    Hunter College

Hunter College, located in Manhattan's heart, is the largest College in the City University of New York (CUNY). Founded in 1870, it is also one of the oldest public colleges in the country. More than 23,000 students currently attend Hunter, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 170 areas of study. Hunter's student body is as diverse as New York City itself. For more than 140 years, Hunter has provided educational opportunities for women and minorities, and today, students from every walk of life and every corner of the world attend Hunter. In addition to offering many academic programs in its prestigious School of Arts and Sciences, Hunter offers a wide breadth of programs in its preeminent Schools of Education, Nursing, Social Work, Health Professions, and Urban Public Health. Hunter offers master's nursing, nutrition, biomedical laboratory management, accounting, education, speech-language pathology, and all the liberal arts, plus several accelerated and advanced certificate programs. Talented students worldwide apply to Hunter's master's fine arts programs, including creative writing, studio art, integrated media arts, and playwriting. Hunter became a PhD-granting institution in 2008, when it was authorized to offer, jointly with the CUNY Graduate Center, doctoral degrees in biology, biochemistry, and physics. Hunter is also home to world-renowned research centers, including the Center for Translational and Basic Research (CTBR), the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Centro), and the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity. Hunter students are strongly committed to higher education. More than half hold jobs, and more than a third are the first in their families to attend college, and despite the challenges they face, their level of academic achievement is too high. Many go on to top professional and graduate programs, winning Fulbright scholarships, Mellon fellowships, National Institutes of Health grants, and other distinguished honors. Hunter graduates make a mark wherever they go, but the vast majority choose to give back locally. Suppose you come across an influential artist, author, educator, public official, health professional, researcher, scientist, or social-service professional in New York City. In that case, there is a good chance that the individual attended Hunter. The success of Hunter students is mainly due to the dedication and expertise of the Hunter faculty. With more than 1,800 full- and part-time members, the faculty is virtually unparalleled in its breadth of scholarship and artistic achievement. Many of the nation's top scholars are drawn to Hunter by its diverse and uniquely engaged student body, by the abundance of academic resources in New York, and by ever-growing opportunities for teaching and research. At Hunter, they receive prestigious national grants, contribute to the world's leading academic journals, and play significant cutting-edge research roles. They are fighting cancer, formulating public policy, enhancing our culture, advancing technology, and more. Members of the Hunter faculty are exceptional mentors, advisers, lecturers, and seminar leaders. By placing a high priority on the classroom, and by providing opportunities for undergraduates to participate in their research, members of the faculty are passing their skills and knowledge on to the next generation of scientists, public servants, artists, nurses, social workers, health care professionals, professors and engaged citizens of the world. Speaking from the White House on January 9, 2014, as he honored a Hunter student who had overcome adversity and demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, President Barack Obama called Hunter "one of the best colleges in the country." Hunter College's academic programs cover more than a hundred fields ranging from adolescence education and anthropology to nursing, urban affairs, women's studies, and Arabic. Intellectually exciting and rigorous, grounded in solid academic tradition but fully geared to the 21st century, these programs prepare students for graduate and professional school, a host of professions, and the rich, productive life of the educated citizen. A fully accredited institution of higher education, we offer curricula leading to the bachelor of arts, bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of music, bachelor of science, master of arts, master of fine arts, master of music, master of physical therapy, master of public health, master of science, master of science in education, and master of social work degrees. We also offer several accelerated (BA/MA, BS/MA, etc.) degrees and advanced certificate programs. Several CUNY doctoral programs are based at Hunter. Hunter College of the City University of New York, a distinguished public university, values learning in the liberal arts and sciences as a cornerstone of individual development and a vital foundation for a more just and inclusive society. Continuing our long tradition of expanding opportunity, we seek students from all backgrounds to engage in a rigorous educational experience that prepares them to become leaders and innovators in their communities and the world. Hunter also contributes to the intellectual discourse by supporting excellent scholarship and creative activity by its accomplished faculty. Hunter's undergraduate, graduate, and professional curricula challenge students to think critically - to approach problems from multiple perspectives, distinguish the questions each raises, and recognize the kinds of evidence each value. The College's academic programs stress the significance of human diversity, emphasize research and artistic creation, and invite students to extend their education beyond campus. We embrace our setting at the heart of New York City - we seek to draw on its energy, capitalize on its tremendous resources, weave it into the fabric of our teaching, research, and creative expression, and give back to it through our service and citizenship. Located in the heart of Manhattan, Hunter offers students a stimulating learning environment in the world's most exciting city. Since 1870, the College has led higher education to commit to academic excellence, diversity, and community. Today, Hunter's tradition meets innovation with distinguished professors, high-achieving students, and generous financial aid awards. 4. The prosperity of the nation is dependent on the development of well-rounded and productive young people. Hunter Valley Grammar School leads the way in the region. Hunter Valley Grammar School is the region’s premier independent, coeducational school for students from Preschool to Year 12. Centrally located in East Maitland, we serve families of the Hunter Valley and Newcastle. Parents are our partners at Hunter Valley Grammar School, and children are safe to be themselves in a lively, healthy learning environment. We unashamedly believe that students benefit from striving for high standards and from an education anchored in our School’s Values for Life. HGVS students enjoy outstanding facilities on 13 hectares of beautifully landscaped, tree-studded grounds. They benefit from the commitment and care of professional staff. Students can choose from a wide range of region-leading academic and co-curricular programs for their personal development and growth. Hunter Valley Grammar School is located on an expansive 32-acre park like a campus with impressive facilities. We have a particular campus, quite rare amongst schools across NSW and the envy of most. Our school is 2 hours north of Sydney, at the gateway to the Hunter Valley wine and coal mining region. It is situated a 30-minute drive from the Newcastle CBD and a 45-minute drive from Port Stephens. The area is the fastest growing regional NSW center with a diverse range of employment and recreational activities and services. Locals enjoy an all-encompassing valley lifestyle with easy access to both the mountains and beaches. Our junior school classrooms are excellent learning environments, a technology capable of interactive whiteboards, well equipped, creative, and colorful. Our outdoor learning areas and play equipment enable the children to relax and enjoy their leisure time. A wetlands and vegetable garden nurtured by our students is an example of the learning environment we have created. Primary children enjoy the soccer field and courts and gardens throughout the school. The Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools benefit university-style individual faculty buildings, each with their staff room and veranda housing lockers. All classrooms are technology capable, air-conditioned, and generously spacious for optimal learning. Coupling the physical advantages with small class sizes and quality teaching, we have the right learning environment. View full school
  5. The Prep program for four-year-old children began in 2009 with a fully-resourced classroom and custom-built playground installed exclusively for prep students to develop their gross motor skills. In 2015 after the Prep closed, the School began a Pre-Kinder class, which achieves the intended purpose of preparing students to transition to our Kindergarten. 9.
