    Marist College

Marist College, recognized for excellence by U.S. News & World Report, Time, and "The Princeton Review," and by "Barron's Best Buys in College Education," is noted for its leadership in the use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. Founded in 1929, Marist's 210-acre campus overlooks the Hudson River in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and Albany, the state capital. What started as a school for the training of future Marist Brothers has developed into one of the leading colleges of the arts and sciences in the nation. Marist is ecumenical in character and reflects the ideals of the founder of the Marist Brothers, St. Marcellin Champagnat: commitment to excellence in education, a pursuit of higher human values, and dedication to the principle of service. Marist is dedicated to helping students develop the intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive lives in the global community of the 21st century. Marist College, recognized for excellence by The Princeton Review, U.S. News & World Report, Kiplinger's Personal Finance, Barron's Best Buys in College Education, and Entrepreneur, is a highly selective comprehensive liberal arts institution noted for its leadership in the use of technology in and out of the classroom. Founded in 1929, Marist overlooks the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York, midway between New York City and Albany, the state capital. Marist College respects the right of students to participate in civic and political activity. We want to enroll young people engaged with the world around them and care about significant societal challenges. When applicants are subject to discipline by their schools for any reason, we consider the full context on a case-by-case basis. Applicants to Marist will not be adversely affected by the mere fact of disciplinary action based on responsible participation in peaceful, lawful demonstrations or protests. Marist College offers students the power of a global university with a leading liberal arts college's personal touch.Founded in 1929, Marist's 210-acre campus overlooks the Hudson River in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and Albany, the state capital. Marist also has a branch campus in Florence, Italy, offering bachelor's and master's degrees and study abroad opportunities. Marist welcomes approximately 300 transfer students per year from two-year and four-year colleges in the United States and abroad. Transfer students consistently cite the strong sense of community, abundant abroad opportunities, and fluid academic boundaries that blend experiential learning, research, and traditional classroom instruction among their top reasons for choosing Marist. Transferring to Marist allows students to pursue their academic ambitions in an environment that will accommodate transfer students' unique needs. 20% of Marist undergrads transferred here – that is one in five students, and it speaks directly to the strong sense of community the College is recognized for. One of the main reasons Marist is ranked so highly by U.S. News, Princeton Review, and Barron's, among many others, is the undergraduate students. In particular, our transfers consistently prove to be the most academically driven, innovative, and self-aware students. Their prior college experience has helped them understand exactly what they want, and they have come to Marist to achieve it. Marist offers graduate degrees and advanced certificates designed with professionals in mind. Our programs focus on building skills, increasing earning potential, and strengthening your marketability. Marist College has a longstanding commitment to providing educational opportunities that accommodate the unique needs of working adults, including full-time and part-time options, 100% online and hybrid courses, and traditional classroom locations in Poughkeepsie, New York City, and Albany, as well as our branch campus in Florence, Italy. The Pre-College Program offers many engaging activities beyond the classroom to ensure you make the most out of your two weeks on campus. You will have opportunities to engage with faculty, visit New York City, socialize with fellow high school students, and explore the Hudson Valley. Marist welcomes international students interested in studying in the United States. International students find a pleasant, friendly attitude among the College's students, faculty, and administrators. Small classes encourage a personal and in-depth approach to learning, and the residential campus community fosters close friendships and active involvement in campus life. Just over a century ago, the Marist Brothers came to New York's Hudson River Valley to train young men to continue the Brothers' vocation as great educators. What started as a seminary for the training of future Marist Brothers has developed into one of the leading colleges of the arts and sciences in the country. Marist College is now home to approximately 4,900 traditional undergraduate men and women, 1,000 graduate students, and 400 adult students. In 1947, the first graduating class of modern-day Marist College consisted of four Marist Brothers. Today, more than 38,000 alumni and alumnae call Marist alma mater. Marist has a proud tradition that laid the foundation for a state-of-the-art campus for students preparing to enter the 21st-century workforce.Marist College follows in the tradition of great institutions like Harvard University and the College of William and Mary, founded as seminaries and developed into independent academies of higher learning.
