful student links new information with existing knowledge in meaningful ways and uses various thinking and reasoning strategies. The school's college-preparatory curriculum fosters logical, imaginative, and collaborative thinking. The interdisciplinary approach to instruction emphasizes the integration of knowledge. The curriculum encourages problem-solving, decision making, and aesthetic appreciation--tools for lifelong learning. The Academy's single-sex environment enhances leadership, self-confidence, and the development of a positive self-image. The curriculum incorporates women's contributions throughout history while emphasizing healthy lifestyles and community service--integral to the St. Teresa's Academy education. The St. Teresa's Academy community values and embraces a culturally, economically, ethnically, and racially diverse student body. All community members bring divergent backgrounds and experiences that help develop others' understanding and appreciation, vital in today's global environment. St. Teresa's Academy also encourages student participation in a broad spectrum of extracurricular activities. These include the visual and performing arts, clubs, and academic and athletic programs. Leadership skills, competitiveness, and creativity are often revealed, with students actively engaged in activities they find fun and interesting. Diversity has been a critical component of St. Teresa's Academy's mission and philosophy since our founding in 1866. The STA community values and embraces a racially, culturally, ethnically, geographically, and economically diverse student body and school community. Students, faculty, and staff with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives enrich and enhance the learning process and help each of us develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes vital to succeed and live a meaningful life in today's global community. St. Teresa's recently underwent a Diversity Needs Assessment with our student body, faculty, parents, and alumni. Information garnered from this assessment is being used to develop a comprehensive strategic action plan for a new Diversity Initiative. This initiative will not only strengthen and expand our commitment to diversity but will identify concrete action steps we can take over the next few years to increase and celebrate diversity in our community while nurturing an inclusive, welcoming environment for all. The Academy's college-prep curriculum is innovative, rigorous, and proudly traditional. Students choose from a broad-based curriculum with more than 100-course selections available, ranging from calculus, chemistry, and world languages to graphic design, computer programming, and dance. Each year, STA graduates receive merit-based scholarships to many prestigious colleges and universities. At St. Teresa's Academy, working hard, challenging each other, and striving to be the best is the rule, not the exception. View full school
  3. St Teresa's College, Abergowrie, has served the needs of families since 1933. There is a strong rural dimension to the college that has developed from pioneering days with the Christian Brothers, at the then Bishop of Townsville, to provide a College that caters mainly for boys from rural backgrounds. The college has excelled over the last decade in supporting parents and communities to educate remote Indigenous Australian students from the Northern Territory, Cape York, the Torres Strait, and even the southern Queensland area. As a Catholic residential boarding College, we can offer students a very complete and fulfilling educational experience in partnership with their parents. St Teresa's College Abergowrie is a Catholic secondary boy boarding college located in the Herbert River Valley, 38 km from Ingham, situated on Warrgamay land. We are an inclusive community, embracing families from the Australian mainland and islands and international students from Papua New Guinea. More than 40 communities are represented within the college, and as many as 70 languages and dialects are spoken. Many faith traditions live in our faith community, enriching the living of the message of Jesus Christ and sharing in the truth and challenge of the Gospel. St Teresa's College, Abergowrie strives to: Create a home away from home and purposely build an inclusive, safe, life-giving environment. Create an Abergowrie family where the spirit of Jesus Christ is joyfully embraced and evidenced. Create a learning environment that is relevant, appropriate, and authentic to the needs of all students, in line with Townsville Catholic Education Office curriculum guidelines. Create effective programs that innovatively engage students to grow into successful, good men. Create an environment of outreach within the college, drawing on the charism of Blessed Edmund Rice. The Community Engagement Officer role is to establish and manage the development of the cultural programs for students, provide pastoral care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families work closely with key stakeholder groups including Townsville Catholic Education Officers, the College Leadership Team, The Community Consultation Committee and external government agencies. The Community Engagement Officer also provides leadership and advice in community capacity building within the College context with a particular focus on the community consultation meetings and coordination of staff visits to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. St Teresa's College, Abergowrie understands it can be difficult for some families to travel to our school, so St Teresa's College, Abergowrie comes to you. The college's community visits offer families in remote and regional areas the opportunity to ask questions and meet College staff who welcome both new inquiries and old faces. These community visits provide an opportunity to meet with families who have entrusted St Teresa's College, Abergowrie College with their sons, and keep in touch with our College Old Boys. Visiting staff organize meeting rooms to allow new families to ask questions. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Newsletters to find where we are visiting next.
