The Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University was founded on September 14 (26) 1897 as the Medical Institute for Women. It was the first institution in Russia and Europe that provided women with higher medical education opportunities. The mission of the University is to ensure the high professional level of medical and scientific personnel, the formation of civil and moral qualities of the individual in the context of a global educational, scientific, and information society and the dynamically changing needs of the labor market via: Effective organization and high quality of educational and research processes Targeted acquisition and dissemination of knowledge Preservation of the moral, cultural, and scientific values of society and their augmenting for society. Our University is an educational institution with rich historical traditions and a recognized school of thought that offers a wide range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. It is also one of the highest-rated research medical centers. Founded in 1897 as the first Russian Medical Institute for Women, for more than 60 years, it was known worldwide as the First Leningrad I.P. Pavlov Medical Institute. The present name, St Petersburg State I.P. Pavlov Medical University, was given to our University in 1994 by the Government of the Russian Federation's decision. For all these years, the University has been promoting medical science and maintaining public health. We prepare highly qualified specialists to improve methods of diagnostics and treatment and to develop new medical technologies. The University contributes considerably to the development of Medical Sciences and Health Care Services in Russia. It is recognized in the World as an important center for training specialists in various medical areas. The University has excellent scientific - teaching potential and has good relations with many Medical Schools and Institutions in different countries.
