- Our school began in 1955 as a small elementary school committed to developing the individual potential within each child entrusted to our care. Because of our unwavering dedication to doing what is best for our students, that small elementary school has grown to become the premier pre-K through 12th-grade school in Central Alabama. Our teachers provide the strongest and most complete college preparatory curriculum within a caring and supportive learning community. Our commitment to caring for and inspiring the best in each Saint James student has guided us for 60 years, and that will continue to illuminate our path as we look ahead to the future. Without question, the most valuable years of education and formation for a student are the years that he or she learns, grows, and develops between pre-Kindergarten and 12th grade. In those critical formative years, a child develops and grows into a young adult. By the time that student heads to college, the foundation that he or she possesses will largely determine the trajectory of the rest of his or her life. In their years at Saint James, our students are mentored to discover their talents, while sharpening their intellectual abilities and forming their character. Saint James graduates possess a sure foundation and are well equipped to go out into the world and make the most of the opportunities and challenges lying ahead. We welcome you to come to visit Saint James and meet our students and teachers. As you walk across our beautiful collegiate-style campus and pass through the halls where students and teachers are engaged in a vibrant learning community, you will see why Saint James School has been recognized as the top private school in Montgomery, Alabama. Saint James is an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory school with a student body broadly representative of college-bound students. We are committed to challenging and assisting students in realizing their potential and preparing them for lives of responsibility, service, and achievement. At Saint James School, we believe: Education is the catalyst for success in a child's life. Every child can learn. Every child should be treated with respect and dignity. The school recognizes the individuality of each student and appreciates his or her unique assets, attributes, skills, interests, and needs. Students have different learning styles that can be met through different modes of teaching. Students should be stretched academically to grow intellectually and be prepared for college and leadership roles in the future. Our educational program provides students with opportunities to develop maturity, self-confidence, skills, and knowledge preparing them to attain their highest level of individual potential. Saint James School promotes the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and cultural development of our students. Our instructional program must reflect the changing social, economic, political, and technological environments in which the students live. Every discipline has a body of knowledge that must be taught and skills that must be mastered. Cultural diversity is an important goal for Saint James School. The arts and physical education should be a part of every child's education. School should be a safe place and provide a sense of security. The facilities should be well maintained and clean. Education is a partnership between the home and school. Parents should support the mission of the school and provide a structured environment at home so their children can prosper. Parental input regarding our education and extracurricular programs is welcomed. Communication between the school, students, and parents are of utmost importance. Saint James School was founded on the Judeo-Christian ethic of love and responsibility for others within an ethnically diverse, nonsectarian environment. Every child's religious tradition should be respected. Children should develop a value system including honesty, caring, loyalty, and service. The school should be characterized by a community service ethic and opportunities for community service should be available at all levels. Saint James School admits students of any race, religion, color, gender, creed, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the school. Our Saint James School Ambassadors are a highly motivated and energetic group of outstanding high school students who serve as school representatives and liaisons to enrolled and prospective families. Our Student Ambassadors enjoy meeting new people while serving in their leadership roles on campus. The Ambassadors work with the STJ administration, faculty, and students promoting our mission, programs, and activities. These exceptional students have a strong work ethic, natural leadership abilities, and serve as role models to our prospective students. View full school

