  1. Today, more than ever, Fashion is everywhere- in the street, on the Internet, in books, film, and television. Young people (like you?) are drawn toward the fashion industry and its related professions for many reasons, including the way of life. It represents a trendsetting, artistic environment filled with remarkable people. The same industry's requirements are becoming more stringent as it demands genuine personal investment, creativity, a well-developed ability to analyze information, and a thorough knowledge of the market. Today, it is vital for students to choose the most suitable training to ensure their position at the forefront of future industry talents. With this in mind, ESMOD International offers topflight programs in design and business to cover the full range of the fashion industry's demands, as it has been doing for over 170 years. The 2016 graphic direction reflects current trends with bright colors, geometric designs, dynamic page layouts, and imaginative collections, making a creative cocktail of optimism to inspire your fashion vision. Our methods are patented and acknowledged. We perpetuate French know-how that anticipates events and technical evolutions and has evolved with the market's needs for over 170 years. We train for all areas in the Clothing and Textile Industry, including production, sales, and communication, and prepare students for jobs as designers, patternmakers, sample room managers, buyers, press agents, product managers, marketing directors, fashion editors, photo stylists, creative directors. ESMOD is inseparable from the name of its founder, Alexis Lavigne, Master Tailor in the Paris of the nineteenth century, who was notably tailor to the Empress Eugénie. He was the inventor of many patented tools still used in sewing, including the model's bust and the tape measure. Alexis Lavigne's eagerness to turn his innovative know-how into theory led him to write numerous articles on the Fashion of his time. He also developed unique cutting methods that were to give rise to the ESMOD Editions. The published works, updated every year, have now become the foundation of ESMOD teaching. His investment in the transfer of expertise caused him in 1841 to open the first Lavigne cutting courses, ancestors of the ESMOD school, where apprentice tailors would come to train. In 1880, on the death of Alexis Lavigne, his daughter, Alice Guerre, took over the school's management and opened it to a new public: young ladies. As early as 1900, the Guerre-Lavigne school already aspired to export its expertise internationally to enrich its methods by making contact with other cultures and crafts. The 1960s marked a turning point in the school's tuition when the notion of design appeared, playing its part in the evolution of the profession of the couturier. In 1976 the École Guerre-Lavigne took the name of ESMOD. In the late 1980s, Fashion shifted towards Marketing. So in 1989, the ESMOD group created the ISEM, the first business school dedicated to Fashion, to meet new market demands. Since its inception, ISEM has had the vocation to train marketing, sales, and communication managers. The ESMOD group now consists of 20 schools in 13 countries. Due to its rich history, Paris is incontestably one of the greatest capitals of Fashion, and more broadly of Arts and Culture, with an inescapable appeal. The most outstanding designers have had a considerable influence in the city, which now extends internationally. The school's main campus is located in the 9th arrondissement on rue de La Rochefoucauld, in the Nouvelle Athènes neighborhood, close to Boulevard Haussmann and its Department Stores (Les Galeries Lafayette and Le Printemps), the Pigalle-Montmartre neighborhood, with its increasing cultural vibrancy, and the Opéra-Madeleine neighborhood, another jewel of luxury shopping. In a magnificent private villa, built around a central atrium in the Eiffel architectural style, the school catapults you into a heady atmosphere of history and creativity. The students of the "Fashion Design & Creation" (ESMOD) courses find all the necessary infrastructures to breathe life into their creativity: a boutique offering design and pattern-making supplies at exclusive prices and the availability of professional sewing machines ... A documentation center and a fabric library, managed by a former employee of Christian Lacroix, providing an inexhaustible source of inspiration throughout the year. A conference room is also available to meet fashion professionals during speed recruitment sessions or at the many conferences offered by the school throughout the year. Take a virtual tour of the ESMOD Paris Atrium with Google street view. Situated on the border of Greater Paris, close to the headquarters of Chanel, Hermès, and major Parisian cultural institutions (La Philharmonie de Paris, the Grande Halle de la Villette, etc.), the Pantin campus is home to students on "Fashion Business" (ISEM) courses as well as the third-years on the "Fashion Designer" (ESMOD) program with whom they will work on Team Building. In a magnificent building built in the 1920s, which once housed the former branch of the Banque de France, with an area of 3,500m², around a bright atrium of 650m², enhanced by a partial mezzanine and modular rooms, the school aims to offer its students a unique environment. Cutting-edge equipment is available in specially adapted spaces: a large capacity multipurpose room for conferences or fashion-focused events and equipped outdoor terrace areas complete this setting designed for the well-being of all.