  4. A small school with a big heart. St Teresa’s School started in 1930 when three Sisters of Mercy welcomed their first five pupils to a garage in Keyes Avenue, Rosebank. There was no government support of any kind for Catholic Schools so, of necessity, the school was private. With careful management and through the support of parents, the school was financially viable and was gradually able to extend its facilities along Keyes Ave to meet new needs. It was one of the first schools in the country to defy Apartheid laws and admit pupils of all races. Rooted in Christ’s teaching of love for God, self, and others, the family of St Teresa’s School is committed to developing the values of compassion, service, love, and respect in our girls. We aim to nurture and inspire responsible, enquiring young women who strive for excellence in all facets of life. At our school, we provide a holistic, Christian education in a loving, secure and structured family environment. We encourage each child to develop her talents, focusing on individual attainment rather than competitiveness with others. At the same time, we promote respect for self, others, and the environment. Personal responsibility is encouraged. Our school aims to provide the environment and facilities for the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, creative, and physical development of all of our learners. We strive to enable the learners to value their uniqueness to develop a healthy self-image. We encourage the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing world and to live at peace within it. We support and supplement the efforts of the parents in challenging each girl to achieve the best of which she is capable. St Teresa’s prides itself on its service to learners by offering a holistic education. In line with this holistic education, St Teresa’s has built up a reputation for academic excellence. The school curriculum follows the requirements of the South African curriculum statements. High School education is divided into two components: the GET (General Education and Training) which consists of Grades 7, 8, and 9, and the FET (Further Education and Training) which includes Grades 10, 11, and 12. The final exit qualification comes at the end of the Grade 12 year in the writing of a public examination, the National Senior Certificate, under the auspices of the Independent Examination Board (IEB). Learners are taught in mixed ability classes. Learners are encouraged to develop a sound work ethic and small class sizes allow for individual attention. Academic support is available to learners in every subject. If any academic concerns are raised by a teacher, communication with a parent/s is done immediately. Both formal and informal assessment methods are used to assess a learner’s progress. Major examinations are held in July and November for Grades 7-11. By IEB policy on inclusive education, internal concessions, such as extra time in exams are allocated where needed. Our academic staff are highly qualified and continual professional development is emphasized. All teachers are SACE registered. Performance evaluation is an ongoing process to ensure that the needs of the learners are being met by the staff. This curriculum covers grades 7, 8, and 9. At St Teresa’s, we have developed a modular system for our Grade 7, 8, and 9 pupils. The modular system is composed of non-core subjects, to promote deeper and more thorough learning in these subjects. This is vital as it informs the decision-making process in choosing the three optional subjects required for Grade 10. As such the timetable is structured to provide more time for module subjects to allow for in-depth learning. The non-core subjects are divided into an Arts key, a Science Key, and Humanities Key. Every term, the learners will take one subject out of the three keys. This subject will then be written off at the end of the term. The system works very much like a university system, whereby modules are written off at the end of a term. St Teresa’s offers an exciting and diverse cultural life for the girls at the school. We view our cultural activities as an integral part of school life. The girls are encouraged to explore the range of their talents and interests. The main purpose of sport at St Teresa’s School is to provide each learner with the knowledge and experience to be Active in Life. Throughout the school, the focus is on providing opportunities for participation, enjoyment, and excellence. Sport is divided into three areas: Physical Education (including Life Skills/Orientation), competitive sport, and development/social sport. The Sports Department, headed by the Director of Sport, is responsible for the organization and implementation of all three areas of sport. Physical Education is a curricular activity in which all grade 7 – 9 learners are required to participate. Competitive and development / social sports are co-curricular activities, in which all learners are strongly encouraged to participate and regard as an extension of the school day. Our curriculum focuses on age-appropriate lessons, which are based on CAPS and the philosophy of Long Term Participant Development. The FUNdamental movement and sports skills taught in the Junior Primary prepare the girls to develop their skills and training techniques in the Senior Primary, to develop performance and team strategies during High School! JUNIOR PRIMARY (GRADE 00 – GRADE 3) 30 Rutland Avenue Craighall Park 2196

9. View full school

