The mission of Covenant College is to explore and express the preeminence of Jesus Christ in all things. We educate Christians to engage culture and cultures, to examine and unfold creation, and to pursue biblical justice and mercy in community. With the student-faculty relationship and strong teaching and scholarship at the foundation, our Christ-centered community seeks to help students mature in three primary areas: Identity in Christ The biblical frame of reference Christ-like service We offer the world biblically grounded men and women equipped to live out extraordinary callings in ordinary places. We challenge one another to explore and express Christ's preeminence in all things. Covenant College is a Christ-centered institution of higher education, emphasizing liberal arts, operated by a Board of Trustees elected by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), and exists to provide post-secondary educational services to the denomination and the wider public. The College is committed to the Bible as the Word of God written and accepts as its most adequate and comprehensive interpretation of the summary contained in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. The focus of Covenant College is found in its motto, based on Colossians 1:18, "In all things Christ preeminent." Acknowledging Christ preeminent as the creator of all things, as the redeemer of people fallen into sin, as the touchstone of all truth, and as the sovereign ruler over all areas of life, the College strives to discern and to unfold the implications of His preeminence in all things. To serve this end, we seek to appropriate the mind of Christ as the biblical perspective from which we characterize and respond to reality. In attempting to make such a biblically-grounded frame of reference explicit and operative, we are committed to academic inquiry excellence. We seek to define all areas of the College's structure and program according to this understanding of our purpose. We seek to implement our purpose given our belief that all human beings are created in God's image and are, therefore, spiritual, moral, social beings who think, act, value, and exercise dominion. Because we are called to reflect in finite ways what God is infinite, we attempt to institute programs designed to offer all students the opportunity to discover and express their potential in each facet of their redeemed humanness. A Covenant student should be a person who is united with Christ and committed to Him. This union and commitment should lead to an understanding both of one's sin and of one's significance as a person redeemed by Christ, resulting in a growing awareness of purpose. This awareness of purpose should facilitate the development of goals, priorities, and practices that foster spiritual effectiveness and well-being, including the individual students' emotional, social, physical, and intellectual aspects. As the College of the Presbyterian Church in America, Covenant College is led by trustees, advisors, and administrators selected and approved by the denomination. The board of trustees is made up of men who are teaching and ruling elders in the PCA. A combination of Covenant College alumni and representatives of the PCA's Women in the Church serves as advisors to the trustees' board. While the board is given oversight of the College, the president and senior administration are charged with carrying out the operations of the College. A Covenant College education has a sure foundation. Our beliefs, philosophy, and curriculum are rooted in the infallible, eternal, and unchanging Word of God. Our founders had confidence in the Scriptures' truth and promises. On behalf of their children and generations to come, our founders envisioned a learning community where students would explore and express the preeminence of Jesus Christ in all creation and life. We hold our students in high regard because of the commitment God has to them and their families. He consistently refers to his people as a "treasured possession" as he promises that he "will be their God, and they will be my people." This relationship shapes our life and study together at Covenant and gives us confidence that this investment has eternal value and priceless outcomes. The College faculty and staff assume this weighty and wonderful responsibility in both teaching and relationships. Coursework across the disciplines helps our students come to understand better the gracious investment God has first made in them--designing each student with specific gifts, saving them from sin and death to eternal life, and calling them to particular roles of service and responsibilities they must assume in his kingdom. To this end, we seek to discover his good gifts in the creation and culture and to redeem and nurture those gifts for the sake of his glory in the Church and society. For more than 50 years, Covenant has pursued its mission to explore and express the preeminence of Jesus Christ in all things. Founded in 1955 in Pasadena, California, Covenant College needed to expand into new facilities after just one year. Several professors helped Covenant move to St. Louis, Missouri, into a building donated by Catholic sisters. Over the next eight years, the institution increased in size and outgrew its facilities. New Covenant Academy is a K-12th college prep school located in the heart of Koreatown, Los Angeles. Established in 1999, NCA is WASC accredited and is also a member school of CAPSO (California Association of Private School Organizations) and ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). NCA offers the IB (International Baccalaureate) Diploma Program to 11th and 12th graders. NCA's pedagogical methods are guided by proven research and driven by formative/summative assessment results. The curriculum is carefully evaluated and selected to develop fundamental skills in all subjects, emphasizing Language Arts and Critical Thinking. NCA's elementary school teachers are exceptional professionals committed to each student's success. They make learning fun and engaging, and they genuinely care for and nurture each child. As much as NCA's High School program