  8. The biggest problems that Japan's fashion business has faced are that designers do not have enough understanding of business management, while business managers lack an adequate understanding of design. When one considers fashion as a global business, multiple perspectives in management, finance, production control, and other areas are required, in addition to originality in designs and superb technical skills. To nurture new leaders for the next generation of the fashion industry, BFGU was established in 2006 by Educational Foundation Bunka Gakuen, a leading institution of fashion education in Japan, based on its ninety-year track record and expertise. By combining theory and practice, we will be nurturing "new creators," helping them establish their brands or business models on the global fashion business scene. As Japan's only graduate university that aims to nurture fashion professionals, the BFGU offers unique and excellent features. First, it integrates fashion creation with fashion management to learn the practical skills required to manage creative and design skills. With the unprecedented combination of these two divisions, the graduate school implements high-level education to foster professionals' growth. Second, the graduate students can make extensive use of the world-leading premises and facilities that Educational Foundation Bunka Gakuen has developed and accumulated over the years. Third, the graduate university organizes various industry-academia collaborative projects to offer students opportunities to gain practical business experience. We hope you will display your abilities in this well-developed educational and research environment. Message from the President BFGU came into existence by accumulating the Bunka Gakuen Educational Foundation's expertise and achievements, which has had a leading role in fashion education in Japan for over ninety years. Bunka Gakuen has produced new leaders who hold two perspectives, namely creation and management. Since its foundation in 1923, Bunka Gakuen has created a variety of collaborative activities with various cities worldwide through fashion, joint research with industries, publications, cultural and research activities in connection with fashion. At the same time, Bunka has been developing advanced fashion education and forming many prominent designers. BFGU was established from this historical background as the first graduate fashion university in Japan that values both strong "expertise" and "skills." We aim to educate new professionals in the fashion industry who can create Japanese brands in the global fashion business scene. At BFGU, we provide two specialization divisions, Fashion Creation and Fashion Management, within the Graduate School of Fashion Business. The aim is to educate talented people who have the intellect and skills to prevail in the world's fashion market. In agreement with the previously mentioned three fields of study in the fashion business, we have established three courses: Fashion Design Course, Fashion Technology Course, and Fashion Business Administration Course. Under each course's purpose, we have structured the curriculum in the Graduate School of Fashion Business in agreement with the Design field of study, Technology field of study, and Management field of study. Moreover, graduate students must initiate their subject of study. In addition to our curriculums focusing on real case studies, our professors are also businesspersons who have played an active part in leading positions in the fashion industry. Graduate students will also study the latest and advanced business skills and achieve motivation through visiting professors and visiting special lecturers, including designers such as Mr. Atsuro Tayama.

One of the FIT Strategic Plan's critical goals is to create a purposefully diverse campus—one which, through its students, faculty, and staff—reflects the pluralistic city, nation, and world in which we live. Through the establishment of various councils, task forces, and committees, President Joyce F. Brown has provided opportunities for members of the FIT community to celebrate and honor cultural diversity, to incorporate sustainability into both operational and curricular activities, and to foster discussion of respectful ways of living and learning in a higher education environment. The next generation wanted to be doctors and lawyers—not tailors. A group of industry members, led by Mortimer C. Ritter, an educator with interest in programs for young working people, and Max Meyer, a retired menswear manufacturer, set about organizing a school to ensure their vitality businesses. First, they created the Educational Foundation for Apparel Industries to promote education for the industry. The Foundation then obtained a charter from the New York State Board of Regents to establish a "fashion institute of technology and design." The institute opened in 1944 with 100 students and was located on the High School of Needle Trades' top two floors. Today, the campus encompasses an entire city block and serves more than 10,000 students. 17.