  12. With over 640 pupils, St. Teresa’s is the largest Catholic independent girls’ school in the country. It is a strong caring community based on Catholic traditions. We offer an inclusive environment welcoming students from all backgrounds, open to students of all faiths and none. Our core values knit the school together, resulting in an atmosphere of mutual support, vibrancy, and kindness. St Teresa’s is a dynamic school that has embraced the challenge to modernize and update, whilst holding values and philosophies which define its character and spirit. The changes at St Teresa’s have been wide-ranging and both an academic and aesthetic nature, with improvements to the environment implemented on a grand scale throughout the campus. The positive changes have been echoed by optimism and bonhomie throughout the school from Nursery to Sixth Form, true to our School Values of Faith, Character, Community, Compassion, and Intellect which have never been more vigorously endorsed or more clearly demonstrated. With recognized strengths spanning academia, sport, and the creative and performing arts, we focus on the individual, allowing girls to achieve their best and enabling them to follow their unique path to happiness and success. There is no “one size fits all” at St Teresa’s our girls are individuals and valued as such. No one is invisible, and we know who needs to be stretched and who needs extra help. This commitment to individual care underpins our whole ethos and approach to teaching every student within our care. A ‘can-do attitude is encouraged at all times, and a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond the curriculum enables girls to develop and discover new abilities, interests, and talents while they study towards achieving first-rate GCSEs and A levels. No one is pigeon-holed. Talent and achievement of all types are praised and confidence blossoms as a result. Our primary aim is, of course, to educate, but to do so in the true meaning of the word St Teresa’s is not an academic hothouse but aims to draw out the talents latent in every girl so that at St Teresa’s she will become the best she can be. No class is greater than 20. GCSE groupings are smaller and, for A-Level lessons, a tutorial style in preparation for university. Girls are supported but encouraged to think independently and to take responsibility for their learning. This leads to excellent A level and GCSE results from a broad-ability intake which, on a like-for-like basis, shows that our most academically able girls will outperform their counterparts in highly selective schools whilst being able to carry on with their sport, music, drama, and other interests. At St Teresa’s Effingham we aim: To encourage pupils to rejoice in and do well through the pursuit of academic excellence across the curriculum and beyond To provide support, encouragement, and challenge so that pupils realize their potential and are well prepared for the future To promote high standards of personal behavior and the development of moral and spiritual values View full school
  13. St. Teresa’s has a warm, caring Catholic ethos that is central to the work and life of our school. We believe that all children are entitled to receive a high-quality, creative education that emphasizes the importance of developing key skills as well as the whole child through the arts, the teaching of thinking skills, encouraging independent learning, and exploring the Gospel values. Every pupil at St Teresa’s should leave knowing God’s love and being able to show God’s love. We want them to have enjoyed their learning thoroughly, always giving 100% and achieving the very best that they can so that they are ready for the next part of their lives. We have the highest expectations of our children achieving their best in a safe, secure and happy environment. We expect outstanding behavior, hard work, and respect for everyone. We promote a culture of positivity and the children are rewarded for their ‘can-do attitude to school and life. At St. Teresa's we are constantly striving for excellence. We are passionate about improving children’s life chances by giving them a love of learning and a drive to succeed. Our vision for St Teresa’s is one of excellence in all areas, not just in academic capacities. We want to ensure that every child who comes here makes excellent progress at their level and leaves with positive and happy memories of school that will last a lifetime. St Teresa’s is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all our children in school. We believe that children have a right to learn in a supportive, caring, and safe environment which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse where staff are vigilant for signs of any child in distress and will follow school and local authority policy to address any issues. At St. Teresa’s, we endeavor to help each child to develop spiritually, socially, aesthetically, and academically to make school a place where children can learn to work and play together and accept responsibility for making choices whilst growing together daily in the knowledge and love of God and the teaching of the Church: and all things to give witness to Christ. Treat every person with equality of esteem and respect and dignity due to a child of God. Strive for all pupils regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, religious belief, sexual orientation, socio-economic background to achieve the highest possible standards in their learning, make good progress and be committed to closing the gap of attainment for all vulnerable groups of pupils. Strive to achieve equality of opportunity for all, adults and pupils, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, religious belief, sexual orientation, socio-economic background. 