We are a modern culturally diverse comprehensive High School, educating pupils aged 11 to 18 years of age. Our students describe us as a great school and a happy place to be part of. In November 2015 we were named in the Sunday Times Good Schools Guide as State School of the Year (2015) for Scotland. In addition to having an outstanding academic record, our school prides itself on the varied and extensive extra-curricular program of activities on offer. All our pupils are fully supported by a dedicated and committed staff who strive to ensure that all pupils realize their potential. We provide Gaelic Medium Education for students from S1 to S6. Our aim at Gillespie’s is to encourage each student to be self-confident, inquiring, tolerant, positive, well-rounded, independent and an individual who respects and appreciates the value of growing up in a culturally diverse and enriched world. By the time he/she leaves the school, we want each student to have that true sense of self-worth that will enable him/her to add value to society. Our ethos is excellent and frequently praised. The learning and teaching approaches are varied and student-centered. The school is open to change but as a reflective learning organization, we do not embrace innovation without careful thought. Our vision is to provide a curriculum that enables all learners at James Gillespie’s High School to achieve their potential. We aim for excellence in learning and teaching and expect all learners to be actively engaged in their learning. We recognize that learning is a lifelong process and is one to which we, as a school community, make a significant and lasting contribution. As well as an outstanding academic record, we are proud of all the extra-curricular programs of activities on offer. Gillespie’s has a particularly strong tradition in music and the performing arts and we besides provide Gaelic-Medium Education from First Year onwards. Our aim at Gillespie’s is to encourage each student to be self-confident, inquiring, tolerant, positive, well-rounded, independent – young men and women who will understand and cherish a rich and varied world. In an atmosphere of diligence, tolerance, and mutual respect, we aim to send forth secure, confident students – new citizens ready and able to enrich our society. Religious and Moral Education classes are non-denominational and study a wide range of world religions and personal beliefs. In later years our pupils have an opportunity to discuss topical subjects such as racism or multi-cultural issues. Classes are compulsory but parents do have a statutory right to withdraw their child and should write to the Head Teacher giving their reason. There is a range of extracurricular activities available for pupils during lunchtime and after school. Parents will be informed about these by the school. In addition to in-school activities, classes also make varied and regular educational visits and field studies. These visits are linked to pupils’ classwork. In all this, we are supported not just by our dedicated staff – striving every day to help every pupil reach their potential – but in an ongoing partnership with our parents, carers, and the local community. - James Dixon Primary School is a vibrant, diverse, caring, and happy community. We embrace the diversity of our school community and feel privileged to be part of a multicultural school community. Everyone is committed to providing the best learning opportunities for our pupils. We provide opportunities for children to strengthen their independent learning, the ability to accept the challenge, and to believe in themselves. At James Dixon we recognize the benefits and positive impact that Learning Outside the Classroom and The Arts have on our pupils and are committed to ensuring that they have real and memorable experiences which enable them to have fun, experience personal success, feel challenged, and become productive citizens who take pride in their school community, local community and will grow to understand their roles and responsibilities as global citizens. We value respect, cooperation, resilience, and honesty. During their time at James Dixon, pupils are encouraged to work towards their personal goals through our broad, exciting, and original curriculum. We aspire to be a school that is at the heart of the community. We aim to maintain our excellent lines of communication and relationship with parents and extend this to positive relationships with local businesses. We have a constant drive to maintain and improve standards whilst giving our children moments and experiences they will never forget through our Creative Curriculum and dedication to The Arts. We have recently been awarded the new Arts Mark accreditation and we are dedicated to developing our Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC). We have Children’s University status which is further evidence of our commitment towards providing innovative and exciting learning experiences. We currently have a Specialist Provision class for children with complex learning needs. We aim to continue the success of this provision. Our Creative Curriculum has been developed over several years. We take a joined-up approach to learning and teaching which means that subjects are linked by a theme. Year group classrooms are physically close to each other and arrangements are made for teachers to plan in year groups so that all classes are getting the same quality first teaching. Nurturing Confident, Caring, and Curious children is what we do at James Dixon School Nursery. We consider every 'little person to be a beautiful, independent, fascinating, creative individual with a huge amount to offer the world. At James Dixon, we understand that the importance of the early years in a child's general development cannot be over-emphasized. Any experience which caters to the needs of the children, before they reach statutory school age, establishes the foundations of future learning in many areas of human experience. There are four main needs of a child in the pre-school years: The need for love and security The need for new experiences The need for praise and recognition The need for a framework of responsible behavior We want every child to leave us feeling that they have been given opportunities to be successful in as many areas as possible. By taking learning outside the classroom we strive to give them first-hand experiences, to develop children’s self-confidence, sense of curiosity, and to inspire them to take risks and equip them with the language and actions to develop quality relationships with others. We have a thriving ‘Garden Gang’ who maintains our school gardens. Each Year group grows fruit or vegetables and we now have a regular stall at Crystal Palace Food Market. We use our grounds to host many community events for example last April we organized a circus that was open to the local community. View full school