prepares students to thrive in collegiate settings, NCA's Middle School years help students prepare for successful high school learning. The focus is to develop effective study habits and accumulate foundational skills needed to succeed in high school. Students are guided to develop note-taking across all subjects, consistent time-management, successful handling of tasks and assignments, and relational skills that invite support from teachers and peers. NCA's extracurriculars include a wide variety of clubs and activities that make campus life fun and engaging. For Middle and High School students, a vibrant list of organized clubs is made available for participation. Students can also propose a club of their interests with the help of an advisor. The following lists the clubs offered in Spring 2018. Beyond clubs, students can also participate in numerous activities throughout the year. From annual Fall and Winter Camps to ASB-run Spirit Weeks, there's always something on campus for students to do! The Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) at New Covenant Academy directs and oversees students' academic learning and socioemotional development through academic advising, guidance counseling, and student life activities. Providing students with the support necessary for them to experience high levels of academic achievement and accomplishing their personal goals is its top priority. The first meetings were partly business and partly prayer. It was surprising how much support there was to start up a Parent Controlled Christian School. Looking back, one can see that the Lord went before us. Many meetings and much fundraising bore fruit. It was decided to start up a primary school at one of those meetings, not a secondary school. One of the first fundraising activities was an orange drive. Many Saturdays were spent selling bags of oranges for one dollar, fifty cents of which was profit for the School. Many diehards sold oranges week after week, and the cents started rolling in. Even before the School was opened, fundraising was done in the form of putting together a calendar. People with retail businesses could buy advertising space, and the calendars were given away free of charge. The Lord blessed these and many more efforts to raise funds for the School before there was even a building. The first building was a rented and old schoolhouse in St David Street North Geelong, which needed to be cleaned, painted, refurbished, etc. The furniture was pre-loved and out of date, but with a lot of cleaning and a lick of paint, it soon all started to take shape. Supplies came from all over the place, and many people gave their time and energy free of charge. In February 1979, Geelong Christian School (as it was then known) was officially opened. We have been on our current 23-acre site since 1983. The School has grown from four rooms to over 30 rooms, including all the specialist areas. The School has continued developing its distinct Christian ethos over the 30 years by providing programs such as our' Year 9 Outback Program' promoting servanthood, the Christian Kickstart VET subject that caters to our students and our students and other Christian students in the Geelong region. Senior students also have the opportunity to participate in overseas missions trips. Covenant College has been blessed with dedicated staff with a deep conviction to serve the Lord in this ministry. Our strong alliance with Christian Education National (CEN) and the National Institute of Christian Education (NICE) continues to empower and encourage our staff to teach from an authentic Christian worldview. Covenant College strives to be a vibrant Christ-Centred community where parents and teachers serve in partnership to nurture in each child a passion for learning and an uncompromising desire to live according to God's word. The founders of Covenant Christian School Belrose on Sydney's Northern Beaches wanted an education for their children, which was clearly and explicitly Christian in perspective. We owe these Godly, dedicated, passionate, generous, and hard-working Christians our gratitude for their vision and wisdom. The founding parents' initial vision is still healthy and vibrant and continues to be the driving mission of the school. Covenant has grown in student numbers and has been blessed with beautiful facilities and resources. Enjoy listening to some of our founders in these videos. Covenant is a vibrant Christian community with many exciting things happening around the school. As a Principal, I have the privilege of observing how different parts of the school operate. The staff meets in the mornings to encourage and pray for each other, and it is great to see that staff also pray for the children in their care. As a Christian school, we ought to approach the task of educating children with deliberate intention. Because the school has a clear vision to honor Christ in all its practices and activities, it is a school that must and does employ only Christian staff. We recognize the critical role teachers play as role models for your children. At Covenant, we seek to teach the children to see and respond to the world as Christians. This is not a nice optional extra but a core reason our school exists. It is not an easy task, but one that is at the heart of our school. Covenant works in partnership with our parents to nurture and equip students by proclaiming Christ's sovereignty in all areas of life. This not only results in strong academic performances but in young Christian men and women who see the world through the lens of the Gospel. As a parent, I chose to send my children to a Christian school, not because it had better facilities or even more highly qualified teachers, but it sought to teach the whole truth about the world and how we should live in and engage with it. I have met several ex-students who speak of the profound effect that Covenant and similar schools have had on them. If we do our job well by serving the school's parents, our graduates will be more discerning and wise than the current generation, and they will have a more significant impact on the broader community for Christ's sake.
