  3. Sutherland High School, where it is our Vision for each child to reach their full potential. Our proud history and desire to be a relevant and meaningful place of learning to society inspire us to go the extra mile. Excellence in Academics, Sport, Culture, and Leadership Development are key and form part of holistic development. Sutherland High School is well known as a school of academic excellence, a fact of which we are extremely proud. Under the leadership of Mrs. Elinor du Preez, the Senior Academic Head, and Mrs. Yolande van der Merwe, the Junior Academic Head a team of Academic Empowerment Heads monitor and facilitate the progress of each learner across all the grades. Our strong team of Academic Empowerment Heads makes a significant contribution to academic progress by constantly monitoring learners’ performance and introducing a broad range of intervention strategies. In partnership with parents, class teachers, and the learners themselves, the grade heads work towards finding solutions to the challenges that learners face from time to time. Under their combined leadership, termly academic results are reviewed and analyzed to plot the way forward. In the Academic Support Centre, Mrs. Izelle Wood provides the necessary support to improve learner results. Here we cater for learners who require support in terms of dyslexia, dysgraphia, Asperger’s, autism, ADD, and other challenges. The commitment to excellence by all our academic staff and learners shows in all results across the board. A strong mind must be carried by a strong, healthy body. At Sutherland, we ensure that every learner has the opportunity to participate in a vast array of sporting activities. Under the able leadership of Mr. Abraham Brand, the sporting offering has developed into a brand portfolio. With an obvious passion for sport, Mr. Brand and his dedicated team have designed a structure that benefits every learner. High-Performance programs have been developed for the main sporting codes where experienced and well-trained coaches guide our athletes. Pre-and post-season training takes place throughout the year and many sporting fixtures are scheduled to challenge each team. We encourage every learner to participate in at least two sporting activities as we cater for the individuals, team players, those who focus on endurance, and those who focus on strength – all admirable aspects of the sporting life at Suthers. Sporting facilities and equipment are constantly reviewed and upgraded to allow our learners the best foundation. Currently, we are upgrading our swimming pool area and we have just recently installed flood-lighting at our Hockey astroturf. A well-rounded individual is someone who can develop intellectually, physically, and creatively. Our cultural team is well-equipped to offer every learner the opportunity to explore their creative potential. Our Head of Culture, Ms. Nicola Couling, has a passion for the arts. Under her meticulous guidance, a dedicated team of staff takes on a broad range of cultural activities throughout the year. Learners can participate in several activities namely Mr and Miss Sutherland where we have redefined the pageant platform. Redenaars, Public Speaking, and Debating. Cheerleading and being a member of our enthusiastic War-Cry Leaders. One-Act Plays, Theatre, and Musical productions. And many more various cultural portfolios. Each activity offers various challenges which help expand learners’ creativity.
  4. Thank you for showing an interest in Shire Christian School. Our school started from humble beginnings in 1977 in a church hall with under 20 students with a vision to partner parents in their children's Christian education. Since moving to our present site in Barden Ridge in 1981, our school has grown to over 800 students. We offer a preparatory program in the year before children start Kindergarten, known as Shire Prep. Shire Christian has a vibrant Junior School (Kindergarten to Year 6) and Secondary School (Year 7 to Year 12). The school logo uses the words a firm foundation to indicate that, from the time the school first started, we educate children believing that the Bible thoroughly equips us for every good work. Our school provides a Christian education where students are a part of regular devotions, study the Bible in Christian Studies classes, and have an opportunity to understand a Christian perspective on a range of topics they study. Our school's firm foundation is seeking to establish for each child also involves helping them develop core knowledge and skills that will be a foundation for future learning. For example, our Junior School emphasizes phonics to help ensure younger students develop strong literacy skills. We attribute our school's strong NAPLAN results to this approach. An excellent education seeks to equip students with a range of skills and attributes that will equip them for life's opportunities and challenges when they finish school. This is why the school has developed the 7Cs of a Shire Christian School education. Our Vision is to be Students equipped, in all their endeavors, to the Glory of God. Our Mission To provide a quality, affordable Christian education. To partner with like-minded Christian parents in their God-given duty and right to educate and train their children. To honor God through Christ-centred education founded on the Bible. We hold the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the infallible Word of God, consistent with the Reformed understanding of Biblical truth. We hold to Scripture alone, Christ alone, Grace alone, Faith alone, for the Glory of God alone.
