  1. Welcome to Talbot Heath, a school that prides itself on its love of learning, strong principles, and warmth. Our school has developed a reputation for excellence, high standards, and values over 130 years. A Church of England School, founded in 1886 to provide a first-class liberal education for girls, the school cherishes its past while looking firmly to the future with an approach to education that is innovative and dynamic. The education that Talbot Heath offers its pupils, from age 3 to 18, is holistic and focussed on preparing the girls for the future that awaits them. Intellectual curiosity and academic rigor go hand in hand with independent and interdisciplinary learning. The young people of today will need to be creative thinkers, digitally proficient, adaptable, resilient, and capable of working both collaboratively and independently. The future will be powered by STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) and our pupils need to be confident and competent in all these areas. Our ground-breaking approach to education which combines rigor with exploration focuses on a curriculum that is creative, broad, and in line with that being offered by the most dynamic and successful schools globally. Our girls are encouraged to think big and have aspirations we do not limit their thinking according to age or preconceptions of outcomes. We offer a broad range of opportunities to girls to allow them to work with like-minded pupils across the school on projects as diverse as robotics, debating, dragons' den, baking, and art installations. The vision for the school has been to be liberal, progressive, and pioneering from its very outset. Girls were to be equipped with knowledge, confidence, skills and inspired to blaze a trail in any sphere. It is no coincidence that Talbot Heath girls were many of the first female graduates, doctors, editors, judges, film directors, and scientific professors in the country. There is no one type of Talbot Heath girl - we encourage individuality and our supportive and secure learning environment allows pupils to be themselves, confident in the knowledge that they will be valued by staff and peers for who they are. There are, however, certain traits that are common to all our pupils: Talbot Heath girls are confident but not arrogant, knowledgeable but not complacent, able to express their opinions but willing to listen to those of others, independent yet supportive, strong yet compassionate, principled but fun. They value what they have and they value others. They are keen to play a role in the wider world but have a strong sense of community. They are original but can work as a team. Our pupils love coming here, our staff love working here- we are proud of our school and the education that we offer. We look forward to welcoming you in person to our school and showing you firsthand why TH is unique. Our extremely positive learning environment brings out the best in the pupils from age 3-18 and the close rapport between staff and girls means that they realize their full potential. Our girls achieve consistently high results at all Key Stages going back decades, resulting in success accessing places at the UK’s most prestigious universities. The caliber of our teaching staff and their commitment to their pupils is second to none. We offer a dynamic and forward-looking curriculum within a highly supportive and nurturing environment. Achievements of all are celebrated, girls give of their best in whatever they do. Our education is broad and holistic, girls excel in their subjects - with commitment and passion and continue to further their education in many universities. Our pupils are happy and can be themselves, as there is little peer pressure and a strong school ethos based upon principles and consideration for others. Talbot Heath was founded in 1886 by Mary Broad to provide a first-class liberal education for girls, an aim that holds today. A committed social reformer and devoted Christian, Miss Broad wished to provide a rigorous education with high academic standards, while developing a genuine love of life and learning in her pupils. At Talbot Heath, we cherish our long traditions and heritage while celebrating modernity and dynamism. Talbot Heath is a Church of England School founded on Christian principles but we welcome pupils of all faiths. Our approach is an inclusive one where all members of the community are united in the importance they place on principles, compassion, and consideration of others. Talbot Heath girls are confident but not arrogant, knowledgeable but not complacent, able to express their opinions but willing to listen to those of others, independent yet supportive, strong yet compassionate, principled but fun. They value what they have and they value others. They are keen to play a role in the wider world but have a strong sense of community. They are original but can work as a team. The School’s motto is ‘Honour Before Honours’ and this underpins the community. We care for each other and support one another. Integrity and character lie at the heart of who we are. 2. At Springwood Heath Primary School we believe in giving every child opportunities to reach the highest possible standards and develop the self-confidence and independence that will help them become a responsible, thoughtful and caring member of the community. We hope that our children will develop attitudes to learning that will last them the whole of their lives. At Springwood Heath Primary School we aim to: Provide a happy, caring, safe, secure, and stimulating environment that promotes self-esteem, mutual trust, independence, respect, and positive relationships where everyone is valued. Develop in our school respect for each other and ourselves, for family and the community and environment, and to give parents the confidence to play a full part in their child’s learning. Provide opportunities and have expectations for all children to achieve their highest potential, irrespective of race, gender, creed, or disability. Make the best use of all resources available to the school, including developing links with the wider community, business, and industry. Provide for all children a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that takes into account their diverse needs, and is enhanced by the interests and enthusiasms of the school community. At Springwood Heath Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental Shared Values are introduced, discussed, and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE, SMSC, PSHE, and Citizenship lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives. The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown, through, for example, sporting events, a range of visits and visitors, use of outdoor education centers, and involvement with community partnerships. Their strong rooted values-based understanding gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference, diversity and enables each child within our unique school to take their place in a Global Society. Our successes have been recognized by awards for Innovation and Best Practice, Reading Quality Mark Gold Standard, Dyslexia Friendly Advanced Status, the Inclusion Charter Mark, Quality in Basic Skills, BECTA ICT Mark, Healthy Schools, and Investor in People. We have also recently been awarded the Gold Artsmark and International School Status. Great News we are thrilled to announce that we are the WINNERS of the Liverpool Echo Active Community Award. We are also delighted to announce that we have won two awards at the Educate Magazine Awards Event, this is another recognition of the fantastic work the school does. View full school

