- ISS is a Senior secondary Co-educational school affiliated with CBSE New Delhi. The purpose of education is to enable all students to develop their intellectual, emotional, social, and physical potential to the fullest. The Indian School Sohar pursues academic excellence for students in the international community through an Indian-based education that develops ethical, responsible, and globally conscious life-long learners. At ISS child is a supreme gift of God. The philosophy is to educate children to attain excellence in all vistas of life. The objective of ISS is achieved by touching the hearts and transforming them into excellence. Our mission is to provide modern education yet retaining the traditional Indian essence. Indian School Sohar provides an environment in which every student discovers and realizes his full potential and maintains a sharp focus on the pursuit of knowledge and skills. With vibrating energy levels and penetrating foresight, we create self-awareness amongst children and help in capacity building. We are concerned about the overall health and wellbeing of learners encompassing their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions - we transform them. The school provides an education that is developmental and integrative leading to the nurturing of every pupil into a multi-competent person, and to a multifaceted development that enables the head, heart, and hands to become balanced parts of an organized whole. In the firm belief that "Good education is the high road to personal and national progress", the school aims at drawing out what is best in the child, through appropriate learning experiences and opportunities, a desire to learn, not just in the classroom, but all the time making it an on-going process through life. It strives to foster in the student a sense of values and an appreciation of his/her own culture, tradition, and heritage, as well as of what is good in other cultures. It aims to orient each individual towards a fuller life in the world as a free and mature adult, capable of assuming his/her responsibilities in society and motivated to contribute towards the community and the nation. Thus the student is expected to emerge as an individual, complete in character, with confidence in self and respect for others. The Indian School Sohar aims to be an institution of excellence, in academics, and holistic development character building of the children - catering to students with varied aptitude and potential-transforming them into real achievers. All progressive organizations are born from the dreams, creative ideas, and leadership of certain dedicated intellectual minds. Three decades back a group of Indian expatriates puts their heads together, to lay the foundation of an institute that could contribute towards education, development, and growth of the children of the Indian Society. But an educational institute is not just about bricks, mortar, and concrete rather it is about building character, enriching minds, and enriching experiences that last a lifetime. Into its thirtieth year, a trail of developments marks the significant changes that took place over the years in shaping up the school as it stands today- an educational edifice. With the belief that life is not only a set of instructions, it is rather a series of experiences and continual learning processes, the ISS takes upon itself to make the difference where learning is not just a series of instructions but a passion, which goes beyond books, beyond instructions, beyond learning horizons. We aim not only to impart quality education but also to groom our children into socially interactive, mentally agile, and empathetic individuals to enable them to develop their potential, without unreasonable stress. In the contemporary era of striving for excellence in every domain of life, success is synonymous with grit, perseverance, and faith in oneself. While the cognitive aspect is given prime attention in the school, the emotional and behavioral compatibility is not ignored. A proper balance is struck between an individual's achievement with that of one's roots and moral values, which, would enable every student to become a successful human being. Holistic education is our theme and we aim for a perfect synthesis of ancient and modern Indian and international traditional and innovatory. To achieve this we take care of attitudes, competencies, and skills, and the Focus is placed on making the students ambitious holistic individuals with sound character and well-groomed personalities- striving for Excellence. Oman, this land, has offered so much to its sons in the hopes that the day will come when these young minds work together to build this land's present and future. These aspiring souls are still alive and fueling on the far-reaching Omani history using the same limited but determined hands to secure their daily needs. These hands were put together to plow lands and channel water through steep mountains to spread life. The same hands grew palm trees to provide food and altered their worn parts into daily used tools. Students admitted into the foundation program of the colleges of Applied Sciences are required to sit for an English placement test at the beginning of the first semester, which is carried out in the Autumn Semester orientation week. The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree is a four year 128 credit hour program taught in English, designed to produce competent graduates in their major disciplines and IT in general graduates who are ready to be involved in developing the Omani industry. As the name "Colleges of Applied Sciences" suggests, our students are exposed to significant practical work and, where possible, linkages with the Omani industry are being developed and exploited. The BIT is offered in the CAS campuses of Sohar, Ibri, Rustaq, Sur, and Salalah. The BIT program contains a core of mainstream IT courses, which expose our graduates to the concepts and topics about which all who work in the IT field should be familiar. Typically, web design and development software design and implementation information systems analysis and design operating systems networks database IT security professional ethics and such analytical courses as discrete mathematics and data structures. IT is a fast-moving field; however, so space has been left in the program, which can be filled with the time's innovations, ensuring our graduates are aware of the latest IT trends. Presently the four majors of the BIT are Software Development, Data Management, IT Security, and Networks. The majors permit our students to explore their chosen field in greater depth with the addition of highly focused and specialized courses.
