      1. Henry Cavendish is situated on two separate sites, in Balham, and Streatham. Our school caters to children from the age of three to eleven, from Nursery to Year 6. We are a happy school where the atmosphere is relaxed and conducive to high achievement. We take pride in our diverse community. We value every child as an individual and are proud of being an inclusive school and of our cultural and linguistic diversity. We work closely with parents and families. We have high expectations of all our children both socially and academically. We place great emphasis on personal, social, and emotional development by fostering caring attitudes, thoughtfulness, mutual respect, self-discipline, and self-confidence. We aim to develop each child as an individual, nurturing their strengths and talents. We give our pupils responsibility and believe that they should be encouraged to do their best in a positive, hard-working learning environment. We place a strong emphasis on creativity and ensuring that our pupils enjoy learning and have fun. Henry Cavendish is a very special place with its unique ethos. Our School Council has spent considerable time discussing what our new school motto should include. After much debate they have come up with Create, Discover, Succeed Together this motto acknowledges that we deliver creative learning opportunities where our children take an active part in their education. We firmly believe and build on children’s strengths to ensure that every child is successful. We encourage the children to support each other both academically and socially, hence our pupils do ‘succeed together. We are constantly working hard to improve and enhance the learning environment and the opportunities which we can offer our pupils. We have an excellent Early Years Foundation Stage. They also have a large shared outside learning environment and a new climbing frame which is enjoyed by every child in the Early Years. As children begin their school life, they must be provided with care and education in an environment that enables them to feel safe and supported and which extends their learning and development. We have invested heavily in our Early Years Foundation Stage to ensure that our pupils enjoy school and that parents/carers of Henry Cavendish pupils are confident that their child will receive a quality experience that supports their development and learning. Our children benefit from an amazing and enthusiastic team of staff, governors, parents, and supporters. The pupils themselves have a powerful voice within our school. Our children are exceptionally well taught and enjoy learning – they achieve well academically and emotionally through PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education, Citizenship) and SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning). We are proud to have two active and articulate School Councils, one at Balham and one at Streatham who work both independently and on joint projects. Our children know their school and can identify strengths and areas for development. Our vision for the future is to become more sustainable to ensure that our pupils understand how to look after the environment and what we as individuals can do personally and collectively. Our two ECO Action Teams are extremely proactive and meet regularly. They are passionate about sustainable development and finding solutions to improve the environmental performance of our school. We are fortunate to have solar panels on our roofs at both Balham and Streatham. The panels at our Balham site were jointly purchased with the local community, the Hyde Farm Community Action Network. At Henry Cavendish, we work together with other local educational establishments within our Cluster group of local schools and Children’s Centre. This augments opportunities and provides fresh ideas and the opportunity to share with and support one another. View full school
      2. Welcome to The Cavendish, a small, inclusive independent school for girls aged rising 3-11 and sibling boys aged rising 3-7. Non-selective at entry, we pride ourselves on our high level of pastoral care which we combine with high-quality teaching and a broad, balanced curriculum enriched with arts, languages, and sport to ensure that the needs of each child are met. Pupils go on to a range of excellent senior schools, often with scholarships. Originally a Catholic foundation, we now welcome pupils of all faiths and none. This is an exciting time to be at The Cavendish. The hard work of our staff was recently recognized in our 2016 Independent Schools Inspection when we were judged to be ‘excellent, the highest grade achievable, in every category. We’ve just expanded into a new building, which has provided five more classrooms and a 200-seater multi-use auditorium. We encourage parents wherever possible to travel to and from school in an environmentally sustainable way. We operate a supervised “stop and drop” service and many parents share car rides. We have a scooter park and are well placed for public transport. We wish to inform parents that Camden Council, after a six-month review of its cross-party strategy on the School Run, has agreed to continue with the policy of reducing dispensation permits for car parking in residential areas in the Borough. Camden will enforce this parking policy. Pay and Display bays may be available in the school vicinity, but there are very few of them. You may therefore be interested to enquire about your school travel plan, which gives advice and support on traveling to school in a more environmentally sustainable way. There are three phases to The Cavendish School which each have its characteristics and pupils move seamlessly from one section to the next. the right balance of challenge and support for each pupil throughout the school advice and assistance over time for transfer to senior school Intelligence is not fixed. We shape our brains with every new experience we encounter, every challenge we overcome, and every risk we take. And given this happens most powerfully during childhood, the message for parents and teachers is this: the difference you can make to children’s lives, to their futures, is extraordinary. Raising children who can confidently and happily make the very most of their potential in an exciting but unpredictable world is not something we can leave to chance. View full school
