  1. Kingsley is an independent school in Toronto, ON, providing an enhanced educational experience for elementary school students. Since 1981, we have been offering individualized learning, smaller class sizes, and the option of a full-day or half-day kindergarten program. Kingsley is a not-for-profit, non-religious organization with registered Canadian charity status and governed by a Board of Directors. Our school community allows every child to be seen, heard, and respected every day. Through I.D.E.A (Inquiry, Discovery, Exploration, Analysis), we help each individual engage in the learning process. Educator and visionary Ursula Morton longed for a school that could offer an affordable alternative to public education and not an elite private school. In 1981, Kingsley was born. We value a consistent and fair approach to learning. Its origins are found in the teachings of Dr. Haim Ginott. Dr. Ginott first came to public attention in the early 1960s when his book Between Parent and Child remained on the American best-seller list for over sixty weeks. Although Dr. Ginott died in the 1970s, many of his students (notably Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish) continue his work. Kingsley goes beyond the provincial curriculum offering smaller class sizes, enriched music, and French for all students. Kingsley follows the provincial guidelines. We meet and often exceed the provincial standards in all subjects. Our enriched program, taught by specialists, includes French, Music, Art, and Physical Education, beginning in Junior Kindergarten. Kingsley students benefit from using individual laptops, and we hold group lessons by using our SMART Board technology. We offer on-line literacy programs to track reading development and language skills. Teachers can track students at school, and parents can log-on and work with their children at home. We recognize that every learner is unique, and we see the value of every student. Our purposely small class sizes ensure that every teacher interacts and engages with every student every single day. We aim to give students the skills to teach themselves and empower them to reach their potential. Building relationships, learning to understand themselves, their actions and interactions are the basis for healthy character development. Our seamless day provides students with a balance of nurturing and academics. Our school community allows the child to be seen, heard, and respected every day. Through Inquiry, Discovery, Exploration, and Analysis, we help each individual engage in the learning process. This same philosophy is carried through all portions of the day by our teachers, including our before- and after-care programs. Our philosophy is to recognize each student for the unique person they are. We aim to provide students with the necessary skills to teach themselves and empower each individual to reach their potential. Building relationships, learning to understand oneself, one's actions and interactions are the basis for healthy character development. Our media literacy program finds students creating and filming commercials and short dramatic pieces directly tied to our monthly character curriculum, leadership teams, or other areas of the curriculum. Our school community and love of learning are fostered by making connections to ourselves, our experiences, and building relationships. Our program also includes "Reading Buddies," where classes connect to share books, read together, and for one another. An extension of this is included in the Forest of Reading program centered around Canadian children's authors. Kingsley Primary School follows the provincial directives. Students receive a report card three times per year, followed by a parent-teacher interview. Our small class sizes allow teachers the time and space to provide personal assistance to each student in the classroom. Each pupil has the opportunity to receive positive, challenging and interactive, and hands-on learning. Reasonable goals for the mastery of strong necessary skills are tailored to each student's needs and revised regularly. Classes regularly take field trips and host classroom visitors. Our teachers are easy to contact and will proactively communicate with you if there are any additional learning or social supports recommended for your child. We believe that early intervention and parental awareness is key to helping students reach their potential. View full school
  2. We are the world in one school and that makes our school both exciting and unique. We have over 430 children aged 2-11 and they come from over 35 countries. Between us, we speak over 30 languages so we are a very talented, multilingual school. We are located in the heart of the Granby area of Toxteth and are at the hub of the local community. We have Granby Children’s Centre on site and together we seek to serve and work with our families as well as support other schools and settings. Our visions and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. Respect Equality Self-Worth Co-operation Our school motto, ‘Learning together, respecting each other’ sums up our approach to life here. All of us are learning and we are on a journey together, supporting each other and celebrating all we have in common as well as our differences. Kingsley Community school is in a culturally diverse area and we are proud to promote and celebrate our different backgrounds and beliefs. The values of Mutual Respect and understanding, Democracy, The Rule of Law, and Individual Liberty are at the heart of what we do: We always try to give everyone a fair chance We always try to treat each other with respect We always try to be the best we can We always try to work together, helping each other are our core values Our children know and understand that it is expected that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource, a religious belief. Children learn that their behavior choices affect their rights and those of others. Our children are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and with concern to each other, respecting the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard. We encourage pupils to take ownership of not only their school but also of their learning and progress. This encourages a sense of both personal and social responsibility. We are committed to promoting gender equality. We fully endorse UNESCO's view that’…girls’ education is essential to the achievement of quality learning to the 21st century…’ Alongside rules and laws, we promote freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs. Through the provision of a safe, supportive environment, we provide boundaries for our pupils to make choices safely. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise these safely. The importance of rules and laws, whether they be those that govern our school or our country, are referred to and reinforced often, such as in assemblies and when reflecting on behavior choices. At the start of the school year, each class discusses and sets its own Class Rules, a set of principles that are clearly understood by all and seen to be necessary to ensure that every class member can learn in a safe and ordered environment. In the Early Years, we have Nursery and Reception classes. Our youngest children come in at 2 years old, where they enter either the Yellow or the Blue Room. Most children, when they are 3years old, stay with us in the Red for the rest of their time in Nursery Class. Our phonics program is based on ‘Letters and Sounds Phase One to Four, Jolly Phonics Phase Two and Three, and Liverpool School Improvement Plans Year One and Two phonics. Pupils entering Nursery begin working within Phase One. Reception pupils are expected to be working in Phase Two and Three and usually enter Year One ready to begin Phase Four. Phonics Play and The Phonics Bug Reading Scheme fully support our phonics program. All Year one children are formally assessed in June by an unseen government Phonics Screening Check. The children are asked to decode forty words, twenty real words, and twenty ‘alien words’. Results of this screening check are reported to parents.
