Kingswood University began as the Holiness Bible Institute in October 1945, in Woodstock, New Brunswick. The school was founded by the Alliance of the Reformed Baptist Church of Canada with the primary purpose of training ministers within the Atlantic region. In 1947, the school relocated to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and was renamed Bethany Bible College. Eighteen years later, the leaders explored the possibility of relocating to a site that would be more central for the constituency and would provide more growth opportunities. On September 18, 1965, Bethany Bible College reopened on the Sussex campus with two buildings on top of the hill overlooking the beautiful Kennebecasis Valley. Named in honor of President Conard Stairs, who led the new campus's vision, Stairs Hall housed administration offices, classrooms, the chapel, and dining hall. Ingersoll House, which was named in honor of Rev. H. R. Ingersoll, provided dormitory housing. In 1983, the Province of New Brunswick authorized the college to grant degrees. Bethany Bible College became accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education in 1987. The school has since added other Associate of Arts and Bachelor degree programs, and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology. In 2011, Bethany Bible College was renamed Kingswood University to serve better our purpose of equipping servant leaders for global impact. More property was acquired over the years, and dorms, classrooms, and faculty offices have been added. In 2008, the Saunders Irving Chapel was dedicated and served as the center point of the campus. Following a complete modernization and refurbishment of the library in 2010, the Earle & Marion Trouten Library was renamed and rededicated. These significant additions, along with other major renovations, provide an excellent campus atmosphere for learning and worship. Grants (Pell, TEACH, SEOG), loans (subsidized, unsubsidized, PLUS), and work-study are federal student aid types you must complete the FAFSA to apply for this aid. Institutional Awards – Bethel College awards many types of institutional scholarships and grants to full-time undergraduate students. Awards may be based on merit or need and may be restricted to tuition costs only. Financial aid awards and policies are subject to change—review list of an expanded list of institutional awards and financial aid policies. Students can apply for an alternative loan to cover remaining educational expenses, but most will need a credit-worthy cosigner. Based on the federal government's criteria, students who receive federal financial aid may be selected for verification. This process is designed to verify the financial information provided on the FAFSA. A verification worksheet and federal tax information is required to complete the process. Additional information may also be requested. To be considered for all financial aid, information must be submitted within 30 days of the college's written request. In no instance will verification information be processed beyond the student's enrollment period. All federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships will post to your student account at the start of each semester, once all requirements have been met. Some grants or scholarships may have minimum enrollment, or housing requirements endowed scholarships often require a thank-you note from the recipient to be sent to the donor. Some federal programs require additional steps to be completed before funds being released, such as the direct loan and TEACH grant.