  2. Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy provide its diverse student body a Catholic and internationally recognized college-preparatory experience of lasting value. We affirm our Marist mission to "Work with God to form Christian People, Upright Citizens, and Academic Scholars." At Notre Dame, our goal is to create a safe learning environment where students can become the best versions of themselves both academically and spiritually. We also offer world-ranked robotics teams, an exemplary athletic program, and a burgeoning performing and visual arts program. In short, we strive to create well-balanced students prepared for life. If you choose Notre Dame for your child's education, you are choosing a widely regarded school as one of the top Catholic schools in the nation. Notre Dame is the first Catholic school in the United States and the only Catholic school in Michigan to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme (IB) from junior kindergarten through 12th grade. Notre Dame is also a school that welcomes students of all backgrounds and faiths, as a diverse student body can create a much stronger sense of who we are as individuals and citizens of our world. When you choose Notre Dame, you are choosing to join a community of like-minded parents. Parents who believe that faith is an essential aspect of a child's development, and parents want their children's best. This helps to create a culture where it is "cool to be smart." While our academic reputation is second to none, parents must realize that your children do not have to be "all-A" students to fit in at Notre Dame. In addition to our honors, advanced placement (AP), and IB tracks, we offer a traditional academic track that also works well for many students. In March of 2017, we announced a 26,000 sq. ft. science arts and technology wing that will include eight classrooms, three science labs, two art studios, and a greenhouse. We believe that this investment into our students' academic experience will further cement Notre Dame as a leader among private, independent Catholic schools in the Midwest. Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy recognize that the principles of the Gospel and the Church's teaching are the educational norms upon which the Catholic school rests. We are to understand and witness the Christian Good News of humanity's redemption by the salvific work of Jesus Christ. The religious dimension of a young person's growth must be addressed in this Catholic Tradition context. Thus, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy assume the responsibility of developing a Christian conscience through an understanding and appreciation of Catholic doctrine, traditions, and practices. Catholic education views the student as a person redeemed by Christ and having a supernatural destiny. Therefore, Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy strive to create an atmosphere where the student's faith can grow and provide means and opportunities for participation in faith experiences. "It is God's children that are entrusted to us, and so it is towards God that we have to return their hearts by our constant efforts to provide them with sound rules for their guidance and examples lived in a manner consonant with them… We shall therefore work in the first place at giving them sufficient knowledge of their faith, at stirring their wills to the accomplishment of duty through motives of conscience and the power of religion." Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy believe it is essential for students to understand the great gift and great responsibility we have as citizens of the United States. We believe that we are increasingly part of a global society. It is essential to growing in the knowledge of and concern for all people and all of God's creation. Because of these beliefs, opportunities are offered to help the student understand the responsibility of leadership in a democratic society, exercise the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, and respect all individuals' dignity regardless of race, creed, sex, national or ethnic origin. Notre Dame Preparatory School and Marist Academy honor parents' right to educate their children in the schools of their choice. "Notre Dame believes that teaching students to advocate for justice is essential to their development as Christian Persons, Upright Citizens, and Academic Scholars. We believe members of our community should work to eliminate prejudice and be a voice for those pushed to society's fringes on the local, national, and global levels. Therefore, Notre Dame challenges our community members to battle discrimination against any person or group, including, but not limited to, discrimination based on age, creed, gender, race, national or ethnic origin, socio-economic status, or religion."
