  1. We use the term University in the medieval sense of a community of like-minded scholars, pursuing shared interests under the guidance of a ‘tutor‘ who may well be students themselves. Subjects can be academic, general interest, or hobbies. In case you were wondering, there are no exams and no homework. Just the joy of learning. The Third Age refers to the life period of active retirement. This is a time of creativity and learning for older people. It follows the first age of childhood and formal education and the second age of working life. There is no entry requirement for membership of U3A and no distinction in status between tutors and students. Most tutors come from within the membership. They tap great reservoirs of learning and experience amongst members who, by tutoring classes, pass on their knowledge for the benefit of all. In addition to the educational aspects, U3A provides the platform for comprehensive physical and social programs. Activities include exercise classes, choir, band, archery, theatre, and bus trips. Being in your third age is the only criterion needed to become a member. No educational qualifications are required. There is no restriction on age or residential address. All the leaders and committee people give their time to their U3As voluntarily. Being a mutual self-help organization, the costs of running U3A are kept very low. U3A Pine Rivers Inc. will take reasonable technical and organizational precautions to prevent the loss, misuse, or alteration of your personal information. 3. The Rivers School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for students in grades 6 through 12. At Rivers, we take pride in the fact that we are not a “one size fits all” school. Our talented faculty is driven by the belief that each student is unique, and we focus our work on each student’s journey to find and develop his or her unique attributes and passions. We offer a rigorous program in a caring, supportive community where each child is known, understood, and valued. We know that this approach propels our students to live happy, productive lives, and we work to that end every day. “Excellence with Humanity” drives everything we do. From our comprehensive advisor program to diversity initiatives, from an innovative interdisciplinary curriculum to programs that enhance student leadership - The Rivers School prepares students for an ever-changing world. Rivers challenges students to attain their highest levels of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. We set high standards and expect students to participate actively in their learning. We cultivate a caring, respectful, and collaborative environment that encourages student performance, including demonstrating logical thought, informed and articulate voice, creative vision, and integrity. Rivers is dedicated to preparing its students for leadership in a world that needs their talents, imagination, intellect, and compassion. Our school is a community that upholds the values expressed in the Rivers seal: “Integritas et Sedulitas.” We value responsibility, honesty, compassion, diversity, and respect, acknowledging that our actions have a profound impact on ourselves, on others, on the environment, and the community as a whole. We acknowledge that the diligent pursuit of intellectual, creative, physical, and moral excellence is essential to one’s character strength. The Rivers School believes that excellence in education and social development requires a diverse, inclusive, and socially responsible community. We seek students, trustees, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and provide opportunities for a broad range of experiences and viewpoints. As a community, we encourage students and adults to value themselves, celebrate differences, promote mutual respect, and participate with confidence and courage in a global society. At Rivers, you will establish lifelong friendships — with students and faculty and develop a thirst for lifelong learning. When the time comes, you will work closely with our highly respected and devoted college counselors, whose individualized attention results in excellent college choices for our graduates. The Rivers Middle School brings together enthusiastic, caring teachers and a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere to educate early adolescents. With generally 120 students in grades 6, 7, and 8, the Middle School offers a personal, integrated, and exciting program, creating a community of learners in which young people feel comfortable taking intellectual risks and growing both as students and individuals. The core group of Middle School teachers and administrators has spent years working with early adolescents and perfecting a program that best suits the age group. Early adolescents are just discovering how to move from concrete to formal thinking. They begin the middle school years learning through direct contact with ideas, events, and people as they transition into being more formal and creative thinkers able to visualize, conceptualize, hypothesize, reason, and deal in the abstract. Our program is designed to consider the many needs of this age group and is structured to grant students a level of freedom to explore. This environment provides students with more opportunities for responsibility so they can be challenged in a rigorous environment while also learning through experience. Middle School teachers value the partnership between home and school. Every sixth, seventh, and eighth-grader is assigned an advisor who will serve as a mentor and friend throughout their Middle School experience. Each multi-grade advisor group consists of one advisor and approximately eight students. Daily contact between advisors and advisees promotes trust and friendship. Agendas and activities within meeting times vary but include goal setting, portfolio organization, check-ins, thought-provoking conversations about world and community events, and other group-building initiatives. 6. In 1992 as a group of concerned parents, driven by an urgent concern for the futures of our children, we started a school where children could grow in knowledge and stature within a wholesome and Godly environment. We started with 16 students and we've since grown to just over 150 students, ranging from Grade R to Grade 12. We operate as a ministry wing of Spirit life Ministries and serve parents and children of all denominations. We provide education to all students, not discriminating based on race, color, national or ethnic origin. We adhere to the Statement of Faith of the Spirit life Christian Church. The school is established on the church grounds situated within the old Klipriver nature reserve on sixty acres of natural parkland and river frontage. We are equipped with an Outdoor Amphitheatre, Volleyball Field, Netball/Soccer field, and Mini - Olympic size poo. We have an Adventure Centre geared with Climbing, Abseiling, obstacle courses, and team-building. We also have tuck shop facilities. We also offer daycare facilities. We are registered with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) since 1992 and meets all its Governance, Curriculum Standards, Infrastructure, Health, and Safety requirements. Academic Teachers are registered with the South African Council of Educators (SACE). We hope that our website will answer many of your questions but should you require more information, please feel free to contact us directly. We believe that the foundation of a sound education includes Godly morals and values and we strive to instill excellent work ethics, integrity, and accountability within every learner. Outdoor adventure promotes active learning through direct experience and develops leadership, risk-taking, and problem-solving skills. Students will learn to maximize their potential and work cooperatively with one another, all within a safe and environmentally friendly framework. 3RCA will take students into the wilderness for these experiences, expeditions, and campouts Their intellectual, physical, spiritual, social, and moral development will be challenged, resulting in personal growth and social awareness that develops skills for life and the world of work. We will endeavor to build self-confidence and self-esteem --- fundamental to any young person’s development. Little Saints Nursery School operates as the feeder school for 3 Rivers Christian Academy. It was established in 1997 on the school’s grounds and today it boasts beautiful classroom and playground facilities tucked away in the greens surrounding the Klip River. Little Saints serves parents and children of all denominations, not discriminating based on race, color, national or ethnic origin. Our teachers love the Lord, and lavish their love and attention on the children, providing a safe, Godly and disciplined environment for them to flourish in their relationships and grow in self-esteem. The main emphasis at 3 Rivers Christian Academy is to motivate the students to achieve their highest potential in both the spiritual and academic fields. To accomplish this, several incentive programs have been implemented and serve as motivational factors in the student’s school day. Parent orientation and conferences promote a good understanding between parents or guardians and the faculty/administration of this school. Every parent is required to participate in these informative and helpful programs. Any lack of parental involvement of the above might jeopardize the re-enrolment of the student. Another area of parental involvement that is vital for the progress of the child is in the modeling of character traits. Students will learn more about each of the character traits listed in the policies’ file at each level as they progress through the curriculum. As the parents display and model these same character traits in their homes as an example to their children, they will reinforce what their children are being taught at school.

View full school
