  1. National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) was established in 1953 as Provincial Taiwan Maritime Technology College. Eleven years later, in 1964, we became a maritime college that offered bachelor's and master's degrees in various maritime fields. During this period, the college was supported by the Taiwan Provincial Government of the Republic of China. In 1979, we became a national institution and were renamed the National Taiwan College of Marine Science and Technology. A decade later, in 1989, the college became a full-fledged university. At present, NTOU has seven colleges - Maritime Science and Management, Life Sciences, Ocean Science and Resource, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Ocean Law and policy, and Humanities and Social Sciences. These Colleges house 22 undergraduate departments,11 graduate institutes,27 master programs, and 20 doctorate programs. The University has undergone significant growth and change. It is now recognized as one of the nation's most important centers of high learning and scholarship, especially in the marine sciences, maritime studies, and fisheries. Responding to society's changing needs and the widening interests of our students, we are developing into a comprehensive university with a unique maritime focus. We aim to be an internationally known institution of higher education. Towards this end, our social sciences and liberal arts programs are developing as a core part of education at NTOU. The University is rapidly moving toward providing a positive learning environment and culture for intellectual and personal growth, with ocean interests as our unique characteristic. We have been conducting a series of experiments related to "fish reproductive physiology," "sex differentiation and sex change in fish," "reproductive endocrinology and reproduction in coral," "hormone regulation in fish," "maturation mechanism in fish," "environmental physiology and immunity in fish," and "reproductive physiology in prawns" in the past 20 years at the National Taiwan Ocean University. The researches are focusing on marine animals, essential aquaculture species (black porgy and grouper). The most significant contribution to the scientific community is the studies of "reproductive biology and physiology in aquatic animals" (representative work). A series of experiments were conducted, such as sex differentiation, sex change mechanism, regulation of reproductive hormones, gonadal development and growth, gametogenesis, maturation, and reproduction control. We have many important new findings and significant contributions to the theory and applied aspects of reproductive physiology.
  2. KMOU is the only maritime-specialized university in Korea, leading the marine industry, which is Korea's core industry, and contributing to the nation's economy. Since its foundation in 1945, we have educated many marine human resources focusing on maritime affairs, engineering, sciences, and social sciences. There are no boundaries or obstacles which KMOU cannot overcome as we live in the ocean. Over Korea to the world! KMOU plays a central role in helping Korea navigate through the five oceans and six continents. KMOU, based on Jinhae Marine Officer School established in 1919, was developed in 1945 by Dr. Lee Si-Hyeong, who pursued Korea's development through the sea. The footprint made by KMOU for the past 90 years is just the history of Korea's development and growth in the sea. KMOU is the place where young people who want to challenge the ocean study and research. They want to pour their passion into the ocean, which is the future of the world's people. Based on KMOU's traditional honor and prestige, we pursue our goal of being a world-class maritime research-oriented university and training the future global ocean leader. KMOU campus has world-class facilities and infrastructures. The construction of the ocean cluster in cooperation with related public institutes will help KMOU contribute to more innovative and forward-looking marine education and research. The university is one of the earliest and prestigious national post-secondary educational institutions in South Korea and the only post-secondary institution specializing in marine sciences and engineering. Please watch KMOU's future direction as we lead Korea's marine education and marine studies' globalization. We will be reborn as the world-class think-tank contributing to the realization of a new marine world equipped with advanced technologies. Mainly, alumni of this university who made their careers with the sea have played a vital role in making our country one of the top ten ocean-going countries in the world through their painstaking efforts in all maritime affairs. The advanced countries of the world have already entered an era of competition over resources that the ocean provides, such as logistic routes, minerals, foods, tourism, energy, etc. Now we must turn our focus from the continent to the ocean and prepare ourselves for competition in the ocean age. Young men and women who dream of a bright future!Citizens who love Korea Maritime and Ocean University! The ocean is our new continent. The vast blue sea is open to the future of the human race. Put aside a land-oriented bias and discover an area of limitless possibility in the ocean. Discover the opportunities and challenges of the ocean, which is even more significant than the combined continents. At the center of the new ocean, age stands Korea Maritime and Ocean University.
