  1. Augusta Preparatory Day School is a diverse, non-sectarian independent school focused on preparing students for excellence in all ways from as young as 3 years old in Preschool to the 12th grade. Our college preparatory school, located on a 55-acre campus in Martinez, Georgia, is in its 58th year and offers a tradition of providing strong academics through small class sizes with expert teachers, exemplary arts and athletics programs, and a character-driven atmosphere featuring an honor code and community outreach efforts. Our campus has a Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School, with an enrollment of approximately 450 students and a 100 percent college acceptance rate. We have achieved the high designation of a Cum Laude Society chapter honoring the scholastic achievement of students as well as being one of only 50 schools in the country and the only school in Georgia to be named a Malone Scholars school, a program that awarded us a $2 million grant that perpetually supports top-level students to receive scholarships. Augusta Preparatory Day School will develop the intellect, talents, and character of each student in a diverse, college-preparatory, non-sectarian, and welcoming community of lifelong learners. We are committed to educating well-rounded, engaged students who embrace personal responsibility, global perspective, and service to others. Through small classes and flexible programs, talented and committed faculty provide individual attention to help each student achieve his or her academic best. Our motto, “To be, rather than to seem,” describes this community of doers who work together to make the world a better place. We hope that students (and families) who want to see effort rewarded by opportunities join us as Cavaliers. Explore the world around us as part of a vibrant academic, artistic, and athletic scene at Augusta Prep! We understand that each student has a gift that they share with the world. We appreciate what an important decision finding the educational fit for your student is to your family, and we’re here to help you in the journey. Our culture is distinctive in its vision and delivery: It teaches students how to think, not simply what to think. Our community thrives in preparing our students for an ever-changing world by teaching the skills necessary to be adaptable, effective, and resilient learners. Our educational vision for your student leads to many triumphs from academic success, personal growth, after-school involvement, and enrichment, to give a senior speech, earning exciting college offers, and eventually graduate school and rewarding employment opportunities. As a smaller school by choice, Prep can provide guidance, support, and opportunities for each student to shine. We encourage you to explore our website. To truly experience the special culture and qualities found at Augusta Prep, we invite you to visit our campus and see for yourself our dedicated teachers sharing a special educational experience with our talented and motivated students. All of Prep’s attributes combine to create what we believe is the finest school in Augusta and the greater Central Savannah River Area (CSRA)! Augusta Prep seeks to enroll a group of diverse students. We follow an open admission policy, whereby qualified candidates are admitted without regard to religion, race, nationality, economic background, or ethnic origin. The Admission Committee evaluates each applicant based on personal interview, academic record, teacher recommendations, and admission testing or assessment for evidence of good character, maturity, and academic motivation. When First District Agricultural & Mechanical School's inaugural academic year began in 1908, few could have foreseen a major American university growing out of four faculty members and 15 students in just a little more than one lifetime. Georgia Southern boasts 27,000-plus students, more than 2,000 faculty and staff, and 141 programs of study at the bachelor's, masters, and doctoral levels in its second century of service. Founded as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural schoolchildren, then-First District A&M School began within two decades to shift its emphasis to meet the growing need for teachers within the state. Its name and mission were changed in 1924 to Georgia Normal School as a training ground for educators, though it continued to accept "preparatory" or high school students. Five years later, in 1929, full-fledged senior college status was granted as South Georgia Teachers College. Two universities became one. On December 1, 2015, that one became Augusta University.

Read on to find out why we feel so good about our hometown. Following the American Revolution, a zeal for education spread through the new United States. Augustans, too, caught this fire and chartered the state's first academy in 1783. In 1791 when President George Washington attended the examinations at the Academy of Richmond County, the school offered post-secondary studies in Latin, French, Greek, algebra, and trigonometry to prepare students for transfer to university sophomores. This year of college work was the beginning of higher education in Augusta. In 1996 Augusta College acquired university status as Augusta State University. In 2011 MCG became Georgia Health Sciences University to reflect its broad mission in many health sciences. Both schools had expanded programs to meet the educational needs of the rapidly changing society of the late 20th/early 21st century. Building on its parent institutions' legacies, in 2013, the Georgia Southern University is the state's largest and most comprehensive center of higher education south of Atlanta.
