About Me

  1. A school with a rich history spanning more than a century, St. Anne' s-Belfield is located at the University of Virginia's doorstep in Charlottesville and the intersection of tradition and innovation. We offer a multi-dimensional educational experience that is nurturing yet challenging and forward-looking. Our community of 942 students from 19 countries, and more than 3,600 alumni spread across the globe, is a diverse and dynamic network that we are excited you are considering joining. St. Anne' s-Belfield School is a place where students grow into exemplary citizens. Our mission is to encourage curiosity and foster a love of learning in our students, inspiring them to be bold in their personal goals. Although we expect our graduates to be prepared for the nation's finest colleges and universities, our real purpose is to create a challenging yet charitable atmosphere where students gain skills necessary for both creative and disciplined thought. Encouraging life-long learning, not merely imparting knowledge, is the foundation upon which our challenging curriculum is built and our various classes developed. As outlined in our Strategic Plan, we have high aspirations to continue our educational leadership. We are focusing now on what we teach, how we interact, and creating even more accessible for those seeking a St. Anne' s-Belfield education to build a better School - a goal we work towards every day. Our Belfield and Greenway Rise campuses comprise over 300,000 square feet of teaching and learning spaces for our students in Pre-School through eighth grade in the Learning Village, and newly renovated and state-of-the-art facilities for our Upper School division. Our teachers have the latest resources at their disposal in pursuit of our educational goals, and, with 100% engaging in professional development activities each year, the latest knowledge of research, trends, and best practices as well. Our curriculum offers many innovative courses and interdisciplinary, project-based learning. For more than 100 years, St. Anne' s-Belfield School has fostered an educational community that nurtures the development of advanced skills, abilities, and knowledge, supports high personal aspirations, and develops exemplary, ethical, and engaged citizens who positively impact the world. Just as we push our students to strive for their best, we believe that we must always adapt, grow, and change to fulfill this vision as an institution. We continuously evaluate our standards to find ways to exceed them. Today, we are building upon our century of success to provide even more innovative academic programs, world-class facilities, and diverse, supportive community life. We at St. Anne' s-Belfield School believe that our students will become exemplary citizens and visionary leaders because of the inspiration of exceptional teachers and the nourishment of every child's innate curiosity. Our mission is to feed this curiosity through exceptional, innovative teaching and learning in an intentional Pre-School through Grade 12 community. Close relationships provide the foundation for achievement and where every child is known well. Curiosity—that desire to grow, know, ask, create, and solve—is both the fuel of learning and an essential ingredient to success in an ever-changing world. It must be encouraged from the earliest years and throughout life. Our goal is to nourish our students' curiosity about themselves, their world, and the diverse people around them in an educational experience that inspires, challenges and stimulates innovative, empathetic, and creative thought. We pose compelling questions and seek answers through inquiry, application of core skills, development of essential habits, thoughtful reflection, collaboration with others, and the appropriate use of technology. The questions we ask and the answers we seek reflect our commitment to the cultivation of responsible, honorable behavior and mindfulness of others' needs. We strive to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes that will allow them to pursue their dreams in a rapidly changing and increasingly technological world and to be exemplary citizens in life and work. Ours is a challenging yet charitable community distinguished by superior instruction that is cutting edge and student-driven by exceptionally knowledgeable and highly-trained teachers who are the most supportive and dedicated educators in their field and by an environment that exalts growth over grades by providing a culture of intellectual candor and rich feedback. Our community strives for excellence in all aspects of School life and encourages students to discover and develop empathy, diversity of perspective, adaptability, flexibility, resilience, agency, self-efficacy, and inventiveness. We embrace uncompromisingly high expectations for ethical, selfless behavior and firmly commit to inclusion, civility, and kindness. 