      1. We are a new academy, and the second school to open under the Mossbourne name. The flagship school, in Central Hackney, has become synonymous with educational excellence – achieved through outstanding teaching, a culture of ‘no excuses, and high expectations of students and staff. At Mossbourne Victoria Park, we will continue and build on that ethos to provide an inspiring and rewarding education for all our students. Secondary school students are at a time of their lives when they benefit greatly from clear values and consistent guidance. It is a challenge for schools everywhere to provide this stability in a changing educational, social and economic landscape. At Mossbourne, our values are deeply rooted in a belief that all students can succeed. We define that success as their ability, upon completing their formal education, to join society as informed, curious and independent participants. Our students must leave with first-rate qualifications, as these will open doors to future opportunities and careers. Equally important, however, is that our students are confident, are interested in the world, and able to think for themselves. To achieve this, learning, rather than teaching, is at the heart of everything we do. Our school day is structured to include time for students to sit and work independently, to consolidate and extend what they have learned, as well as to prepare for upcoming lessons. Our staff are subject experts and focus on how to ensure all students are supported and challenged. Indeed, staff training is a sustained and meaningful part of school life. Finally, we will never tolerate any behavior that disrupts the learning of our students. All applications to Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy must be made through the Learning Trust. In year 7 this process begins with parents filling out the Common Application Form which is available online or through your child’s primary school in September / October of year 6. Our students study a curriculum that is broad and balanced. The main focus is a mastery in the core areas of English, Maths, and Science, in which students will spend over half of lesson time. This curriculum allows a balance between academic, creative, and practical subjects and ensures that students develop a range of knowledge and skills. Students will also participate in two Guided Reading sessions each week. Students are grouped by reading age and read, discuss and review literature that will challenge and inspire them. These sessions are led by a member of staff but the onus is very much on the students to develop their oracy through public reading and debate/discussion. In the Enrichment Programme, students join clubs and societies to broaden their horizons and extend their skills and areas of interest. From Debating, Chess, Origami, Badminton, Film Club, Biological Drawing, Music Appreciation, and many more, students can choose from a wide and exciting range of Enrichment activities. As a parent or carer, you play a key role in helping your child to stay safe online, here you will find tips, advice, guides, and resources to help keep your child safe online. You don’t need to be an expert on the internet to help keep your child stay safe online. We recognize that all staff, including volunteers, have a full and active part to play in protecting our children and young people from harm. At Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy, we aim to ensure that all students achieve their full potential, both academically and socially. We are committed to meeting the needs of students with special educational needs and aim to ensure that all students have access to a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum as possible, including activities outside of the classroom. Following the Revised Code of Practice 2014, we recognize that children have special educational needs if they have a “learning difficulty which calls for special educational provision” to be made for them. The Academy’s SEND Inclusion Policy sets out the school’s aims, principles, and strategies for the identification and support of these students. All appeals are managed by the Hackney Learning Trust. If you have not been offered a place at Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy (MVPA), the law entitles you to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of both the school and the Local Authority. The appeals are held in Hackney. should include any evidence or supporting material with your appeal form and you must give them grounds for your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form. Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you state the grounds for your appeal. You may appeal for more than one school. View full school
      2. Mossbourne Riverside Academy is one of a group of academies arising from the realization of Sir Clive Bourne’s dream to provide the children of Hackney with an outstanding education. Mossbourne Riverside Academy follows a formula of high expectations, doing the simple things right, and holds the belief that all children can succeed. Our calm working atmosphere helps to create well-rounded pupils who excel academically, in the arts, and on the sporting field. In September 2016 our new building opened on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It is here on this prestigious site that we will expand over the years to become a three-form entry primary academy. Our first cohorts of pupils will be very special because they will be the example to all future years and will be pioneers in making another outstanding Mossbourne academy. Mossbourne Riverside Academy is an inclusive academy where we focus on the well-being and progress of every pupil and where all members of our community are of equal worth. We believe that the Equality Act provides a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality, and fostering good relationships between people. It also ensures that we continue to tackle issues of disadvantage and underachievement of different groups. We recognize that these duties reflect international human rights standards as expressed in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities, and the Human Rights Act 1998. Our governors ensure clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction. They hold our leaders to account for the educational performance of our pupils and the performance management of staff. They oversee financial performance and make sure our money is well spent. Mossbourne Riverside Academy is committed to serving its community. It recognizes the multi-cultural, multi-faith, and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. It also understands the vital role it has in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalization by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them. It follows equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality political or financial status, or similar. Mossbourne Riverside Academy is dedicated to preparing pupils for their adult life beyond the formal curriculum and ensuring that it promotes and reinforces British values to all its pupils. English is taught through the use of reading Write Inc. (RWI) and Literacy and Language all children in KS1 and Reception are grouped according to their reading ability. Maths is taught using the Mathematics Mastery approach. As an academy, we also use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to enhance our curriculum. IPC is effective in enabling pupils to apply skills and knowledge acquired in English and Maths, and other curriculum areas purposefully and concretely. The school has linked all topic areas to the key skills children should learn in Science, History, Geography, DT, Computing, Art, and Music/Dance. Our children are assessed against the key objectives using a tracking tool called Classroom Monitor. This gives us a clear picture of the children’s progress against their age expected targets. The internet hosts many exciting opportunities for education. The online world is a wonderful place for young people to explore with unpredicted opportunities for learning and creativity, but just like the real world, there are risks and dangers they should be aware of and which we should all act to protect them from. At Riverside, we encourage the use of technology as an important part of our pupils’ development but always want them to spend their time online safely. We have strong and constantly updated filters in place to protect and govern internet use. The best way to protect your children online is to be informed yourself and make it part of your day-to-day life. We spend years training our children to cross the road and stay safe away from strangers in the outside world in all the daily little messages we give them before we ever let them out there of their own. Training them to be safe online should be an equal part of these safety messages, after all, they can be out on the ‘worldwide web’ from a very young age, unsupervised at times. The Mossbourne Riverside Parent Association – (MRPA) is a committee of parents who believe in full support of our children’s education. The committee was formed to assist and support the Academy in providing the best for its pupils. View full school
      3. Mossbourne Parkside Academy is a happy, stimulating, and caring place and staff expect high standards of behavior and good manners throughout the school. Our teaching staff also recognize that each of our learners is unique. Teachers rigorously track children’s attendance, behavior for learning, and achievement to ensure that there is a focused climate for learning for every pupil in our care. Children get one chance with their education and, at Mossbourne Parkside Academy, we want this to be the very best. There is a driving determination to ensure that every pupil in the school reaches their full potential. Our Academy is fortunate enough to be part of the Mossbourne Federation, which includes one of the country’s leading secondary Academies. It is my intention, and that of the leadership team, to create a beacon of primary education with a consistent and forward-thinking approach. The whole Academy is incredibly passionate about ensuring that our pupils are nurtured in the belief and determination that all perceived ‘barriers’ to learning can be eliminated and that there are ‘no excuses. Every child is capable of achieving a high academic standard and, in turn, becoming the future upstanding members of our local community. Mossbourne Parkside Academy creates well-rounded individuals. All learners, regardless of ability, benefit from the innovative and enlightened approaches to teaching and learning within the Academy. The Mossbourne Federation has raised educational achievement to the very highest levels. Working in the local community and within a strong partnership of Hackney schools, Mossbourne Parkside Academy raises aspirations, expectations, and achievement for all pupils and continues to contribute to the development of educational excellence in Hackney. Mossbourne Parkside Academy is committed to serving its community. Mossbourne Parkside Academy is dedicated to preparing pupils for their adult life beyond the formal curriculum and ensuring that it promotes and reinforces British values to all its pupils. The Government announced that it is providing additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (P.E.) and sport in primary schools. This funding will be allocated to primary school Principals. The money must be used to improve the provision of P.E. and school sport. P.E. and school sport play a very important part in the life of Mossbourne Parkside Academy. We believe that P.E. and school sport contribute to the holistic development of our children and, through participation, our children build and learn more about our key values such as respect, co-operation, and kindness for themselves and others. Our overall aim is to raise standards in P.E. and school sport, increasing the participation and opportunities offered to our children. We aim to provide higher quality lessons and improved learning for all. The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding given to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. The intended effect of this funding is to provide targeted support to help accelerate progress and raise attainment so that all children reach their full potential. This is a successful Academy and your child plays their part in making it so. We aim for an environment that enables and encourages all members of the community to reach out for excellence. For our children to gain the greatest benefit from their education, it is vital that they attend regularly and your child should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. It is very important therefore that you make sure that your child attends regularly and this Policy sets out how together we will achieve this. At the heart of the work of every primary school class is a continuous cycle of planning, quality first teaching, and assessment which takes account of the wide range of abilities, aptitudes, and interests of the children. The majority of children will learn and progress within these arrangements. Those children whose overall attainments and achievement in specific subjects fall significantly outside the expected range may have Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND). Active Feet Active Minds (AFAM) provides Mossbourne Parkside Academy with sports provision and PE lessons for the children. We have a pupil-centered approach and ensure all pupils are progressing in their sporting activities in a fun and safe environment, along with assisting the pupils to reach their full potential in sport. 7.

Mossbourne Parkside Academy is committed to serving its community.
