Lexington Christian Academy is Greater Boston's most established independent college preparatory day and boarding school, integrating faith and learning. Founded in 1946, LCA is committed to a fusion of academic and experiential learning. The school focuses on educational innovation as it prepares students to rise boldly to our times' challenges. Our curriculum builds on a foundation of necessary skills to cultivate the concepts and intellectual skills needed to understand the arts, humanities, and sciences. We emphasize the conceptual, abstract, and critical thinking problem-solving and independent study. We offer a challenging college preparatory curriculum that includes honors, Advanced Placement, and independent study courses that encourage academic and personal discipline. We are committed to vital athletic programs while also recognizing that Athletics exists side-by-side with our Christian institution's academic commitment. We seek to develop student-athletes that are successful in the classroom and on the playing fields. Efforts are made to have athletic schedules interfere minimally with classes, extra help sessions, and other events that contribute to an LCA student's complete experience. We hope that our student-athletes are passionately devoted to their endeavors in the classroom and exhibit that same passion in the fields of competition. Our program encourages students to practice skills and the discipline to be intuitive. We strive to balance individual expression with theory and technique and connect to an awareness of art's role in society and celebrate it. We see our role as offering opportunities. Some students follow a passion; others try something for the first time. By fostering acting, interpreting, drawing, sculpting, painting, singing, and playing instruments, our arts faculty challenge students to discover their creative potential. We joyfully encourage, challenge, acknowledge, and direct students towards understanding and applying their creative gifts. Gifts to the Academy Fund support the everyday operations of LCA, while endowment and capital gifts make LCA's future success confident. Together, our investment in LCA ensures bright futures for our students. Highly motivated students who have a diagnosed, mild learning disability may be admitted to the Academy on the condition that they participate in the Special Education Learning Center's tutorial support. Middle School and High School students accepted to LCA with this conditional support must have a current Educational/Psychological evaluation made available to the school, identifying and documents the needs. This support service provides one to one sessions that address each student's specific educational needs in the context of their college preparatory classroom curriculum. Methodologies are tailored to students and their diagnoses. Education Plans are updated annually, and reports of progress are provided each marking period. Students transition out of support when they achieve their Learning Objectives in a given year. LCA does not offer a modified curriculum or remedial instruction. At LCA, we believe that college is not the final destination but rather a stop on the path to a meaningful life of purpose and value. As a result, we have developed an approach to College Advising that is personalized, process-oriented, and designed to help each student find the school that fits him or her best. Lexington Catholic High School represents a long tradition of Catholic education in the Bluegrass region. The school was formed in 1951 by merging two secondary schools, St. Catherine Academy (founded in 1823) and Lexington Latin High (founded in 1924). The photos below were taken just before the destruction of the old building. LCHS moved from Limestone Street to its new and current home on Clays Mill Road in 1957. The school crest is a simple design embodying the ideals and principles on which the school is founded. The lamp of knowledge on top of the emblem symbolizes the school, to which the students turn for help and guidance. The shield joins the four main principles around which school life centers: The dove symbolizes the truth of God around which the Catholic faith revolves. The "M" stands for Mary, Mother of God, through whom all of our actions are performed. The plumed helmet represents the knights and ladies whose virtues the students are expected to emulate. The knot symbolizes the state of Kentucky. This emblem of the binding union was chosen because of the state motto, "United we stand, divided we fall." The LLH and the SCA on either side of Lexington Catholic represent Lexington Latin High and Saint Catherine's Academy. Lexington Catholic was formed from the merging of these two schools. In 1954, assistant principal Father Kampsen developed these ideas for the crest. In collaboration with Sister Bernadette, SCN, he transferred the ideas to paper. The seal was adopted as the official coat-of-arms that year and can be found on the senior rings from 1954 to the present. Lexington Catholic adopted this updated version of the crest in 2000. Lexington Catholic High School serves as an integral part of the Roman Catholic Diocese mission of Lexington. We serve students of all faith traditions by providing high quality, Catholic, college-preparatory education that fosters the spiritual ideals and moral values of the Gospel.
