Oliver Goldsmith was built in 1899. We are proud of our vibrant, enthusiastic, and high achieving children and how our personalized curriculum encompasses diversity and extra-curricular activities, and our strong links with the local community. Our school caters for Reception to Year 6, with an additional nursery, offering part and full-time places. We are situated in two Victorian buildings, connected by a modern extension. In addition to the National Curriculum, we offer many extra-curricular activities before, after, and during school times supporting our aim to educate the whole child. The Foundation Stage begins when children reach the age of three and includes the children in both the Nursery and Reception Classes. The Foundation Stage curriculum is organized into six areas of learning and underpins all future education, these are Personal, social, and emotional development, Communication, language and literacy, Mathematical development, Knowledge and understanding of the world, Physical development, Creative development. The early years of children’s education are a vital part of the development of their skills and attitudes, which will enable them to fulfill their social and academic potential. At Oliver Goldsmith School we strive to provide an excellent start for your child and aim to offer high-quality early years provision. We have worked together to design a creative, topic-based curriculum that is relevant, exciting, and real for our children. It involves practical experiences, visits, and challenges for children. We immerse high-quality writing and talk opportunities across the curriculum. Phonics is taught discretely in classes as well as being linked into Reading and Writing across the curriculum. An HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) provides specialist additional support in small groups for children in Year 1 and Year 2 in Phonics. All children in Year 1 sit a Phonics Screening test at the end of the year. Those children who do not pass this test resit it at the end of Year 2 following a program of additional support. Children’s attainment in Phonics has been increasing year on year. In writing, children are given opportunities to progress through whole class shared writing sessions, in which pupils compose texts, edit or refine work and examine the processes of writing with the teacher. The IPC is a topic-based curriculum that is used in schools throughout the UK and many international schools around the world. We do not follow a reading scheme as we wish to expose our pupils to a rich breadth of literature. We, therefore, have carefully selected titles from a range of schemes such as Rigby Star, Tree Tops, and Big Cat. These are supplemented with longer novels in Key Stage 2. The school’s chosen modern foreign language is French and we also provide a Bangla Club. The school follows the Tower Hamlets’ Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. We extend our curriculum through the range of after-school clubs which we offer at Old Palace. Old Moat Primary is a happy and caring school where children can develop the skills and knowledge required to be confident and successful learners. Through excellent teaching and an exciting curriculum, we foster the learning habit while providing high-quality support for children's individual needs. The education landscape has altered almost unrecognizably. Federations, academies, free schools have all appeared (sometimes, it seems, from out of nowhere) and it can be hard to keep up. Schools and groups of schools have greater freedoms but also more accountability. We operate in a competitive environment where we are preparing children to compete locally, nationally, and also internationally. We know that budgets will be tighter and educational expectations will be higher. Put simply, we have to achieve more with fewer resources. We aim to provide full-time nursery places for children who are aged three from 1st September to 31st August of the previous school year. Children cannot be admitted to our nursery until they are three. We aim to have all our children admitted to nursery full time by the third week of September. Parents and carers should contact our Admissions Manager, Melanie Wilkinson if they wish to place their child’s name on our nursery waiting list. Children’s names need to be on the Nursery Waiting List by the end of February, the school year before they are due to start in Nursery. Parents and carers will receive a letter during the Easter Holiday if their child has been offered a place. Manchester local authority is responsible for admissions of all reception places, including children already attending our Nursery. The local authority forms must be completed by parents online, parents can request a paper form. This must be completed by the nominated date in December the year before your child is due to start Reception. A late application could result in your child not getting a place at the school of their choice. Children who have a Nursery place at Old Moat do not automatically get a place in Reception at Old Moat. The evidence from the first few years of our federation has shown that by working with other schools, we can benefit from greater purchasing power and also use the best ideas to raise standards: there has been a rise in standards in both schools since the federation was formed 2012. Each school is unique and must be accountable to their local community making effective use of public funds. In a climate of change, we must retain a strong ethos and sense of purpose while nourishing a truly collaborative spirit. These rapidly developing times, with all the