  4. Kings Heath Primary School, a Fully Accessible Mainstream School (i.e. a school with staff and expertise that allows children with specific additional needs to be educated in a mainstream environment) in the south of Birmingham. However, it is the energy, enthusiasm, and creativity of our children and staff that makes our school special, so we hope that you will be able to attend our open days or make an appointment to see around the school, to meet our children and to get a feel for our community. We work hard at creating a caring and secure environment that children can flourish in, with a curriculum that provides challenge, stimulation, and high expectations for all. Children here learn from skilled and caring staff, make friends with children from a very wide range of backgrounds and develop open and positive attitudes as a result. We are pleased that Ofsted always recognizes our ethos as such a major strength and have identified that at the heart of our school there are ‘very warm relationships in all classes’ which ‘encourage and develop pupils’ confidence and enjoyment of learning.’ Our last Ofsted inspection in September of 2016 noted that ‘The culture of the school is inclusive, and diversity is celebrated. That inspection also confirmed teaching, learning, and progress continue to be good and that our school improvement strategies are having the effect we are aiming for. We look forward to working in partnership with parents, pupils, and the wider community to build on our strengths and improve our school even further. Kings Heath Primary School is a diverse and inclusive community of learners. We aspire for our children to be: Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress, and achieve. Confident individuals who can live a safe, healthy, and fulfilling life. Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society. We believe in education and learning that is stimulating, liberating, and enriching and that helps develop minds that are alive to the diversity of human thought and achievement and the richness of the natural world. Kings Heath Primary School is working towards the ‘Rights Respecting School Award’, seeking to apply the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in all of our policies and practice. In April 2016 we were awarded ‘Recognition of Commitment’ – the first stage of the award. We believe learning is best when it is: Structured: Long-term plans ensure the progressive build-up of knowledge, skills, and understanding. Individual lessons have clear learning objectives and success criteria. Active: Learners ‘construct’ meaning, they do not passively receive it: we structure lessons into appropriate ‘chunks’ of time to allow a balance of instruction from adults and exploration/application from the children. Reflective: We use open questions to encourage debate and self or peer assessment at the end of lessons. Progressive: We practice our skills and learn from our mistakes. We challenge children to move on. Co-operative: Shared learning, through group and paired activities, are regular features of our lessons. Stimulating: We use a range of teaching and learning styles including auditory, kinaesthetic and visual. Motivating: We reward and praise effort, achievement, and creativity. Children on the special needs register and children with statements of SEND/education health care plans may have individual learning plans specifically tailored to their needs or specific aspects of learning to develop. These are addressed as far as possible as part of the normal classroom teaching but sometimes require specific input involving withdrawal from the main classroom environment for short periods. All children are given full access to the National Curriculum unless their statement/education health care plan of SEND indicates disapplication. Staff will actively support all children to reach their potential regardless of academic ability, race, gender, or age.
  5. Heath Mount Primary School is a two-form entry school, located near the center of Birmingham. Our school has four hundred and twenty pupils from a range of ethnic backgrounds. We are very fortunate to have a large number of staff at our school, totaling over 65. We are very proud of the internal furnishings of the school’s building. We work hard to create a bright, exciting, learning-focused environment where children prosper and enjoy their learning. We have worked very hard over years to create a vibrant outside learning environment for the children. We have created different areas for the children to choose from, including climbing frames, outdoor table-tennis tables, tire park, slide, quiet zones, football pitch, basketball court, and more. We are very fortunate to have study areas in each phase of the school to enable groups of children to be withdrawn from their classrooms to receive intensive, focused teaching. We are placing an ever-increasing focus on the use of ICT across the curriculum and having completed the building of a new, themed computer suite we are now using sets of laptops and pads around the school. We believe that Heath Mount School must be one that can: Be a well-organized and systematic school with high levels of trust and accountability at all levels. Be an inclusive school – focus on all pupils’ needs through a dynamic, creative, and fun curriculum. Have high expectations leading to high levels of achievement where success is recognized and celebrated. Extend pupils’ learning through a strong partnership with the local and global community. Be a caring and supportive environment for everyone, placing high emphasis on the professional development of all staff and the health and well-being of everyone. At the end of the last term, the Governing Board was disbanded and an Interim Executive Board (IEB) was put in place because of the school being in the category Requires Improvement by Ofsted. An IEB is a smaller board of people who are directly appointed by the Birmingham Education Authority. Our IEB comes with a wide range of professional experiences and they have hit the ground running. They are operating at a strategic level and they offer both support and challenge with driving the school forward. At Heath Mount, we have spent a long time researching different methods to report children’s attainment and progress, and we have had a look at various commercial software tracking systems. Following our research, we have decided to use the Inform Tracker alongside the Step UP tool.

