A kindergarten is the very first school a child attends and hence we place a strong emphasis on our school atmosphere. St Teresa's Kindergarten uses "developmentally appropriate" teaching practices to suit both the needs and levels of the children. To put it simply, our teachers think first about what young children are like and then create an environment and experiences that are in tune with their characteristics.
Our teachers make learning relevant, interesting, and fun. Children in our kindergarten learn through individual, small group teaching, and whole-class activities. They are encouraged to Wonder, Think, Feel and Imagine. Our qualified and experienced Early Childhood teachers make use of thematic learning. The themes are related to daily life experiences, children's interests, and current happenings. The main emphasis is on the key learning areas of English, Early Mathematics, Science, Arts and Crafts, Music, Cooking, Health, Physical Education, and Personal Development.
Our classrooms are luxuriously large, airy, and bright with lots of natural light. Measuring 27 ft in length and 22 ft in breadth, each classroom has different "Activity Corners" where children can actively explore, play, work and move around freely. All classroom furniture and shelves are in bright, child-friendly colors. They have been specially tailor-made to appeal to children and ensure their safety. Storybooks, play equipment, and stationery are stored at a height convenient for children to easily access them.
Our kindergarten has its very own playground that is equipped with slides, swings, and other play equipment. Special rubber mats have been installed around all outdoor play equipment to ensure the safety of children and to prevent serious injury. In addition, whenever children use the playground they are supervised by the teachers.
The school will hold two meetings per year. These meetings will allow parents to speak directly with their child's teacher, and discuss their development throughout the school year thus far. It will also be a chance to ask questions or voice concerns directly to teachers.
The school will organize school outings periodically. A notification letter will be sent home with details of the planned excursion. Parents are welcome to assist and join us on these outings. However, such trips will be canceled at short notice should there be a change in the weather.
We encourage you to make an appointment with the class teacher to discuss your child's progress or any school-related problems. Parents are requested not to discuss such matters with the teacher when children are entering or leaving the school. To notify the school if your family has moved to a new address. It would help us contact you in an emergency.
Birthday parties can be held during school hours only. If you intend to celebrate your child's birthday at school, it is best to inform the class teacher at least a week in advance.
It is advisable to inform the school if your child needs special attention or if he/she is allergic to any medicine or food. If your child is sick, do be considerate and ensure that he/she has completely recovered and is past the infectious period before sending him/her to school. A doctor's certificate is needed if the child has suffered from any infection, such as mumps, chickenpox, measles, etc.
