- Our sixteenth academic year's 2018-2019 school year is bound to be filled with exciting events and learning opportunities. That is par for the course at EPS – we have grown from sixteen students and six employees to 457 students and over 100 employees in just over a decade. Although we have experienced tremendous change in the past fourteen years, some things will remain constant. Our commitment to helping students create their own learning experiences is chief among our objectives. Eastside Prep is a place where you can become the best you there is. We admit exciting people who want to try new things. Our community is kind and supportive, so we look for students who value that type of community. We do not have a recipe for the "right EPS student," but we expect that each student will find a place, feel a connection, and experience the kind of learning that inspires innovative thinking. Our mission says it all – We inspire students to create a better world through Critical Thinking, Responsible Action, Compassionate Leadership, and Wise Innovation. This is an authentic learning community. We use tools of all kinds to extend our reach into the world. We also rely on one another to sustain our culture of respect for learning, for self, and others. Eastside Preparatory School believes that all students can be successful, yet each student is successful in his or her way. To reach their fullest potential, we believe that all students need support at one time or another—whether this is tech support, academic, social, emotional, physical, or a combination of these. Support at Eastside Prep begins with our teachers. Our teachers have close, individualized relationships with their students. In addition to our teachers' classroom expertise, EPS has a variety of tools we use to meet student needs. These include student advisory groups, our Guided Study Hall program, individual and group counseling, and parenting education. In addition to the three Learning Support Instructors who teach in our Guided Study Hall Program, we employ a full-time Learning Specialist and full-time Counselors. They are available to assist students, faculty, and parents with any support they may need throughout the year. At Eastside Prep, our goal is to provide rich opportunities for our students to engage their world and enliven their learning through experiential education. Students learn best when they can direct their learning, achieve an increased sense of expertise, and believe that their endeavors mean something. We strive to provide unique experiential education opportunities that allow our students to gain perspective, insight, and expertise. Experiential education is incorporated into our classrooms daily. Whether it is learning how to use a drill press in stagecraft, conducting a science experiment, or giving a formal presentation in class, teachers create a space where students learn and grow because they feel safe to challenge themselves, knowing that failure is not the opposite of success. Eastside Prep's Education Beyond the Classroom (EBC) program, which includes fall overnights, service learning, EBC week, and EPSummer, takes this growth zone concept a step further, integrating classroom learning authentic experience in our neighborhood, our region, or our world. EBC focuses on autonomy, giving students the ability to choose their adventure on mastery, giving students the ability to pursue their passions and purpose, connecting their learning experience to the world around them.