      3. Cavendish Primary School is a one-form entry school situated in Chiswick in the London Borough of Hounslow. We have a strong sense of community with the local area and our confident, friendly children come from a rich variety of cultures and backgrounds. Our vision is that every child should achieve their full potential and leave academically, physically, and emotionally ready to succeed at secondary school and in their future lives. The Cavendish Code instills in our children respect for each other, their teachers, and cultures other than their own. Set in spacious, leafy grounds close to the River Thames, Dukes Meadows, and Chiswick House, our school provides an ideal environment for children to learn, play, and flourish. All our pupils have an entitlement to a high-quality education that enables them to fulfill their potential and encourages them to become lifelong learners who value education. Our aim is for the children in our care to develop into confident, happy, and socially well-adjusted young people with all the skills necessary to allow them to make a positive contribution to society. We celebrate success and encourage independence. The Cavendish Code was developed in partnership with the whole school community as an expression of our school ethos. It is the basis of our school behavior code and it underpins everything we do. We believe that a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum promotes the highest standards and provides the basis through which all our learners can thrive and reach their academic, physical and aesthetic potential. We prioritize the social and emotional development of our pupils and exploit every opportunity to make meaningful cross-curricular links with the core areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. We ensure the ongoing promotion of positive values and learning characteristics so that our pupils are best prepared for the next stage in their education and for making a positive contribution to life in modern, multi-cultural Britain. In addition to the statutory curriculum, we offer children a wide range of extra and additional-curricular opportunities including frequent trips and visits, special themed events e.g. book or performing art weeks, and regularly commission various experts to come and work with the children around a range of areas e.g. artists and actors including those from indigenous cultures, e-safety experts, sports coaches, etc. View full school
      4. Cavendish school was set up in June 2000 to provide a broad and balanced education for children who have been excluded from mainstream schools. It is a happy and safe environment that provides National Curriculum subjects and a host of additional sports and activities. Often our pupils come from difficult backgrounds and we aim to help them not only benefit from learning but to build up skills and social confidence for the many years of adult life which follows. We have strong links to the appropriate services in the local community and involve Careers Advisors, the Health Service, Police, Local Colleges, and the Youth Services to widen the curriculum and provide motivation. We believe it is our responsibility to help every student to realize their potential. We place equal value on personal development, preparation for life after school, and academic progress and are committed to providing individual programs of study for all our students. We aspire to create a learning environment where all “want” to learn rather than “have” to learn by developing education tailored to the individual needs of each pupil and student. Cavendish School works hard to provide a rich and balanced educational environment that caters for the whole person-academically, vocationally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and environmentally. We aim to meet the needs of all our students as well as developing their ability to be independent responsible learners. In this way, we will raise aspirations, unlock potential and work to achieve excellence through encouraging a “can do” culture which nurtures confident and competent people. Our ethos is based on “Every day is a fresh start”. This allows for mistakes to be made and risks are taken with learning in an environment that is safe and caring. We believe that we are all different but all equal and it is our commitment to inclusion, compassion, and understanding throughout all aspects of the life and culture of the school. Our learning ethos is firmly rooted in our code of conduct and the values which arise from our purpose statement and our ethos. Our goal is that these will permeate every aspect of school life. We will continually measure and evaluate our performance using the code of conduct and the values as our guide. We value each individual and will protect their right to freedom and choice. We will work actively against discrimination and social exclusion and seek equal opportunities for all. Therefore we will respect the beliefs and practices of people of all faiths and work to ensure that the school provides a welcoming environment for all. We commit to diversity and reflect this in the way we deliver education. We consider it important to respect the school environment and our local community. We all commit to respect the environment through considering sustainability and bio-diversity. We try to exercise wisdom, integrity, and responsibility in the use of all the resources around us. The curriculum at the Cavendish School is broad and balanced in both key stages 3 and 4, but students in KS4 are offered a mixture of Entry Level, GCSE subjects, and vocational programs. The learning process supports the development of a positive identity for all students, together with respect for differences. All students undertake baseline assessments in mathematics and English at the start of their program at the school. These tests indicate strengths and weaknesses and inform individual learning programs. We are directly funded to provide education for students from the neighboring Local authorities. We are a school with a mixed population of students aged 11-16. The school provides full-time education for students in Key Stages 3 and 4 who have not conformed to conventional education. Most students have Statements of Special Education Needs or Educational Healthcare Plan, in addition to SEBD. The school provides a positive learning environment where young people are allowed to achieve and succeed. