The educational goal of the Kurume Institute of Technology is to "foster engineers rich in humanity" and to provide assistance and services needed for individual students. The Institution established our newest department, The Department of Education and Creation Engineering, in April 2007. We begin to send our graduates into the field of education with in-depth scientific knowledge. The Master's Course in Automotive Systems Engineering aims to produce engineers requested by automobile industries recently gathered on Kyushu Island. Our graduate students can obtain the certificate of the First- Class Auto Mechanic through the program. All the undergraduate departments offer courses that students can choose from, and each department helps them acquire a wide range of scientific knowledge in the latest facilities. The course aims to foster professional engineers specializing in the research, development, design, and production of the latest automotive technology and electronic control technology. The faculty members are from major automobile manufacturers, JARI (Japan Automobile Research Institute), and other specialists with long practical experience in research, development, and design in automobile engineering. The course aims to produce professional engineers specialized in energy engineering with a wide range of knowledge and skills in related fields of study. The programs include the following three areas: thermal and fluid dynamics energy engineering, energy equipment systems engineering, and architecture/environment systems engineering. The faculty members are specialists with vast experience in construction enterprises and specialists in energy and energy resources and energy dynamics. We welcome those who wish to activate this country with scarce resources. Technological innovation in the area of the IT Industry is quicker than ever. This program will foster professional engineers specialized in IT technology with direct contact with excellent faculty members and practical educational programs. When students' needs and the IT Industry's needs are considered and matched, their IT skills are upgraded to obtain IT specialist certificates. The program also provides courses in Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, fundamental engineering, and practical English. Students can also enhance their skills by assisting professors as Teaching Assistants of undergraduate information courses and other related seminars.
Kurume University is established as Kyushu medical school in 1928, and it came into being with the establishment of the Faculty of Commerce. It has developed as a comprehensive private university, and it consists of 6 faculties with 13 departments, five graduate schools, and 21 research centers. We have two campuses, two hospitals, high school and junior high school in Kurume city. Kurume University has developed as a comprehensive private university since it was established as Kyushu Medical School in 1928. It now consists of 6 faculties with 13 departments, four graduate schools, and 21 research centers. Our principal purpose is: To search for truth and justice, To aim for human love and respect, To foster people who will have practical knowledge, noble ideals, and a deep sense of humanity, To brighten the regional culture and show its brilliant results to the world and contribute to the world's peace. While respecting the traditions of 90 years, new faculties and departments have also been added to meet today's society's various needs. In addition to being active in developing unique projects in the field of research, we highly encourage university-industry-government collaborations. Kurume University also has a Senior High School and Junior High School. Their purpose is to educate students who will be ambitious and who will be an asset to society. Kurume City, where our University is situated in the vast direct region called the "Chikugo Plain" in the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture in Kyushu. The City sits as if embraced by the "Chikugo River," the largest river in Kyushu and one of Japan's three wildest rivers. It is a beautiful town suitable for research and study. Kurume University has two campuses in Kurume City. The Asahi-machi Campus is older and is situated on the south bank of the Chikugo River. This campus houses the Graduate School of Medicine, School of Medicine, University Hospital, School of Medical Technology, and nine research centers. The Mii Campus is located in Mii-machi in the eastern part of Kurume City. It houses five faculties (Literature, Human Health, Law, Economics, Commerce), three graduate schools (Comparative Studies of International Culture and Societies, Psychology, Business Administration), and 11 research centers. The Kurume University Medical Center, affiliated with the Kurume University School of Medicine, was founded in July 1994 to provide advanced medical services for people in the community. Located in Kokubu-machi, in the eastern part of Kurume city, the center is equipped with modern medical facilities. The center, which first consisted of 14 clinical departments and 100 beds, has been growing year by year, reaching 17 clinical departments and 300 beds in 1996. In close cooperation with Kurume University Hospital, the center aims to offer highly specialized medical services. The Kurume University Rehabilitation Center, located in the Kurume University Medical Center at Kokubu-machi, Kurume city, was established in April 1998 with the latest computerized rehabilitation facilities. The center was founded to provide the appropriate rehabilitation treatment for disabled patients treated at both Kurume University Hospital and the Medical Center. The rehabilitation center plays an essential role as an educational and instructive rehabilitation center for other rehabilitation establishments in the Fukuoka prefecture's southern area. The rehabilitation center is also widely known as a leader in rehabilitation biomechanics of musculoskeletal disorders. The Kurume University Medical Library was constructed with 2,830 square meters of floor space in a three-story building on the Asahi-machi campus in 1967. The library houses about 113,000 volumes and 122,000 current medical journals. The original library was severely damaged by a disastrous flood when the Chikugo River overflowed its banks in 1953. Significant contributions from faculty members and alumni and gifts from many sources outside the University permitted complete re-establishment.