- Our motto is Believe to Achieve for a Brighter tomorrow. We encourage our children to achieve the best that they are capable of, whilst also ensuring that they feel happy and safe in their school environment. We are very proud of our uniform and how smart our children are and would like to thank you for your help in this. Our Ofsted in June 2015 found our pupils to have a positive attitude to learning, and are respectful, well mannered, and have a strong appreciation of what is right and wrong. The strong leadership was recognized by Ofsted and we continue alongside the Governing Body to improve further. These outcomes cannot be achieved without high expectations about behavior and in particular learning behaviors. We have a strict Behaviour Policy that rewards children as well as clear sanctions for poor behavior. At James Cambell Primary School we recognize that all pupils have access to a broad range of learning experiences that allow them to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes necessary for their self-fulfillment and to enable them to play a full part as responsible citizens in the 21st Century. The curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve, irrespective of social background, culture, race, gender, differences in ability, and disabilities. We aim to provide skills of literacy, numeracy, and computing, helping them to develop enquiring minds and the ability to think rationally. The curriculum also promotes pupils' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and supports them in developing principles for distinguishing between right and wrong. Pupils are encouraged to think creatively and critically and to respect others and the environments in which they live. The curriculum enables pupils to develop their physical skills and promotes their personal and social well-being. We believe that the curriculum should stimulate enjoyment of, and commitment to, learning as a means of encouraging the best possible progress and the highest attainment for all pupils, preparing them for effectively the next steps in their education. At James Cambell Primary we use letters and sounds as our preferred way of delivering high-quality teaching of synthetic phonics. We use Rigby, Collins Big Cats and Bug Club for our reading scheme which is introduced in Reception and continues to Year 6.We expect that all pupils will read at home whether it is using the scheme provided or other interest books and ask that parents sign their child's reading log and provide feedback. Books are changed at least once a week but can be changed more frequently if requested by the parent. At James Cambell, we have 2 Parent Support Advisors to work with parents of children attending the school. In the KS1 building, we have Saffron Lempriere and in the KS2 building, we have Richard Pile. A Parent Support Advisor is a free, CONFIDENTIAL service that the school offers. Parenting is a rewarding and challenging job, and there are times when parents and carers need support. Regular school attendance is vital to help children achieve and get the best possible start in life. Children who frequently miss school often fall behind. There is a strong link between good school attendance and achieving good results. Young people who are frequently absent from school are more likely to become involved in or be a victim of crime and anti-social behavior. Support can be in many forms and is as individual as your children - from sibling rivalry, behavior, accessing services in the Borough, help with sleeping habits, and furthering your own or your child's education. We offer trust and impartiality and a quiet place to chat. We will work in partnership with you, respecting your wishes, allowing you to parent your children. Cambell Primary Centre is a time-limited, additionally resourced provision (ARP) of The James Cambell Primary School. We work with children and families across Barking and Dagenham. We are a service for children with significant and enduring Social, Emotional & Mental Health Difficulties, who are not meeting their full potential in school because their behavior or emotional state is stopping them from learning. We work in partnership with each child's mainstream school with an aim to eventual re-integration, usually after two to three terms. Trewern is a residential center, set in spacious grounds, situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in the Welsh border town of Hay-on-Wye, (internationally famous for its book shops). The Centre is owned by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is staffed by qualified teachers with specialist knowledge and a wealth of experience teaching outdoor education and field studies. Trewern can accommodate groups of up to 54 students in shared bedrooms. Facilities include a dining room, lounge, staff room, coin-operated laundry facilities, showers, kit rooms, drying room, kitchen, classroom, games room, conference room, dormitories. View full school

