We are very proud of our uniform and how smart our children are and would like to thank you for your help in this. Our Ofsted in June 2015 found our pupils to have a positive attitude to learning, and are respectful, well mannered, and have a strong appreciation of what is right and wrong. The strong leadership was recognized by Ofsted and we continue alongside the Governing Body to improve further. These outcomes cannot be achieved without high expectations about behavior and in particular learning behaviors. We have a strict Behaviour Policy that rewards children as well as clear sanctions for poor behavior. At James Cambell Primary School we recognize that all pupils have access to a broad range of learning experiences that allow them to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, and attitudes necessary for their self-fulfillment and to enable them to play a full part as responsible citizens in the 21st Century. The curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve, irrespective of social background, culture, race, gender, differences in ability, and disabilities.
We aim to provide skills of literacy, numeracy, and computing, helping them to develop enquiring minds and the ability to think rationally. The curriculum also promotes pupils' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and supports them in developing principles for distinguishing between right and wrong. Pupils are encouraged to think creatively and critically and to respect others and the environments in which they live. The curriculum enables pupils to develop their physical skills and promotes their personal and social well-being. We believe that the curriculum should stimulate enjoyment of, and commitment to, learning as a means of encouraging the best possible progress and the highest attainment for all pupils, preparing them for effectively the next steps in their education.
At James Cambell Primary we use letters and sounds as our preferred way of delivering high-quality teaching of synthetic phonics. We use Rigby, Collins Big Cats and Bug Club for our reading scheme which is introduced in Reception and continues to Year 6.We expect that all pupils will read at home whether it is using the scheme provided or other interest books and ask that parents sign their child's reading log and provide feedback. Books are changed at least once a week but can be changed more frequently if requested by the parent.
At James Cambell, we have 2 Parent Support Advisors to work with parents of children attending the school. In the KS1 building, we have Saffron Lempriere and in the KS2 building, we have Richard Pile. A Parent Support Advisor is a free, CONFIDENTIAL service that the school offers. Parenting is a rewarding and challenging job, and there are times when parents and carers need support.
Regular school attendance is vital to help children achieve and get the best possible start in life. Children who frequently miss school often fall behind. There is a strong link between good school attendance and achieving good results. Young people who are frequently absent from school are more likely to become involved in or be a victim of crime and anti-social behavior.
Support can be in many forms and is as individual as your children - from sibling rivalry, behavior, accessing services in the Borough, help with sleeping habits, and furthering your own or your child's education. We offer trust and impartiality and a quiet place to chat. We will work in partnership with you, respecting your wishes, allowing you to parent your children.
Cambell Primary Centre is a time-limited, additionally resourced provision (ARP) of The James Cambell Primary School. We work with children and families across Barking and Dagenham. We are a service for children with significant and enduring Social, Emotional & Mental Health Difficulties, who are not meeting their full potential in school because their behavior or emotional state is stopping them from learning. We work in partnership with each child's mainstream school with an aim to eventual re-integration, usually after two to three terms.
Trewern is a residential center, set in spacious grounds, situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in the Welsh border town of Hay-on-Wye, (internationally famous for its book shops). The Centre is owned by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is staffed by qualified teachers with specialist knowledge and a wealth of experience teaching outdoor education and field studies. Trewern can accommodate groups of up to 54 students in shared bedrooms. Facilities include a dining room, lounge, staff room, coin-operated laundry facilities, showers, kit rooms, drying room, kitchen, classroom, games room, conference room, dormitories.