  3. Since Marist School’s founding in 1901, the Society of Mary has shared its educational mission with thousands of students and their families in the Atlanta area. Our mission is to form the whole person in the image of Christ through instruction grounded in religious values, the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the spirit of the Society of Mary. This mission is advanced through the communal pursuit of excellence in academic, religious, extracurricular, leadership, and service programs. Each day, our faculty and staff strive to embody this mission in educational service to the students entrusted to us. It is at the heart of everything we do, whether in the classroom, on the athletic fields, in the art studios, or on service projects both in the community and abroad. Through its association with the Society of Mary, the school is part of a unique global network. Marist schools can be found throughout North America as well as in Ireland, France, Germany, New Zealand, Peru, Senegal, Fiji, and Australia. As we dialogue with our sister schools overseas, these connections give Marist an international perspective in a society that is increasingly culturally diverse. The mission of Marist School is to form the whole person in the image of Christ through instruction grounded in religious values, the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the spirit of the Society of Mary. This mission is advanced through the communal pursuit of excellence in academic, religious, extracurricular, leadership, and service programs. The unique mission of Marist School to form the whole person in the image of Christ is created by blending three distinct traditions: the pursuit of academic excellence, the heritage of Catholic education, and the spirit of the Society of Mary. As an academic community, Marist School maintains excellence in teaching and high expectations for learning in an environment that values scholarship and achievement. Marist offers its students a curriculum that cultivates extensive knowledge and academic skills, intellectual acumen, formation of character, aesthetic appreciation, and physical well-being to prepare them for college studies, civic leadership, and the lifelong pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. As a Catholic school, Marist is guided by the educational mission and doctrinal teaching of the Catholic Church. Respecting religious diversity, Marist welcomes a significant number of students from other traditions. Through formal instruction, common worship, and religious activities, Marist assists students in forming their consciences by emphasizing the dignity and integrity of the individual, the primacy of transcendent values, and Jesus' call to love and serve others, especially the poor. As a Marist institution, Marist School is enlivened by the spirit of the Society of Mary. It strives to create a caring and concerned family to befriend and show confidence in young people while maintaining high expectations for their conduct to develop among students a close personal relationship with God and the habit of prayer to nurture a community that fosters hospitality, generosity, and responsible stewardship in students from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and to foster a concern for those who are often forgotten or neglected by society. Since 1901, Marist School has cherished these three traditions as the root and foundation of its mission. Now in its second century of service to Atlanta, Marist is dedicated to being faithful to its past while actively meeting the challenges of the future. Marist School seeks to foster a community of inclusion that respects the dignity of the individual in the areas of age, gender, religion, ability, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, culture, and sexual orientation. This obligation to build a community of inclusion is based on Sacred Scripture, the Teachings of the Catholic Church, and the spirit and traditions of the Society of Mary. All members of the Marist School community are responsible for advancing an understanding of and respect for diversity. Marist School seeks to offer excellent programs to students in three key areas: personal and spiritual development, academics, and activities. Students take a challenging course of studies, and most also find time for participating in extra-curricular and religious activities. The school believes its lasting contribution lies in "forming the whole person in the image of Christ.” The goal of Marist's curriculum is to challenge each student to reach his/her academic potential. Teachers provide instruction in a variety of modalities to reach different learning styles to prepare students to be successful in college and life thereafter. We hope to produce independent, life-long learners who will be able to manage and make use of the information explosion that the twenty-first century will bring.
  4. Marist Brothers International School (MBIS) is committed to excellence in education. Over the past 60 years, our students have consistently gone on to attend the top universities and colleges around the world. We believe that education goes beyond a rigorous and stimulating curriculum. Our holistic approach includes a focused dedication to character–developing skills that make our students stand out from the crowd. This is a fundamental component of the Marist ‘difference’. Located in a quiet residential area, between Kobe’s green hills and the nearby sea, MBIS has close access (a two-minute walk) to two major rail lines and is only ten minutes from downtown Kobe. Our teachers are fully certified and highly experienced. Many of our staff have been with the school for long tenures, reflecting the quality of the school and their dedication to our students. Their inspired, student-centered teaching is complemented by low student-teacher ratios – ensuring that every student has access to intensive support. Although MBIS is founded on Roman Catholic religious principles, we welcome all students, regardless of religion, race, or nationality. We believe our community is our strength and hope that you can join us and experience the Marist difference. The Marist Brothers, a religious congregation of Catholic educators, was founded in 1817 by Saint Marcellin