  8. Welcome to King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy where you’ll discover a great learning environment in which students aged from 11 to 18 are encouraged to reach their full potential. We invite you to be part of it. We believe that all children can achieve. We provide a stimulating learning environment where we raise students’ aspirations. We ensure equality of opportunity for all. We pride ourselves on being approachable – working with parents, students, staff, and the community in a spirit of cooperation and support. We belong to King Edward VI Foundation – which provides a proud history dating back to 1552 and a national reputation for academic excellence. We have high expectations of personal conduct and responsibility. We have an absolute commitment to high standards for all. Above all, we believe in the best – for our students, their families, our Academy, and the wider community. King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy is committed to developing responsible, aspirational, independent, happy, and well-rounded young people with the self-belief to reach their goals. Our work will be underpinned by our core values and driven by our unequivocal belief in equality and tolerance. We will secure this through inspirational and enthusiastic teaching, the provision of a broad, challenging curriculum, and excellent support and care. We want to ensure our young people fulfill and exceed their potential, be proud of who they are, be committed to lifelong learning and leave well-equipped to navigate their way through the challenges of the 21st Century positively contributing to society both economically and socially. The Sponsor, King Edward VI Foundation, has developed a vision and ethos for the Academy. The ‘ethos’ is what the culture of the Academy will be like – the thinking and values that will shape the way it works. The vision of the Academy is how that ethos will look and work in the Academy, how it will impact the day-to-day. This vision and ethos will help us to make the Academy a place where students fulfill their real potential. The Academy will become a beacon of aspiration for the children of the local community and will work with that community to provide an entirely comprehensive education for all of its students. It will blend excellence in academic, vocational, and extra-curricular activity to allow them all to succeed in ways most appropriate to them and their talents. The Academy will ensure that all students receive a well-rounded education that goes well beyond their academic study. It will offer a rich and diverse educational experience designed to broaden their horizons and to raise awareness of what is possible for them as individuals, increasing their ambition. Through strong pastoral systems, the Academy will nurture a caring environment, which values and respects diversity and which seeks to recognize and reward all skills, abilities, and achievements. The King Edward VI Foundation has values that can be shared with the local community of Sheldon Heath to maximize the achievements of the students within the Academy. The Foundation's vision is that: A culture of high aspiration and the celebration of high achievement in academic, vocational, and personal contexts can encourage all students to achieve their potential. A demonstrable interest in and commitment to each student through effective pastoral systems makes them feel safe, valued, and prepared to learn. A well-rounded education, extending beyond academic study and offering rich and diverse opportunities, enables all students to broaden their horizons and to feel that they can succeed at something relevant to them as individuals. The development of a strong and thriving sixth form at the Academy is essential for progression in the education of its students and will enhance provision in East Birmingham as a whole. Providing opportunities for students to practice leadership skills and to make a contribution to the development of their Academy will give students pride in their school and will support positive behavior and discipline. The specialisms of Science and Performing Arts can be maximized through high-quality teaching and learning, resources, and accommodation to offer choice, diversity, and achievement for all talents. Strong partnerships with the local and wider community can be used to enhance the curriculum offered to students and to develop a sense of ownership amongst residents. Access to new technologies will give students the confidence to participate and lead in a rapidly changing society. The Academy will be in a partnership with the King Edward VI Foundation. This means that it will benefit from links with other schools which are part of the same foundation. This partnership will help students to grow academically, vocationally, socially and morally, so that they leave the Academy as independent, cooperative, responsible, and creative young adults able to cope with the challenges and changes they face throughout their lives. Together with relevant qualifications, this will prepare students for entry to Further and Higher Education and the world of work. There is another partnership that we hope will play an important role in making the Academy a success: a partnership with parents. This is essential to ensure that students can achieve their potential and the Academy will encourage parents to feel that they are valued and able to contribute to the process of educating their child. Our Mission is to promote a culture of educational excellence, from within a caring and secure environment enriched with the values of discipline, mutual care, and respect, which extends beyond the school into the wider community. Our mission consists of three key elements: Educational excellence A belief that everybody has the potential to succeed within a high-quality and intellectually challenging educational environment. A commitment to instilling high aspirations, a