- We would like to extend a very warm and sincere welcome to our school, where our greatest asset is the wonderful children who make our learning community such a special place to be. As a Catholic school we place our faith at the center of all that we do and with this in mind we aspire to provide the very best education that we can for the children. We believe that by working together in a genuine partnership of school, family, and parish that we can help our children reach their full potential. St. James the Great is a Catholic primary school in partnership with the home and parish we aim to develop and strengthen the faith of each individual by living according to Christian values. We aim to educate our children to enable them to reach their full potential, spiritually, academically, and socially so that their lives are brought to fulfillment in God. When children leave our school they should: Have learned the skills and knowledge required in the National Curriculum to the best of their ability. Have developed a lively, enquiring mind and the ability to question and discuss rationally. Be able to successfully progress to secondary education. Christianity is the cornerstone upon which our school is built. We aim to achieve a caring and stable Catholic community, based on the teachings of the Gospel, in which all children are seen to be valued. We aim to help our children understand the world we live in and to develop respect for religious and moral values and understanding of other races, religions, and ways of life. Equality of opportunity is at the core of our Catholic school values. The Language guidelines aim to encourage an enjoyable and enthusiastic development of speaking, listening, reading, and writing for every child. There is a school library available to the children at all times. Religion is a relationship, a relationship of love between the child and other people, in a community of thankful witnesses to the love of God. Religious Education fosters this relationship through daily prayer, Acts of Worship, and Celebrations of Liturgy. The RE Curriculum is taught through the ‘Come & See’ Scheme’, but a much wider religious education is offered through the child’s experience of our school life and community. The program is both ‘objective’ and ‘subjective’. It presents a systematic presentation of the Christian event, message, and way of life, in contexts appropriate to the age and stage of development of each child. Mathematics is one of the core subjects of our school curriculum. Much emphasis is put on the acquisition of sound concepts in numbers, all forms of measurement (length, weight, area, volume, capacity, time, and shape). To achieve this aim the children are given plenty of practical experience and are encouraged to discuss their observations and to consider further possibilities. They also learn to record their work – as sums, like graphs and using appropriate units. Their knowledge and understanding, at every level, is continually challenged by problem-solving and investigational work. Art Education enables children to use, understand and enjoy visual forms of communication. At St James The Great, we believe that P.E. is an essential part of the curriculum. It provides an ideal opportunity for children to develop their personal, co-operative and social skills, as well as helping children to become, and stay, healthy and active. P. E. at St James The Great consists of gymnastics, games, athletics, outdoor activities, swimming, and dance. At St. James the Great Catholic Primary School we actively promote Christian values, virtues, and ethics that shape our children’s character and moral perspective based on the Gospel values and teaching of the Catholic Church. We take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. The children’s strong rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform to embrace difference and grow into being positive, responsible contributors to modern British society. The children at St. James the Great see democracy borne out in a whole variety of ways and as an essential component of successful team working. Democracy is a school value that children meet when discussing respect and fairness. It is lived out in many aspects of class decision-making as a fair means of gathering agreement. The school's involvement in the Peckham Citizens organization is a very tangible example of the children's voices being heard to affect real change in our local area. View full school