Champagnat. The Marist Brothers, now a large congregation, have founded and administered hundreds of schools around the world. Among such schools are Marist Brothers International School (MBIS) in Kobe and Marist High School in Kumamoto. MBIS was founded in 1951 by Brother Charles Fojoucyk and Brother Stephen Weber. They had been forced to leave St. Louis International School in Tientsin, China, because of pressure from communist authorities. MBIS is a coeducational school based on Roman Catholic values, providing a complete elementary and secondary education. The school emphasizes its Catholic character through its religious studies courses, by daily reflection, and by the observance of the liturgical seasons of the Church year. Throughout their history and in countries around the world, Marist Brothers’ schools have taken as an important aim the development and cultivation of family spirit as a principle trait of school life. MBIS follows the education standards of the State of California however, its curriculum is sufficiently broad that graduates successfully attend universities in countries around the world. Marist Brothers International School will make students our utmost priority and encourage them to achieve their full potential, fostering spiritual growth, appreciation of cultural diversity, and develop a life-long love of learning. We will provide the opportunity for all stakeholders to develop a sense of community, spirit, and pride in our school. We educate students in a nurturing environment based on Catholic values and the traditions of the Marist Brothers. We provide a rigorous program of study that prepares our students for higher education, internationally and in Japan. Our students will gain knowledge, be effective communicators, develop good character and become responsible citizens of a global society. Marist Brothers International School is a modern educational institution with features that include: playgrounds, art studios, modern computer laboratories, a gymnasium, a well-stocked library, a fully-equipped music department, science laboratories, and a cafeteria. The MBIS Montessori Preschool program is made up of children aged 3-5. Classrooms are specifically designed for children. The mixed-aged children share the same classroom and learn from each other. Younger children get a chance to look ahead and see what is coming next by watching the older children. Older children have the opportunity to reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with the younger children. The program gives children the opportunity to explore and discover various areas of the classroom including practical life, sensorial learning, and mathematics. A strong focus is placed on English language development through phonics, whole language building, and group circle times conducted throughout the day. Children are enriched through science, culture, geography, and art activities. They learn to respect others’ work and space, excuse themselves, greet each other, and treat each other fairly. They also take an active role in maintaining their classroom. The Elementary School (Grades 1 to 6) at Marist Brothers International School focuses on developing the whole child. At its core is an academic program emphasizing reading, writing, and mathematical skills, along with comprehensive units of Social Studies and Science. Science classes utilize our fully equipped laboratories. Our curriculum is based on the California State Standards, adapted to suit the needs of our diverse, multicultural student body. The core curriculum is complemented with regular classes of Art, Computer Studies, Religious Education, Music, Japanese, Library, Health, and Physical Education. Upper School students are challenged at each grade level with a range of courses, including Language Arts (English), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Languages, Religious Studies, and Physical Education. Elective classes include Art, Music, Symphonic Band, Business, Japanese History, Marketing, Law, Digital Design, and Photography. 5. Marist College Canberra is a Year 4 - 12 Catholic learning community for boys. It is founded in the Marist tradition of St Marcellin Champagnat, and our core values derive from our understanding of the gospels and Marist characteristics. We are a school that nurtures and strengthens our students as they are transformed into better and more compassionate people. We invite young people to engage in an education that sets high expectations and uncompromising standards. In the process, we give them a chance to test themselves against the best they think they can be, grow in the Catholic faith ' faith's knowledge, develop a loving relationship with Jesus Christ, and build a Christian community. As a Marist community, we endeavor to encourage and develop the Marist spirit and camaraderie in our boys, as outlined in our Core Values. We often hear ex-students speak of how proud they are "to be Marist," It supports our ethos that the Marist charism can become real for our boys. The origins of Marist College Canberra are to be found at the Rocks in Sydney. In 1875, only three years after the foundation of the first Marist school in Australia, the Brothers began a Select School or High School with Brother Augustine McDonald as its first Principal. Such a school was quite an innovation for those days when having even primary schooling made one well educated. Our Mission is to run an exceptional Catholic school for boys in the Marist tradition, where the Good News of Jesus Christ is proclaimed and where faith, educational excellence, and the call to justice are reconciled and lived. In partnership with the families of its students, this College aims to build on the initial formative influence of the family in the lifelong process of Christian education. Our Vision is to create a school that nurtures and strengthens our students as they are transformed into better and more compassionate people. We invite young people to engage in an education that sets high expectations and uncompromising standards. In the process, we give them a chance to test themselves against the best they think they can be, grow in the Catholic faith's knowledge, develop a loving relationship with Jesus Christ, and build a Christian community.