14. St. Teresa’s school is a vibrant and diverse learning community. It is rich in history having been at the heart of the Parish alongside the church for over 75 years. The bond between the church and the school is unique within the Deanery. Children grow in their faith as a result of ‘joined-up thinking’ between the Pastoral care team in school and the support of the Parish Pastoral team. Children are at the heart of all that we do and we invest a lot of time ensuring that we meet the needs of entire families, making pastoral care and safety our priority. We feel strongly that all the adults who work with children in school have a shared responsibility to nurture children’s talents and support them in areas of difficulty. Here at St Teresa’s we always reflect carefully on what we are doing to ensure the best for the children we serve with our drive always being equality and excellence. English, mathematics, and science remain very important and are considered the core subjects in both primary and secondary education. The National Curriculum sets out in detail what must be taught in each of these subjects for each year group. In parts, our curriculum will be contextual and thematic and take the form of a learning journey linking subjects such as English, History, Geography, Art, and DT, however, there are exceptions to this and subjects like Maths, RE, PE, Music, French, and ICT will be taught discretely, with links made where possible. At the heart of our curriculum will be core “Power of Reading” texts where much of the learning will come from the study of good quality children’s literature from a range of significant authors. Contained within our Curriculum Framework, will be clear guidance of how we as a school have addressed the change in national expectations and improved the educational experience for all children. The Progression of Skills section for each subject has been directly taken from the National Curriculum. Teachers will plan according to this Framework and be able to show that there is good curriculum coverage through the use of Long term plans (Curriculum maps and overview), Medium-term plans (Progression of skills), and Short term plans (Weekly Learning journey). When using this Curriculum framework, teachers will first write half-termly curriculum maps which will include “Power of Reading” key text being studied, genres of writing covered, and a brief overview of other subject content being taught in each year group to ensure an even distribution of subjects and topics. Using the progression of skills documents that contains knowledge and skills by year group for each subject, teachers will then drill down further to identify a sequence of lessons for each topic, key skills, and higher-order questions that will be used in the lessons. At St Teresa’s we recognize, not only the importance of helping students to flourish academically but also spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally, so they are fully prepared for life in British society and for their role as citizens, able to make the strongest possible contribution to the Common Good of all. We teach the importance of British Values by going much deeper into the meaning of what it means to live a good life, within a framework of Catholic Christian Values. This provides the context and meaning for understanding why British values are important. Our framework for understanding British values draws on the example of Jesus and his welcome and inclusion of all, which is developed in Catholic Social Teaching. At St Teresa’s we provide an education that focuses on the formation of the whole person and our vocation and purpose in life. The school has an excellent ‘Safeguarding policy’ that all employees and regular visitors to the school are shown upon entry. Safeguarding emergencies are rare, but the school’s robust systems ensure that all safeguarding matters are dealt with promptly and efficiently. The school proactively maintains an accurate list of adults with Disclosure Barring Service (DBS), called the Single Central Record. Regular visitors to the school (including parent helpers), workmen, and official visitors to the school are expected to bring in their DBS as well as a method of identification for recording before they enter the building. Staying safe online is incorporated into our curriculum. All children in school complete a series of seven lessons in the Autumn term that focus specifically on Online safety and their role in society as ‘Digital Citizens’. The theme of online safety permeates through all of our work on school computers. We hold annual Online Safety sessions for Parents run by Tim Fleisig our ICT technician. We know that children often require additional support that is ‘additional to’ and ‘different from other children in a class. Teaching staff at St. Teresa’s are committed to ensuring that learning is individualized ensuring that each child is motivated and challenged at their level. Although St Teresa’ s is a large primary school it maintains a ‘small school feel’ and teachers work hard to get to know children and families from the outset ensuring that they can meet a range of differing needs and learning styles., which aims to provide the child with special support to achieve measurable and realistic targets. Children who have a specific area of need are given an SEN Support Plan (SSP), which is reviewed throughout the year. Children, parents, and the school are very much part of this process. Sometimes children may work with a member of the teaching staff as part of a specific planned intervention. Where this happens parents will be fully informed. View full school