- Our school is a church school where our Christian values underpin much of our work and aspirations both for the children and the whole school community. Our standards of work and behavior are high and we seek to nurture children socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically. We’re not complacent and try to lead the way for our children and listen and reflect on the effectiveness of what we do and how we do it. We strive to improve our performance and encourage children to do the same. The world of education is changing significantly and children need to be equipped to develop key, relevant life skills. We welcome discussion and agreement with parents about how to assist our children and know that effective school-parent partnerships are crucial for their progress and well-being. As a Christian school, our Christian values are at the core of all we do. These are wisdom, thankfulness, humility, endurance, service, compassion, trust, peace, forgiveness, reverence, friendship, justice, hope, and creation. To help learn about these values, each class study and are champions of two values which they look at in-depth and share with others at school through our assemblies. At St James Primary School we promote ‘British Values’ through our spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education and distinctly Christian ethos, which permeates through the schools’ curriculum and supports the development of the ‘whole child. We recognize that such development is most successful when those values and attitudes are promoted by all the staff and provide a model of behavior for our pupils. During their time at St James, children are helped to learn to manage their behavior and take responsibility for their actions. They are taught the value and the reason behind the laws that govern and protect us. We promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs and we do this by providing sensible boundaries within which our children make informed choices through a supportive and safe environment. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedom, and adults within the school community are proactive in building trusting and respectful relationships with the children to boost their self-esteem and to enable them to make good, confident choices. We are lucky to be a school in the capital of Britain with all the advantages that London has to offer with its cultural and religious diversity. Mutual respect is at the heart of our ethos - respect for individuals, for belongings, for our behavior is a theme that is closely linked to many of our Christian values. We believe in every child’s inclusion, where possible, in a range of activities and settings and locations and we are committed to introducing our children to their wider community beyond the school gates. Our Christian worship helps all pupils to find out about themselves and others linking their lives to the communities in which they belong. Through our assemblies and RE and PSHE lessons as we regularly learn about our Christian values of friendship, compassion, trust, and thankfulness, and these link closely with this idea. Our children follow a broad curriculum based on the revised National Curriculum (2014), and other learning experiences, which aim to develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding of the world and which is a foundation for lifelong learning. We believe all children are entitled to access this curriculum and to learn and develop at an appropriate pace. We seek to educate the whole child in a Christian environment. We encourage our children's physical, moral and social development and want them to be successful learners, confident individuals, and responsible citizens both now and in the future. St James School maintains a close relationship with St James Church, offering us a great opportunity to provide an education firmly founded on Christ and Christian values. As part of the daily act of collective worship, once a week a team from the St James Church Children's Ministry leads an assembly to teach the gospel and to help the children explore and implement the principles of the Christian faith in their daily lives. To enhance worship, the children are taught a variety of songs and participate in very creative, fun, Bible-based discussions. We also teach a rich curriculum incorporating History, Geography, Art and Design, Languages, Music and Personal, Health & Social Education (PHSE). Teachers plan topics of work for each year group from the national curriculum. We supplement our provision each term with events to broader experiences of the children including Do Something Different Day, philosophy for children, Science week, and Hoola hoop day to name but a few. Our children take part in a wide variety of school trips, usually once or twice termly to support their learning. Recent trips have included the Olympic Park, Science Museum, Hackney Empire, Natural History Museum, the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace, the Arts Depot, and the Butterfly House in Golders Hill Park. We also have outside agencies come into the school to run workshops for children in drama, art, music, and science and we undertake local fieldwork in Highgate Woods and Muswell Hill. The building has been updated, playgrounds improved and classrooms refurbished so that the crucial work of educating our children to the highest standards can continue in the tradition established when the school first opened its doors in 1850. Our children are natural scientists and are keen to explore, enquire and understand the world around them. Within the National Curriculum framework, we investigate life processes, materials, physical processes and concentrate on developing children's scientific skills, encouraging them to question, investigate and test appropriately. - Malvern St James Girls' School is a leading independent school for pupils aged 4-18. What helps to make us distinct and refreshing, is our recognition and active support for the individual talents, interests, and passions of girls, and the liberating and inclusive ethos the school embraces. Malvern St James doesn’t produce a ‘type’ of girl. We achieve excellent academic results, but we are not an exam factory. Our ethos is one of inclusion and respect. Girls can pursue their passions and interests in the field