desire to learn, and ambition to achieve. A personalized approach to securing excellence, stemming from a passionate belief that each individual is unique and special and capable of rising above any perceived limitations. Character development A cohesive identity so that our pupils, their parents, and communities feel a strong sense of belonging to the Tauheedul “family”. A passionate focus on a values-based education that instills honesty, integrity, compassion, and mutual respect into all our pupils. A strong core of tenacity, self-respect, and self-belief that inspires each pupil to become the best person they can be Service to communities A determination to develop outstanding British citizens who are proud of, and contribute to, the social and economic prosperity of our country. A sense of personal accountability and responsibility to others. A commitment to charitable endeavors and to making a difference in our world. We teach our pupils the importance of being kind, compassionate, and respectful to everyone that they meet, irrespective of their faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, or any other perceived differences. Through our leadership specialism, community service projects, and interfaith alliances, our pupils meet inspirational people from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures, and are encouraged to embrace all that life in modern Britain has to offer. We also consider it essential for our staff to lead by example and exemplify and model British values. British values are therefore built into our staff induction processes and reiterated in all staff training exercises. Pupils are encouraged to become politically aware from a young age and participate in debates concerning age-appropriate issues, developing arguments for and against carefully chosen topics. In doing so, they learn how to put forward a strong case for causes they believe in (an essential part of the democratic process), as well as how to employ both facts and emotion to resonate with other people. British values are ingrained in everything we do and represent all that we strive to achieve in our vision to nurture today’s young people and inspire tomorrow’s leaders. We encourage our pupils to live a life characterized and enriched by the values of Service, Teamwork, Ambition, and Respect, and we hope that these tenets will continue to inform their choices, actions, and behaviors long after they leave school, enabling them to make a positive impact on society. 12.

  17. All children are introduced to and understand the school’s ethos.‘Give me a place to stand and I will move the Earth.’ With that in mind, and with further inclusion of the school motto ‘Work Hard and Play Hard, the children develop a strong sense of self-worth with the added value of a work ethic which ultimately is reflected in their achievements. In the all-around child who will progress to the next stage of education with self-esteem, self-confidence, and resilience. In good manners, that a child will at all times be courteous and thoughtful towards those whom he/she meets, where qualities of kindness, honesty, tolerance, and consideration are essential pre-requisites for a child's development. In physical fitness and the striving for excellence in the sporting endeavor. We believe in a competition conducted within the rules of a game, fair play, and good sportsmanship. In the individuality of the child, that each child is encouraged and treated fairly according to the range of abilities and his/her particular needs. Inequality of opportunity and treatment between the sexes, different age groups, nationalities, and creeds. Ambition and hard work as honorable and vital qualities. In independence and self-reliance - that children be taught to look after themselves and others, to cope and hold their own, in any situation. That a child should be taught the skills of the personal organization so that progress is not hindered through inefficiency and that maximum benefit be derived from all challenges and opportunities. Happiness is firmly rooted in the child's belief that he/she is appreciated, loved, and understood. In this way, a child's potential may be wholly realized while remaining happy at school. Our school day is busy where children feel a sense of excitement and achievement – a fast structured pace giving a sense of urgency in their quest for excellence. The school timetable encourages children to work hard in the mornings and then after lunch, children are very active and take part in sporting and creative activities. Trips, educational visits, and workshops are wide-ranging and packed into an activity-filled academic year. The school also has a busy and diverse Extra-Curricular program, with daily Extra-Curricular Clubs and a variety of residential trips for Heath House pupils. Heath House has an excellent academic record at 11+ entry to leading independent and grammar secondary schools. Class sizes are kept as small as possible to enable maximum attention for each child and greater pupil participation. The maximum class size is 16. The Heath House classroom priorities are: To provide a stimulating classroom environment where pupils may happily say when they do not understand. To achieve through motivation, where children are set to clear objectives which challenge their enquiring minds in the pursuit of excellence. To provide a structured environment where children can actively engage in discussion, debate, or drama, yet provide quiet surroundings for learning and investigating. To respond to the individual needs of the members of the class, working to their levels and helping pupils achieve their potential. To aim to teach through practical example, case studies, and experience. Heath House Preparatory School is an accredited member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and is inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
  19. View full school
  20. View full school