  3. Choosing the right school for your child can be a daunting experience. Not only do parents often struggle to work out the right balance between school size and pastoral care that won’t limit their child, but they also need to find the right educational environment to suit them. Yet fear not, choosing a small independent day and boarding school can open up big opportunities for children. So how do we define Kingsley School? Kingsley School is best described as a close-knit community, a school which helps children come out of their shell, develop friendships with other students, deepen their confidence and achieve their best academic performance. Students at Kingsley have the sensation of living and learning in a family setting rather than in a staid, distant institution. Furthermore, Kingsley positively encourages students to develop close friendships within and across year groups, building strong connections which often go on to last a lifetime. Of course, at Kingsley School, all the teachers know all the students on a first-name basis. The school has the added benefit of providing students with much smaller class sizes than a typical school, or indeed other independent schools. If your child struggles with science or finds Spanish grammar complicated, the increased personal contact and one-to-one contact help the school establish where students have difficulties. This way they can tackle the issues head-on, as opposed to leaving a student to struggle alone. Mentoring is also an active part of school life, with sixth formers nurturing and supporting year 7 students when they join senior school helping deal with any minor blip, across to reception class welcoming pre-school children for their regular transition days. Students are also positively encouraged to form an active part of the school community daily form times and assemblies involving all students and staff provides everyone the chance to voice concerns or problems, providing an active dialogue between student and teacher. Forming part of a community environment means students in schools such as Kingsley School develop a unique sense of togetherness during their entire school career. Our school prides itself is on the leadership and confidence-boosting opportunities for children in all year groups, from nursery to the sixth form. From sports to drama and music, students are challenged and encouraged to develop their interests and confidence as an individual. Students will leave school with outstanding leadership qualities and newfound confidence, standing them in good stead for future studies and life after education. We are of course biased, but strongly believe Kingsley School provides the perfect start to education, offering confidence-building extracurricular activities and a level of pastoral care which is second to none. Children feel at home and supported whilst benefiting from a tailor-made education to build upon their talents and help target areas that need additional support.
  4. At Kingsley, we aim for all children to be happy, independent, and motivated with a real love of learning. For us, academic success and personal, social, and emotional development are of equal importance and we work hard to ensure that we develop the whole child. We believe that home, school, and the local community work best in partnership to ensure that all children can reach their full potential. We provide all our children with an exciting, rich, and varied curriculum that meets their needs whilst promoting high standards. We believe in a rounded curriculum and promote a love for the arts, inquisitiveness about the world around them, and enjoyment of physical activity alongside the basic skills of communication, literacy, and mathematics. We believe that children should be encouraged to embrace challenges, take risks, be intrigued by mistakes, and become lifelong learners. We are a community school that represents a rich and diverse local population. We actively promote and encourage links with our local community and beyond to enrich everyone’s learning. It is very important to us that everyone feels valued and welcome when they come into our school. The Primary Hearing Centre is also based at Kingsley Primary School. Deaf children from all over Croydon and some neighboring boroughs come to the Centre for specialist teaching and support. The Centre is part of the centrally funded Croydon Sensory Support Service. We are a four-form entry school, with a fifth 'bulge' class currently in Year 1, 2, and 3. Each year group is led by a senior teacher who has responsibility for the day-to-day running of the year team, and who liaises with the other year group leaders to ensure continuity in children’s learning as they move through the school. The teachers in each year team work together to plan the detail of the curriculum. We also employ teaching assistants, nursery nurses, and a behavior mentor who work alongside the teaching staff, providing valuable additional support for the children. We have Pupil Support Assistants (PSAs) who work with children who have special educational needs and several teachers and bi-lingual assistants who work with children for whom English is an additional language. At Kingsley, respect for ourselves and others combined with integrity in all that we do, allows our community to feel safe to create, innovate and take responsibility for our actions. The aims of the school curriculum as stated in the Education Reform Act are to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils at the school and society and to prepare such pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. The School embraces these aims translating them into the most effective Learning and Teaching strategies. As far as is possible every opportunity is given for the children to learn through first-hand experience. Maximum use is made of the child’s natural curiosity. The teacher guides the pupil encouraging high standards in the development of the basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The needs of the children growing up in a literate and increasingly technological society are of the utmost concern to the staff. Each stage of learning is carefully planned so that from simple everyday situations children progress towards abstract notions.