technical and cultural challenges we come across, offer our children (and staff) both exciting opportunities and, at times, striking challenges. We are in a good position to face these challenges with energy and optimism. The governors have a strong track record of making the right changes to improve outcomes. We are a strong federation with an outstanding and good school. We are inclusive and aim to meet all children’s needs and support their development in the most appropriate way to ensure they reach their full potential. We provide additional support for children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). At the Wise Owl Trust, we believe that homework is important since it reinforces and extends the teaching and learning that occurs during the day. Homework encourages parental involvement in children’s learning and allows parents to engage in tasks with their child. Every child will receive a reading book to be read daily at home with an adult. In Key Stage 1 and 2, every child will receive a piece of English and Maths homework every week. Each child in EYFS will receive a homework ‘menu’ with a variety of optional homework tasks to complete with an adult. ‘Spellings’ are sent out weekly. Ogmore Vale Primary School is a Bridgend County maintained school for pupils between the ages of 3 – 11 years. It is an English medium school, but has a strong Welsh ethos due to the teaching of Welsh and also by the colloquial Welsh language that is spoken by staff and pupils. Our school was built in 2003 in the Ogmore Vale Village to join Tynewydd Juniors, Fronwen Primary, and Aber Infants together. Our mission statement is based upon our school community’s core values. At Ogmore Vale, we are committed to nurturing children to become happy, confident, and resilient lifelong learners. Together we shall champion children to become responsible, honest, and respectful global citizens. We will inspire children to embrace their imagination and creativity in preparation for their future, to be the best they can be. The school achieved success in the most recent ESTYN Inspection (2011) with many very good features. We have the Basic Skills, Quality Mark, for Maths and Literacy and we are also very proud of our Platinum Eco-Schools and Healthy Schools awards. We currently have 368 pupils on roll and we continue to sustain a very good pupil staff ratio. The school recognizes the needs of the wider community and is committed to providing life opportunities long learning. We provide a breakfast club from 7.55 am. We also provide a range of extracurricular activities for the children and adult education opportunities. Our Family and Community Engagement ethos is a strength of the school and we are always striving to strengthen relationships with all stakeholders. Odessa Infant School has 3 mobile classrooms and 2 play areas, one for the Reception classes and one for Years One and Two. The nursery is set apart from the school and has its play area. The nursery has 2 classrooms and takes up to 104 children part-time. Children can attend either morning or afternoon sessions. In the main school, we currently have 3 Reception classes, 3 in Year One and 3 in Year Two. Each class has up to 30 children with a class teacher and at least one teacher’s assistant. We share our site with St James Junior School to which most of our children transfer in Year 3. We aim to provide a broad, balanced curriculum for all our children and we strive to ensure that each child has the opportunity and guidance to achieve her/his full potential. The first years at school are so important in forming a child’s feelings about education that we focus not only on what we teach and how we teach it but crucially, how it impacts our learners. We aim to make the teaching and learning at Odessa both hands-on and fun!. We want the children who come to our school to develop a positive self-image and have the confidence to become purposeful, eager learner who will want to continue learning throughout life. The children have opportunities to access all these areas of learning both indoors and outdoors and engage in active learning. They have a combination of independent and focussed activities and are encouraged to explore their environment, develop their skills and learn through play. At Odessa, we are committed to the inclusion of children with special educational needs and fully support Newham Council’s policy on Inclusive Education. We have several children who are assessed as having special educational needs and are proud of the shared vision created by parents/carers/staff and other agencies for their teaching and learning. Extra support is given to children who need it, either by school support staff or by specialists and outside agencies. This will be within the classroom except when individual or group work may be better done separately. Where necessary, children will have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) to provide them with specific, achievable targets for their learning. All teaching and play areas have access to wheelchairs and we have a toilet and shower room suitable for children with physical disabilities. Some of our children are involved in our Rock ‘n’ Roll session, which is a form of intensive interaction that promotes language acquisition and turn-taking as well as confidence and self-esteem. The health, safety, and welfare of all our children are of paramount importance to all the adults who work in our school. In our school, we respect our children. We aim to provide a safe environment and an atmosphere where children feel confident, secure, and able to achieve their best.