of their choice – all routes are equal. It may be horse riding, engineering, politics, the environment, or climbing. We recognize the importance of allowing each individual to grow and flourish. We find ways to support girls to achieve their passions. Girls can be anything they want to be, whether that is a high flying academic, a passionate sportswoman, or both! They are not defined by what they can achieve but because of the support Malvern St James offers and the personal development we nurture in girls, they can go on to achieve everything they want. We nurture freedom of spirit, respect for others, and support of every member of our school community. Our staff are innovative and passionate about their work and constantly evolve new ways to inspire learning and exploration of their subjects, often beyond the curriculum. We actively encourage debate and open discussion. We explore the world around us, at home and across the globe. We believe in maintaining truth and transparency as a school community. Malvern St James is a refreshing and inspiring school for girls. A school that helps girls to truly develop their thinking skills, to explore who they are, and to develop the courage and self-belief to go out into the world and be true to who they are. Our Belief in Growth MindsetIt is not normal nor realistic to be brilliant at everything all the time, and our failures inform future success. No wonder one of the first questions that often gets asked in job interviews is: tell me something that you did that didn’t go well and what did you learn from it? We are passionate believers in the importance of having a ‘growth mindset’ and viewing intelligence as elastic rather than fixed. This is one of the reasons why we put such a store on girls taking intellectual and creative risks, together with positive feedback and encouraging participation. Most importantly, they learn that it’s okay to fail. This way they are more likely to take intellectual and creative risks, learn from mistakes and enjoy the ride, which means working harder and going further. We encourage our girls to be ambitious, to follow their passions, and to be confident: and to appreciate the value of hard work and determination. We want to show girls the full spectrum of interests that contribute to a balanced and happy life and demonstrate the joy of finding something they love and pursuing it. View full school

- Chilton Saint James School is a world-class private girls’ day school through years 1 to 13. The campus sits on Waterloo Road in Lower Hutt – a quick 15 minutes from downtown Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city. We also operate a co-educational Preschool at our campus on Waterloo Road. Established in 1918, Chilton is a private school, affiliated with the Anglican Church. We welcome students from all faiths and aim to teach respect for one another’s religious traditions. Chilton Saint James is a remarkable school set up by a very remarkable woman, Geraldine FitzGerald. A woman of vigor, talent, and single-minded vision, she made sure that her pupils had the richness of experience they needed to thrive in this pioneering country. The world has changed a lot since our foundation, but our approach remains the same. We do not offer a stifling education. Life at Chilton is a broad, rich, and diverse set of stimulating experiences. We fuse the best in academic achievement with the best in creative and active physical expression. Our goal is to create that most elusive and valuable of commodities in today’s challenging world: creativity. Chilton Saint James School was founded in 1918 by Miss Geraldine FitzGerald. Lower Hutt was chosen as the wartime location as it was considered a safer environment than Wellington's exposed city center. The suburban campus has ideal facilities with expansive playing fields, an outdoor swimming pool, and growth space for future development of facilities. Our campus is laid out across various periods and modern buildings, all of which are named after important people in our history. The latest addition is 2010, the Greenwood Building was opened by the Honourable John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and the Right Reverend Dr. Thomas Brown, Bishop of Wellington. The building is itself named after Elizabeth Greenwood, a friend of Miss FitzGerald and a leading figure in fundraising for the School’s establishment. The learning hub for the whole school and used by all students from Preschool to year 13, in the library. This is situated in the Greenwood Building and is named after Nesta Mason, the second Principal of Chilton. Another focal point of the School is the Jubilee Centre, built in our 75th (Jubilee) year and housing a large multi-purpose gymnasium space used for teaching Physical Education and other uses such as concerts, shows, sports matches, and assemblies, combined with a theatre used for dance and drama classes. Preschool at Chilton offers the first formal step to becoming remarkable as a life-long learner. The Chilton Preschool challenges and nurtures the pre-literate child and provides a strong foundation for future success at school. We welcome boys and girls, aged 2, 3, and 4 into our Preschool programs. The Preschool has a wonderful reputation in the community because of the focused and nurturing approach of our attentive and caring staff with excellent teacher-to-child ratios. Our dedicated and qualified teachers provide the right balance of structured and free play plus specialist classes