  5. At Kingsley Academy, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and we also believe that every child has fantastic potential and can achieve. We seek to work collectively as a whole school community to support, educate and nurture each young person who joins the academy as they make the journey towards young adulthood. We will also support each other and work together with our partners and sponsor to learn and use the very best practices which will support our students in achieving our aims. Our vision an ambitious academy promoting academic, cultural, and social success for all. The Kingsley Academy Motto - “Make our Best Better” - means that we will not accept anything but a child’s very best efforts in everything they do. Three examples: if a piece of work is not to the standard the child is capable of producing, it must be done again behavior must always be the best a child can display working as hard as possible is the expectation at all times. The Kingsley Academy Mission statement - “Outstanding learning in every classroom and beyond, because learning changes lives” - requires that all children are enabled to learn and “make their best better”, thanks to excellent teaching and the widest possible range of opportunities inside and outside the classroom because Kingsley Academy staff know that success in school makes a profound and fundamental difference to the lives of the children in our care. The work we do in school enables our students to develop robust, resilient foundations for their future success and happiness. All students are put into teaching groups according to their ability. We judge this in Year 7 from their SATs and MiDYS test results. MiDYS are a national test base used by many schools, including all AET academies. They identify numeracy, literacy, and non-verbal reasoning skills and areas of weaknesses in the child. Data regarding progress is collected regularly and this informs our decisions about moving students to different groups. Throughout their time with us, we strive to make as many links with external partners as possible, thus opening opportunities for our students across many areas, including the arts, business and enterprise, and higher education. We are proud of our reputation for inclusiveness and our curriculum increasingly reflects this philosophy. Targets for all students, including SEND, are set high and teachers are encouraged to plan work that is differentiated but stretches and challenges all students. Each SEND student has a Pupil Passport which outlines the most appropriate methods for getting the best out of the student. We provide a range of targeted evidence-based interventions for students with additional needs. The inclusion team also works with students with behavioral and emotional challenges. Throughout their time at Kingsley Academy students will receive advice on careers and the world of work through tutor time and various events throughout the academic year. At key times, students will study a careers curriculum through the tutor time program, which allows them to look at a range of ideas such as personal identity and skills, understanding the world of work, post-16 qualifications, managing change, etc. Students are offered the opportunity to have face-to-face guidance with an impartial careers advisor.

  7. At KINGSLEY, you’ll find an engaging, enriching, and enabling environment in which your kids can discover their fullest potential. They will gain a holistic education that will empower them with the right attitudes to follow their passions and find their place in the world. Kingsley's ethos echoes the wish of every parent: for his or her child to be happy, productive, and fulfilled in life. This is why we aim to inspire curiosity and bring enriching, real-world experiences into the lives of our students. We believe resilience, self-discipline, and the ability to relate to others are more vital to achievement than IQ. We care for our students with kindness and firmness – building connections with them and making them feel valued so they can be their best selves. We invest, impart and instill positive values that will empower children to be life achievers who see the importance of living purposefully and fearlessly. We recognize that for children to become confident, engaged, innovative, reflective, and respectful individuals, that’s who we first have to be. We nurture future leaders with good character, good attitude, and discipline. Our mission is to provide an enabling learning environment for our students to attain their fullest potential and to embrace our core values – ‘Invest, Impart, Instil’. To be the global platform in fostering great character, strong values, and high achievement in all our students. Kingsley International School is a Cambridge International School which adheres to the stringent standards required for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) accreditation. We join over 10,000 schools in 160 countries that are affiliated with the international benchmark for quality education which delivers a world-class syllabus for students from primary to A-Level across the globe. What this means for Kingsley students is they will undertake a rigorous academic syllabus and eventually sit for the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 years olds which is the Cambridge IGCSE. It is important that kids feel like they matter and that they are cared for at Kingsley. We know from experience that having a secure and stable environment to learn leads to happy, confident learners. Teachers interact with students daily and take a strong interest in their concerns. They are the “first line” of support for the boys and girls here. The School also has trained pastoral staff who provide additional guiding support for kids throughout the ups and downs of their academic or personal journeys here at Kingsley. Once your child’s natural learning preference is identified, our teachers develop teaching strategies that play to his or her strengths to optimize learning. In group learning settings, our teachers make lessons accessible to all students by combining observation (visual), listening (auditory), and doing (kinaesthetic) activities. For example, students may watch a video, discuss the video, and then participate in a practical activity.

View full school
  10. View full school
  11. 12. View full school
