At Henry Green we A.S.P.I.R.E for all our pupils to become confident, secure caring individuals who achieve personal success and have a lifelong love of learning. We have two forms of entry from Reception through to year 6 and a nursery, providing education for children from 3-11. We hope that our website gives you all the information you need about our school. We are always pleased to welcome visitors so please make an appointment at the school’s main office should you wish to come and visit.
At Henry Green, we provide our learners with a broad and balanced curriculum. We follow the National Curriculum 2014 and learning is linked to a particular half-termly theme. A theme provides a context to the learning, ideas for writing, and opportunities for cross-curricular links. At the start of each half-term, there will be a ‘WOW entry point’ based around that particular theme. This is a fun, engaging activity that memorably introduces the learning to motivate, enthuse and excite. For example, in the year 2 ‘Under the Sea’ theme, the children visit the London Aquarium.
In the morning, doors open at 8.40 am and will close at 8.50 am prompt. Please make sure that your child arrives at school within these times. Children arriving after 8.50 am must enter via the school office, and will be marked as late. Please try your very best to ensure that your child comes to school every day regular attendance is key to ensuring that your child makes the best possible progress. If they are feeling a little unwell, send them in as they may feel better as the day goes on. If your child is unable to attend school because of illness, please telephone the school before 9.30 am on each day of absence.
Leveled fiction and non-fiction made up largely of Oxford Reading Tree and Collins Big Cat reading schemes are available to all KS1 children to take home and are changed weekly. Children who are below the expected levels for reading in KS2 receive targeted support with this range of books from Learning Support Assistants, who guide choices and keep records on progress.
The Read, Write Inc. program is taught in ability groups throughout the school from Nursery to Year 2. A small number of children may have 1:1 as a Wave 3 intervention if they failed to make sufficient progress. Children in years 1 and 2 are assessed half termly. Children in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 are also taught aspects of this program in small groups run by Learning Support Assistants. Phonics resources consist of decodable reading books Get writing books for children to use in the phonics lessons and 1:1 tuition resources in addition to speed sounds cards, green and red high-frequency word flash cards.