which include Music, Dance, and Physical Education. Nestled in the Junior School, our Preschool enjoys modern purpose-designed facilities with two age-appropriate preschool playgrounds. The Preschool is integrated with the Chilton Junior School, which provides a seamless transition for girls entering the next important step in their education at age 5. Children of 2 years are at a turning point in their lives, they are embarking on the road toward separation and independence. In their struggle for autonomy, these children are eager to assert a mind of their own, to have their own say. They yearn to be individuals. They are just learning to use their language, to express strong feelings, often revealing this through their actions. If children are to become autonomous and competent they must develop a clear sense of self. The foundation is laid during their toddler years. Only then can children develop traits such as self-motivation, pride, self-respect, and accountability. Our program for 2 – 3-year-olds enables our children to experience thinking, learning, social and emotional changes whilst exploring and making sense of the world around them. We link our observations and learning stories to Te Whāriki, the IB (PYP) program, and the Chilton Preschool curriculum. The curriculum for 3 and 4-year-olds is based on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) using Te Whāriki, and the Chilton curriculum. There is a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, self-management skills giving our children a head-start for school. The IB PYP Programme supports students to gain an understanding of the world and to learn to function comfortably within it, moving from not knowing, to knowing. In the PYP, it is acknowledged that experiences during the early years lay the foundations for all future learning. View full school
- Our school has had a long, and in many ways, dramatic history, and in 2017 we celebrated our Centenary. Importantly, this celebration focused squarely on the students and staff who have made our school what it is today. We have so much to be thankful for in terms of those who have worked, learned, and grown in our school before us, and our school will always be indebted to their graciousness and commitment. The school moves into its second century with great confidence and an eagerness to discover what the future holds. The first thing that people notice when they visit our school is the warmth and confidence of the students they meet as they walk around the campus. These students are inquisitive, interested, and present, always keen to meet the new boy or girl. Going to school is an enticing possibility and exciting opportunity, with students regularly displaying their enjoyment of their time here at Cathedral. The school community is a microcosm of the modern world, embracing cultural diversity and accepting different backgrounds and life experiences. Rural, indigenous and international students join their Townsville counterparts in a school community that is tolerant, patient, and kind. Life-long friendships are forged as students work and play together in a supportive, inclusive community. With the cost of private education being a significant consideration for families, there is a need for a school like ours to offer the very best teachers, facilities, and care for the families who decide to join our school. To offer an authentic and individually rewarding program for each of your children when they become our students is always given the importance it deserves. The mission of The Cathedral School is to be a caring, Christian community in which children are challenged and inspired to explore, learn and grow so they will be equipped to make wise decisions as informed members of society. Our Aims To be a center for academic excellence. To encourage an understanding that the spiritual and moral aspects of life are central to our humanity. To affirm the unique worth of the individual. To inspire our students through creative, purposeful, enjoyable learning to reach their full potential. To develop attitudes that are anticipatory, visionary, and reflective. To educate our students to be discerning, sensitive, and responsible. The Cathedral School has undergone many changes throughout its long history. However, one thing has remained the same - it has always provided a nurturing and challenging environment where students can learn, develop, and grow in a caring Christian community. The school was established in 1917 as St Anne's, a girls' school operated by the Sisters of the Sacred Advent Society. Sixty years later, the Sisters departed, and the school came under the control of the Anglican Diocese of North Queensland. The first lay principal was appointed in 1978, and the school soon became co-educational and assumed its new name. The original school operated in the Synod Hall adjacent to St James Cathedral, but soon moved to its premises on the site occupied by the Townsville City Council. During the war years, staff and students were evacuated to the safety of inland Ravenswood, and in 1958 the school moved to its current site in suburban Mundingburra. Cathedral (as it is affectionately known) is now a modern, independent Anglican School. Students from Kindergarten to Year 12 enjoy the unique natural environment created by the massive rain trees and freshwater lagoon on the school's grounds. The single campus is "family-friendly" and provides an easy transition for students as they progress through the school years.
