Since our inception, Crossroads' commitment to all forms of diversity has made it possible for us to be racially, economically, geographically, and culturally inclusive. Even in the earliest days, Crossroads made a significant commitment to community service and soon developed a comprehensive program that served as inspiration for many other schools. In the 1990s, we developed a different facet of community service we called "institutional community service" and created a separate non-profit foundation, the Crossroads Community Outreach Foundation so that the School could model our students' values. It is the goal of Crossroads School to provide a strong college preparatory program from which each student will develop a personal commitment to learning, a respect for independent thinking, and an expanding curiosity about the world and its people. We worked with Rebuild Joplin and Americorps volunteers to clear debris where homes had been destroyed. We worked with the National Forest Service on trail building and maintenance in the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Intelligence is a tool. It is not enough to be smart. We expect our students to be smart AND good. Crossroads prepares students to be successful in college and to be actively engaged in the broader community. Crossroads Bible College exists to glorify God by training Christian leaders to reach a multiethnic urban world for Christ. With our emphasis on biblical, gospel-centered training with a focus on urban ministry and racial reconciliation, Crossroads produces graduates through affordable and practical education. The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires that all colleges who participate in federal student aid programs must disclose certain information to current and prospective students and the faculty, staff, and employees. Crossroads Bible College features several undergraduate programs to prepare students intellectually, spiritually, and relationally for a lifetime of Christian service. We know life is busy. CBC's Adult Degree Completion program is an accelerated, collaborative learning environment where one can earn college credits in a shorter time than a regular semester-based program. The program is fast-paced and requires a considerable amount of reading, writing, and diligence each week away from the classroom. Each course is taught in a 5-week module. There is limited examination. Instructors typically use projects to measure learning, spiritual growth, and skill development. Students can enter a cohort through rolling admission. A cohort experience is a place for learning, team building, and spiritual formation. Professors act as a facilitator and encourage shared learning experiences. The student brings his/her experiences to the classroom, as well. CBC will transfer up to 90 credit hours from an accredited college/university "C-"or higher. Transferred credits meeting required courses can be accepted, but the student is still required to complete at least 30 residential hours, which equals one year of active attendance. Biblical counseling and equipping fulfill the mandate in Ephesians 4:11-16 for church leaders to equip God's people to do the ministry's work by speaking the truth in love—the personal ministry of the Word. The Leadership and Ministry program is intended to provide Christian leaders with background and leadership skills and how they should be applied in ministry. Based on principles found in God's Word and the example set forth by Jesus Christ, students will learn biblical leadership concepts. A degree in Organizational Leadership prepares students to assume leadership roles within organizations, both Christian and secular. The focus is on biblical principles of ethics and their practical application in today's workplace. A foundational and comprehensive study of Life Learning recognizes the rich and diversified experiential learning for adult degree completion degrees. Emphasis is on the learning that students have experienced and earned through life vocations. Participation in this course allows the student to reflect on their life learning. Through the Credit by Demonstrated Competency (CDC) credit evaluation, the student will document selected topics, experiences, and skills. CDC application is submitted for evaluation for college credit at the Bachelor's level. The student documents learning. Students submit the necessary documentation work for the credit being earned in the Learning Management System. Professional ministry and other non-skilled learning experiences may require writing reflections and substantive evidence for credit to be received. Upon entrance to Crossroads, all students are assigned an Academic Advisor. Academic Advisors are available to support students towards achieving their educational, career, and life goals. Academic Advisors are available to assist students in declaring a major, registering for classes, dropping/adding a class, understanding school policies, using the campus management system, planning for the future, or any other academic matter. The goal is for students to be successful in the classroom if a student is encountering difficulty in any way, Academic Advisors are available to meet with students and consider strategies which may be helpful. Students selected for the program spend one semester in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area, which is a national center for ministry to the deaf. There they benefit from an intensive, comprehensive curriculum that includes classroom instruction, guest lectures, and field trips. Students also receive on-the-job training through supervised teaching at deaf schools and camps, preparation of Bible visuals for deaf people, and conducting worship services for deaf people in area churches. Students usually live in a special housing on the campus of Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, about two miles from Deaf Missions. They eat in the school cafeteria with deaf students.
