MPEI is one of the leading technical universities in Russia in the field of Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Radio Engineering and Electronics, Informatics and Computer Science, founded in 1930. The area of modern power engineering includes power engineering (hydropower, wind power, thermal, nuclear, solar and space power, etc.), electrical equipment, sciences about materials, electronics, classical and applied physics, radio engineering and communication, computer systems, management and economics in power engineering. All these spheres and other particular training directions are available in MPEI for foreign undergraduate and graduate students. MPEI has been training engineers and scientists for foreign countries since 1946. At present, about 900 international students from 60 countries are trained at MPEI.
MPEI combines "pure energy" and "non-energy" specialties that provide the most in-depth range of our graduates' tasks. We train qualified specialists for all branches of science, technology, and production. Glorious by its traditions, the University has prepared over 200 thousand specialists on power engineering for our country and more than 85 foreign countries.
Now MPEI is not merely the leading Russian University in the field of power engineering. We unite other Russian technical universities training specialists on power engineering within Power Engineering Educational Consortium. Today MPEI is a modern system of continuous multilevel training of specialists with higher education in technical, economic, and humanitarian fields. Advanced technologies of training introduced in MPEI, orientation to modern methods in educational, scientific, and innovative activity guarantee a sustainable advantage in our graduates' labor market and assist them with their further professional growth.
Our University has close relations with many foreign universities as friends and partners, with whom we have signed long-term cooperation agreements. We have always been aspired to make the walls of Moscow Power Energy Institute a home for qualified graduated specialists responsible for the present and the future of their countries. Modern technical University does not exist without active scientific and technology activity. NRU MPEI performs a broad spectrum of fundamental, research, methodical, and applied investigations in many scientific directions. MPEI students actively participate in scientific researches. Lots of their developments were awarded the medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the diplomas and medals of Russian Government, RAO "Russian EES," OAO Mosenergo, etc. MPEI performs specialists' education on the Federal Program "Education of Managers for Organizations of the Russian Federation." There is an Educational Center for Energetic Branch in the field of management in MPEI. This Center is functioning based on the European Union program and is established by the international consortium consisting of Greece, Denmark, and Ireland's industrial and educational organizations. The critical point of the pedagogical process is the student's physical and mental development. The humanitarian component is an integral part of modern specialist training. MPEI House of Culture and its/ groups (of students and teachers) are well-known both in Moscow and beyond our country's borders.
The student interests behind the MPEI university's administration are defended by the student trade-union organization, which motto "We are always in two steps from you". The MPEI Students Trade-Union Committee's top-priority tasks are to ensure the optimal conditions for the students in getting the high-quality knowledge, to guarantee the students living in the hostel, to offer the physical development and various cultural leisure, to perform the financial support in the complicated living situations.