- Timetabled Pastoral Care lessons based on building Social-Emotional Skills through the “You Can Do It!” Program. Vertical PC family groups in the Secondary School. St James Lutheran College is a restorative school, meaning that our Behaviour Management philosophy focuses on building and maintaining healthy and positive relationships for learning.
- Founded in 1842, Saint James School is the oldest Episcopal boarding school based on the United States' English model. We are a co-educational boarding school with a smaller day student program near Hagerstown, Maryland, just over an hour from the nation's capital. Our campus is situated on a picturesque 100 acres surrounded by more than 600 acres of School-owned farmland. Approximately 240 students divided into Forms II-VI (grades 8-12) attend Saint James School. Tradition is still very much a part of the fabric of our School. Morning chapel and family-style meals are time-honored institutions, honor code, and high expectations for community involvement and personal behavior. In these ways, we seek to prepare young men and women for academic success in college and be good leaders in the world. Because of our strong academic excellence tradition, with competitive athletics and a full program in the arts, Saint James competes with the nation's most selective boarding schools. With a 7:1 student-faculty ratio, we can give our students specialized personal attention to meet their needs both within and outside the classroom. Saint James School is committed to developing the "whole person," helping develop and nurture our students' talents and bits of intelligence, and challenging them to grow academically, athletically, musically, artistically, socially, and morally. Our more traditional values and structure also contribute to a close, safe, and supportive residential community. Saint James offers a strong sense of community and one in which faculty and staff care deeply about each student's development and well-being. At Saint James, every student is essential. We provide a solid liberal arts education with electives for the enrichment and the exploration of new interests. Our programs stimulate and challenge young men and women to cultivate their strengths and improve their skills in multiple disciplines—but most of all, to be better people: resilient and self-confident, caring, and helpful. At present, our students represent 15 states and 17 countries. Just under forty percent of our student body receives financial aid, providing socio-economic diversity. Our geographic, cultural, and religious diversity adds to a culture and learning environment that is rich, varied, and rewarding. All Saint James graduates attend four-year colleges. The Saint James experience (academic, residential, athletic, musical, artistic, social, and moral) prepares students for the social and academic challenges to come, positioning them for successful careers in a wide range of professions and business endeavors throughout the country world. Believing that young people are raised best in close relationship with each other and with adults who care for them, we remain committed to our enduring character as a small co-educational boarding school with a limited number of day students predominantly in the younger forms. In educating our students, we seek to develop and nurture all their talents and bits of intelligence, challenging them to grow academically, athletically, artistically, socially, and morally in the context of a close and supportive residential community. To this end, we offer a substantial and appropriate college preparatory program in small classes maintained by a low student to teacher ratio. We require a rigorous core curriculum in English, math, science, history, and foreign languages, with additional electives in each discipline. We require full participation in athletics and offer a comprehensive program for interscholastic competition in three seasons, emphasizing team participation and individual athletic development. We also require participation in the arts, offering academic study opportunities and music and opportunities for extracurricular participation and performance in the drama, visual art, and instrumental and choral music. Faculty at Saint James are expected to care for their students and to teach for their success. Students at Saint James are expected to treat each other and their teachers with respect, assume responsibility for their actions, follow the honor code, and obey the School's rules. These rules are designed to preserve the School's character and decorum as a society for learning and to protect the safety and dignity of each member. Every student is expected to set the right example as a member of our society and to contribute to the community of the School. As students grow older, they are called to positions of responsibility and leadership in their various activities and the residential life of the School. These positions are intended to challenge and develop these students as leaders for good and empower them to serve and help their fellow students. By maintaining a school that is both traditional and tolerant, small and diverse, we hope to establish in microcosm our vision for a better society at large. By challenging our students to lead for good within our community, we hope to prepare them to lead for good in the world. By requiring all our students to serve others outside the School even while they are with us, we seek to remind them of the more significant service opportunities, which await them as occasions for grace and fulfillment in their lives.