2. St Anne’s is a Catholic School that seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ. We promote these values by our words and actions and our practice, therefore, permeates every aspect of the school’s activity. Our Mission Statement is inclusive and constantly encourages mutual respect for others and the uniqueness of each person. We provide a curriculum, which is broad and balanced, recognizing that every pupil is unique and is created in the image of God. Our curriculum is designed to enable every pupil to be well-equipped to follow it as active citizens in service to the world. Children experience democracy through the school council. They learn about the rule of law by creating class rules and following a clear behavior policy that is explained to all. Children are encouraged to be independent in their learning and are provided with opportunities for reflection to promote individual liberty. In Religious Education pupils are provided with a deeper understanding of their faith as well as an awareness of the faith and traditions of other religious communities. Our Mission at St Anne’s Roman Catholic Primary School is to ensure a safe and caring learning environment in which Every Child is given Every Chance to achieve their full potential. We recognize that every individual is unique and formed in God’s image and likeness and it is this that guides our daily work. We have a school nursery class which starts each September where we admit pupils who are 3 years of age by 31st August of that year. Therefore, pupils are admitted in the September following their 3rd Birthday. Applications for all other year groups have to be made via Manchester City Council. The curriculum at St Anne’s RC Primary School is brought to life through the creative learning philosophy of Engage-Develop-Innovate-Express. Each Year Group selects from a range of imaginative learning projects which provide comprehensive coverage of the new National Curriculum Programmes of Study and sets out steps in learning to help children meet or exceed the end of Key Stage expectations. The imaginative learning projects can last between 4-6 weeks. Each project begins with the ‘Engage’ phase where children start with a memorable experience. For example, the Year 1 ‘Superheroes’ topic begins with inviting the children to pull on their capes and masks and set off on a ‘Superhero Hunt’. They use their super senses to search for superheroes hiding on the school grounds. There are occasions when we have to teach some aspects of the curriculum discretely. Religious Education, Maths, Physical Education, and elements of Literacy and ICT are taught outside of the imaginative learning projects to further develop children’s skills, knowledge, and understanding in these areas. As a Roman Catholic Primary School, we follow the ‘Come and See’ program for Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2. It is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism, and the RE Curriculum Directory. Each term a year group will study 3 topics and the children are guided through each topic by following the processes of Explore, Reveal and Respond. Other Faiths are also an important part of our learning and each class will cover a different faith once each term. Homework is an important part of our curriculum. Each week a child will have reading, spelling, and number tasks to complete at home. Depending on the imaginative learning project that is being covered, there may also be a piece of research homework to complete. At the heart of our curriculum is the aim that all pupils should feel cared for, healthy, and safe. The curriculum reflects our aim to excite and motivate our children to maximize their learning potential. It is really important that all parents/carers of children eligible to do so register for free school meals even if you do not choose to have them as the grant enables us to provide extra resources for Pupil Premium children. National Research has shown that children who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so that we can allocate additional support to ensure that they do. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer time such as a term or two terms. It may take the form of 1:1 or small group teaching and may be an evidence-based intervention. The government allows us to spend this money in a variety of ways making sure that it impacts children in terms of improving their literacy and mathematical skills and their social and emotional well-being and happiness. Schools are held accountable for the spending of the PPG(Pupil Premium Grant). Published performance tables will report the achievement of disadvantaged pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. 4. The children, staff, and governors at St Anne’s C.E. Primary School offer a warm welcome to you and your family. Our website aims to tell you about our school – what we stand for and what we want for our children. As a small one-form entry school, we know all the pupils as individuals and have created a warm, safe family environment in which they all can flourish. At the heart of our school is a clear commitment to nurturing and helping children to reach their full potential through the distinctive Christian character and promotion of Christian values. We have high aspirations for all our children. Our highly skilled staff team plans challenging and exciting lessons. Each classroom is a hive of activity with children engaged in learning through meaningful and relevant activities. We provide a stimulating, challenging, and friendly environment underpinned by trust and partnership with parents. We instill a love of learning which our children can carry with them throughout their lives. We lay great emphasis on the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of each child and expect high standards of behavior and achievement from all our pupils. We are proud of our community and want all our pupils to leave the school proud of their success, with a positive attitude, and with the necessary skills, knowledge, and wisdom to face the future with confidence. Our Values: Through Christian values, we nurture our children to be caring, responsible global citizens. We ensure that all our children are successful and fulfill their potential through high-quality teaching. We develop independent and confident learners through engaging and challenging opportunities. We provide a rich and varied curriculum that enables our children to flourish and excel. We build strong relationships with the children, their families, and the local community. Adults and children work together creating a warm family community where everyone can flourish and achieve their true potential. We celebrate the fact that everyone is unique and take great pride in our diverse heritage. ‘St Anne’s recognizes that all children are different,’ ‘teachers listen to children and understand what we are saying.’ Year 6 pupil St Anne’s vision is for our children to be independent, motivated, and confident learners who aspire to achieve their full potential within our friendly Christian school community. Through Christian values, we nurture our children to be caring, responsible global citizens. We focus on a value each month over a two-year cycle. The meaning of each value is explored during collective worship and followed up in the classroom. The whole school community reflects on how each value relates to their everyday lives. We are a warm and close-knit family at St Anne’s with eight classes in the school – one for each year group from Nursery through to Year 6. As a result of our close bonds with each other, we expect that the children who begin their education with us in the Nursery will stay with us for the full eight years. Many pop back to visit after leaving St Anne’s for secondary school and beyond! As a Church school, a sympathetic understanding of the Christian faith and an awareness of Christian values is encouraged. We aim to provide a caring and spiritually supportive environment in which mutual respect, equality, and responsibility are valued by all. Our Christian ethos enables us to help children develop their spirituality and sense of moral purpose. The practice of spirituality is as important as learning about it in class, and the life and achievements of the children are celebrated in worship. The children come together every day for collective worship and each class leads collective worship each term. Additionally, Holy Communion is celebrated on several occasions in St Anne’s Church. Parents are encouraged to join in all these events in which the children take a full and active part. At St Anne’s School, we set high expectations for all. We understand that one of the biggest influences on a child’s education is the adults who work with them and we pride ourselves in our passionate and dynamic teachers who deliver quality first teaching through interactive learning. It’s not only the children who develop a lifelong love and capacity for learning. The teachers and support staff are committed to the development of their practice and knowledge. We support each others’ effective professional learning to constantly improve our teaching. We also take responsibility for this in the context of an international dimension. We have links with schools in India and our national community. We aim to put our children at the center of their learning and place great emphasis on nurturing skills and attitudes such as resourcefulness, resilience, and cooperation. A rigorous assessment cycle enables us to track and monitor children’s progress throughout the year which we report to parents formally three times a year through face-to-face meetings and a yearly written report. We teach Phonics through the Sounds-Write program. We introduced Sounds-Write last year in reception and Key Stage 1. Already we have seen the impact that this program has had on developing reading and writing skills in your young learners. This year we are continuing to develop this program to support spelling and writing in Key Stage 2. Miss Shaub is our lead teacher for Phonics and spelling across the school. In total, we have trained 13 teachers and members of the support team to deliver the Sounds-Write program. Sounds-Write is a quality first phonics program and is acknowledged by the DfE as meeting all its criteria for an effective phonics teaching program - see Sounds-Write entry on the DfE site for details. It is an exciting and highly successful approach to the teaching of reading, spelling, and writing. The Sounds-Write highly-rated, intensive courses have now been attended by over ten thousand classroom practitioners, educational psychologists, and members of local authority support teams. The program is already being used extensively in primary and secondary schools throughout Britain, Northern Ireland, the Irish Republic, Australia, Zambia, and Papua New Guinea. Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling are systematically taught across the whole school and the children are given daily opportunities to learn the skills and apply them to their writing. In the foundation stage children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and work towards the Early Learning Goals. We ensure that children are self-confident have a positive attitude to learning and play cooperatively with other children and adults. In Key Stages 1 and 2 we follow the national curriculum. Half-termly topics give focus and create common themes that serve to inspire the children whilst ensuring that key skills and values are consistently applied throughout the year. We ensure the curriculum is challenging and enjoyable by matching teaching techniques and strategies to a range of learning styles. We use a range of support and intervention programs to ensure all children make progress and develop their full potential. At St Anne’s we are committed to ensuring that all children find opportunities to excel and develop their unique talents and gifts to the full. We facilitate this through a wide range of opportunities. Children at St Anne’s also have many opportunities to perform to an audience both within the school and within Wandsworth as actors, gymnasts, musicians, and dancers. There is also the opportunity for the children to take exams in their chosen discipline. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs for the children to take part in which enables them to try out new hobbies and learn new skills. View full school
