Hanze UAS actively participates in projects to support higher education institutions abroad with the enhancement of their curricula and the strengthening of their institutional capacity. Besides, the university has a strong focus on Energy and Healthy Ageing, resulting in various projects and program tracks that focus on these themes. Last but not least, the university also has a strong focus on entrepreneurship. Students are strongly encouraged and facilitated to work on developing their entrepreneurial skills by, for instance, setting up their own company as part of the curriculum.
Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS), Groningen, has establishments in Groningen, Assen, Leeuwarden, and Amsterdam, with approximately 26000 students and 3000 staff members. The name Hanze UAS relates to a once driving force in terms of business and trade. Many years ago, the Hanseatic League was essential for international trade, cooperation, and contacts. This was the case in the Netherlands and many other countries, such as Germany and Scandinavia. The Netherlands had many Hanseatic cities, including Groningen.
Therefore, the term ''Hanze'' can be firmly related to the past and the city of Groningen. The logo also has historical aspects to it. The slanted gothic letter H in Orange can be found everywhere Hanze UAS related.
Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen trains qualified and committed professionals. It is an environment in which students, research-lecturers, and companies meet and learn from each other. Teaching, research, and professional practice are closely connected. Assignments from professional practice are aligned with the teaching methods for each degree program. Students, research-lecturers, and partners in the professional fieldwork together to solve issues close by and far away. Learning and working remain connected to each other throughout life.
Hanze UAS feels that it has a special mission to make everybody in the Hanze learning community aware of their social responsibility. The university of applied sciences encourages employees and students to develop and make a valuable contribution to society.
Energy and Healthy Ageing are the strategic areas in which Hanze UAS has a high profile. These major social concerns are primary focus areas in the university's university's educational courses and research. Entrepreneurship is also a key concept and is intrinsically associated with the name Hanze. The term refers to the relationship between education and practical application and the vital connection with the business community in the region and at the national and international levels. Besides, Hanze UAS provides a safe and ambitious learning environment where people encourage one another to be the best that they can be. Hanze UAS is at the forefront of encouraging the most talented students and employees.
Hanze UAS is in constant contact with companies and institutions we collaborate with, focusing on education and research. Collectively, we respond actively to developments in the Northern Netherlands. In 1994, the Hanze University'sUniversity's concern that the youth in developing countries weren'tweren't able to access quality vocational training marked the start of the Hanze Centre for Development Cooperation (HCDC). The HCDC shares the responsibility for education and projects in developing countries with the Hanze University'sUniversity's students and staff.
For Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, its activities' internationalization is one of the two strategic themes for the coming years. We feel we must prepare our future graduates for a professional career in an international and multicultural environment. We aim at improving the quality of our education by making sure that all our students are introduced to the international dimension of their chosen field of study, are allowed to learn foreign languages, and are stimulated to be internationally mobile.
At the same time, Hanze UAS wants to open its doors to international students and teaching staff. Our international programs, which are taught in English or German, provide exciting possibilities for students worldwide to take their degree with us or do a certificate program. International degree programs prepare students for an international career. Students worldwide take classes together with Dutch students, so international programs provide a truly multicultural study environment. Hanze UAS attracts foreign teaching staff permanently and as guest lecturers to enhance the international dimension.