  6. The Marist Brothers officially founded Marist College Ashgrove as a day and boarding College on 17 March 1940. As a Catholic school, owned and conducted by the Marist Brothers, the College is maintained through the Catholic community's efforts whose sons it serves. Preference in terms of enrollment is given to young men from Catholic families who retain their contact with and support the Catholic community in their local parish. The College comprises 1688 students from Years 5 to 12, 170 of whom are boarders. There are currently 1417 secondary students and 271 primary students enrolled. The College motto, "Viriliter Age – Act Courageously," challenges each person to envision a more just and compassionate world. The College provides wide-ranging programs encompassing academic achievement, the visual and performing arts, sporting success, and service projects. The College's ethos and mission are significantly influenced by the charism of the founder of the Marist Brothers, Saint Marcellin Champagnat. From their beginnings in rural France in 1817, Marist schools reflect many of the qualities of Marcellin himself: they are places where hard work and excellent achievement are valued, places where the individual is genuinely loved and prized, where a strong family spirit is evident, places characterized by a lack of pretense, places of simplicity and calm determination. The schools have the Gospel at their heart, encouraging students to respond to it with the same faith and generosity that Mary did. Marist College Ashgrove stands proudly as a Marist school living in the footsteps of Saint Marcellin Champagnat. At Marist College Ashgrove, we are proud of the dedicated educators, Brothers, and laypeople who work with parents to help grow boys into young men. Since 1940, when the College was founded by the Marist Brothers, as a day and boarding school, our community has sought to build young men who, like St Marcellin Champagnat, are "good Christians and good people" equipped with faith, generosity, and a willingness to make Jesus known and loved. St Marcellin was characterized as a man who possessed a healthy mind and a gentle heart. He displayed compassion towards young people and sought to inspire hope in a troubled world. Today, these qualities of compassion and leadership are equally as important. At Marist College Ashgrove, we understand that we are shaping the lives of the young men in our care, seeking to create compassionate and capable leaders of the future. At Marist, we associate ourselves, in all that we do, with Mary to bring Jesus to life in the hearts of young people: "All to Jesus through Mary. All to Mary for Jesus". We challenge young men to live lives where Marist values are lived, not just spoken. We believe that the holistic educational environment offered to Marist College Ashgrove students is more than just a classroom experience. We strive to meet all our students and their families' needs by creating an environment that inspires spiritual, academic, cultural, and sporting excellence. At Marist College Ashgrove, we recognize the difficult decisions parents need to make regarding whom they entrust with the important responsibility of nurturing, growing, protecting, and educating their sons. One of the best ways for parents to choose the next step in their boys' educational journey is to experience the spiritual and learning environments and the energy within a school. In this spirit, we invite you to come and see what makes our College so unique and to join me on a tour of our wonderful campus. You will see first-hand how we strive to work with parents and the community to build confident and capable young men of strong character with gentle hearts and with a willingness to make a positive contribution to our church and our world. We are a faith community based on the life of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church's beliefs and practices. As was Champagnat's, our vocation is to make Jesus known and loved. We draw on the inspiration of St Marcellin and the Marist characteristics of family spirit, presence, simplicity, love of work, and being in the way of Mary. Our students are encouraged to demonstrate good scholarship, a love of learning, independence in thought and action, and the readiness to take responsibility for their formation. Our Marist values of simplicity, presence, love of hard work, family spirit, and being in the way of Mary guide the whole College community every day. A dedicated staff of Brothers and lay people work hard to ensure each boy has the opportunity to become the best person he can be. Members of the College family act courageously and stand in solidarity, committed to creating a more just world.

Therefore, Notre Dame challenges our community members to battle discrimination against any person or group, including, but not limited to, discrimination based on age, creed, gender, race, national or ethnic origin, socio-economic status, or religion." Since Marist School’s founding in 1901, the Society of Mary has shared its educational mission with thousands of students and their families in the Atlanta area. View full school

  13. 14. View full school