  5. We are a two-form entry Catholic primary school with a nursery and are located between The Oval and Vauxhall, just south of the Thames. Our school is centered on Christ and his teachings of love, peace, and justice, we aim to let the light of Christ shine through and from every child. All staff has the highest expectations of every child in every area – the children’s learning, their attitude, their behavior, and the presentation of themselves and their work. The children are taught to be respectful to all adults as well as their peers, to be resilient when things go wrong, and to reflect on and take responsibility for their actions. Religious faith and practice are given a high profile both in the school as a community and through the curriculum. Because St Anne’s is a Catholic school there is a particular focus on the Christian faith, but we also recognize the value and richness of a multi-faith community and endeavor to draw upon this community to promote a positive school environment. Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum. We follow a RE curriculum scheme recommended by the Diocese of Southwark. During each term, the children study the same themes throughout the school but at different levels, based on age. The themes studied give each child an opportunity to relate what they find out about the Catholic faith to their feelings and encourage an atmosphere of respect and reflection. Our program mainly focuses on Christianity, however, we also study another world faith’s to promote tolerance and mutual respect. At St Anne’s we implement the National Curriculum through cross-curricular learning known as Topic Work. All topics – be it Outer Space in Reception through to Anglo Saxons in Year 6 – are taught across a variety of subjects to ensure that the learning is relevant, meaningful, and engaging for children. Each topic weaves together the different subjects so that the learning isn’t just taught through Maths and English, but also through Geography, History, Science, Music, Computing, Art and Drama. As a result of this, children not only acquire knowledge but also have the chance to develop their key skills. View full school

There are many non-Catholic members of staff and students who play a full part in the liturgical life of the school including leading assemblies. 8. At Queen Anne’s we value our girls as individuals and strive to help them reach their potential. Strong academic and pastoral care encourages students to build confidence, stretch their abilities and achieve their goals. We have a ‘no limits’ approach to the girls’ learning and development that produces excellent academic results and outstanding achievements in every field. The school’s warm and friendly atmosphere makes it easy for girls to settle into the school and make long-lasting friendships, while the house system creates a home-from-home environment, which encourages girls to develop interpersonal skills and learn to understand and respect those around them. As we face the challenges of the 21st Century, we aim to create happy, successful, independent young women, who thrive on new experiences and can pursue their goals with confidence. We aim to provide an excellent education for girls between the ages of 11–18. By the time our girls leave us, we strive that they: Will benefit from an excellent, all-round education Will be able to develop their creative, physical, emotional, and spiritual qualities and talents Will be encouraged to celebrate their own and others’ individuality and helped to identify their strengths and needs Will benefit from belonging to a nurturing boarding community where they learn to be mutually supportive as well as responsible, enterprising, and independent individuals Will become confident, well-balanced individuals, able to take their places in society as good citizens and leaders, and able to form strong and enduring relationships with others. Through boarding, we aim to enable girls to: Grow into independent, disciplined, and self-reliant adults Develop good relationships with families, friends, staff, and fellow students Develop their own moral, spiritual, and social values Thrive in the community using the school’s core values as a guidance Fulfill their potential both intellectually and academically Fulfill their potential in sporting, creative and other interests Have opportunities for leadership and responsibility within the house. At Queen Anne’s, we see girls excel, both in and outside of the classroom. The girls have ambitions as varied as their talents and we encourage high aspirations through an innovative and rigorous curriculum. Through inspirational teachers working in conjunction with motivated girls, we see our girls leave us as capable and confident young women prepared for and excited by the next steps in their lives. The girls discuss their academic options at every stage with their tutor to make appropriate choices to suit their aspirations. View full school

In RE students are taught about other faiths and include learning relating to the religious practices and traditions of other belief systems. There are many non-Catholic members of staff and students who play a full part in the liturgical life of the school including leading assemblies. At St. Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls, the formal curriculum, as well as the ethos that permeates the school, plays a significant role in giving pupils an insight into the lives, beliefs experiences, and traditions of others.
  24. Applications for all other year groups have to be made via Manchester City Council The curriculum at St Anne’s RC Primary School is brought to life through the creative learning philosophy of Engage-Develop-Innovate-Express.