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum at KS4, with a core of GCSE subjects and vocational programs. We aim to prepare our students for a successful transition into further education or employment. 5. We have an unwavering commitment to ensuring that each child makes the best progress possible, both personally, socially, and academically. We never lose sight of the importance of basic skills in English and Maths, and the “3 Rs” are our top priority. Besides, we strive to provide excellent opportunities for children to shine in many other areas including music, sport, drama, art, languages, and ICT. We also have close links with high schools in the state and independent sectors to provide enrichment experiences for gifted and talented children, and to ensure that our children make successful transitions to their chosen high school. We believe that every child has the right to enjoy a first-class education. We want the same for your children as we want for our children - high standards of achievement, excellent behavior, a broad curriculum that enables all to shine, and an enjoyable primary school experience that prepares children well for the next stage of their lives. We know that choosing the best school for your child is a huge decision to make. That's why we are always happy to welcome you to Cavendish for a walk around and to answer any questions you might have about what we offer. The best way to see if Cavendish is right for your child is to phone us, book an appointment, and come down. We don't stage formal open mornings - we want you to be able to see us just as we are. Cavendish Primary School takes children from 3 years old up to 11 years old. To apply for a Nursery place, please complete the Cavendish Application form and return it to Cavendish Primary School. For all other admissions, Reception to Year 6 please print off the In-Year Admission Application below and return it to the address on the form as these admissions are currently handled by Manchester City Council Admissions Department. Here at Cavendish, all of our colleagues work tirelessly to ensure that all children learn through a curriculum that is engaging, exciting, challenging, and relevant to them and their surroundings. At the core of our curriculum is a dedication to our children acquiring the key skills in reading, writing, and maths and providing them a wide set of experiences to which to apply these skills to. Our curriculum seeks to be creative and allows pupils' talents to shine. We present our learning to the children through a series of questions and look to enrich their learning with trips to relevant sites in our local area and beyond and through having visitors come into school. The aim of all who work at and with Cavendish is that we will be an outstanding school because we expect and get the best from our pupils. Our children have the right to enjoy a broad and balanced primary education that equips them with the skills, knowledge, and understanding to enable them to make a successful transition to their chosen high school, and we want them to leave with high levels of motivation always to give of their best. They will have experience of contributing positively to their local community and will have a growing understanding of the national and global communities to which they also belong. They will not tolerate discrimination and will have good self-care and self-discipline skills that enable them to stay safe and behave courteously and sensibly. They will be confident to seek help and advice when necessary. They will be ‘brilliant citizens’. The Healthy Schools initiative is a partnership between the Local Education Authority and the Public Health Development Service. It supports schools in becoming healthy learning communities through participating in the Healthy Schools' Programme. A member of our staff takes the lead in this area of school life and works with a variety of partners to create a plan to improve the health and well-being of our school community. We have developed policies in school to develop policies around healthy eating in school and learning about healthy lifestyles permeates our curriculum. We also hold an annual Health Week in the summer term during which we place an extra emphasis on health and well-being. We are an inclusive school that welcomes and celebrates diversity. All staff believes having high self-esteem is crucial to a child’s emotional well-being and academic progress. We have a caring, understanding team that looks after all of our children. We recognize that you know your child best and you may feel that they need some additional help or support for some or all of their time at school. This information is to inform you about the support we offer at Cavendish Primary School. It will help you to understand who can help and how this support can be accessed. Many children need some extra help at times during their school career. For many children, a little additional support and support from other agencies enables them to overcome their difficulties. However, some will continue to need more help throughout their time at school. Physical education develops the children’s knowledge, skills, and understanding so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics, and outdoor adventure activities (OAA). Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting, and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives. We will strive to meet the target of 2 hours of quality P.E. provision within a school week, and exceed it where possible, although this may need to be averaged out over a term/year. View full school
